But there is another conflicting goal that men and women have that is hard to detect.  In this episode you will hear what this conflicting goal is, that you would likely never guess. From all the sessions we do, as well as having hosted our Couples Workshop, this is an underlying subconscious goal that is more pervasive than you realize. In this episode of The Secure Love Podcast, Drew confronts his deep-seated feelings of shame, tracing their roots back to childhood experiences, including a pivotal moment at a baseball game when his father left him. This incident instilled a belief of inadequacy that resurfaces in his present-day struggles, particularly regarding anxiety about new work conditions. Drew expresses fears of needing to "reprove" himself, which amplifies his feelings of failure and shame. Under Julie's guidance, Drew begins to articulate these emotions and recognizes the importance of being vulnerable with Melissa, despite his tendency to avoid such discussions. This session marks a significant milestone in their therapy journey, as Julie notes that it may be the last deep dive into Drew's shame, indicating his progress in being fully present with his struggles. The couple's evolving dynamic highlights the shift from avoidance to emotional connection, setting the stage for a more secure relationship. Is This a ME Thing or a WE Thing? Distinguishing Personal Growth from Relationship Growth: Episode 359

When there is tension or an upset in your marriage, it's easy to point the finger at your partner as the source of the discomfort. But this often leads to further conflict. It also does not address this critical aspect of being in a marriage for a long time… that growth is a part of it! The common question for those that see these events as places to grow is “well, is this a me thing, a you thing, or a we thing”!  Today's episode is more motivational (and aspirational) about growth in your relationship. You will hear how you can quickly distinguish between the necessary individual work that needs to be done as well as the relationship work that needs to be focused on. After listening to this episode you both will feel more grace for each other with the reminder that you are in this to grow and you are in it together!   Relationship Resources: 1) Discover all our online resources here: https://www.meetthefreemans.com/links 2) Join us at the in-person Couples Workshop on Oct 6th, 2024. Too often we move on without any true resolution. This we are talking to Jocelyn Freeman of Meet the Freemans and she walks us through some strategies and ways we can repair and take accountability without resentment. 1. We just had a big argument and are at a stalemate, how do we repair? 2. Our argument got heated, we took a break to cool down, but when we talk about it and try to repair we end up getting into an even bigger argument. How can we stop this cycle? 3. POV: I always feel like I am initiating the repair and taking accountability, but my partner isn't. I am feeling disconnected and frustrated which is leaving me to feel resentment. What can I do so I am not the only one saying sorry? 4. How can I get past the self-righteous mentality in arguments? Can you count on each other completely? Not with just the BIG things, but also with the small daily things in your life? Building and living a great life with each other is only possible if you can count on, TRUST, each other. When you see the word “trust” it's easy to think of big things around feeling physically safe or being truthful in what you say. But this conversation gets way more into your day-to-day experiences that either lead to doubting each other and losing trust or increasing the reliability and foundational confidence you have no matter what comes up.  Being attracted to each other, feeling connected, being intimate, and having fun together, is only possible if you can COUNT on each other as partners and that you each are operating as people of integrity to these 4 things…   Relationship Resources: It is the last week to attend the in person Couples Workshop with us in Arizona on May 26th. “Disciplines and commitments. Without those men are just wandering around aimlessly.”“There seems to be a daily choice on which direction to go, as opposed to young men making a commitment to ‘this is what I'm going to do and this is how I'm going to get there'.”Since the 1960's, the world has experienced a dramatic change. It started mainly in the United States but has since spread throughout the world. It can be described in many ways but for the sake of this podcast, we'll say it's been a movement away from traditions and traditional culture. But our traditions weren't simply human constructs for the sake of controlling people. They're reflections of human nature and even nature itself, guided by true faith. As this movement away from traditions reaches the extreme and the many social issues we face prove more and more that we're heading in the wrong direction, it gets easier to recognize the value and need for the wisdom of our traditions. One of the easiest ways we can carry our traditions forward is to connect with our elders.Steve Richmond is an expert in men, masculinity and how to tap into their masculinity. At 62, he found his purpose in coaching men and women to better their lives, relationships and experience greater business success and freedom. Today, Richmond advises the need for men, especially those under 50 to be humble and seek out mentors at least 20 years your senior to learn from their experiences. The interview revolves around the relentless denigration of elder wisdom in modern society and the dangers posed by uninformed individuals, particularly young men, offering misguided advice. Richmond explains the invaluable life experience rooted in traditional culture and urges younger generations to be humble and engage in meaningful conversation with their elders. Extending to the impact of the feminazi movement, the role of fathers in homes, and the essential need for discipline, commitment, and purpose in a man's life. For more information and updates, visit Steve Richmond's website at SteveRichmond.ca or TheRelationshipWorkout.com.Check out the upcoming Couples Workshop in January called "The Turning Point" in 3 online sessions facilitated by Steve Richmond and Marie Tindall. You're invited to come to a Sovereign Circle meeting to experience it for yourself. Today, Carol the Coach is interviewing Sherri Courtney and Laura Fisher who offers couples a solution that bridges the gap between the discovery of betrayal and couples counseling. Sherri and Laura have integrated the principles from Help Her Heal, Unleashing Your Power and Help Them Heal into their Help Them Heal for Couples Signature Program, which offers a comprehensive Early Recovery Couples Empathy Model (ERCEM) based approach to healing a relationship when trust has been shattered through sexual betrayal.  They will be offering a Help Them Heal for Couples Workshop in January that will introduce couples to the ERCEM model and help them learn how to progress together through the 3 stages of partner betrayal: Safety and Stabilization; Anger, Grief and Mourning; and Post Traumatic Growth. Men, there is something you don't understand about your female partners… Being completely honest here, this is something that women might forget in the moment as well. When women don't understand this about themselves then they don't communicate in the best way or request what it is they need so that it can be received by their male partners. Men, without understanding this need that women have, you will easily invalidate them and easily escalate the conversation into a triggering conflict. In this episode you will (both) understand this need that women have and be able to communicate about it in a healthy way that brings you into more harmony individually and as a couple.    Resources For Your Relationship: Sign-up for a 2-on-2 Relationship Breakthrough Session here For those that live in and around Arizona, this is your last opportunity for the in person Couples Workshop event on Sunday Oct 9th. Women, there is something you don't understand about your male partners… Being completely honest here, this is something most men don't even understand about themselves! When men don't understand this about themselves then they cannot even communicate or request what it is they need and default to shutting down, being silent, or even leaving the physical space without so much as a word about what is happening.  Women, without understanding this need that men have, you will take it personally and do the opposite actions that are needed to help; pushing your male partner further away or shutting down even more. I'm like, you know, it would be interesting to discuss, cause I have some thoughts front of mind, but I'd love to get both of your views on it is, is just the dynamic of insecurity as it relates to trauma. And, um, you know, so I'm on social media. I, I make a lot of like Instagram and Tik TOK videos. I have a popular podcast. And so I'm kind of like almost in this like pop psychology field, even though maybe I spend most of my time reading. I don't know. The academic journals and the literature on different interventions. So it's confusing. Cause people are like, well, what psychology books would you recommend? And I'm like, you wouldn't like any of this stuff, I'm reading it. Like, I don't know. All the stuff I've read is like out a way in the weeds....

