There's a stark difference between being interested in improving your golf game and being committed to improving it. Unfortunately, many say they're committed, yet they're merely interested. In today's episode, you'll learn the difference between being interested in shooting lower scores versus being committed to shooting lower scores, as well as five specific areas you can bring commitment to so that you can begin shooting more pars than bogeys.  Start listening. P.S. Curious about how hypnosis can help you shoot more pars than bogeys? Learn more about what hypnosis is and is not, how it works, and how it can help you get unstuck from the proverbial bunker of poor performance. Learn more here. Key Points: Commitment is essential for improving your golf game and achieving your goals. Detach your self-worth from your golf score to avoid negative emotions and maintain healthy relationships. Being committed means taking action and following through, not just being interested. Choose one approach for swing technique and stick to it, avoiding distractions and conflicting advice. Create a pre-round course management strategy to make informed decisions and shoot the lowest score possible. Trust your instincts in club selection and commit to your chosen swing execution. Develop a practice routine that aligns with your goals and prioritize consistent effort and improvement. Key Quotes: "Your ability to manage your emotions and keep them in check to not allow them to the driver seat of your decisions in daily life, you need to strengthen that skill." "Committed can be defined as feeling dedication and loyalty to a cause, activity or job. You are wholeheartedly dedicated. You are all in." "When you're committed, you do what you know you need to do, even when you don't feel like it." Subscribe to the More Pars Than Bogeys Newsletter. This newsletter helps double-digit golfers overcome the emotional and mental hazards of their minds so that they can shoot more pars than bogeys.  Each week, I'll provide insights, principles, and strategies to help you deter distractions, find your focus, manage your emotions, and cultivate boundless confidence so that you can play to your potential. How Humans Heal
#146 Getting to your Best Mental, Emotional and Spiritual State with Matt Belair

How Humans Heal

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 9, 2023 59:45

In today's episode I interview Matt Belair, a performance coach who has a ton of experience helping athletes, traveling, learning spirituality from different areas of the world, and now he is helping people by coaching them on their performance in their life.   Matt has studied human potential his entire life. He has dedicated himself to uncovering and expanding the limits of human potential and consciousness. He is an accomplished athlete, sought after high performance coach, host of the Master Mind, Body, and Spirit show which, reached #1 in iTunes in over 10 countries and is a best-selling author helping people live lives of passion purpose, fulfillment, and success.   In this episode we stop for a moment to have a conversation we don't normally even think about having. In our very busy lives, we do not normally stop and ask, “Am I really doing what I want with my life?” And “If I wanted to do something else with my life how could I even do that?”   For Matt this came very naturally in high school, he was very curious about spirituality and the idea of who he was, why was he here and what the heck is going on in this planet. His whole pursuit was trying to find the truth to the deeper questions in life about spirituality.   I think it takes a lot of courage to follow a path like that one. It's along the lines of a really philosophical path of asking who are we as humans and what are we meant to do. Trying to find answers to questions that we do not normally ask ourselves or others like “what is the meaning of life?” or “why do you think you're here?”, “what is most important to you?”, “how do we find happiness here?”, “what challenges or struggles are you going through?” and “how do we live up to our highest potential?”.   So today we go deep into these ideas to see how we can implement them into our own lives to improve our life quality and also to find ways in which we can support our families and friends in their lives.   Bringing Exercise and Spirituality Together   Martial Arts is one of the only sports that tends to blend the concepts of exercise and spirituality. Matt learned all about this by studying about Bruce Lee and travelling to China to work with Shaolin Monks.   In martial arts you have this mental, emotional, spiritual and focus side where you learn how to control your emotions, visualize your goal, and calm your mind. This takes away all the noise off your mind and lets you really focus to attain your goal, through meditation and energy direction.   Martial arts also have a very tough physical side in which you teach your body to endure enormous amounts of stress and pain, so you really test the limits of the human body.   The combination of the two makes a whole, you can't have one without the other if you want to achieve your highest potential.   If you apply that kind of dedication to what is most meaningful to you in this life, then there is no way that you could fail, you will succeed at some level, whether it's a great success or a minimal success, as long as it matters to you it will still be a success.   