In this release, M&M talk about their second week in the USA, where they spent their time in Yosemite National Park and the nearby town of Oakhurst! They started with a breather after Vegas, before embarking on a 4 hour hike up to Wawona Point (within Mariposa Grove), the following day they ventured to Bass Lake, before going to Yosemite Valley on day 3 – they drove in & out of Yosemite and were staying in a trailer, surrounded by nature, for 5 nights and loved their time there! Find Megan @GrittsGetsFit on Instagram and find all of Mike's social media & other links at https://linktr.ee/GenuineChitChat - both M&M uploaded numerous photos from their travels to their Instagrams so make sure you check those out too! Have you ever noticed that when someone catches a big largemouth or Florida bass, like a double-digit bass, they refer to it as “she”, “her”, or “big girl”? That is because female bass get larger than male bass, and you'll never catch a male that big. In a normal population, half the population is male, so only the female half will have trophy potential. But we can change this dynamic if we only stock the lady bass. In this episode, Wes and Senior Fisheries Biologist Tim Bonvechio discuss the efforts Georgia DNR has been undertaking to create all-female lakes for better trophy fishing. They talk establishment, prey, harvest, and keeping out those pesky males who only have one thing on their mind. Tune in – this may be an option for your next pond or lake renovation! The trail to Bass Lake outside Stevensville is a must-do for anyone who wants to visit the craggy peaks of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. The trail starts off following Bass Creek through a narrow forested canyon, while distant summits occasionally peek out from behind the trees. After switchbacking past rocky outcrops, popping in and out of the trees, and passing fields of beargrass and paintbrush, you'll emerge on the shores of Bass Lake, which is surrounded by near-vertical rock walls and snowcapped summits. Turn around here for an 18-mile trip, or use it as a basecamp to explore the spectacular Bitterroots. Photo by Oliver Wood

Art is the medicine that actually allows us to metabolize charge. It allows us to metabolize trauma. It takes the intensity that's left in the system, and this goes all the way back to ritual. Art, for me, is a sort of a tributary coming off from ritual that is still sort of consensually allowed in this reality when the direct communication with nature through ritual was silenced.shante sojourn zenith, conscient podcast, May 4, 2021, MinnesotaShante' Sojourn Zenith is an animist somatic practitioner creating Edge Rituals to tend the wounds of her kin's unmetabolized ancestral trauma and developmental dissociation from embodiment by re-enlivening relationship to elemental earth consciousness and initiatory process. She works both one-on-one and in group spaces to create emergent explorations informed by nervous system state shifting, metaphor-based symbolic modeling, constellations, intuitive voice and movement, grief tending, and earth-rooted ritual. Shante' is currently germinating an art project called Long Body Prayers, a podcast, oracle deck, and pedagogical process for re-membering the relational root system of support each being is embedded in. Shante' has asked to name that in this podcast she is speaking from an entangled root system of animist somatics that will have aspects of her teachers and collaborators voices in her own words. What she speaks is a transmutation of many voices, including Kris Nourse, Azul Valerie Thome, Francis Weller, Annemiek van Helsdingen, Susan Raffo, Liz Koch, Tada Hozumi, Dare Sohei, Larissa Kaul, Deb Dana, and Sarah Peyton. Specifically in this podcast, her understanding of the way the Peak Valley Recovery Pattern relates to cultural bodies is credited to Tada Hozumi's essay What comes next? The dawn of a new era of cultural somatic activism (https://tadahozumi.com/what-comes-next-the-dawn-of-a-new-era-of-cultural-somatic-activism/). Other influential beings in Shante's unfolding have been the moon, a birch tree in Vermont, an oak tree in California, and the turtles of Bass Lake marsh on Dakota land in Mni Sota Makoce.I first heard about Shante's work through her Fruiting Bodies: Collapse as Medicine, Liminal Portals, Mycelial Entanglements essay in Dark Matter magazine. This sentence in particular caught my attention and stuck with me:… we fear experiences of disintegration, breakdown, and collapse. But what if the collapse is also a part of the medicine? There are openings and cracks in these times of breakdown, windows into other worlds. Her writing made sense to me, but I did not really understand how to relate he work to the climate emergency, so I asked her and was enriched by our conversation. It's the kind of recording that is worth listening to twice to further retain nuance. As I did with all episodes this season, I have integrated excerpts from previous episodes in this case, from e19 reality in this episode. I would like to thank Shante' for taking the time to speak with me, for sharing her world view, her practices, including the idea that ‘art is the medicine that actually allows us to metabolize charge'.For more information on Shante's work, see www.earthpoetedgeweaver.com. *END NOTES FOR ALL EPISODESHere is a link for more information on season 5. Both Andy and Desiree came from blue collar families. Desiree is originally from Arizona and comes from an extremely small town of approximately 30,000 people. As a result, coming to the Fresno area was extremely overwhelming for her. Andy is a mountain boy that grew up in Bass Lake, CA. Just about the time he was going to graduate from Fresno State University, he eventually made the move to Fresno, CA. They met while they both were attending college at Fresno State University. Desiree got her Bachelors degree in Psychology and she did college advising for a few years. Andy studied Fine Art, however he quickly realized that his degree wouldn't really give him the opportunity to line up a good job right after graduating college. So, he ended up double majoring in GIS, which led to a job in waste water treatment for about 10 years. As a stay at home mom, Desiree began teaching Yoga at GB3 (a local gym) a few nights a week. She talks about how stressful and vulnerable it was to get up in front of people and guide them through a very structured practice. There were lots of times where she would just go home crying in her car. Even though it was rough at first, she continued to push through it. And through this she realized that she wanted to teach more and more. She absolutely loved the community of people that yoga was allowing her to be around and wanted to find a way to get more of that community on a regular basis. Desiree and Andy talk a lot about all the obstacles that come with being in business with your spouse. They talk about how opening up their first studio, took a big toll on their relationship. However, their success has come from constantly supporting each other through the thick and thin times. Listen carefully, because they share some great insights about being in business with your spouse. Despite everything they have been through, they have found a way to work through it together and have come out on top. You can feel how genuinely these two amazing people love and care for each other. Their story is amazing and we hope that you enjoy it. Please reach out to either of us if there is ever anything that we can do for you or if you would just like to connect with us. JP and Dave reflect on the Wisconsin trip from last week, and how their time in the North Woods turned into a dream adventure. Dave caught not one, but two muskies to fulfill a lifelong goal, and JP landed a 4 pound smallmouth to mark off a bucket list accomplishment. If their smallmouth recap wasn't enough, they caught up with Chris Horton of the Congressional Sportsmen's Society, formerly the B.A.S.S Biologist to discuss how anglers can make a positive impact in legislation for their local waters, and primarily how somebody can dig and create their own bass fishing paradise, step by step by step. The summer 2014 issue of American Road Magazine brought back one of our favorite family themes for the lazy, hazy days, A Night at Drive In Part 2. This podcast is part 2 of a series focused on the Melody Drive In located in rural northern Indiana near the Bass Lake campground resort. Their family owned drive in is one of the few that still sport grass infield rather than asphalt or gravel and give an almost park like feel. But it has not always been nostalgic fun for the Heiss’s. Fred and his family have not only had to tackle rough economic times but also the wrath of Mother Nature. He will share the remodeling job a huge windstorm did to the big screens a few years ago.

On a beautiful early April day with the ice freshly melted from the lakes Erin and I head into the BWCAW. Our destination for this trip is the easily accessible Little Bass Lake just one portage away from North Hegman Lake. The Sun shining through the trees made for a serene portage through the woods.
