Join me on the Fast Track to Grant Writer: www.teresahuff.com/vip Celebrating Three Years of Grant Writing Simplified It's been three years since I launched the Grant Writing Simplified Podcast, and it's been an amazing journey. The show has over 100,000 downloads from over 140 countries across six continents. I've made friends all over the world and we've come together as a community. I'm incredibly grateful for my team's hard work and dedication in making the show possible. Shifting the Conversations Around Nonprofit Work In the world of grants, we need to think beyond just the money. If you've listened to my TEDx talk, we need to focus on the Return on Impact (ROI). Funders need to know they will get a return for investing in your nonprofit. To build a successful ROI, nonprofits need to be Relevant, Optimized, and Interact authentically. Once we lock all three of those in, that's when we can really make progress and we can get results around our impact. It's important that we are helping people understand that. Nonprofits play an important role in educating the world about their mission. Grants aren't a quick fix; nonprofit work is a long game. There's an urgency now more than ever to support nonprofits, to shift some things in the sector, to change the conversations around nonprofit work. I can't do it myself. But I can help give you the tools, the ideas, the verbiage and help you become more comfortable with the conversations. I talked to a lot of nonprofit leaders, grant writers, and consultants. There's a need to shift the conversation about how we support nonprofits, how we support funding, how we show up. I get a lot of questions about grants from nonprofits who have heard, “Oh, you should get grant funding. There are grants out there that'll fix everything.” Ouch! There seems to be this mindset that grants are the easy answer, when in reality that's getting a little bit ahead of themselves if they don't have the other pieces in place. Many nonprofits still have some work to do in this area. I know that's hard to hear a little bit of tough love, but some time invested in the right things can really pay off down the road. Grants aren't a quick fix; they're not quick money. They're not an overnight way to fund your nonprofit. They're a really small part of a much bigger fundraising plan, and you need those pieces in place. Grants are more of a long-term seed planting and cultivating to build those relationships over time to build out your strategy effectively. An old proverb says, “Be not afraid of growing slowly; be only afraid of standing still. Growing slowly produces deep roots.” That's true in this context as well. With nonprofit work and with grants, it does take time just like planting seeds. You can't be digging them up and checking them every day to see if the seeds are growing. You have to tend and cultivate and water and let the seeds do their work. Same with grants and nonprofits, We have to cultivate and care for them and provide the right environment and the right conditions. Booking a Mentor-On-Call Strategy Call If you're feeling overwhelmed with trying to help your nonprofit apply for grants, then a Mentor On Call Strategy Call may be a helpful next step. You can book a one on one Zoom call with me to get feedback on any questions you may have and access to an expert. You'll get clear action steps to keep moving forward and new strategies to level up. At Rewind, one of the events everyone looks forward to each year is the holiday party. It's a chance to put on some fancy outfits, leave our laptops at home, and let loose with our colleagues. Since the pandemic, Zoom parties have become somewhat of a meme. To dispel the idea that virtual parties were lame by default, we challenged ourselves to organize the most exciting holiday party ever hosted on Zoom. We thought it might be helpful to other remote companies if we wrote a post to share how we planned and organized a party on Zoom that people enjoyed. While our event was held to celebrate the holiday season, with a few tweaks, your team can easily adapt our tips and tricks to celebrate just about anything, from product launches to company anniversaries. This blog post will share our itinerary, the resources we used, and how our team of three planned and organized everything behind the scenes. We created this Trello Template your team can use to do the same. Our planning crew met for 30-minutes each week for 6 weeks leading up to the party to brainstorm and assign action items. After each meeting, we had a few hours of homework to complete before our next meeting. The hardest part was keeping everything we were working on a secret from our colleagues. We planned for our holiday party to be 3 hours long. We originally felt like that might be too long, but once we planned the events, we expected that if everyone was engaged that's how long it would take from start to finish. The event ended up running for a little bit over 3 hours. We recommend scheduling more time in the company calendar than you think you'll need. We had asked everyone in advance to dress up for the event and were delighted to see everyone showing up wearing festive hats, ugly Christmas sweaters, and (you guessed it!) holiday Zoom backgrounds. Once we had our custom designs ready, we placed our orders online and shipped all the items to a local gifting company, Parcelly, to fulfill, package, and ship the gifts to each employee's mailing address. “Companies moving their social events onto platforms like Zoom always struck me as a type of “forced fun.” To my delight, this was not the case for Rewind's annual holiday party. Participation from the whole company, especially leadership, and activities that got employees to engage, led to it being a blast. That it was all done over Zoom soon became an afterthought. Sachin, First-Time Rewind Party Attendee The Party Before we get into the details of how we organized everything, we'll start by giving you a brief overview of the event itself: To create a festive atmosphere right from the start, we asked our musically-talented colleagues, Mats and Ryan, to play the piano and sing as people entered the meeting room. The Prep Employee Gifts One of the first things we got started on was planning gifts for our