She writes for their Journal too:https://www.collabjournal.orghttps://www.instagram.com/collabpma/ Show Intro:For 1000s of years we have painted on cave walls, carved statues, woven tapestries, molded clay and drawn and painted our human experience. Images have depicted the sacred and the profane. Images created by the hand of the artist are like making magic - from nothing, something. And that ‘something' tells a story. It tells the story of who we are as individuals and a part of a community, culture a collective with shared vision. Creating is the truest expression of who we are because when we make art, we truly put ourselves into it. Our life energy changes a lump of clay into a teapot and blank canvas into a masterpiece. Color, form, geometry, texture, light – these are the base element of the image. In the context of contemporary image making, almost everyone with a smartphone becomes and image capturer. Recording the moments of a life that races by. It seems that more now than ever the image is the language we use to share our life stories. The ‘Instagramable moment' has become a requirement in creating places. The image of that moment is the memory residue of something that mattered. A moment to express oneself, to say to the world that I mattered because I was there. The egocentrism of the image changed in the Renaissance with the invention of perspective. Until that time, images were quite two dimensional. The perspective view positioned the observer of the scene at the center - everything was to be viewed form the singular position of the individual. And so, our propensity to take selfies or Instargramable moments as first--person narratives of experience is really only a development along a trajectory of the image in the now digitally enabled visual age.Images are becoming so ubiquitous that some fear the devolution of language in preference for pictures. Is the expression “a picture is worth a 1000 words more true now than ever before.” Will texting replace articulate spoken language or is is as the linguist John Mc Whorter says simply the development of a new language? The design of these images is critical – overlays, filters, re-coloring, cropping, and all of the other image composing tools speak to the nature of design in a visual age. The image can be crafted to delight over dessert or stand as a symbol of dissent.Everything is designed says my guest on this episode of the NXTLVL Experience Design podcast. And when we listen to her talk about design we find that it is taking on new meaning and expression in the visual age.Royce Epstein is a veteran materials and product specialist for interior design and architecture who spent two decades working in A&D firms before working in product design and development.Royce is an art history major who has focused her attuned creative skills as a Trend hunter, Design strategist, writer, lecturer, teacher, juror, and thinker into always putting design in context. She is a design activist, cares deeply about social causes and is the A&D Design Director for the Mohawk Group a company that creates some of the best flooring solutions on the planet.  About David Kepron:LinkedIn Profile: linkedin.com/in/david-kepron-9a1582bWebsites:  https://www.davidkepron.com    (personal website)vmsd.com/taxonomy/term/8645  (Blog)Email: david.kepron@NXTLVLexperiencedesign.comTwitter: DavidKepronPersonal Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/davidkepron/NXTLVL Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nxtlvl_experience_design/Bio:David Kepron is a multifaceted creative professional with a deep curiosity to understand ‘why', ‘what's now' and ‘what's next'. The medical and stroke industries can be complicated places. They have arcane jargon and complicated processes. And that's important. The detailed knowledge and industry shorthand helps folks within the field communicate quickly and clearly with each other to provide the best care possible. It's just different from what non-medical folks deal with. But is it really all that different? What I'm finding in my personal experience is that it has a lot more in common with my own field of Adult Learning & Development, sales skills training, and brand evangelism. For example, the corporate training field and the PT, OT, and Speech fields are all focused on helping folks develop or relearn skills and abilities. We're all working to rewire the brain so the learner/patient can do things they couldn't do before. The therapists rely more on rote memory and process repetition than the corporate trainers due, but it seems like there's an opportunity to study how best practices in each field can help the other. The ADDIE model is the traditional way instructional designers build learning content. It also applies to the way medical teams put together treatment plans for rehab. A -- Analyze the opportunity. What are we working with? What do we want to accomplish? What are the current capabilities of the learner/patient? What resources/limitations do we have to work with? How much time do we