WATCH THE CONVERSATION ON YOUTUBE: https://youtu.be/2yK4Ag_Ca2g As we have just passed the grim one-year anniversary of 10/07, we continue our dedicated series in which we take a longer horizon perspective, asking one guest each week to look back at this past year and the year ahead. If you are listening to this episode on a podcast app, please note that this episode was filmed in a studio and is also available in video form on our YouTube channel. For the fifth installment of this special series, we sat down with Dr. Tal Becker, who serves as Vice President and Senior Faculty of the Kogod Research Center at Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem. Tal was the former Legal Adviser of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is a veteran member of successive Israeli peace negotiation teams and, most recently, represented Israel before the International Court of Justice and played an instrumental role in negotiating and drafting the historic peace and normalization agreements (the "Abraham Accords"). Tal earned his doctorate from Columbia University in New York City, and is the recipient of numerous scholarly awards, including the Rabin Peace Prize, and the Guggenheim Prize for best international law book for his book "Terrorism and the State". Finally, we have received a number of requests for recommendations of organizations in Israel to donate to around this one-year anniversary of 10/07. There are so many organizations doing important work to help Israelis rebuild from the events of the last year — and the ongoing war. This list is by no means comprehensive. It is simply an opportunity to highlight four groups whose work has moved us and who deserve additional support (we will add additional recommendations in the days ahead): -IDF Widows & Orphans Organization (IDFWO), an Israeli non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the spouses and children of Israel's fallen heroes. They provide emotional care, financial assistance, educational opportunities, and a community for those affected most by Israel's wars. — https://www.idfwo.org/en/ -Since October 8, Hezbollah has fired thousands of rockets, anti-tank missiles, and explosive UAVs at Israeli civilian and military targets in the north. As worries mount, Rambam Medical Center has cared for the wounded and prepared for war. This 1,100-bed medical center in Haifa has transferred its critical medical care to an underground emergency hospital. Rambam's underground hospital – capable of housing 8,000 people — will play a critical role going forward in treating wounded soldiers and civilians; protecting and caring for the needs of medical staff and their families; and protecting and caring for the residents of Israel's Northern Region. — https://aforam.org/ -Leket Israel, Israel's largest food rescue operation, is committed to leading the safe, effective and efficient collection and distribution of surplus nutritious food in Israel to those who need it. To pick just one inspiring example: since October 7th, Leket has committed itself to providing healthy food to the 250,000 displaced Israelis, many of whom have been residing in hotels for the last year. Leket has installed produce stands in hotels across Israel, providing evacuees with a consistent supply of fresh fruit and vegetables, free of charge, which Leket purchases from struggling Israeli growers. — https://www.leket.org/en/ -Kav L'noar's therapy services have provided essential psychological support to communities in the South directly impacted by the war and the October 7th massacre. Their therapeutic interventions are tailored to address the unique emotional and psychological challenges faced by individuals affected by the war, empowering survivors to navigate the aftermath, rebuild resilience, and foster a sense of collective strength. — https://www.kavlnoar.org/israelatwar
In this special episode of the Z3 Podcast, host Rabbi Amitai Fraiman is joined by two guests involved with Jewish life at UC Berkeley: Rav Maya Zinkow, Campus Rabbi, and Dr. Masua Sagiv, Koret Visiting Assistant Professor of Jewish and Israel Studies and Senior Faculty member at the Shalom Hartman Institute. In this roundtable discussion, all three reflect on their recent visits and experiences in Israel and explore the emotional and political divide between the realities on the ground in Israel and the discourse in the U.S., particularly on college campuses. The conversation dives into the challenges Jewish students face navigating campus life, where progressive movements often clash with Zionism during a time where social media amplifies misinformation and extremist narratives, complicating conversations about Israel, and leaving students caught between popular opinion and their Jewish identity. Rav Maya and Dr. Sagiv discuss the delicate balance of providing pastoral care to students while also encouraging critical thinking on complex issues like Israel, Zionism, and Jewish identity. This episode offers a thoughtful discussion on the intersection of Jewish education, campus activism, and the future of Jewish identity in both Israel and the diaspora. Before starting her rabbinic studies, Maya graduated from Barnard College with a degree in English literature and creative writing, and followed her love of text to the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies, where she learned Torah for two years and now serves as summer faculty. On this episode of the Healthy, Wealthy, and Smart podcast, Dr. Jennifer Stevens-Lapsley and Dr. Kory Zimney, underscored the crucial role clinicians play in influencing the APTA research agenda. They emphasized that clinicians should be invested in the research agenda as it directly impacts their practice and the well-being of their patients. Here are key takeaways from the episode on how clinicians can actively contribute to the APTA research agenda: 1. Data Collection: Clinicians are encouraged to start gathering outcomes data in their clinical settings. This data serves as a valuable resource for addressing research inquiries and refining clinical practices. By systematically collecting data on patient outcomes, clinicians can bolster the evidence base, guiding decision-making at both individual patient levels and broader research endeavors. 