If you think about it, when you find yourself in a place like this, is it likely you can easily find your way out if you don't even know what got you here? Likely not!  But this is not just you, arguments have different layers and if you are unclear, like even about what your desired outcome is, how can you expect to be anything but confused and ineffective?!  That's why in today's episode you are going to hear our takeaways from the book “Thank you for arguing” and how we even used it to understand more about an argument we had (yes it's true we have arguments ourselves!). As you will hear though, all relationships have arguments but there is one key that leads to a healthy relationship, or ones that eventually end!  On top of that you are going to hear the 3 sources of arguments as well as the 3 methods of arguments so that you can better navigate arguments in your own relationship and bring them to a win-win resolution to be more connected and understanding of each other.    Resources For Your Relationship: Watch our FREE WebClass on: The 5 Steps to Fully Repair After an Argument So You Reconnect in Minutes (Instead of Hours, Days, Weeks). Welcome to episode 7 of Women's Circle! Thank you for joining us this week, however you found us, we are so excited to have you here. Today is a very special interview because I am talking navigating or rather revolutionising your intimate relationships with Francis Borg, Imago Relationships Therapist. I was fortunate enough to attend a weekend workshop with Francis and now better understand what we carry into our relationships subconsciously and how that all comes up for healing as we progress. As a single parent, you might wonder why this is relevant for me but I can absolutely advocate that the tools and awareness I gained from this workshop have helped me process my past behaviours in relationships and how to be aware of them as I move forward. Namely the fact that we unconsciously choose a partner that reflects one of our early caregivers to complete childhood…process that for a minute…I highly recommend this for ALL couples at all stages of love and you can find Francis' workshop details in the show notes. We will be discussing: -       What is IMAGO Relationship Therapy-       Early attachment wounds-       How Francis found the work she now does-       Self-awareness around childhood patterning-       Communicating needs over ‘getting him to do what I want'-       Unconsciously choosing a partner to complete childhood (what!?)-       Chemistry around ‘being in love' linked to early caregivers-       The ‘Power Struggle' phase - the make or break in a relationship-       Maximiser and Minimiser dynamics in a relationship-       Communicating using IMAGO dialogue-       Non-Verbal Communication-       Seeing our partner's reality as their truth-       Entering the relationship consciously-       Counselling as good practice and maintenance not a sign of relationship failure-       Healing systemic cycles of destructive relationships through counselling-       Closing exists to the relationship in order to show up for each otherWelcoming you to the space.Love, CarlieFounder, Mumma Got Skillswww.mummagotskills.com.auInstagram: @mummagotskillsFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/mummagotskills Resources and links:Couples Workshop with Francis Borghttps://brisbanenorthcounselling.com.au/couples-workshops2/Work with Francis Borghttps://brisbanenorthcounselling.com.au/ Getting The Love You Want (A guide for couples), Harville Hendrix and Hellen LaKelly Hunt(Stages of Development are within this book)https://www.booktopia.com.au/getting-the-love-you-want-revised-edition-harville-hendrix/book/9781471193521.html?source=pla&gclid=CjwKCAjwn8SLBhAyEiwAHNTJbZN8ggWSXKsXNEwniPL8irASLjCIrc7f_LgX3U6EBqDKB5nfyyLGphoCVrwQAvD_BwE

Trust can be broken or weakened by both the big things and the build up of many smaller broken promises. Trust is such a foundational aspect of a relationship that without it, it's harder to have respect, love, and passion for your partner.  In this episode we go deeper into rebuilding trust, whether you are the partner that doesn't trust, or if you realize that you are the one that has contributed to the decline of trust. We were asked to take this topic deeper from a listener of the podcast that emailed us, because she was experiencing unreliability on the side of her partner. (We so appreciate you for requesting topics to cover!) Today you will hear about the small things that lead a partner to not “count on” the other, what the real source is of broken promises, and 3 steps to take to rebuild trust as a team.   Resources For Your Relationship: If you're in or near Arizona, attend The Couples Workshop on September 26th, 2021.   If outside AZ, you can sign-up for a 2-on-2 Relationship Breakthrough Session here   About Us: We're The Freemans, your go-to couple for authentic and actionable relationship advice.