have? D -- Design the program. Based on the analysis, what sort of program is most appropriate? When and where will we deliver it? What tools will be part of it? What content will we include? D -- Develop the content/plan. Assemble the content and build the list of exercises and procedures. Who does what when? Build out the details of the plan I -- Implement the plan. Execute the training or treatment plan. E -- Evaluate the results. Did we achieve the results we set out to achieve? Did the different elements work the way we wanted them to? What did the learner/patient think? What worked well and what didn't work well? What should we do differently in the future? It's not just the training model that overlaps with the medical field. It's also the sales model. My OT the other day talked about "affordances." An affordance is what something does for you. For example a chair might be made from metal or vinyl and that could be the physical description. That's not the important part, though. What really matters is what the chair affords you the opportunity to do -- to sit and rest. I had never heard that term before, but in sales we talk about the same concept -- benefits. When selling computers, I teach people not to focus the the processor and RAM. That stuff doesn't matter. Focus instead on what that product does for the customer. How does it benefit them? How does it make there life better? How does it help them solve a problem or make their life better? That's the stuff that actually matters. The specs just support that. When it comes to therapy, I don't really care about my finger extensors. What I care about is being able to open my hand and release my grip on command. I don't care about my quads or my hamstrings. I care about being able to get myself someplace quickly, easily, safely, and painlessly. I care about what those muscles afford me the opportunity to do. I care about how they benefit me. Facebook I recently launched a Strokecast page on Facebook. You'll find reposts of these episodes and blog posts there. I'm also publishing Facebook Live videos there for more off the cuff discussion. Check it out here and click the Like button. Here's a sample: https://www.facebook.com/StrokeCast/videos/241473476461024/ Hack of the week One challenge when I'm I'm running errands or getting coffee is that I have only one functional hand, and it's usually holding my cane. If I need to pick something up, where do I put my cane? I picked up a cane clip that I move from cane-to-cane depending on my mood. You can find the one I uses here (affiliate link). It makes it easy to hang my cane on my belt, waist band, or even pocket so I can pick up my coffee at the counter and carry it to my table without dropping my cane in the process. Where do we go from here? How does your experience with the medical industry align with practices in your own career? Let us know in the comments here. If you use a cane, check out cane clip options. I go first, ask questions later, because perfection doesn't exist.     In helping you figure out why you're the best, I want you to be BOLD:     B- Belief unwaveringly in yourself and products/services O- Own only your own reactions L- Lead a deeper movement D- Design an execution plan for the first quarter     Need help? For us it was ladies underwear.  Some of the answers from social media: UK Geocacher I have found two safes. Dr Who enthusiast erects full-size Dalek in his Muddiford garden By NDJDawn  |  Posted: March 05, 2014 Story from The North Devon Journal A full-scale Dalek has appeared outside a cottage in Muddiford, attracting the attention of Dr Who enthusiasts across the county. Phil Stroud, 65, built the Dalek seven years ago as a project with Barnstaple Youth House and as an avid Dr Who fan celebrated the 50th anniversary by putting the character on display. The figure currently looks out onto the road, which has surprised many passers-by and it has even been registered on a geocaching website. "The Dalek has become like the camel statues on the motorway, I suppose it is a bit of landmark now," said Phil. "I built it with the youth house years back; it took a couple of months to build. And when there was a commotion about the Dr Who 50th anniversary over Christmas, I thought this would be the perfect time to put it on show. "I was a bit sneaky when I took the Dalek out of the garage, it was late in the evening and I had to bring the sculpture out in pieces and assemble it in the garden." "I originally put it outside thinking it would just stay for a few weeks. Now it has drawn so much attention, I suppose I'm stuck with it." Phil has been sculpting and creating props throughout his life and career, following his study of 3-D Design at the Guildford School of Art, he went on to create work for artist David Mach and even created a sculpture for the Imperial War Museum. The Dalek figure is functional and has been used for fundraising events in Devon with the Barnstaple Youth House, and it was even entered into a dancing competition. "I took the Dalek to a Dr Who