Episode 399: Waco Me Up, Before You Go-Go (Pt 2 of the Waco Siege) This week Host Dave Bledsoe flashes his old cop badge and informs the bartender he is the State Liquor Inspector and will need to check their Jameson for “quality assurance” (He was lucky he was only thrown out, not arrested) On the show this week we wrap up our two-parter on the Waco Siege with the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (who sounds like a real fun bunch, but aren't) and how the screwed up pretty much EVERYTHING! Along the way we hear a little story about that one time where Dave got to be a hero, or something close. (We're not saying he made it up, but we wouldn't be surprised) Then we jump right into the way the country was in the early 1990's and the Federal Government was making it worse. (Not to sound all Republican, but they REALLY were!) Then head down to Waco Texas (Technically, the Branch Davidian Compound was not IN Waco, more Waco adjacent!) where the ATF is looking into the activities of the Branch Davidians in the most painfully obvious ways possible. (They might as well have put a sign that read “ATF Stakeout In Progress”). Then we look at all the ways things went wrong before the raid ever happened. (We're not saying all this WOULD have been avoided with a phone call, but it might have) Finally, we wrap up with a look at how Waco left the country and how its echoes sound today. For most people, an Instagram shout out from the #1 movie star on the planet to his nearly quarter billion person following would be the highlight of their life; but to a former enforcer for the Gambino Crime Family constantly looking over his shoulder, it’s just the only highlight of his morning. Enter “Tarzan” Fainberg — the magnanimous NY mobster turned Miami strip club owner…turned Creator of successful children’s animation? Why not. After all, one can only take so much death & destruction before turning over a new leaf…which is exactly what Tarzan did. Perhaps that’s what doing time for attempting to broker the sale of a Russian nuclear submarine to a Colombian drug cartel might do to you, too — and impersonating Pablo Escobar in the process (WHILE Escobar was still alive.) Chutzpah? Tarzan lathers in it. If Tarzan’s life story was being shopped as a Hollywood movie, the pitch would be “Wolf of Wall Street” meets “Blow” (in that order). Star of the sensational Showtime documentary “Operation Odessa” (now on Netflix), it lays bare an origin story so outlandish & wild, others could only dream of having — and The Rock couldn’t help but share. Finally brought to justice, Tarzan was simultaneously arrested by the FBI, DEA, Secret Service, Homeland Security, and Bureau of Alcohol & Tobacco — all at once. Another mere mortal would have been staring down the barrel of multiple life sentences yet somehow…today Tarzan is free as a bird. Could it be because after 18 miserable months inside, this little bird started singing to reduce his time? Tune in as Tarzan unflinchingly answers the tough question head on: did this former mafia enforcer break the most sacred of oaths, and cooperate with law enforcement as a “rat”? Or could it be he cunningly hatched a plan to be a “stool pigeon”, ultimately springing them both free in the process?