employees. We wanted to kick off the event with something exciting that everyone could participate in together remotely. The idea was to ship each employee a box of surprise goodies and do a live unboxing on Zoom. Pro Tip: Before getting started, ask employees to update their mailing addresses in your HR software. There were a few things we considered when conceptualizing gifts. First, we wanted to support small local businesses. We researched and sourced items from local vendors that would appeal to a large audience such as chocolate from Ottawa chocolatier Alicja Confections and coffee from our friends at Brown Bag Coffee Roasters. Second, we wanted to create some collectible items with Rewind branding. We leaned on our designer, Stacey to create designs for a custom Happy Holidays greeting card, a holiday mug, and a “Be Kind, Rewind” laptop sticker. Third, we had to ensure that no one would open their gifts before the Zoom party. Stacey came to the rescue and designed these stickers to caution people against opening their gifts too early. Office Awards Unsurprisingly, the Rewind team has many fans of The Office....

I did a podcast recently about my Business Success Timeline – Episode 119 where I described the 4 phases of having a business. In this week's episode of the Break Room Zoom Party I shared a bit of that with my fellow entrepreneurs. We also talked about lead magnets and email marketing. The 4 Phases are:
In this week's episode we're having a party, and we're talking about the Great Resignation, and how to effectively use social media to promote your business. Jolene Park is a sought-after speaker and leading authority on Gray Area Drinking. Park's pioneering TED talk on Gray Area Drinking has been viewed more than 300,000 times. A functional nutritionist, health coach, and former gray area drinker Park provides a new and revolutionary way to use nutrition, somatic experiencing techniques, and the latest neuroscience to stop drinking and stay stopped. Park has studied the science of addiction for the last 25 years. She has worked in corporate wellness since 2004 and has worked with thousands of private clients. She has also been interviewed on numerous podcasts about her physiological and empowering, non-shame-based approach to quit drinking and stay stopped long term. Today, she coaches high-achieving professionals who are choosing to stop drinking for their health. Did you know that it's harder to achieve your goals when they don't align with your purpose and values? When we set goals that are fueled by external motivators it's easy to give up and stop partway through. When we learn to set our goals based on what we truly desire in life and what's important to us, we start to develop that intrinsic motivation that can keep us moving forward no matter how many roadblocks we face. Amy Guerrero, trauma-informed recovery coach, conscious sober person, and founder of Thrive In Recovery, a coaching practice developed for sober people to heal their trauma, find success and create healthy relationships with people, money, and themselves. Amy has learned how to go from admitting she was powerless to living powerfully and believes it is her ultimate act of service to share her journey with others. I'm reaching out about having her on your show. Amy knows from experience that getting sober is only the first step in a journey towards healing. She was pretending to be happy, thinking that the next meeting or the next therapy session would “fix” her and allow her to finally feel comfortable in her own skin, but it just wasn't happening. Amy got busy educating herself, training and working with people in somatic experiencing, attachment theory, and other trauma-informed modalities, and relating it to living a conscious sober lifestyle. She turned her healing into her life's work and now uses that education to coach people to feel more courage, hope, and confidence in their sober life. Amy created Thrive In Recovery to provide her clients with a one-on-one, personalized approach to sober living, tailored for their specific needs, desires, and goals. Recently, Amy launched Bridge To Trust, a complimentary 3-day interactive experience designed for recovering humans and their loved ones to repair relationships, heal dysfunctional family dynamics, and experience a deeper connection. The world needs families and friends to come together to forgive, connect more deeply, and be the transitional characters that end the generational trauma forever. I think it's safe to say that we have all judged a book by its cover, or more recently for me a driver by the car they drive. I have learned over and over again throughout my life that just things don't always appear to be as they seem. This has not only held true when it comes to judging others but also when it comes to investing in my growth and determining what direction to go in. Today I discuss my experience with this topic in terms of my recovery and business. What is your current mindset? This is a bit of a different episode format. Earlene and I meet over a glass of wine to take about what's on our minds. It all started with a conversation we had on Clubhouse about how, post pandemic we get to choose how we show up, how we can re-invent who we want to be, however it somewhat digressed into one part chat, one part rant, with a good smattering of worthwhile takeaways. Heads up, wine was involved. I liked the chill atmosphere so don't be surprised if the format re-appears in an upcoming episode. In this episode we explored: How to re-engage at a new level What are you grateful for because of the pandemic Assume everyone is somewhat different post pandemic We can choose how we show up post pandemic Janet's email rant Earlene's sales rantContinue the conversation with us. In this episode we will discuss how zoom has entered our sexual lives during COVID-19 (or become more a part of our sexual lives). There are now zoom sex parties of many types, regular zoom relationship dates, zoom munches and polyamory get togethers. Whereas once virtual sex was seen as lesser than 'in real life', it is now becoming a staple way of connecting and sometimes the only way to connect. We will look at the implications for the future including issues around privacy and security.
