Here's what you'll hear:Early Life in the Great Depression:Born in 1933, one of 11 children, raised on a farm during some of the toughest years in American history.Learned responsibility at just 4 years old, tending to cows, pigs, and the family farm.A Legendary Work Ethic:Became known across the Northwest as one of the best John Deere mechanics, always solving problems for farmers in needWorked grueling hours—usually at least 120 hours in two weeks—yet never complained and always put others' needs first.Family and Community Leadership:A devoted husband and father, he balanced full-time farm work with his job at Brown Motors.He Took on community roles, becoming the president of the local JC's, the snowdrifters, bring the first groomer to the county and always giving back to those around him.Overcoming a Terminal Diagnosis:At 76, diagnosed with prostate cancer and given just two years to live. ................................. FULL TRANSCRIPT ................................. Hi, I'm Pascale Gibon your host. Welcome to episode 291 of the Everyday Life Balance Show. Thank you for tuning in. This is Part 2 of “Discover 7 Tips To Spring Clean Your Body To Boost Your Health And Well-Being” How are you getting on with your spring cleaning this year? In Part 1 of this series, episode 290, you discovered the first four habits to spring clean your body and here is a recap: Spring clean your body - habit #1 is to drink plenty of water. Habit #2 is to eat whole foods Habit #3 is to avoid caffeine and alcohol And lastly, habit #4 is to exercise regularly. In this episode, you will discover the remaining three habits to spring clean your body so that you boost your health and well-being. Spring clean your body - habit #5: Get enough sleep Sleep is crucial for your body to regenerate and heal. Aim to get at least seven to eight hours of quality sleep per night to allow your body to rest and recharge. You might be ok with six hours of quality sleep and still feel refreshed. Listen to your body. Long-term sleep deprivation leads to burnout.  I suggest improving your before-bedtime habits. Here are some helpful and easy-to-do tips: 1.  Avoid caffeine and other stimulant consumption close to bedtime because they can interfere with sleep. This recommendation works for me. Consuming chocolate before going to bed can disrupt my sleep. Avoid or limit the intake of caffeinated beverages like coffee, tea, energy drinks and certain medications, especially within a few hours before bed. 2.  Avoid heavy meals and late-night eating: eating a large, heavy meal or snacking excessively close to bedtime can cause discomfort and digestive issues that may disrupt sleep. Try to have your evening meal at least a few hours before bed and avoid heavy or spicy foods that may cause indigestion. I understand this is not always possible, so if you generally finish work late, go for a substantial meal at lunchtime and a lighter meal or snack in the evening when you get home and feel hungry. 3.  Limit electronic device usage: the blue light emitted by electronic devices like smartphones, tablets, and computers can suppress the production of melatonin, a hormone that helps regulate sleep. It's best to avoid electronic device usage for at least an hour before bed. Consider using apps or settings that reduce blue light or wearing blue-light-blocking glasses if you need to use devices closer to bedtime. 4.  Increase your wind-down routine: after a long working day or day of activities, engaging in stimulating or stressful activities just before bed can make it difficult to unwind and fall asleep. Establish a wind-down routine that includes calming activities like reading a book, taking a warm bath, practising relaxation techniques, listening to soothing music, meditating or praying. Consistency matters to signal your body that it is time to relax and prepare for sleep. 5.  Introduce a regular sleep schedule: inconsistent sleep patterns, such as going to bed and waking up at different times each day, can disrupt your body's internal clock and make it harder to fall asleep and wake up refreshed. Aim for a consistent sleep schedule by going to bed and waking up at the same time every day, even on weekends. 6.  Introduce physical activity: a sedentary lifestyle can contribute to poor sleep quality. Regular exercise during the day can help promote better sleep at night. However, your best option is to avoid vigorous exercise too close to bedtime, as it may energize you and make it harder to fall asleep. Besides stretching after a long working day sitting at your desk, for example, releases the body of tension like back, shoulder and neck pain and promotes better quality sleep. 7.  Stress and worry: excessive stress, anxiety, or worry can interfere with relaxation and falling asleep. Practice stress management techniques such as mindfulness, deep breathing exercises, or journaling before bed to help calm your mind and promote a night of more restful sleep. By establishing healthy bedtime routines and creating a relaxing sleep environment, you can improve the chances of getting a good night's sleep and waking up feeling refreshed. It is worth it! Spring clean your body - habit #6: Practise mindfulness Mental and emotional toxins can also affect your health. Practising Mindfulness, meditation, or deep breathing exercises can help decrease stress levels and improve mental clarity. During an emotional "spring clean," deep breathing exercises can help promote relaxation, reduce stress, and support emotional well-being. Here is an example of a deep breathing technique you can try: Diaphragmatic breathing (or belly breathing): Find a comfortable seated position or lie down on your back. Place one hand on your abdomen and the other on your chest. Take a slow, deep breath in through your nose, allowing your abdomen to rise while keeping your chest relatively still. Exhale slowly through your mouth, letting your abdomen fall as you release the breath. Focus on breathing deeply and fully, allowing the breath to naturally fill your lungs and abdomen. And lastly, Spring clean your body - habit #7: Try a detox programme There are several detox programs available that can help jump-start your spring cleaning process. However, it is essential to choose a program that is safe and effective. I recommend you seek advice from a professional consultant before beginning any detox program. Parker is a Christian sex author, speaker, blogger, and podcaster. Her ministry, Hot, Holy & Humorous, focuses on helping others understand God's design for sexual intimacy in marriage.  