So, you have to start by asking yourself what matters to you most and why, what are your values and how do you want to live your life.   Most of the time we do not ask ourselves these questions, we wake up and we just start going through our to-do list, running through tasks and we think we are tired, and we don't have time for that. But the truth is it might be hard but you have to make time for this self-reflection so you can steer your life into doing the thing that you love.   Manifestation and The Law of Attraction   The God force is a concept that Matt developed stating that some greater force created us and that we are here for a reason.   This creation force has the power to change your life in any kind of way. On the other hand, there is the Zen concept where we are constantly influencing our reality and we can use the law of attraction: “I attract more to my life of whatever I give my attention, energy and focus to, whether positive or negative”. But you must also listen to that inner voice telling you who you really are, what kind of person do you really want to be.   Traveling and Broadening Your Perspective   There is a lot of value to traveling and listening to other people's perspectives, learning about other cultures, looking at different realities other than our own.   There is a concept called The Formula for Truth, where the basic idea is that all information out there is just that, information. We have our own perspective and other people have their perspective.   What we often do is defend our point of view and our ideas, which are mostly based on our life experience, instead of opening completely to the other person's perspective, point of view and opinions.   What this does is it narrows our world, and we keep being stuck in our small reality instead of being more open, having a greater degree of pattern recognition, and a higher acuity to discern   the truth. If we have more information about different topics then we are more likely to be free to act and take action to attain our goals.   Vibrations of the Energetic States that We can Be In   A lot of times we assume we do not have control over these states, but when we look at techniques like meditation for example or even just a gratitude journal, research shows that when we put intention into these activities that we can shift into a state of joy, love and gratitude and therefore shift our energetic state.   Most people believe that they are victims to their emotional states, but emotions are just the result of an external stimulus that creates an internal response. And the reality is that you can control those internal responses. We just need to take a minute, some deep breaths and choose how we want our internal response to look like. With practice we will not just automatically jump into the first internal response or emotion we feel.   It is absolutely normal to feel negative emotions like frustration, but we can choose not to react in frustration or to live in frustration even. So when you get up and life is frustrating you maybe stop reacting to it in that way and start realizing that frustration is part of life, this way you can start building your mental resilience.   To be easy and kind on yourself is also very important. If we can be a little kinder and more compassionate to ourselves, we can create a little space where we can separate the critical thoughts from ourselves and identify how do we really want to respond to any external stimulus.   Being Committed but not Attached to the Outcome   It's all about being in alignment, congruent to yourself and enjoying the process. If you enjoy the process, you will be able to act from power, because no matter the outcome you will have had success as you enjoy the process and grow as a person while on it.   The path of following your dreams and purpose is probably going to be way harder than getting a comfy job and paying your bills, but it will also be much more rewarding.   It's about figuring out what is most important to you and how can you take that and use it to contribute to other people. If you have a pure intent and you do your best, the outcome you get will be much more satisfying and fulfilling than the one you will get if you are not true to yourself, whether that outcome is a huge success or not.   It's important to identify the reasons why you are doing what you're doing and do it for the right reasons. For example, if your only motivation is money, it's very unlikely that you will have a fulfilling outcome in what you're doing. You could see yourself in a situation where you start to sacrifice your values and that, in the end, causes a dissonance that leads to suffering.   Potentially, this whole entire human experience could be this opportunity to not sell our souls.   When we're ok with what we have and what we do, when we're ok with our trust and relationships, when we're proud of ourselves and act with integrity, we are going to be in a powerful mental, emotional and spiritual state, and we are going to be more empowered in our decision making and, most importantly, when we die and we face that mirror on the other side we're going to have less regrets because we will know we did our best.   