In this episode, we discussed Season 1 of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. And while we spent the episode mostly talking about the show and how it had and amazing story with some great writing. We also pointed out a couple of flaws along with a discussion about the Geass power's limits also got pretty heated and went way off into hypotheticals, maybe derailing things a bit. And the biggest negative we both agreed on? That incredibly frustrating cliffhanger ending! The sequel to Sunrise's mecha action political drama Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion follows the exiled prince Lelouch as he once again assumes his masked identity as the Japanese freedom fighter Zero, using his magical power to compel people to set up a series of convoluted plans that escalate to a world war. BJ and Duffo watch the first 12 episodes and discuss making an anime in the backroom of a convenience store, tricking the government into exiling over a million people onto an iceberg, and having your terrorism career interrupted by all of the hot dates your ninja maid scheduled while disguised as you.   Our theme song is Endless 808 by I.K.

In this episode of Boku No Stop! we discuss episodes 1-2 of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. Content Warnings: all-around violence, suicide, racism, ethnic cleansing (those last two are basically just the entire season) We're back! Chris is back! New series! Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion is a wild ride, and our two first-timers are shocked out the gate to learn "Wait, this is going this hard from episode one?" because, dear listeners, neither of us knew this was about fantasy racism and colonialism. We just knew there were mechs. Get ready to have a frank discussion about how uncomfortable it is to hear people referred to by in-universe slurs so casually from week to week, and be ready for the hammiest acting this side of a Resident Evil game, because CG seems to have tied a brick to the accelerator and leapt out of the vehicle. Welcome to another episode of OTTplay Lost and Found, one podcast that talks about critically acclaimed films and shows that are lesser-known. I'm your host NikhilJapanese anime have become widely popular across the globe since the late 80s. The anime series, often inspired from Japanese manga comics, have pushed the boundaries of storytelling producing some of the most riveting stories ever created. These stories invariably range from period dramas to dystopian sci-fi with elements of fantasy incorporated into the narrative. Some of the more popular anime such as the Mobile Suit Gundam series, Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Transformers series, and Neon Genesis Evangelion are called mecha anime, featuring large humanoid robots used for battle. However, despite being revered as one of the greatest  mecha anime of all time, Code Geass: Lelouch Of The Rebellion is often overlooked. Created by Gorō Taniguchi, the series is set in an alternative timeline in a world similar to George Orwell's 1984 where a dystopian world is split into three large countries, the Holy Britannian Empire, the Chinese Federation, and the Europa United. In this dystopian world Japan is ruled by Britannia where its citizens are stripped of fundamental rights. An exiled prince of Britannia, Lelouch Lamperouge, launches a rebellion against the regime with the help of fighter robots. The series received praise for its complex characters and exploration of Orwellian themes and imperialism. The riveting storyline and animation design elevates the series to one of the finest Japan has produced. The series ran for two seasons and has inspired animated film adaptations and manga comics. You can watch this series on Netflix. Well that's the OTTplay Lost and Found episode for today, until the next podcast it's your host Nikhil signing out.Aaj kya dekhoge OTTplay se poocho

On this week's new episode of the Joint Geeks of Staff, join hosts Eric Muirhead and Ian Boley as we welcome our guest, Dr. Nyri Bakkalian to discuss the role of history and national security in influencing Japanese science fiction and anime.  How did centuries of military dictatorship influence post-World War II movies, manga, and television? How do Kaiju represent Japanese fears of foreign invasion? When did Ronald McDonald first arrive in Japan? The answers might surprise you… Check out Nyri's weekly podcast Friday Night History at https://anchor.fm/fridaynighthistory Also, check out her appearance on Preble Hall with Claude, talking about the Shogunate Navy:https://www.owltail.com/podcast/7s9Ll-Preble-Hall/best-episodes Works cited: Learn more about how the “Closed Country” myth isn't really true with historian Ronald Toby:https://www.sup.org/books/title/?id=3142 Did Early Modern Japanese always follow the rules and tell the truth to their superiors? Luke Roberts begs to differ:https://uhpress.hawaii.edu/title/performing-the-great-peace-political-space-and-open-secrets-in-tokugawa-japan/ Recommended reading for those interested in the more serious side of Japanese media and national security: First, above all else (Ian is embarrassed he didn't mention this on the show) check out Mobile Suit Gundam: the 08th MS Team on Hulu. Basically, this 12-episode series is a well-done Vietnam War movie with very realistically-portrayed giant robots. Themes explored include the inhumanity of war, the plight of the average soldier, and the challenges of mechanized war in a hostile environment. If you have ever enjoyed any Vietnam War movie and any sci-fi property, this one is easy to sink your teeth into.  After that, Ian suggests exploring one of two options. The first is Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, which is streaming on Netflix. Code Geass is about a high school prodigy who leads a Japanese ethno-nationalist insurgency against a globe-spanning superpower. Themes include political legitimacy, the nature of insurgencies, and the role of the individual actor in international affairs. Want to watch a rebellion in the 1984 world with giant robots? This might be your jam. Alternatively, you can check out Aldnoah.Zero on HBOMax. This show is about a war between a technologically superior Martian civilization and a more-or-less present-day Earth. This story follows a group of Terran high school students as they get swept up by the conflict and are forced to fight as part of a local militia force. Themes include Clausewitzian theories of war, political legitimacy, and the relative advantages of discipline vs firepower. Come for the incredible soundtrack, stay for the hard-sf battles in the Terran orbital debris belt.  These are some of the more accessible military sci-fi anime out there, but there are also other media to check out, like the light novels All You Need is Kill (the basis for Edge of Tomorrow) and Yukikaze (an aerial combat piece that has been compared to Starship Troopers in terms of its impact on Japanese sci-fi). Feel free to ask around in the Discord for more recommendations!  Check out our Discord at discord.gg/6xg2sApfGJ The Joint Geeks on this episode are: Eric Muirhead (@StarfleetHIST) and Ian Boley (@IBBoley); our guest is Dr. Nyri Bakkalian (@riversidewings)

