Imagine hearing loud gunfire in your home or school all day long. A community in Cranston, Rhode Island has struggled with this issue for the past few years, and they're protesting against it.  Their local police department practices at an outdoor shooting range across the street from a residential neighborhood and a high school. The target practice at that range has increased up to 12 hours per day. Longtime residents are pushing back and asking the department to relocate or to enclose the gun range. In this episode, we hear from two residents, a psychiatrist, and a neuropsychologist, who discuss the impact on their Cranston neighborhood and the effects of gunfire noise on humans.

The Tuskegee Airmen were a group of primarily black military pilots (fighter and bomber) and airmen who fought in WW2. Men who fought for a country that, sadly, didn't know much about them at the time, and had to fight for recognition at every turn because of racism. And as Victor approaches his 100th birthday on May 21st, all this man wants is birthday cards from people all over the country. So, takes some time today and make a true American hero's day. On New Year’s Eve 1843 in Cranston Rhode Island, wealthy Yankee Mill Owner Amasa Sprague was put upon as he walked home and brutally murdered. Irish immigrant, John Gordon was arrested, tried and convicted in arguably a rather biased trial. On Valentine’s Day 1845, Gordon was executed by hanging. He became the last Rhode Islander to be put to death. His last words: “I hope all good Christians pray for me.” Paul F. Caranci, author of the book, “The Hanging and Redemption of John Gordon” joins me here on Murder Most Foul.