If you want to reach out to Matt and learn how he can help you, please check out his website or his Instagram @matt.belair.   If you want to learn more about my approach on how you can reconnect with yourself by overcoming trauma and stress and applying my SelfC.A.R.E. approach so you get back to feeling your best, you may want to start by reading my book Master Your Stress Reset Your Health.   In the book, I share the quiz I developed to help you identify how stress has affected you specifically by knowing your Stress Type. Being Committed takes consistent courage and awareness. If we are not careful, we can become derailed from walking purposefully with God. Senior Pastor Dr. Thomas illustrates Paul's journey and his willingness to commit to God & deny the flesh. - Adversity is guaranteed, but how you respond depends on your decision-making. - Give your all when it comes to following God's plan for your life! He plans to prosper those who believe in him. Our lives should be lived unto him, through him, for him, and about him. - Are God's works benefiting from your gifts & money that he has blessed you with? Truthful Takeaways: 1. Become Committed. 2. Giving God Full Access To Your Life. 3. Connect With Other Believers. 4. Don't present God with your scraps regarding tithing, prayer, and conversing with God daily. Money! We all love it and need to own it in order to support ourselves and our loved ones. In this episode, Jodi talks with Debbie Sassen about how to go about financial planning so that you can be empowered to be in control of your expenses. Debbie, who has an economics and financial background, shares her expertise so that you will feel more comfortable with your financial flow and making sure that it does not become a burden to you or your loved ones.2:45 Introducing Debbie Sassen and what she does“Money is very practical, the dollars and the cents, but the inner work that we have to do, all the messages that we have in our families, managing our brains, and our minds, and all the triggers that we have, that's where the real work comes in and so that's the real beauty that I love and I bring to my clients today”6:30: Being in Control of Your Finances“Rather than being reactive to what's going on outside of us, let's be proactive, and just start tracking your numbers.” 10:45 Tracking the Flow of Your Finances“It was like my money telling me where it went rather than me telling my money where I want it to go, and that's where the planning stage comes in.” 12:30: How to Own Your Financial Future“We know that Pesach (Passover) is going to happen every single year, and we know that it usually is higher expense that the rest of the months of the year (...) so if you had extra money on the side for that, it would make the holiday so much calmer."16:45: Being Committed to Your Finances“If you're committed to your relationship with money, you'll figure it out.”Want to connect with Debbie?Website: https://debbiesassen.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/debbiesassencoaching/Access Debbie's Gift For You here.Credits:Host: Jodi FriedGuest: Debbie SassenEditor: Matthew Feiler

Structure Q4, so it's on YOUR terms Here’s the strategy that is working for me: 1. Get motivated - the motivator could be rallying against someone who says you can't be successful, close that major deal or have that particular role. You’re determined to show them otherwise. Recently, whilst on holiday, I asked myself ‘If I was to start my business right here right now, what would I do? How would I do it? Starting with a blank canvas, what would I do? How would I change it?’ and you can do the same in your current role. By asking these questions, you will be gaining both clarity and motivation. By asking myself those questions, I’ve learned over time that the non-negotiables for me are: ● I have to be serving others; ● I have to be having fun; ● I have to be successful commercially. ● I have to be playing my A game and not my B game - so I have to be either talking or coaching etc. and not just writing (I’ve actually taken on someone to do my drafting for me). ● It has to be team orientated; and ● It has to be learning based. 2. Being Committed - being committed is about being smart in the way that we aim for success rather than going after everything. It's about 80/20ing the 80/20 and making sure that we're moving forward from that point. So we know how we can embrace our goals and follow through with achieving them. 3. Become your own chief relationship officer - I see this as fundamental to making the most of Q4. The people with the best depths of relationships are the ones who are most readily able to take things to a new level. Know what your key customers and prospects' challenges are, their fears, their ambition levels and their attitudes to risk etc. Why? When you've got that, it opens up the possibility of being able to use a tool like medic, the x, y sales tool, to identify the pain point, look at the key matrices, what the economic buyer is about and what the decision making process is. By adopting this approach, we will be working smart and working hard which hopefully is going to lead to the best possible end to the year. I wish you all the best! In this episode I interview Rev. Josh Reeves: minister for over 10 years, serving in Irvine, San Diego, Seal Beach, and most recently in Lakewood, Colorado. He has written three books and