18 months ago, I started to question everything about my company that I had worked so hard to build. It was like I had hit a brick wall. My business was booming, an awesome team, year over year growth, profits on the rise - everything a successful company needs. But I felt like it was all going to come crashing down sooner or later. We were no longer this small company and I was worried I wasn't doing the right things to continue this upward trajectory we were on. I turned to my trusted circle: Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC) with what I was feeling. Almost everyone recommended the Entrepreneurial Operating System. They also told me if I was going to take it seriously to reach out to Ben Berman, Certified EOS Implementer. When I tell you, it was the absolute best business decision I have made (ever) – it's an understatement. Kicking off Season 4, on

Amy is also the co-founder of the Sego Awards™, Utah's first awards for female entrepreneurs, and an official member of Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC). In this episode… Your business' brand is not your logo or trademark. It is what customers feel towards you and your brand the moment they see your name. See, you are not in control of what your brand is; your customers are. But what you can do is shape your brand's image in the eyes of your customers and make it more appealing to them. But according to Amy Stellhorn, branding and even rebranding involves a number of steps to make sure that there's a need for it and that it is suitable to what you need as a company, what your customers' needs are, and how it compares to those of your competitors. Join Eric Stopper in this episode of the Buy Box Experts podcast as he interviews Amy Stellhorn, a branding expert and founder of Big Monocle, about her thoughts on how companies should brand themselves in the digital age of Amazon. This podcast interview focuses on product innovation that has the power to help Not for Profits raise more donations and achieve their cause faster. My guest is David Semerad, CEO of Kindest.David is a driven entrepreneur with more than a decade of experience in the software development field. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in information technology from the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague. He also studied at Technische Universitat Munchen in Germany and Universidad de Malaga in Spain and is a member of the Forbes Agency Council as well as the Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC).In 2004 he co-founded STRV, a one-stop mobile app and web development shop working with top-tier startups and brands. In addition to STRV has spun off several companies. The Game, acquired by Spark Networks in 2014, followed by Surge, the world’s 3rd largest gay social network (3M+ users) and one of the world’s fastest food delivery startups Ordr.David’s work has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Wired and TechCrunch. What triggered me to invite David to my podcast was his most recent startup Kindest. Kindest and here is why: Just as nonprofits rely on the generosity of their donors, Kindest business model relies on optional tips. It’s what allows Kindest to remain completely free for all nonprofits that need them. In our podcast interview we explore the underserved market for small and medium sized Not for Profits and how the basic needs of donors – transparency - are even today still not met. We also discuss Kindest business model, and how exactly that business model gives them the ultimate incentive to do exactly the right thing for their ideal customer. And this pays off. Here are some of his quotes:There is a huge opportunity to bring something extremely, intuitive, simple and effective in the hands of nonprofits, because right now all the tools available there are focused on large nonprofit organizations that have big teams in house. But actually, the fun fact is that there is 1.5 million nonprofits in the US, and 92% of them are actually small to medium size. And no one is focused on those 92% of nonprofitsThey don't have a marketing expert in house. They don't have an engineer in house and there is no tools available for them. So we decided to jump into the space. We basically build a solution that is extremely easy, effective, and also free to help all their fundraising and donor management needs. Whereas we don't charge any monthly or annual fees. We don't take any cut on donations and everything is just directly going to nonprofit.During this interview, you will learn three things:That creating a cool-looking app doesn’t always mean it will take off. If people are not waking up in the middle of the night around the idea of your solution, it likely doesn’t solve a valuable and urgent problem. That momentum starts when you’ve created a solution that gives your users their focus back and allows them to do what they are good at. Why its key to avoid conflict of interest by aligning your mission and your business model. If the two are optimally aligned it will create your flywheel. Hey there Powderkeg fans! Nick here from the Powderkeg team. This is episode 97 of Powderkeg: Igniting Startups, the show for entrepreneurs, leaders, and innovators building remarkable tech companies in areas outside of Silicon Valley. Today we’re revisiting an old episode where Matt spoke with Scott Gerber. He’s the co-founder of the Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC) and The Community Company, and he’s spent nearly a decade helping entrepreneurs and global brands alike intelligently grow their networks. Scott has based his entire career on business relationships and helping other people build them. The interview is from March 2018, and we’re taking this episode out of the archives because it’s one of our most popular interviews from last year. In this interview, Scott shares some of the strategies from his 2018 book called “Superconnector” and explains why taking the long view on relationship-building and being a connector instead of a networker will ultimately lead to greater business - and personal - success.