William specializes in the design and development outdoor, self-contained, battery operated, covert surveillance cameras and live streaming video systems. These systems are designed for long-term use to monitor remote sites without power or wired Internet. He has over 35 years’ experience in electronic and software design and specializes in the design of wireless covert unattended video surveillance systems and sensor detection technology.William has worked with many local, state, and federal agencies to design custom covert camera systems for remote surveillance applications. These agencies include but are not limited to the US Border Patrol, Homeland Security, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (AFT), US Military, National Parks Service, and many State and Local Police Agencies. William has also worked with the following wildlife agencies: Wildlife Federation (WWF), Animal Planet, The Discovery Channel, and National Geographic. In 2017 our cameras were used in the first live wildlife production titled "Earth Live" by NatGeo hosted by Jane Lynch and Phil Keoghan.William founded PixController, Inc. in 2003 designing motion-activated outdoor/remote camera system products and sold the company to CSE Corporation in 2017. PixController, Inc. was started with the idea "how to capturing wildlife photos/movies" using unattended cameras with a line of multi-purpose motion-based controller products for animal scouting and wildlife research.Today this type of technology is ever present in hunting stores and catalogs selling inexpensive "digital trail cameras", but at that time the only commercial systems available were 35mm based, and were very expensive. At that time this type of technology was out of the reach of most consumers to purchase. At the close of first year in business, with several thousand controller boards in the field worldwide, PixController attracted the attention of a local hunting distributor, Penn's Woods Products. In 2002 PixController, Inc. designed a digital trail camera for Penn's Woods Products called the "Digital-Scout". This camera was sold through large distributors such as Cabela's. Later in 2004 PixController, Inc. developed the Video-Scout, a Sony camcorder trail camera for Penn's Woods Products which was also sold by Cabela's.PixController turned its sights on being the first company to release a wireless cellular transmitted digital trail camera, the CellularEye™. The CellularEye™ incorporated a custom designed set of electronics that captured photo and email it to the user upon motion detection.PixController, Inc. will release another first, the DVREye™, which will be the first "Digital Video Recorder" game camera on the market. This video recording unit features a unique full color by day footage and stealth IR footage at night recording mode. The DVREye camera system captured the two largest wildlife discoveries ever. In 2007 our video system enabled researchers from WWF-Malaysia to capture the first ever Sumatran Rhino on video. Then in 2008 researchers from WWF-Indonesia capered a rare Javan Rhino on video. Both discoveries made international news and were broadcast on all of the major US television networks. PixController, Inc. also designed custom remote HD camera controllers which enabled Dave Sirak, news operations manager WFTV Television of Orlando, FL to capture the first ever NASA Space Shuttle launches in HD. The NASA HD camera project was nominated for an Emmy for "Technical Achievement" in 2008. PixController camera system has also been featured in the History Channels hit series MonsterQuest. On October of 2009 PixController, Inc. was contacted by TV producers Ping Pong Productions from LA about being involved with a new series for Animal Planet. This would involve an on-camera role and require us to travel to several of the filming locations. In June of 2010 the series was approved by Animal Planet, and William flew to Prince of Whales Island in Alaska for two weeks to film the pilot episode of the new series "Finding Bigfoot". Powers setup some 30 cameras be brought along which included the Raptor Cellular system, DVREye video system, and DigitalEye still photo system. In February of 2011 Animal Planet approved a 6-part series. Powers flew to the first two locations in NC and GA for filming. The PixController cameras were used to search for evidence of Bigfoot in the series.PixController, Inc. began developing wildlife webcam technologies and began streaming their first wildlife webcam in 2004. In 2007 this webcam was selected by EarthCam as a winner of the 2007 “25 Most Interesting Webcam” award. However, in 2010 PixController, Inc. was contacted by Doug Hajicek, producer of the “MonsterQuest” series with a project lead by Dr. Lynn Rogers from the North American Bear Center in Ely, MN to help design a camera system for live streaming a black bear den.For the first time ever the entire world will have access to a streaming live webcam feed from inside the den of a wild hibernating female black bear named Lily. Located near Ely, MN, PixController, Inc. set up a streaming camera system inside the black bear den and a pan-tilt-zoom camera outside the den. The system streams the audio and video feed via an Internet connection for all to see.On January 25, 2010 Lily gave birth to a female cub named Hope with over 50,000 people viewing the birth live. Dr Lynn Rogers, who is known as the "Bearwalker of the Northwoods," has known Lily since she was born in January 2007. Dr Rogers, who monitored every moment of Lily's 21-hour labor with colleague Sue Mansfield, said: "We were seeing stuff we've