Caleborate's NorCal meets New York vibe has earned the rapper a loyal following. With a new album around the corner, he talks to Jordan and Demi about his eclectic tastes and dream collabs.
Another great episode of The Transition incoming...but that's nothing new! On this week's episode we discuss A LOT of music: A new album of the year candidate: Spilligion, the 'King' of the R&B genre, and more! But along with that lighthearted discussion we have to speak about more serious things, namely Breonna Taylor. Her case's verdict was handed down and no surprise...they failed. Where does this leave justice in this country? Where does this leave black people? We'll attempt to address a few of those questions... Music recommendations: Shawn Smith's 'Till Death Do Us Art', Deante' Hitchcock's 'Better', Caleborate, Chris Stapleton - Cold, Reason - Sauce ft. Vince Staples Intro/Outro: Saiko - Ollies REMINDER: Make sure to check the voting procedures in your state! Bay Area rapper Caleborate joined G Biz, Max & Nump on the 2 Hard 4 Radio podcast! The Berkeley lyricist talked about his new project "Real Person," what it was like growing up in Sacramento during the Hyphy days, and then what it was like moving to Berkeley as a teen and witnessing the gentrification of the Bay.When Max asked about his song "Produced by J Cole," Caleborate explained how J Cole actually helped produce the song without even knowing! Caleborate also went into detail about his experiences at the Academy of Art and Expression College, and how those schools help him as an artist every single day.Speaking of education, Caleborate spoke in depth about how his brother is a GENIUS who's about to get his PhD, but also had time to record a song called "Matrimony" with him.We also covered a few random topics like: How does he feel about rappers like Lil Pump? Thoughts on Joe Budden leaving "Everyday Struggle?" Will the NFL let Diddy own a team? Before we let Caleborate leave, we had to have him spit a freestyle for us, and he did not disappoint! He dropped some straight FIRE!!!

Caleborate Talks Growing Up With a Playwright Father, Giving Up Hoops For Raps, Real Person, and Performs “4 Willem” Live In StudioCaleborate continues a counterintuitive trend in my listening habits. He's a rapper influenced by J.Cole that I personally find more listenable than J.Cole. I guess that specific generation is starting to gain traction. KN alums like J.I.D. and Deante' Hitchcock are prior examples of the phenomenon.Caleb breaks breaks our ongoing theme of bad dad relationships leading to great art. When his folks split as a kid, he and his brother decided to stay with their father. His dad was a working playwright and occasional teacher. They were no strangers to making a dollar stretch, and making it work. He instilled a sense of wonder and creativity in Caleb, acting in many of his fathers plays as a kid. After quitting basketball at 16, He started working on raps. His dad knew a guy with a studio and he started to hone his skills. After bouncing around a few colleges in the Bay Area, he met his current manager while working at the flagship Levi's store in SF. He's been putting in a ton of work, releasing Real Person, 1993, and Hella Good all within a 2 year period.Hear us discuss all of this and more and see him perform “4 Willem.”–Lee See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