began a podcast this year entitled "Weekly Wisdom." Find his podcast here: http://themeaningplace.org Show Notes: 00:00: Opening  00:42 Introduction of Podcast 2:10 Intro to Reverend Josh Reeves Josh's message is were filled with humor, light, and such depth. Josh has been a minister for over ten years currently serving in Lakewood, CO. Written 3 booKs and began a podcast tilted weekly Wisdom. He loves people well. - Stacey   5:15 - A Different Take on Ministry I think I have a different perspective in the spiritual realm of things, in that religion, spiritual thinking and philosophy to me… I love it but it comes second to  living life and to people. That's my love and that's where I connect with a sense of the sacred most. Caring is the most essential thing that we do, both in a kinesthetic sense (moving our arms and our hands and getting out of bed to how we treat each other each day. For me, when we can put that as our foundation in whatever service work were doing its amazing and sacred what shows up.   7:45 - On Navigating Personalities and Where to Point Your Feet My essential spiritual practice is relating with people. That dialogue and that listening is so important to enriching our lives and feeling heard. What I’ve learned over time as well is that listening and conversation isn't just a one on one thing really. At its deepest level, the best talks that I give is when I'm really feeling tuned into the collective wisdom of the community. I want to get up there and be a reflection of their wisdom, not necessarily bring down from some philosophized mountain some wisdom for them that they don’t already have. I want to reflect their dreams, their vision, and sometimes even their pain. Speaking isn't so much giving a lecture, it's about building a rapport and having a conversation with folks around you. That to me is where real spiritual connection happens and real transformation can begin to occur.   14:03 Inspired to Become a Minister Part of what Im a ‘part’ of is almost like a Wild west of spirituality. So what I’m really interested in is what deep, inclusive spirituality really looks like and what does open minded spirituality really look like.   17:00 Principles of Science of Mind Science of mind as a philosophy started getting going in 1920s branch of The New Thought Movement comprised of half women leaders. New Thought to me is kind of a combination of folks who were trying to renew Christianity and renew values and focus on physical healing in particular with kind of this new found American Philosophy of Religion independence and self exploration. Science of Mind (as a branch of New Thought) is an exploration of the mind and what it can do. It's about using ancient spiritual wisdom that you might find in lots of different faiths and how do we apply it to the laboratory or life to get results. Our thoughts are creative and if we focus them in then we can co-create our lies with the divine power and law of attraction.   20:57 Yeah But Isn't This Just For The Rich Westerners I think there is this idea that our spirituality is about creating greater hope for ourselves, and remembering even when we’re suffering and going through hard times, that were children of God. That were beautiful and precious expressions of something.   23:40 Using where you are and then evolving something It’s interesting when a spirituality shows up as a certain time how we can use it and connect with it in our heart and translate it in a new way that it can actually evolve it over time. Change nothing evolve everything, by bringing more consciousness, more awareness, better listening. 26:16 On Vulnerability Something that I want to be able to do in ministry or when Im sharing is not just share my flaws, but really share how I’ve seen and found the sacred in my flaws and mistakes.   28:48 On Success Those people to me that are the most successful are the people who are putting their whole heart into what they do everyday whatever it is and are at peace wit it and themselves, People committed to their own thriving. I love seeing folks who are willing to shed the skin they've been in and be willing to be reborn in a new way.   32:59  One of my Biggest Life Lessons and Being Committed to Your Highest Good It was an important thing for me to give up trying to make things happen in my life To let all that go and  focusing on being really good at doing whatever was on front of me to do. When I stopped focusing on aiming to try and make things happen or forcing them to and just focused on doing a good job - the success and opportunities came out of that. As opposed to getting everything I wanted in life I got something even better, which is even More than I could have Imagined by being willing to not know and follow a path Success rarely works the way you tell it to, but as a natural fruition of being you at a high level instead of on low.   37:00 Favorite adages or quotes “Caring is everything” “All you can take with you is that which you've given away” To realize there are so many treasures within us and around us but when we hoard them and hold them, they lose all value. And so you have to share them with your life to really get the gifts and presents out of things. 38:12 On Safety, Openness, and Healthy Boundaries It brings relief for someone to say you're safe You can’t have fun if you don’t feel safe, you can’t learn if you don’t feel safe - Stacey “To the extent that we control, we limit love in our lives.”  - John Townsend Boundaries aren’t the walls that we build to keep eachother out, they’re the guidelines that we agree to so that we can have intimate space with one another.   42:05 On Listening and Judgement What I want to bring is not just a willingness to get people to dialogue, but to listen better and to also not be afraid to have their hearts broken. And by that I mean that is to not let themselves be complacent o the terribly shitty things that are going on out there. Sometimes we're so rushed to fix things, and find the answers to things, that we don't stop to acknowledge enough the pain and just be in it for a while. And that kind of takes courage, but you don’t get to that safe place to make right decisions until you’re willing to look the pain dead in the eye. Listening requires some form of understanding our connection. Understanding that when I’m listening to you, I’m listening in to me. That there is that communal wisdom. That there is a connection, we are threaded together. -Stacey Judgement is when you're in a relationship with an idea that you already have about somebody or something. And so the relationship you're in is in your head. The listening is already in your head so you're not really listening ndn present. You may have to change your philosophy and the things you've built your foundation on. “To truly listen is to risk being transformed forever.” Sakej Henderson 47:40 Sex is the answer… I mean Pie.   48:43: Where can you find Reverend Josh? EPISODE 20 – Being Committed to the Plan “There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses - only results.” ―Kenneth H. Blanchard It amazes me how many people don't get past the decision that they know that they need to make a change. Some people are only interested in making a change but do not want to put together a plan of action to really make that change become reality. Commitment is the feeling of dedication and loyalty to a cause, activity, or job; to be wholeheartedly dedicated. Commitment is important in any form of success. You will want to ensure that you have listened to Episode 19-Be Willing to Sacrifice for Success. How bad do you want what you say you want? Have you been talking about doing something or are you ready and committed to making a plan of action and to follow through? Get Your Mind Right. First of all, you need to believe you can do it when you believe that you can accomplish something you will persevere when tough times come upon you. Interest is talking about getting into shape; commitment is getting up and going to the gym regularly. Interest is surfing the Internet or researching information about a topic; commitment is about creating content and publishing it. Interest is buying a book on financial management; commitment is reviewing your numbers, tracking your spending, and implementing what you have read. Have you noticed the difference between interest and commitment? Interest is a passive activity; whereas, commitment is active. Commitment is about taking action and getting results. We can slip into the habit of interest very easily. If we look at the different areas of our lives, we might notice that some areas were more committed at certain times than we are at others. I was taken back recently as I was sharing many of the accomplishments and the growth of the podcast with a friend. She knows that I'm a big dreamer and I would like to accomplish so many more things. And then she posed the question, “Why are you stalling?” “Why are you holding yourself back?” She caught me off guard but at the same time, I had a moment of clarity. “Why wasn't I taking the actions steps I knew I needed to do?” I told myself that I have competing priorities. I had to remind myself where my greatest return on investment would be. If there is one thing I could be doing right now that would make the biggest difference, why wasn't I doing it? I had no excuse. I knew what I needed to do. I came home that evening and completed the paperwork that I needed to do to put the closure of something I had been delaying and to move forward direction. I contracted a freelancer to do some graphic design work for my speaker one sheet that I kept telling myself I had to edit. I stayed up till 3 AM because when you that I needed to get this done once and for all. No excuses! I made it a priority. I texted my friend and her with a response was awesome! It is interesting to me how others can see which you need to do but sometimes when you're so close to what your goal is for whatever reason you fail to see it. That is why it is important to surround yourself with people who support you and want to help you achieve your goals. When I was sharing this story with a mutual friend, she stated the same thing which reinforced to me that these new actions needed to be taken. My next question was: Do I truly believe the thoughts I have been having? No…so why should I hang on to the belief? Do what you need to do and see what happens? The “yes” you have been waiting for could be closer than you think. Sometimes we think that we need to be at a certain level of knowledge, fitness, or finances to be credible or believe that others will value what we have to say. You already know enough, you are perfect the way you are,