2. Questioning: Clinicians are uniquely positioned to identify knowledge gaps and areas requiring further research. By posing questions based on their clinical experiences, clinicians can help shape research priorities and initiate meaningful research projects. Cultivating a curious mindset can lead to the formulation of research questions that tackle real-world clinical challenges. 3. Collaboration with Researchers: Collaboration between clinicians and researchers is pivotal for advancing the field of physical therapy. Clinicians can collaborate with researchers by sharing clinical insights, participating in research studies, and engaging in discussions on research findings. Through joint efforts, clinicians and researchers can ensure that research remains relevant, practical, and directly applicable to clinical settings. 4. Networking and Relationship Building: Clinicians are urged to network with researchers, academic institutions, and other healthcare professionals to foster collaborations and knowledge exchange. Establishing relationships with researchers can provide clinicians with opportunities to contribute to research projects, access resources, and stay abreast of the latest research developments in physical therapy. 5. Promoting Evidence-Based Practice: Physical therapists are an evidence-based profession who rely on research to inform their clinical interventions. By actively engaging with the APTA research agenda and participating in research endeavors, clinicians can enhance the quality of care they deliver and contribute to the advancement of the profession. Welcome to a special episode of Transforming Trauma featuring NARM creator Dr. Laurence Heller and NARM Senior Trainer Brad Kammer. This webinar provides a glimpse into the NARM Inner Circle online program and invites clinicians, therapists, and helping professionals to explore the foundation of health and trust upon which NARM is built. Brad and Larry begin this conversation with a reflective exercise, then zoom out to reveal a link between suboptimal emotional and physical health and the survival patterns acquired in response to developmental trauma. Throughout their conversation, Larry and Brad also identify ways in which this model of health and trust informs the four pillars of NARM––clarifying the therapeutic contract, asking exploratory questions, reinforcing agency, reflecting psychobiological shifts––and impacts client-practitioner interactions. About Dr. Laurence Heller: Dr. Laurence Heller is the creator of the NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM), Senior Faculty member, International Trainer, and co-author of Healing Developmental Trauma and The Practical Guide for Healing Developmental Trauma. About Brad Kammer: Brad Kammer, LMFT, LPCC, is a somatic psychotherapist, consultant, professor, NARM Senior Trainer, and NARM Training Director. Imagine being told from a very young age that the church your family attends is the only real church in the world? That even the thought of leaving the church is tantamount to rebellion against God?Our guest on today's episode experienced that, and let's just say it had a negative effect on her. After becoming wise to the ways of the world, Karen Y. Wilson Wilson-Starks realized the folly of such a doctrine and finally left her church. But it came at a cost of also leaving the only identity in Jesus she had ever known.A true "wilderness experience" as she puts it. But those who have tasted the good things of God always come back to Him, and Karen did so eventually. She's dealt with her fair share of legalism and man-made criteria as an adult after rediscovering her love for God, but has also met legit shining lights for the Gospel. So much so that she ministers to those who have endured similar estrangement from the Truth and encourages them to seek and find Jesus. In this conversation with Dr. Karen Y. Wilson-Starks, you'll learn:-Karen's journey from "pharisaical, law-based religion" to true freedom in Christ...05:00-Escaping the oppression of a rules-based pseudo-gospel...11:38-The unfolding of family life, and how it impacted Karen's character as an adult...13:50-Discovering true freedom after wandering in a figurative wilderness for a period of time...19:00-Advice for those who desire God, but are still on the precipice of finding God...25:00-A divine meeting finally allows Karen and her husband to marry...27:20-The most important lesson Karen has learned through her experiences in life...35:40-Getting intimate with Jesus without worrying about meeting a bunch of man-made criteria...38:01-How God has used Karen's unique experiences to minister in the marketplace...42:08-And much more!Resources mentioned:LinkedInFacebookInstagramFREE Giveaway: www.transleadership.com/positiveGuest's bio and social handles:Dr. Karen Y. Facilitated by host Emily, Dr. Laurence Heller and Dr. Stephen Porges engage in a stimulating conversation about safety cues, life-threat reactions, shame, and connection as our “biological imperative.” Dr. Porges, a distinguished neuroscientist and originator of the Polyvagal Theory, emphasizes the importance of physiological states in expressing trauma-related behavioral and health problems. The fascinating exploration takes the listener on a journey of understanding trauma: from learning how the NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM) and the Polyvagal Theory have profoundly impacted the knowledge of trauma and how the two frameworks relate. Dr. Heller: “What we learn in adapting to connection failures very early on in life is what we have a tendency to carry forward, not just on a cognitive level but on an emotional level and a physiological level.” About Dr. Larry Heller and Dr. Stephen Porges: Dr. Laurence