Stephenson, Jonathan Marchessault and Mark Stone each had a goal and an assist for Vegas, and Adin Hill saved 26 shots. Gone are those injuries that led to doubt whether he was still part of golf’s elite. Koepka won the PGA Championship at Oak Hill by closing with a 67 and winning by two shots over Scotties Scheffler and Viktor Hovland. He now has won the PGA Championship three times. And it was his fifth major title. Only 14 players have won more. It was the first major by a LIV Golf player since the Saudi-funded league began nearly a year ago. The Fever equaled the Tulsa Shock, who lost 20 straight games in 2011. Indiana lost 18 consecutive games to close out last season before falling to the Connecticut Sun on Friday in their opener. NCAAFB – Schembechler son resigns at Michigan after offensive social media content A son of longtime Michigan football coach Bo Schembechler has resigned from his position with the Wolverines, with the school saying it was aware of his social media activity that may have caused “pain” in the community. Glenn “Shemy” Schembechler stepped down Saturday, just days after he had been hired as assistant director of recruiting on Jim Harbaugh’s staff. The Detroit News reported that Schembechler’s Twitter feed contained posts and likes of offensive material, including some that suggested slavery and Jim Crow were positives to strengthen Black individuals and families. Schembechler played for his father, who coached Michigan from 1969-89. In a statement Sunday night, he said he had “inexplicably and irresponsibly” liked items on social media and asked for forgiveness. Indy 500 – Palou’s record run earns Ganassi third straight Indy 500 pole Alex Palou will lead the field to green in the Indianapolis 500 after the young Spaniard put together the fastest four-lap pole run in history Sunday. He edged Rinus VeeKay and Felix Rosenqvist and gave Chip Ganassi Racing its third pole in a row. Palou whipped four laps around the historic 2.5-mile speedway at an average of 234.217 mph. That was a mere 0.007 mph faster than VeeKay, who still gave Ed Carpenter Racing a front-row starting spot for the ninth time in the last 11 years. Palou surpassed the record pole run of 234.046 mph that Ganassi teammate Scott Dixon put up last year. It also was the second-fastest qualifying effort, trailing only Arie Luyendyk’s 236.986, which he set the day after pole qualifying in 1996. NASCAR – Larson dominates for third NASCAR All-Star race win, takes home $1 million Kyle Larson turned in a dominating effort to win his third All-Star race and earn $1 million in the Cup Series’ return to North Wilkesboro Speedway following a 27-year absence. Larson became only the fourth driver to win the All-Star race at least three times. Jimmie Johnson has the most with four victories, while Larson, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt have three. Larson is the first to win the All-Star race at three different tracks. He has won in Charlotte in 2019 and Texas in 2021. Bubba Wallace finished second in the 200-lap non-points exhibition race, followed by Tyler Reddick, Chase Briscoe and Chase Elliott. Cappie Pondexter retired from the WNBA just before the start of the 2019 season as one of the league’s greatest players of all time. A two-time league champion, 7-time all-star and Olympic gold medalist, Cappie's influence on the court is well-documented, but her bold voice and fashion statements have impacted so many players off the court, as well. Cappie was a featured panelist at an event hosted by RISE and The Shadow League in New York City entitled, The Vocal Black Athlete, where she discussed topics like identity and the evolution of athlete activism. In this episode, Cappie dives deeper into these subjects, talks about how she found her voice to advance her own advocacy work playing under legendary coach C. Vivian Stringer at Rutgers University and shares how she broke the mold of what it means to be a successful female athlete. She also discusses her career, saying there's no better duo in league history than she and Diana Taurasi from the Phoenix Mercury and shares fun insights from the 2008 Olympics, like winning a gold medal, bonding with Dwight Howard and eating private meals prepared by LeBron James' personal chef.

Special thanks to Chris Poss for allowing us to use his amazing photos! The Chicago Sky have had a very strange season. A tumultuous off season featured the replacement of the head coach and general manager, trading of their biggest star, and a draft day debacle that either did or did not feature a trade but ended with an injured post player that has not yet played. The season opened no better, with a 1-5 May followed by a 2-7 June. Starting point guard Courtney Vandersloot and sixth woman of the year Allie Quigley missed the start of the year due to overseas commitments, then after only four games Vandersloot left to go represent Hungary at EuroBasket 2017. The bottom came on June 30th, when previously winless San Antonio knocked off the Sky, 89-82. During that game, Vandersloot took six shots. While she dished nine assists, she was not scoring the way the Sky needed her to. A funny thing happened the next game, one that could have been a disaster for a 3-12 team hosting first place Minnesota, the best team in the league. Vandersloot shot 16 times, hitting 11 of them. She scored 26 points, and dropped a then season-high 13 assists as the Sky upset the Lynx in a 100-76 blowout. That was the first of three wins in a row, and suddenly with two games to go in July, Chicago has won five of their seven games, and the playoffs aren't so far fetched. Granted this is still a team in process. Vandersloot, Quigley and Cappie Pondexter makes for a great three guard rotation, but it forces Tamera Young, who has been having an excellent season, into the crowded front court picture, where she seems to be losing minutes. The WNBA semi-final playoff rounds begin tonight, with Phoenix at Minnesota at 8 pm ET, and Chicago at Los Angeles following that at 10 pm ET. Both have star power and should be a lot of fun to watch, but we are particularly interested in the second series, the second-seeded Sparks and fourth-seeded Sky going at it. These teams both have tremendous stories and had tremendous years. Los Angeles rolled through a historic beginning of the year, and battled the Lynx for top spot in the league most of the season. They feature the league's Most Valuable Player, Nneka Ogwumike, and one of the most versatile players the game has seen in Candace Parker. Chicago has their own MVP candidate in Elena Delle Donne, who finished fourth in the league balloting, but is out for the series after a thumb injury required surgery. The versatility and overall skill of the Sky has been on display with players like Cappie Pondexter and Courtney Vandersloot picking up their scoring, and Jessica Breland and Imani Boyette rebounding and screening. Both of these teams also feature talented players that know their roles and execute them to near perfection. Jantel Lavender of the Sparks was a 2015 All-Star, starting every game for the season. She came into camp a little bit late due to her international commitments, and, as she says on the podcast, there was already some roles defined. Lavender is a win before stats player, and slide seamlessly into the 6th player role, and thrived. She was already named AP and our own "Dishie" 6th player of the year, and the league award is expected to follow.
