Send us a textFormer NHL player and Stanley Cup champion Jamal Mayers joins us for a fascinating journey through the ice, as we explore what it takes to reach your potential in hockey. We reminisce about our own encounters on the rink, including that unforgettable NHL game between Toronto and LA, and delve into Jamal's current adventures coaching his son's impressively ranked youth team. With fellow ex-NHLers by his side as assistant coaches, Jamal offers a treasure trove of insights into the joys and challenges of mentoring young players, stressing the importance of consistency and foundational skills. Our conversation shifts to the shifting landscape of junior and college hockey, where we dissect the recent NCAA policy change that allows Canadian Hockey League players to accept scholarships. This significant shift could rewrite the North American hockey playbook, with college teams now favoring older freshmen. We examine how these changes might influence leagues like the WHL and BCJ, and the newfound freedom players have in crafting their developmental paths, adding a new layer of complexity to the sport's future. Finally, we dive into the realm of youth hockey tournaments and coaching philosophies. The upcoming UMH 68 tournament promises an exciting platform for young players to shine, and we share personal coaching experiences that emphasize accountability, effort, and honest feedback. By weaving in anecdotes from my own journey coaching my son's team, we explore the delicate balance of being both a parent and a coach, and the importance of fostering a culture where young athletes can own their journey, ultimately crafting a holistic understanding of hockey development.

Psalm 11:3 (NKJV)If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do? Foundation of moral decencyFoundation of the sanctity of life(NZ's foundations were built on Judeo-Christian values & principles) There has been a gradual eroding of the moral foundations of our nation. Successive ungodly politicians have passed ungodly laws in our nation. The bedrock of our Judeo-Christian values & principles has been attacked, and is being replaced with atheistic & socialistic beliefs and practices. (Socialism is the doctrine of secular humanism)(Secular humanism is the religion of atheists) Romans 8:26 (NKJV)Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. The Holy Spirit helps us in our weaknesses (limitations)We do not (always) know what, or how we should pray as we shouldThe Holy Spirit makes intercession (prayers) for us with groaningsThese groanings include praying in tonguesHe (the Holy Spirit) makes intercession for us (in tongues - through us) Our General Elections are now behind us!But we continue to pray towards the formation of a coalition government from yesterday's election results. We pray for a “best-case scenario” that the elections results can deliver, instead of a worse-case scenario. Praying & interceding with “stammering lips” and “another tongue” Isaiah 28:9–11 (NKJV)Whom will he teach knowledge? And whom will he make to understand the message? Those just weaned from milk? Those just drawn from the breasts?10For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little.”11For with stammering lips and another tongueHe will speak to this people. The context of this passage: The Israelites were backslidden and had slipped into a lifestyle of drunkenness (Ephraim – Northern kingdom)The priests and prophets also had lost their way through intoxicating drink and begun to err in visions and in judgments God sent Isaiah the prophet to deliver a message of repentance to them, but they would not listenThen God warned them that because of their unwillingness to listen or receive His word, the Assyrian army would invade their landHe told them that the invading army were people that spoke with “stammering lips” and with “another tongue” 1 Corinthians 14:18–21 (TNIV) I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. 19But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue.20Brothers and sisters, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults. 21In the Law it is written:“With other tonguesand through the lips of foreignersI will speak to this people, but even then they will not listen to me,says the Lord.” Apostle Paul corrected the Corinthian believers concerning their wrong use of the gift of speaking in tonguesThey were giving public messages in tongues in their church meetings without anyone bringing the interpretation of tonguesSo he told them that (privately - for personal edification), he spoke in tongues more than any of them, but publicly, he would rather speak in a language they would understand so he could teach them something Then he quoted the passage of Scripture from Isaiah 28:11 about stammering lips and another tongue, and applied it to the gift of speaking in tongues What's interesting is: The “stammering lips” and “foreign tongue” in Isaiah 28:11was reference to the Assyrian invasion that would take placeThe Outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost was also an invasion – an invasion of the Holy SpiritAnd this invasion of the Holy Spirit resulted in God's people speaking with “stammering lips” and with “another tongue” Matthew 3:1-2, 8 (BCJ) ... John the Baptizer, by his own witness in the deserts of Judea, announced the beginning of Jesus' ministry. 