Heller is the creator of the NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM), Senior Faculty member, International Trainer, and author. Stephen W. Porges, Ph.D., is Distinguished University Scientist at Indiana University, where he is the founding director of the Traumatic Stress Research Consortium. He is Professor of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina and Professor Emeritus at the University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of Maryland. In 1994, Dr. Porges proposed the Polyvagal Theory. The construct links the evolution of the mammalian autonomic nervous system to social behavior and emphasizes the importance of physiological state in expressing behavioral problems and psychiatric disorders. He has published several books and more than 400 peer-reviewed papers. In this Intersections episode, Prof. Hitendra Wadhwa and Dr. Raghu Krishnamoorthy offer critical insights on:How we're moving from a “find it out” world to a “figure it out” worldWhat it takes to advance leadership from being business-centered to human-centeredMoving beyond outer metrics to ground leadership in inner metricsHow empathy and compassion can drive organizational performanceMoving from “getting the most out” to “bringing the best out” of employeesIn the post-pandemic era, trends such as the “Great Resignation,” hybrid work and employee well-being are creating a paradigm shift in organizational culture. These trends require us to go back to the basics to redefine the model of what it means to be an exceptional leader. The way we lead today needs to evolve to embrace the new future of work, workers and the workplace.Based on Dr. Wadhwa's recently published book, Inner Mastery, Outer Impact, we will examine how Inner Mastery could provide the foundation on which leaders can tackle these shifts for their organizations — as they manage people and drive performance, equip their managers with new skills and tools to tackle the accompanying challenges, and help employees operate in an ever-changing landscape of continued disruption.Raghu Krishnamoorthy is a seasoned global executive with 35+ years of experience in driving business outcomes as a Human Resources professional. He retired from General Electric (GE) as the CHRO in early 2019, after 25 years with the company — doing work that spanned three continents, several multi-billion-dollar lines of business, and exciting corporate leadership roles. At Mentora, Raghu serves as an Executive Director and Senior Faculty, driving pragmatic, application-oriented solutions for Mentora clients in learning and transformational change.Raghu is often sought out to share his expertise at leading universities and forums including Harvard, MIT, Yale, Columbia, the Economist and the Milken Institute. He has recently taken on the role of Director of the “Chief Learning Officer Executive Doctoral Program” at the University of Pennsylvania. His research has won the best paper award at the Academy of Business Research August conference. He was also named one of the top 50 Asian Americans in the world of business in 2009.

About Wayne Hart: He has over 50 years of experience applying transactional analysis as an executive coach, as a petroleum company executive, as a business owner of an information management company, as a psychologist, as a leadership development trainer, and he was a board member of three organizations; a community health center, a sustainable organization, and a professional organization. In each of those settings, he worked with different models for understanding people and producing outcomes and through it all, transactional analysis has been a universal model for understanding himself and others and for getting things accomplished. He is now dedicated to teaching others how to apply transactional analysis in their settings, under whatever conditions or challenges they face. Wayne was Senior Faculty at the Center For Creative Leadership from 1999 to 2018 and his publications include, “Feedback and Performance Reviews” and “7 Keys To Successful Mentoring”. In this episode, Jordan and Wayne Hart discuss: What is transactional analysis? The drama triangle and games Developing into an adult ego state Understanding the rescuer Key Takeaways Transactional analysis is a theory of personality and methods for managing both our own behavior and that of others. A personality is a collection of patterns of behavior that are recurring enough that a person can be known by those patterns of behavior which includes thoughts, feelings, actions There's three roles in a drama triangle: the rescuer, the victim, and the persecutor. Being in a drama triangle becomes especially dysfunctional when a person is in a trap or in a game where they switch roles back and forth. Developing into an adult ego state means identifying patterns that you've acquired growing up, authenticating them or ruling out things that are not useful, relevant, or accurate anymore. People are complex, rescuers spend a percentage of their energy both in the victim and persecutor role. It's important to understand that when they are rescuing, there's an injury they're trying to get fixed and a part of them is unhappy with themselves and other people. “I help people recognize the pattern that is rescuing, help them recognize that in themselves and teach them to use a different ego state - for instance, one that has compassion but also sets firm limits.” — Wayne Hart Connect with Wayne Hart, Ph.D: Website: https://www.ta-now.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/wayne-hart-ph-d-tsta-7493492/ Connect with Jordan: For executives wanting a complimentary executive coaching conversation: jordan@jordangoldrich.com Website: www.workplacewarriorinc.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/jordangoldrich1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jordan.goldrich Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jordangoldrich/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jgoldrich/