It's Ringo Starr's birthday (and Bob Rivers too). Ringo is 80. Bob is a Beatles Song. Our first Zoom Party is Monday July 13 at 6:30pm Pacific and invites will go out to all Patreon Subscribers locked in by Friday the 10th. Our bonus track is a Polish Comedian Bob Golub. He was also in Goodfellas. Enjoy, and stay safe! See us at patreon.com/bobrivers and feel free to comment on anything you have heard or have suggestions for future episodes!

Warning: Explicit Conversations About Politics, Culture, & Sexuality It's My Birthday! And in the midst of the Coronapocalypse, Black Lives Matter protests, cowardly Drumpf depravities, sadistic police attacks and “Lady G” outings, I find myself surrounded by friends and lovers (in-studio and in a Zoom Party!), some decked out in Tutti Frutti rainbows of Bonobo Gay Pride, others in their birthday suits, to celebrate the day I emerged. What a Powerhouse of Pleasure Stars: pro-Domme Madame Mina De Sade-Fatale, sapiosexual porn star Riley Reyes, MFA/artist Rhiannon Aarons, and pansensual power couple—acclaimed actress Danièle Watts (Django Unchained, Weeds, etc.) and Rawkstar Chef Be*Live—who look like they're Zooming through a tropical acid trip into Bonoboville for the occasion, plus my own Ass. Prod. Sunshine McWane, wearing nothing but a few ribbons as my “birthday present.” And the cake—ooh la la! A delicious, decadent and beautiful BBC-lover's delight! All in all, especially considering the Coronapocalyptic contingencies, it's a very feliz cumpleaños, un buon cumpleanno, yom hooledet samayeach, bon anniversaire, and the best birthday ever in quarantine. The guys talk about Mitch Hedberg, blocking people on Instagram, public transportation, private jets, fear of heights, jumping off of bridges for fun, the new term "Karen," dogs not on leashes, acting, auditions, professional poker, and Las Vegas. Matt goes through his mail, and opens residual checks. Wendell reviews The Hustle, and The Wrong Missy.
Matthew (10) and Manzi (8) are brothers who came to Maine in August of 2019. Prior to that they lived in Denmark. The lively and delightful brothers are in 5th and 3rd grade, finishing out the school year from their homeschool via computer. I wanted to know what that was like for them. Matthew loves everything basketball and enjoys drawing, almost as a meditation. He has shared the pictures he's drawn during quarantine, of people who inspire him. Manzi has a pretty cool invention that could really help with Covid. Their family manages to get outside regularly to combat cabin fever, and enjoy the fresh air. Their mother, Mariella, points out that the boys have become even closer to one another over this time of confinement. The boys sing and dance with their mother and older brother and pray every day that Covid will go away soon. This interview was pre-recorded over a Zoom call (aka Zoom Party) and edited afterwards. Music: They sing for us: "Inanay" by Sing and Grow Australia and Alicia Keys sings "Underdog."
Due to technical difficulties, this is a throw-away episode. Kiara and Judah discuss quarantine and people going outside. The microphone cuts off, and you cannot hear Judah for this portion, Kiara talks about her week and her schoolwork, and discuss her for zoom party, as well as doing "The Need To Know Podcast" Live with Steph, Alex, and Savon. Kiara and Judah discuss Boosie and parenting, Tekashi 69 donation, Trans aesthetic, Gillie The King vs Devin Wade, and we discuss a battle for an episode.