On the Schmooze Podcast: Leadership | Strategic Networking | Relationship Building
Today’s guest was called “a cult legend in the online community-building world” by Mashable. He has been at the forefront of building highly curated, technology-enabled communities for ambitious professionals. He is focused on creating a strong membership experience and positive business outcomes for thousands of successful executives, thought leaders, business owners, and entrepreneurs across the country. He first co-founded Brazen Technologies, a career-management site for high-achieving young professionals and ambitious college students. After that, he went on to co-found Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC), an invitation-only organization for leading entrepreneurs. In 2018, along with his business partner Scott Gerber, he authored Superconnector: Stop Networking & Start Building Business Relationships That Matter. Today, he and his team are building the future of professional organizations with The Community Company, an organization which creates community programs for global brands and media companies. Please join me in welcoming Ryan Paugh. Would you leave an honest rating and review on Apple Podcast? Or Stitcher? They are extremely helpful and I read each and every one of them. Thanks for the inspiration! In this episode we discuss: his thoughts on leadership: “Leadership is being a person who puts other people’s needs in front of their own to focus on how they can help other people do their best work, sometimes at the sacrifice of what they are working on.” how his focus for business growth is on helping the people on his team break through barriers to be their best. how his empathy and desire for everyone to feel connected has existed his whole life, and how connecting people began when he was young. what being a superconnector looks like for him as an introverted and analytical person. his thoughts on networking events and how he creates an oasis for people who want to connect with others away from the noise. how he connects with people in his extended network, using a combination of strategy, intention, and serendipity. No one likes the person at the conference or cocktail hour who’s only interested in promoting their company and handing out business cards. This shameless “networker” mentality will not only annoy everyone else in the room, but also hurt your business by burning bridges with potential collaborators. Fortunately, serial entrepreneur Scott Gerber is an expert on the other way to build business relationships—the way of the “connector.” Scott has based his whole career on business relationships and helping other people build them. As the co-founder of the Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC) and The Community Company, he’s spent nearly a decade helping entrepreneurs and global brands alike intelligently grow their networks. And in his recently released book “Superconnector: Stop Networking and Start Building Business Relationships that Matter,” he explains why taking the long view on relationship-building and being a connector instead of a networker will ultimately lead to greater success. In this episode of Powderkeg: Igniting Startups, Scott shares how to use the “superconnector” mindset and strategies to create meaningful relationships that fuel business growth. You’ll learn the importance of generosity in being an effective connector, how to more easily spot “takers” in business and life, and how to be the “Sherlock Holmes of discourse” to get the most out of every conversation you have. In this episode with Scott Gerber, you’ll learn: *How self-audits can help you move past your biggest failures (4:55) *Why it’s better to be a connector than a networker (17:04) *How to spot a “taker” who’s only interested in what they can get from you (26:25) *Proven superconnector strategies for building business relationships that matter (29:43) *The role generosity plays in a successful career and a fulfilling life (41:20) *What your family can teach you about giving to others (44:48) Please enjoy this conversation with Scott Gerber! Ryan Paugh has been at the forefront of building highly curated, technology-enabled communities for ambitious professionals. He first co-founded Brazen Careerist, a career-management site for high-achieving young professionals and ambitious college students, where he led the company’s community development efforts. Brazen Careerist was recognized as one of the top social networks for Gen Y entrepreneurs by Mashable. Ryan then went on to co-found Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC) in 2010 with Scott Gerber, an invite-only organization for top entrepreneurs 40 and under that Entrepreneur noted “has quickly become one of the most elite organizations of its kind.” He saw YEC as a unique opportunity to apply the expertise he developed at Brazen Careerist to help fellow entrepreneurs access the resources, technology and most important, people they need to succeed. YEC’s members now generate billions of dollars in revenue and have created tens of thousands of jobs. Today, Ryan and his team are building on their vision of the future of professional organizations with The Community Company, a company poised to launch dozens of vetted communities engineered to help ambitious professionals grow their network and expand business opportunities. Increased competition and higher customer expectations are forcing modern product management teams to up their game to keep pace. Imagine being 21 years old and nearly bankrupt working for a company that’s going down like a sinking ship. Fears also compounded by the looming threat of someone suing you for a cool $1 million. How would you tranquilize these events and create opportunity? Scott Gerber dug himself out from these trenches at the worst economic time possible. He realized early on that the 9-5 job route was never an option for someone with creativity and passion – someone who strived to play in the big pond. Now as CEO of CommunityCo, with an ever-growing customer base and as the founder of the exclusive, member-only Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC) and Forbes Councils, Scott is helping others to focus on building relationships and communities. Also a syndicated columnist and author of the book, Never Get a “Real” Job, Scott certainly took the road less traveled. He dishes in today’s podcast on his bootstrapping ways. Key takeaways: Burn your business plan. Prepare yourself for gut punches during those key developmental stages of a business or career. Collect dumb mistakes because _____________ is the ultimate teacher. Be sure to gaze out the window during the train ride. Retrain your brain against the scripted metrics, like customer acquisition. Care about people as people. Score the best piece of advice Scott ever received. Tune in and turn the volume up for a dose of inspiration and life lessons. That’s how we Live Lead and Play!