Judy and Teresa were okay with episodes 25-28 of “My Fellow Citizens!” (국민여러분!), a KBS2 drama starring Choi SiWon, Lee YooYoung and Kim MinJung. We were very annoyed to find out that "My Fellow Citizens!" is now under the Viki Pass Plus. We hope that it's not hindering your ability to watch the rest of it and listen to our episodes. This week wasn't as strong as last week in terms of meaningful interactions between characters. It did have a lot of physical gags, which were admittedly fun. Minisode 30: Eureka Seven- Lelouch of the Rebellion

It's the Johnny Young Bosch show! That is if you don't include my first impression of Eureka Seven Ao, because Renton hasn't popped up on that show yet. So for this overly long minisode (sorry my bad) I apparently choose two shows that needed a lot of explanation so I apologize for the length of the show but I believe this is up to par in terms of quality of the previous minisodes. Well I guess that is just my own opinion, anyways I review Eureka Seven, Eureka Seven: Good Night, Sleep Tight, Young Lovers, and Eureka Seven Ao. After those reviews I decided to also review Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. If you have not seen either of these shows I highly recommend picking one. If you are concerned with violence Code Geass tends to have more. But Eureka Seven also has it's graphic parts, one scene comes to mind when I mention that. Well that's all of the show in a nutshell hope you enjoy it! Opening Song- Days by Flow Closing Song- Colors by Flow

This is a mecha show. No, really! We thought we’d do something special for our 50th episode*. But I doubt anyone has ever heard of the Sunrise show we decided to talk about. It’s an extremely unknown show called Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. I mean it’s not like  it wasn’t the new cock of the walk or anything as anime goes. But we talked about it anyway! Special Bonus Guest Star Buy Her Book: K. E. Ireland totally showed up for this episode. She has this book thing called Playing The Hero that you can buy and read about the universe it’s set in and more at her website known only as the Natan Fleet Show. Totally NOT the Nathan Fleet Show, nope. Spoiler Warning! Spoilers happen. We tried to keep them away in the first half, but some still slipped out anyway. You have been warned! OSMnotes We may never know what lies underneath his mask... Unless you see him besides during Halloween. *(Actually, we had no clue that this is the 50th episode until a few days after we recorded it.) So there are all sorts of ways you can buy this show! Therefore I’m not going to be posting any links this time! I’m sure you people will know how to find it. And you may have noticed that Anime Expo totally happened more than a week ago. In fact, by now both Otakon and Comic Con has happened! Hopefully we can get to that stuff next week. But for this week we talked about Otakon and we stole many a news story from our buddy Niko. You should also check out his blog, Nikoscream. It is a blog that, unlike mine, is actually updated. On a regular basis. It’s a crazy idea, that. Crazy. Playing the Hero, by K.E.Ireland. Check it out at The Natan Fleet Show. Do it. You should also check out our current contest, now running until the end of August! Just send us an email at osmcast@gmail.com and tell us what books you think are pretty awesome. We’ll try our best to get a hold of them and check them out. If deemed awesome, nay, OSM enough… We’ll probably get to a podcast about it! However, no Twilight ladies. That stuff gets enough traction as it is. Also no Anita Blake stuff after book 4. The prize for two lucky email senders will be signed copies of Playing the Hero, by K.E.Ireland! You can check out more at The Natan Fleet Show.

Podcast manga review of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion volume 1. Manga by Majiko! Original Story by Ichirou Ohkouchi and Goro Taniguchi. Character Designs by Clamp. Translated by Satsuki Yamashita. Originally published in Japan by Kadokawa Shoten. Published in US by Bandai Entertainment, $9.99, Rated 13+. In the year 2010, war broke out between Japan and the Holy Empire of Britannia. Within a month, Japan had been defeated and absorbed into the Empire. In fact, it is not even recognized as a country anymore. It has been renamed Area 11, and its inhabitants are now called 11s. The Britannians move into nice settlements while the 11s are herded into crappy ghettoes. While we haven't mentioned the word genocide yet,the Britannians seem on the brink of committing such an act. Even as the Empire is tightening its grip, some 11s are trying to fight back, even though they are labeled as terrorists. Ironically enough, even some Brittanians have taken up arms against their own country because of its treatment of Japan. Lelouch Lamperouge, a Britannian, has sworn to bring down the Empire, even though he is the secret heir to its throne. Suzaku, his childhood friend, and also an 11, has joined the Imperial military to bring about a change from within. Both their lives will be changed by the arrival of a mysterious girl with the power to grant Lelouch's wish. My Grade: A
