The temptation to harden our hearts and join the chorus of polarizing voices is difficult to resist. However, it doesn't matter what side of a conflict we identify with or the opinions we hold. Toxic certainty, hatred and fear are contagious and the real enemies of peace. Spiritual warriorship has existed in eastern and western traditions for thousands of years to show the way of bravery. In times of crisis the spiritual warrior rises above aggression and looks within to transform a fearful mind in the cradle of compassion. In this episode of Awake In Relationship I speak with returning guest Susan Gillis Chapman, Buddhist teacher and author of The 5 Keys of Mindful Communication and a new book, Which Way Is Up?: Finding Heart in the Hardest of Times, due to be published in June 2024. In this conversation we discuss the transformative power of compassion and qualities of a modern spiritual warrior living in times of great change and fear. One of the biggest keys to healthy communication is being mindful of your response. A conversation can really go two complete opposite ways based on whether people are either reacting or responding. Today we're going to be speaking about the difference between the two and why it is so important to respond from a place of higher awareness rather than react from past programmings. If you're looking to elevate the productivity of your conversations and ability maturely express yourself, this epi is for you

Our episode today is being published around the holiday season. I couldn't imagine a better gift than this: the gift of mindful communication, or skillful communication. We all know that communication is a fundamental part of human interaction and plays a crucial role in shaping our relationships and human experiences. I wish topics like effective communication and emotional regulation were taught in a more intentional way at home and school. There is a wealth of power hidden in the simple-yet-challenging act of bringing awareness to the language we use in our lives. And by that I mean not just the world we live in, but also the world within us. There is so much to be discovered when we practice bringing awareness to our thoughts and emotions and learning how to express ourselves in a skillful and helpful way. Our interview today is with Mudita Nisker and Dan Clurman, the authors of "Let's Talk: An Essential Guide to Skillful Communication.” In our discussion, we have the opportunity to explore their insights and perspectives on this important subject. Their book offers practical guidance and strategies for improving communication skills and cultivating deeper connections with others.Mudita Nisker is a licensed marriage family therapist (LMFT), coach, and trainer. A strong advocate of lifelong learning, she's led women's communication-training groups for over thirty-five years. Dan Clurman is a coach, trainer, and professor. Over the past thirty years, he has provided communication training and coaching to individuals and organizations in the private, public, government, and nonprofit sectors. Let's Talk offers invaluable guidance for anyone looking to improve their communication skills and relationships. Whether you are a parent, lover, teacher, or leader, you can benefit greatly from the kindly guidance provided in this book. By reading and applying the strategies outlined in "Let's Talk," you can improve your communication with everyone in your life and find yourself getting into fewer conflicts. And when conflicts do arise, you will be better equipped to navigate them with more skill and grace.Since this interview with Dan and Mudita, I have purchased multiple copies of their book and I even started a little book club with my wife and three young boys. Not just for me and my learning, but also for them and preparing them for their lives. I don't want them to be challenged in the same way that I was. I hope to give them the gifts of self awareness, emotional literacy, self regulation, and effective communication. And I couldn't think of a better book to use as our guide to transform the way we relate to ourselves and others — one conversation at a time.Learn more at letstalkmethod.com--We would love to hear from you! - What would you like to know about mindfulness or how it can help you with the issues you are facing? The holidays are almost here and that means a lot of get-togethers and family time. So I thought it might be helpful to explore mindful communication on this week's episode of The Transforming Anxiety Podcast . Mindful communication pulls in, yup, elements of mindfulness and gives us a framework to think about how we're communicating. Because: communication is so ordinary, yet so powerful. What we say matters. We're going to explore some different elements of mindful communication in this episode, namely: Show up and be present Lead with curiosity and kindness Remember what matters Join me this week to zoom in on communication and consider how this could impact your experience of anxiety, stress, and overwhelm...and how practicing here could transform all of that for the better this holiday season. Dear Colleagues:Some of you political junkies out there reading this might be a little bleary-eyed having stayed up late to watch the midterm election results come in. You may also have been clutching some cushions fearing the worst in terms of a crushing Republican red wave. But at time of writing it hasn't