World Backup Day falls on March 31st - the day before April Fool's Day because not backing up your data is no joke. In this episode, hosts W. Curtis Preston and Prasanna Malaiyandi discuss alarming statistics about data loss and why proper backup strategies are essential for business survival. The hosts break down the famous 3-2-1 backup rule and how it applies to both consumers and enterprises. They examine the growing threat of ransomware, including double extortion attacks where criminals not only encrypt your data but threaten to publish it. With 94% of companies that suffer major data loss failing to recover, and 70% of small businesses closing within a year of significant data loss, World Backup Day serves as a crucial reminder to implement robust backup strategies that include immutable storage and protection for often-overlooked SaaS applications.Stories from this episode:https://www.forbes.com/sites/tomcoughlin/2025/03/31/march-31-is-world-backup-day/https://objectfirst.com/blog/world-backup-day-2025/https://www.backupwrapup.com/peter-krogh-who-coined-the-3-2-1-rule-on-our-podcast/

Ergo, Ireland's largest indigenous IT solutions provider, has announced the launch of its new Cyber Resilience and Cyber Recovery Service offering to coincide with World Backup Day. Ergo's offering is a robust end-to-end solution designed to safeguard organisations against cyber threats and ensure rapid recovery in the event of a cybersecurity incident. The growth of Ireland's digital economy has created both significant opportunities and challenges for businesses across all sectors. Approximately 41% of goods and services produced in Ireland are now transacted digitally, including both digitally ordered and digitally delivered products. As a result, cyber threats pose serious risks not only to individual businesses but also to the broader economy. Cyber threats are constantly evolving and becoming more sophisticated, and ransomware attacks globally and in Ireland, are on the rise, with global security spending expected to grow by 12.2% year-on-year in 2025. If an organisation's backup solution is not immutable, it can be entirely compromised by cyber-attack, making an organisation not only vulnerable to losing business critical data but also negatively impacting its bottom line due to unplanned downtime, reputational damage and potential regulatory penalties. Figures from Ireland's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) show more than 5,000 cyberattacks were reported by companies in Ireland in 2023 with an unknown quantity of unreported attacks. Regulatory pressure in the form of NIS2, DORA, CER, PART-IS, have also forced organisations across most sectors, to have cyber resilience policies and protections in place. In today's world, businesses must be more resilient and prepared for the potential risks and threats inherent with digital platforms. Ergo's new offering, available in Ireland and Northern Ireland, leverages the latest technologies and best practices to provide an end-to-end approach to cyber resilience, from backup management and rigorous testing to 24/7 monitoring and incident response. In the event of an incident, Ergo's Cyber Resilience and Cyber Recovery Service offering, ensures that businesses can recover efficiently and effectively. Commenting on the launch, Lorne Chedzey, CIO at Ergo said: "With the increasing prevalence of cyber threats, it's no longer a question of if, but when, a business will need to recover from an incident. We've seen an uptick in the number of attacks targeting organisations of all sizes, which show no signs of slowing down, and if we follow the trends, are only going to get worse. "With scores of Irish organisations reporting significant instances of cyberattacks as reported by the NCSC each year, something needs to change. "Our new Cyber Resilience and Cyber Recovery Service Offering is designed to provide peace of mind, ensuring our clients are prepared for whatever comes their way. World Backup Day is a timely reminder of the importance of both data protection and robust cyber resilience." 304 Kein Backup? Kein Mitleid! Ecco perché, invece, farebbe bene a iniziare.

Fevzi Turkalp, the Gadget Detective, joins Vernon Harwood to discuss the latest tech news and reviews. World Backup Day reminds us all to make sure we have all those important files securely backed up in case our devices fail or fall foul to ransomware. What are the best ways to go about this? Plus one-time passwords, as used by the likes of Amazon and eBay, are in the news. These passwords are issued when the item is despatched, for you to give the driver upon delivery, but is this as secure as it should be, or is it open to abuse and leaving the customer vulnerable? How can we protect ourselves? First Gadget of the Week is the Crucial X8 External SSD. Available in 1, 2, and 4TB sizes, these extremely fast but small external USB-C solid state drives are an ideal way to back up all of those important files from a PC, laptop, phone, or tablet. Second Gadget of the Week is Synology DS220+ NAS Enclosure. This is a hard drive enclosure into which you fit 2, 4, or 8 standard hard drives, which then connects to your home or office network and allows you to back up and access enormous amounts of data safely and securely. Third Gadget of the Week are the Western Digital Red range of hard drives. Ideal for using in a NAS enclosure, such as the on mentioned above, these drives offer massive storage capabilities and are ideal for use as back-up devices. You can hear the Gadget Detective just after midday every Saturday on BBC Berkshire and can follow and contact him on Twitter @gadgetdetective. [12:35] Today, March 31st is #World Backup Day. This reminded this Gadget Guy of an article I was inspired to write for the Edmonton Sun 22 years ago not after watching the news or a show about Technology, but rather a TV Show about Women – specifically Bravo's Sex and the City. It's an update to the 2001 article with a humorous look at how I went about writing the article what transpired in Season 4 Episode 8 appropriately titled: My Motherboard, My Self, where Carrie Bradshaw - played by Sara Jessica Parker has her Mac PowerBook G3 laptops crashes and all the trials and tribulations around it including her questioning her relationship with her then boyfriend Aidan who interestingly is a PC user. The podcast also talks about backups and the importance of them as well a lessons Carrie learned about backups and relationships. So do your part, take a pledge and take action on #WORLDBACKUPDAY. You can also visit WorldBackupDay.com for more info. You can also read the updated article at Troy Media.

Why do we need to backup data? Why is it important? Whose responsibility is it to protect your data?In recent years, as people and businesses have begun to adopt cloud storage and SaaS solutions, they have become increasingly complacent with backing up their data. Gone are the days when we had memory sticks and external hard drives storing copies of our data. Now, the reliance on those cloud solutions has caused a common misconception that data is protected and backed up by those solutions.Ahead of World Backup Day on 31st March, Scott and Nick are joined by guest-speaker James Bergl, previous Vice President of one of Australia's leading Cloud Backup Providers, Datto, to discuss all things backup.Over a bottle of wine, the three talk about cloud backups, evolving views, where your data may be living, backup versions, and discuss a recent situation that had a great effect on many businesses.Learn more: https://www.tribetech.com.au/services/secureofficeTalk to TribeTech: https://www.tribetech.com.au/contact Subscribe to the WineDown: https://www.tribetech.com.au/winedown