2 He said to everyone who would listen, "Change your attitudes and your actions. Prepare yourself for an invasion of the Spirit dimension which is imminent." ...8 If you intend to participate in the imminent spiritual invasion, demonstrate a change in your attitude and actions. Matthew 4:17 (BCJ) ... Jesus began His ministry saying to all the people, "Change your attitude and actions because an invasion of the Spirit is imminent...." The fulness of this Holy Spirit invasion took place some 3 years later, on the Day of Pentecost. Praying for another invasion of the Holy Spirit When we pray in tongues and intercede for our nation, we are preparing the way for God to bring a fresh Outpouring of His Spirit in New Zealand. We are preparing our own hearts so we ourselves can participate in the next spiritual invasionWe also pray for the hearts of others to be softened and prepared so they can participate in the next spiritual invasion God wants to invade every home in our nation, and captivate the heart of every man, every woman and every child. God wants to invade our Parliament, and arrest the hearts of our politicians and all of their advisors and policy writers. God wants to invade every factory, every board room, every hospital, every prison, and every sports field and grip the hearts of the people there and turn them toward Himself. When the Spirit invades the lives of people, we can expect the following to happen: John 16:8 (NKJV)And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Conviction of sin in the lives of the spiritually lost people is the sole function of the Holy SpiritConviction of sin in the lives of believers is also the sole function of the Holy Spirit We need more Holy Spirit! Acts 2:17 (NKJV)And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh … When we pray in tongues, God pours out of his Spirit on all humanity.

This week Topher runs tech for a show where Blake Griffin reads the script of Space Jam, Kristen meets Snoop Dog and doesn't run, and we discover who the perfect man and woman are. TOPHER: Welcome to Kristen Teaches Topher Sports. This is the show for people who want to learn about sports, for guys who wanna hear Kristen talk, and for people who want to make fun of me. My name is Topher Harless and I’m in a sunny Los Angeles. KRISTEN: and it’s still cold here! in Atlanta Georgia, I’m Kristen Ledlow. Recap of our personal lives Last podcast was Feb 8th Gladiator RockNRun - Talk About Autism - TopherHarless.com All-Star Weekend - hanging with Snoop, unafraid Weekly Sports Recap - NBA Playoffs tip off next week, NCAA athletes can receive unlimited meals and snacks now, Bubba Watson wins The Masters (and went to Waffle House and ordered a grilled cheese and hash browns afterward). Topher’s Man Tips: It’s fine to shave, but remember after your shave. Otherwise vinegar will get on your face and you may end up whining all day and that’s not manly. Topher’s Lingo Assist - “playoff berth” Justin or Jerk - Nothing bad has happened this week except him getting back with Selena Gomez. However, did you see the deposition video where you see the true Justin? I think America is getting wise to him. They’re not letting him into clubs. Pop Inspiration Athlete of the week - George Brett meets Lorde after inspiring “Royals” Sports Drama - Two college football stars -- both expected to be selected in the upcoming NFL Draft -- are wanted for questioning by the NYPD in connection to an alleged attack at an NYC nightclub. Officials have confirmed ... 22-year-old Victor Hampton and 22-year-old Kelcy Quarles are "wanted for questioning at the very least" regarding an incident at Greenhouse nightclub on April 11. Both players were standouts at the University of South Carolina and have been projected to be 2nd or 3rd round draft picks. As for the incident, sources say there was a fight in the VIP section of the club involving a club promoter -- who was allegedly attacked by 3 men and suffered "extensive facial injuries." So far, no arrests have been made and the NYPD tells us the investigation is ongoing. Aldon Smith's bomb arrest in L.A. could cost him in his felony gun case in Northern California . Back in 2013 Smith was charged with illegal possession of an assault weapon. Smith has already pled not guilty to the charge. Now, officials tell us Smith's arrest in L.A. for allegedly making false bomb threats at LAX this weekend could impact that case. If Smith is charged with a crime in L.A., prosecutors in Santa Clara could move to significantly increase Smith's bail based on him being a danger to society. His bail is currently set at $50k. Smith is facing up to 4 years and 4 months in county jail if convicted of the gun charge. Aaron Hernandez is being investigated for allegedly threatening to shoot and kill a guard at Bristol County Jail late last year. Investigators recently met with an ex-inmate who was locked up near Hernandez at BCJ to discuss a 2013 incident between the former New England Patriots tight end and a correctional officer. During the questioning ... investigators asked if Hernandez had threatened to kill the guard -- who blew the whistle on Aaron when he was trying to deviously score extra food inside the joint.