themed dancing competition in Torquay a while back too and won a prize," said Phil. "We had the theme music and people saying 'exterminate', it was brilliant." "So many people have stopped by the house and asked me about it, one man even offered to buy it; of course I told him it wasn't for sale. But then he showed me a photo of one he was building himself which is great." "I will keep the Dalek in front of my house now for as long as I can." Treasure hunt for the Wolds project Story from The Louth Leader The community heritage project Down Your Wold is appealing for volunteers to help lay heritage related geocaches at various locations throughout the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Geocaching is known as a modern day treasure hunt where participants use their smart phone’s GPS system to navigate through clues to find a hidden container. Down Your Wold project officer, Sam Phillips, said: “The training sessions are open to people who would like to lay a geocache in their village or favourite Wolds walk. “It is hoped that the hidden treasure will encourage people to enjoy the countryside, explore our wonderful Wolds villages and learn more about the fascinating heritage of our local landscape.” Anyone wanting to be involved or interested to learn more is invited to attend one of four training sessions planned this April. The two hour training session will be provided by Mike Eckersley, Chairman of Market Rasen Walkers are Welcome. The session will include an introduction for beginners followed by an opportunity for volunteers to sign up to a location and become part of this exciting initiative. The training sessions will take place on the following dates; volunteers only need to attend one session - Wednesday April 9 Afternoon session in Walesby Village Hall at 1.30pm. Evening session in Nettleton Village Hall at 6.30pm. Friday April 25 Afternoon session in the Orchard Gallery at Gunby Hall and Gardens at 1.30pm. Evening Session in Hemingby Village Hall at 6.30pm. Parking is available at all venues and refreshments will be provided. For more information on Down Your Wold please visit www.down-your-wold.co.uk or call 01507 609740. Video of the week... Cool Electronic Geocache - Geocachespoilers. http://youtu.be/h_rDId45aLc Limiting Cache Owner Hides Debate... For: Can help reduction of saturation in an area - allowing more opportunity for others Someone else may have an idea that works better in an area that has been monopolised by one person May make maintenance easier -  less caches to maintain could make it quicker and easier to do so It may help improve quality - why waste your limited hides on bad caches/locations If the limit is reached and the CO want's to put another cache out, then they archive one they already have out.  This releases an area for someone else.  It helps refresh areas for hunters. For every person who leaves the game because of such a rule, more will fill the void Against: People should be allowed to hide as many as they want - its their time, money and effort There are always ways around these things - multiple accounts, etc.  So, whats the point? If one listing site imposes this rule, then people will move to another that doesn't If its just about quality - finders can limit their search criteria (by favourite points for example) Without people willing to hide caches, there is no game - they should be encouraged, not discouraged Where is the evidence for reduced quality/maintenance resulting from the number of hides a CO has? Feedback on this: Tony Liddell Difficult one. I think not, provided you're prepared to keep up the maintenance Mark Pickard Agree with Tony Liddell with out co's the game would die! It amazes me the number of ppl with a 1000+ finds that don't own a single cache, surely it can't be a case of take take take all the time? But that's a different topic Karl Brydon Quality and maintenance is more important - no limit on good, well paced, interesting and maintained caches. All other caches should be limited to none Mark Pickard But then on the subject of maintenence, how difficult is it to carry a few spare logs around with you? I'm amazed that a large proportion of folk don't, I know for a fact I have a full log in 1 of my caches but a certain thing called real life has meant I haven't been able to get to it to replace it yet, and I appreciate it when they do get swapped for me as it gives me a little more time to go caching myself UKGeocacher Yes. Approx 10% of your total finds. This ensures that you know what makes a quality hide. Also 2 many maint becomes a problem Sarah Clark: I don't think there should be a limit but I do think COs need to be responsible. If you can't maintain what you have then you shouldn't be making new hides. the Monkey King: There shouldn't be a limit, otherwise there wouldn't be any more caches to find. On the other hand, if a CO is hiding really bad caches, then there should be a limit so as to improve the caches being hidden. More caches, better caches. Next Week... The first Oh Beep! pub quiz...