happened. Everything is still up for grabs, when it shouldn't be after nearly a billion dollars was poured into Republican campaigns. Today's episode of the The Joyful Attorney Podcast is a little different. It's off-the-cuff, from the heart and recorded when we still don't know the full story of Tuesday night. To be honest, it may not be everyone's cup of tea, to borrow a wonderful English expression. But it's about keeping a mindset of hope, positivity and abundance when everything looks doomed. It's also a reflection on how politics is always personal. The two cannot be disconnected. Working on our mindsets is the core of Joyful on Demand, my unique, group-coaching program for legal professionals. Not to mention access to free classes such as the one on Mindful Communication for Lawyers I am doing today, oh, and a book club. Everyone loves a book club. https://www.thejoyfulattorney.com/joyfulondemandFor now, stay hopeful and stay joyful. Laura

In addition, he developed and taught classes on-site for organizations like Citibank, Ford, State Farm, Progressive, and many other Fortune 500 companies. Now he focuses on helping professionals learn the power of conscious, mindful communication. In all of his work, he's concluded the key skill any person can study to improve their professional and personal lives - is mindful communication. He says "the limits of what we can achieve personally, professionally, and even as a people - is bounded by our ability to effectively communicate".Brett has developed a series of practices and lessons, based on science, and proven in practice to help people not only be more effective in their professional and personal lives, but be profoundly more connected, engaged, and satisfied. In this episode, Adam and Brett discuss:What mindful communication is and how to be a mindful communicatorHow to be mindful in virtual meetingsDealing with the people that trigger us in the workplaceMoving through the transitions in your lifeCommunicating better with your kids Key Takeaways:Pay attention not only to what people say, but also to the emotions they display, who they are in their lives, and their struggles. This enables us to relate to people authentically and deeply, even in the most basic of ways.Listening to people in virtual meetings should be done with personhood in mind, not just as a digital experience. It is more powerful to connect with them if you are sensitive and listen carefully. There will always be coworkers who irritate us or give us bad vibes at work, but it's all about being present and mindful when dealing with these people. You can choose to be reactive or defensive. You simply need to be present with whatever is going on in your life and accept that it happened. Say YES to your experiences. Mindfulness is all about freedom, it's about having options in moments where you normally don't.Be present with your children while remaining mindful on purpose. When you are present with someone, it changes the way you communicate with them significantly and elevates your experience of life. "If we mindfully communicate with each other, we will be able to see other people in their humanity, even if they're different from you. It changes the conversation in ways that really matter. Also, you find so much more value in the relationships that you do have. In that way, regardless of what's going on in your world, you have a better experience of life.." — Brett Hill Connect with Brett Hill:Website: https://www.languageofmindfulness.com/ (Company)https://thefutureismindful.com (Company)LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mindfulguyTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/bretthillPodcast: The Language of MindfulnessOrganizational Mindfulness Podcast Connect With Adam Weber:Website: https://meditationnotmedicine.com/about/Email: adam@meditationnotmedicine.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/easytomeditate Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/meditationnotmedicine/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPnbji9rDrCfxhY0W8sHL9ABook: Meditation Not Medicine Audio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions. You're the expert. Perhaps you've heard of mindfulness, but have you heard of mindful communication? In this first episode we explore the definition of mindfulness and why mindful communication is essential for both our professional and personal lives. More importantly, we talk about how you can began to identify unconscious patterns by taking a closer look at something you do every day.
Sharon Strand Ellison, M.S. and Ami Atkinson Combs, B.C.C. are dedicated to the belief that we can change the way we communicate with with simple, mindful shifts, and a non-defensive power approach. Sharon first discusses how she came to see the power struggle as an illness, and backs up the scientific research that it is also one of our top addictions. She and Ami explain how non-defensive power can help us create a neutral space and welcome a conversation rather than feeling like we have to make someone else see our point of view to “win”. Sharon and Ami go further into detail about surrender, creating honest limits rather than harsh boundaries, and how we can build security and trust with our tone and inflection. Dr. Carly also talks with Sharon about her book, Taking the War Out of Our Words and Ami's co-authored audiobook, Taking Power Struggle Out of Parenting.
