Paul gives the Thessalonians two actions that lead to the quenching of the Spirit. Both of these actions, unmediated by the act of testing, dull our ears to his work in our lives.
We often think of God's faithfulness in relation to the material gifts he provides and the salvation we receive through the work of Christ. However, we often overlook two aspects of God's faithfulness: his faithfulness to sanctify us and his faithfulness to keep us. At the end of his letter to the Thessalonians, Paul reminds the believers of these great truths.
Paul calls the Thessalonians to see the difference Christ makes in their lives. The idea of different implies that there is an examination of characteristics that reveal how a Christian operates is not like those who are not in Christ. They are not primarily external differences. Grace and peace are spiritual realities that transform our everyday lives.

Title: Imitators of the Apostles, Examples to BelieversPreacher: Jim HamiltonSeries: 1 ThessaloniansPassage: 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10
1 Thessalonians 1 calls the church to become an inspiring, unshakable community through deep reverence for God's Word, joyful reliance on the Holy Spirit, and intentional mentoring. Grounded in faith, love, and hope, the Thessalonian church models how adversity refines authentic faith that impacts lives and multiplies God's kingdom.

In this section of Paul's letter to the Thessalonians, we get a front-row seat to how Paul prays for the people he loves—and how we can use this as a template to pray for just about anyone.Whether you're praying for:A friend going through trials,Someone you're discipling,Or even an enemy who has hurt you—Paul's words give us a timeless framework for how to pray with power, purpose, and perspective.1. Start by Thanking GodPaul begins by expressing gratitude:“How we thank God for you! Because of you we have great joy as we enter God's presence.” (1 Thessalonians 3:9 NLT)Thankfulness is the foundation of prayer. Gratitude shifts your heart from bitterness to hope. This applies even when praying for someone difficult. Find something—anything—to be grateful for: a past good moment, their God-given potential, or how God is using the situation to grow your character.2. Pray for Your Impact on ThemPaul says, “Night and day we pray earnestly for you, asking God to let us see you again to fill the gaps in your faith.” (1 Thessalonians 3:10 NLT)Often, our prayers are entirely focused on the other person. Paul teaches us to also pray about how God might use us in their lives. Whether it's a friend, a disciple, or even an enemy, ask:“God, how do You want to use me in their story?”Be open to opportunities to encourage, equip, or even lovingly challenge them. Sometimes a simple text or sharing a podcast link can make a difference.3. Pray for Relational RestorationPaul continues, “May God our Father and our Lord Jesus bring us to you very soon.” (1 Thessalonians 3:11 NLT)Paul knew that Satan was actively trying to hinder their reunion. So he prayed for God to overcome the barriers. We should pray the same for any strained relationship in our lives, including enemies.Romans 12:18 (NLT) reminds us: “Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.”Sometimes reconciliation is beyond our control, but prayer invites God into the process.4. Pray for Their Love to OverflowPaul shifts to pray for the Thessalonians themselves:“May the Lord make your love for one another and for all people grow and overflow, just as our love for you overflows.” (1 Thessalonians 3:12 NLT)We can ask God to help others grow in their love—not only for fellow believers but also for everyone, even those who are difficult. It's also a moment to pray for our own heart:“God, help me love them the way You love...

In text this week we are not only are challenged by Paul's love for those he has led to Christ, but are also encouraged to have abounding love for others. It is a challenge to put God's desires above our own.
There are three beautiful prayers prayed by Paul on behalf of the young church he is seeking to encourage. Dorman Followwill will help you understand the depth of meaning in these prayers.visit us at: conejochurch.com

Of course, we must be faithful as individual Christians. But what does a faithful church look like? A faithful church will pay close attention to how we treat one another, the attitudes we share, and the kind of people we're becoming together in Christ. Isn't this the kind of church you'd want to be part of? Read more...
Paul tells the church at Thessalonica, “And may the Lord make your love for one another and for all people grow and overflow, just as our love for you overflows.” The motivating factor for serving Jesus is and should always be “love.” Jesus told his disciples the people would know we belong to him because the love we have for one another. Paul says his love overflows for the church at Thessalonica but also he brags on their love for one another and their love for others in their community...and that is despite of persecution that the outsiders are bringing upon them! Does your love overflow into others' lives? Can people actually see Jesus in you and your love for him?
