As much as it pains Jonah to admit it, Steve was right about the magic of Door County, Wisconsin. After he adequately disparages a few more of Steve's opinions, Jonah cleans up after Tucker Carlson and his crackpot “historian” crony. He discusses the role of intellectual and moral corruption in the legitimization of dishonorable revisionism, negates the Zinn-ification of history, and namedrops some philosophers. Matthew Sitman and Sohrab Ahmari discuss friendship across political divides. Both men have made their careers in political media and have made significant changes in their politics over the course of their lives – in Sohrab's case, very publicly. These changes have affected some friendships and have left others intact. Sohrab and Matt and Susannah discuss the phenomenon of friendship that transcends politics, how difficult that can be, how painful when it doesn't work, but how good when it does. They also discuss the social peculiarities of Left and Right, and challenge Jonathan Haidt's moral foundationalism. They reflect on what Christianity must say to enmity and friendship, and end with an excursus on Dimes Square.
This week we have a four piece for the high holidays. An intro by the boys, then the fellas rap it up for a bit, after that the gang is joined by Sohrab Forouzesh and at the end we have an outro direct from the gentleman. Music: Sebastian Lopez Photo: ANFChicago Video Editing: Nicholas Rohrman

Lately my Spotify playlists center around contemporary folk rock by such musicians as The Paper Kites, Birdtalker, Plains, Ondara, Bonny Light Horseman, and River Whyless. Some of my characters are aspiring musicians, as in "Open Mic," the first story in True Fiction. Playing college sports in India taught me to hang in there when things were going wrong and then to turn them around. I still follow professional tennis and not long ago watched stars such as Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Venus Williams live at the Miami Open. I'm excited about the resurgent Jacksonville Jaguars. The hosts speak with Sohrab Ahmari about how private power crushed American liberty. Sohrab's new book, Tyranny, Inc., is a thoroughly reported look at the way that private economic power, especially the conditions of employment, has taken away workers' abilities to have agency over their own lives. How did we get here, and what can we do about it? Sohrab looks at the history of the last several hundred years, from the enclosure movement on, and looks as well at many stories of contemporary economic tyranny. They discuss the tendency of conservative genealogies of social ills to focus on ideas to the exclusion of material forces, and discuss as well the connections between this book, Sohrab's earlier work on liberalism, and his Catholic faith. They end in discussing the conflict between neoliberalism and the Christian tradition, and Susannah recites a poem about a goose.

On this edition of Parallax Views, Sohrab Ahmari of the online magazine Compact joins the show to discuss his intriguing new book Tyranny Inc.: How Private Power Crushed American Liberty--and What to Do About It. Sohrab is a self-described "man of the Right". As such one may expect that Tyranny Inc. is another addition to the growing cottage industry conservative diatribes about "woke capitalism". That's what makes the book so interesting though. Rather than offering an extended invective against "woke capital", Ahmari opts instead to offer a surprisingly materialist-based critical analysis of neoliberal capitalism and the darkest consequences of it. One could easily mistake it for having been written by a left-wing thinker. Ahmari even cites such figures associated with broadly leftist tendencies such as Marxist economic geographer David Harvey and economist James K. Galbraith. In this conversation we discuss the key points of his book, his hopes for regulation of the corporate power in America going forward (which could be spearheaded by the political odd couple of Elizabeth Warren and JD Vance), capitalism and atomization, regional capital (small business owners) as the power base of the GOP that prevents Republicans from being a truly working class-friendly party, and, in the latter portion of the conversation, Ahmari's laudable, Catholic-driven opposition to the emergent trend of a racist, social darwinist, and eugenicist segment of the right that he calls the "Nietzschean Right".
This week, Emile, Helen, Sohrab, and Micah discuss the viral country song "Rich Men North of Richmond," and what it says about the state of the working class, our political divide, and the country music industry. To kick off the hour, TPUSA Contributor and Host of the podcast, 'Human Events Daily,' Jack Posobiec joins Charlie to reveal the latest intelligence breaking around the former Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe. Next, Jack unpacks everything pouring out of the latest trove of troubling material being leaked from Hunter Biden's personal devices. Also in this hour, founding editor of Compact Magazine and longtime friend of the show, Sohrab Ahmari, joins Charlie to expose a sneaky strategy being employed by vaccine giant Moderna to skyrocket their shots to seemingly overnight success—and how they're trying to make you pay for it all with your tax dollars.