J has a personal story of redemption in the area of sexuality, holds a master's degree in counseling, and lives in Texas with her fabulous but oh-so logical husband, fondly nicknamed "Spock."  Here's a glimpse of our conversation: J. Parker, welcome to Exploring the Seasons of Life podcast.  2:51 Professionally, because I'm talking a lot of times to wives and or couples, about sexual intimacy and marriage, there are seasons for that in your marriage. So, this idea that you get married, and then you're just gonna have a sex life, and that's the sex life you have for your whole marriage. It's just not true. And the more that we understand that there are ups and downs and sweet spots and challenges and all of that, then the better we're able to weather that and create something really beautiful. 10:01 I would say the hot part to me represents that this is supposed to be something that is pleasurable, that is mutually desired, mutually satisfying. It's supposed to feel good. Sex is supposed to feel good, and supposed to be something you enjoy doing. 13:35 One is, we don't necessarily always have the language for it. Some people grew up with, this isn't talked about at all. And so they don't really know how to talk about it. Other people grew up with a situation of it always being talked about in crass language. And so they know they're not supposed to do that with their spouse, but they don't know what else to do. 16:03 I think that we have to understand that sexual intimacy is not just the sex itself. And I'll say that this is something I was hearing recently, another author on sex, Dr. Juli Slattery  talk about who's excellent. How even talking about sex and getting comfortable talking about sex is something that builds sexual intimacy and makes the experience of being physical together later better.  21:07 The first thing I would say is you can have a conversation and say, hey, it really makes me feel great when you initiate. 25:04 I would say in almost every marriage, somebody's higher drive than the other. But, I guess statistically, it seems like about 20% of couples are fairly well matched, in another 20% to 25% the wife is the higher desire spouse. And in the rest, the husband is higher drive. I mean, they're not perfect statistics, but it's pretty good. I've looked at a lot of research on this. 32:28 I would say in those situations, it's considered a sexless marriage, if you're having sex 10 or fewer times a year. Because you're really not getting the benefits of sexual intimacy in a marriage. And there are really a whole lot of benefits to your relationship, even to your health. #2 I recently participated in an incredible online education series called the Essential Oils Hormone Summit. I learned so many wonderful things and I wanted to share my biggest takeaways with you! The Essential Oil Hormone Summit was lead by the talented and beautiful Dr. Mariza Snyder. She brought in some of the top wellness experts and interviewed them on how to create hormone balance with essential oil rituals, recipes, and powerful lifestyle recommendations. Functional Practitioner and author of six books Newest book: The Essential Oils Hormones Solution which will be available in early 2019 Visit her website here Check out her podcast Essentially You Over 25 of dōTERRA's leaders and wellness experts were interviewed and I wish I could share ALL my notes with you, but instead I will share some of the golden nuggets from this summit and the simple actions you can take TODAY to create more balance in your hormones. #1 The Foundation of Health is Nutrition Food is information for your body, and you want to be sending your body the right information Supplementing your nutrition is important in making sure you're getting everything you need each day The Lifelong Vitality Pack (LLV) was mentioned numerous times. This is one of dōTERRA's most ordered product and I take these supplements daily. You can order them here. Drinking lots of water is also important. Most people are chronically dehydrated which can lead to feeling stiff or achy in the joints. You might also have a mental fog, constipation, chapped lips, dry skin, and more when you're not drinking enough water. TIP: Fill your glass bottle or jar with high quality water and add a drop of Tangerine essential oil, Lemon essential oil, or Grapefruit essential oil for extra limonene to help clear out your system. Once you're done, look back at your “prefect day” and choose one thing you can start implementing in your daily life. Even if it is something similar to what you put on your paper. Display this somewhere where you will see it every day! #3 Reduce Your Toxic Load A lot of household products and skincare or makeup products have loads of toxins, chemicals, and other harmful components that are affecting our health and hormones. Consider switching out these products. I always recommend that once you've finished a product to find a new, cleaner alternative. And quite honestly, I've been making a lot of my own cleaning products since learning more about essential oils. dōterra.com has an excellent DIY section. dōTERRA also has an On Guard cleaning line which is super simple and wonderful for switching over laundry detergent, stain remover, and hand soap in your home.