never seen before. It was like she was having some contractions that were out of control." The story was featured twice on the popular NBC Today morning show and was published in newspapers all over the world. Then in 2014 PixController, Inc. received the Audubon Society James H. Hardie Award for outstanding environmental stewardship. The almost 3.4 million views of a webcam trained on the bald eagle nest in Pittsburgh's Hays neighborhood netted PixController, Inc. an environmental award from the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania. The video camera captured the successful hatching, raising and fledging of three eaglets this summer to a rapt audience of watchers from schoolchildren to senior citizen centers. “Honoring PixController was an obvious choice for us this year,” said Jim Bonner, executive director of the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania. “The webcam was responsible for more people watching nature in the region than anything else this year,” Bonner said.In 2017 William formed PixCam, an educational non-profit, for the sole purpose of using his webcam technologies to connect people with nature. PixCams live streams a large variety of wildlife webcams used as educational tools by teachers and enjoyed by many casual observers. Finally, in 2019 William co-founded PIOTech, Inc. and co-developed a hardware based live streaming encoder product called the EZ Streamer. The EZ Streamer is the first hardware encoder product designed for the purpose of using standard commercial IP cameras to stream to services such as YouTube or Facebook Live. Currently all of the PixCams webcams used the EZ Streamer product. ShareShare on Facebook TweetTweet on Twitter Pin itPin on Pinterest

In today's episode of the Resistance Library podcast, Molly and Sam discuss the ATF and the Bureau's controversial history of corruption and abuse. t's unlikely that there is a single federal alphabet organization less popular among the readership of this website than the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. These are the people who gave us both the Siege at Ruby Ridge and the Siege of Waco. What's more, they may well be engaged in an entirely unconstitutional exercise: monitoring and patrolling the gun ownership of law-abiding citizens. There's also a solid case to be made that the ATF is a rogue organization, the most corrupt of the federal alphabet agencies. This can be seen through a number of scandals beginning with Ruby Ridge, threading through the siege at Mount Carmel in Waco, and continuing to the notorious “Fast and Furious” scandal. While firearms owners, weapons enthusiasts and Second Amendment advocates might have a special bone to pick with the ATF, we believe that all freedom-loving Americans should be concerned about the overreach, lawlessness and lack of accountability in this organization. Roman poet Juvenal once posed an important (and famous) question about powerful justice officers: “Quis custodiet ipsos custodies?” – Who is to guard the guardians? All told, there are over 20,000 firearms laws and regulations on the books at the state and federal level. Many of these contradict each other or are written with a lot of room for interpretation. Gun owners and gun dealers are easy prey for a corrupt and lawless federal agency that wants to twist its arms outside the bounds of the law. It's also worth considering what overreach and lack of accountability other federal organizations are responsible for that we don't know about, simply because they do not have the same spotlight on them as the ATF – a reminder that the scandals mentioned above are just the ones that we know about. Clerical Conversations returns to begin Season 4 by discussing several topics near and dear to the hearts of Catholics. Bishop Daniel Dolan and Father Anthony Cekada share their many decades of pastoral experience and discuss the proper Catholic approach/attitude to and proper enjoyment of, in sequence, gambling, alcohol, tobacco, and firearms. What is a Catholic to think about partaking in games of chance, casinos, or upping the ante at a friendly poker game by placing a wager? How do we as Catholics living in the world today look at such things as the consumption of alcohol and just exactly where is the line that must be drawn when enjoying the beverage of one's choice? At what age should children be allowed to start consuming alcohol and what reasoning is given for that answer? Moving on to the great modern "evil" of tobacco, we place our conversation in contrast to today's secular mortal sin of tobacco use. We will talk about the historical relationship the Church had with tobacco use, how we can apply that to our lives today, some of the differences between then and now, and why society at large has turned its back on and its ire towards tobacco. We will examine why it is that our world has demonized cigarettes, cigars, pipes, snuff, and even e-cigarettes! Lastly we will discuss firearms, the proper Catholic understanding of them as a tool for recreation as well as self-defense, and some of the hidden agendas wrapped up in the possession, usage, and symbolism of them in today's culture. How must a Catholic view firearms and what steps must be taken to responsibly own them, all the while not allowing oneself to be swept up in the undercurrent of hidden revolutionary ideas? Join host Nicholas Wansbutter as he discusses these topics with His Lordship, Bishop Daniel Dolan and Father Anthony Cekada of St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in West Chester, Ohio on this month’s episode of Clerical Conversations.
