June Carbone joins Kim Krawiec, student co-host Damon Stefankiewicz, and members of UVA Law's Taboo Trades seminar to discuss “Fatherhood, Family Law, and the Crisis of Boys and Men,” coauthored with Clare Huntington. Carbone argues that the difficulties facing boys and men—particularly those without college degrees—are rooted in economic precarity and policy choices, and that family law can compound these problems by excluding unmarried fathers from the support available to divorcing parents while subjecting lower-income families to punitive child-support and family-regulation systems. The conversation explores the authors' proposal for voluntary, community-based family centers, along with difficult questions about safety, consent, funding, intimate partner violence, mandatory reporting, and how to promote engaged fatherhood without restoring patriarchal authority.About the GuestJune Carbone is the Robina Chair in Law, Science and Technology at the University of Minnesota Law School. An expert in family law, assisted reproduction, property, law and medicine, and bioethics, she writes extensively about marriage, inequality, family structure, and the legal regulation of families.About the HostKimberly D. Krawiec is the Charles O. Gregory Professor of Law and Glynn Family Bicentennial Professor of Law at the University of Virginia School of Law. Her research examines taboo or contested exchanges, including organ donation, reproductive markets, and sex work, as well as the regulation of financial markets and business organizations. She is the host of Taboo Trades.About the Student Co-HostDamon Stefankiewicz is a second-year student at the University of Virginia School of Law and the student co-host of this episode.Paper DiscussedJune Carbone and Clare Huntington, “Fatherhood, Family Law, and the Crisis of Boys and Men,” 124 Columbia Law Review 2153 (2024).Clare Huntington, the paper's coauthor, is the Barbara Aronstein Black Professor of Law at Columbia Law School. On This Episode:-Review of Bloodsucking Freaks (1976). The one movie that Lloyd Kaufman is ashamed of in the Troma library. Not here on Skeleton Factory. We love the sleazy gore-filled fun of Bloodsucking Freaks!!-Review of Deadbeat At Dawn (1988). Deadbeat at Dawn is the greatest low budget movie of all time. NOT Paranormal Activity. NOT Obsession. NOT Clerks. One of the greatest action-packed splatter-revenge stories ever committed to film. -Also, movie trivia.Follow Skeleton Factory...Instagram: skeleton_factoryPatreon: patreon.com/skeletonfactory

John is joined by Kevin Parker, aka Tame Impala, to talk about how he wrote, recorded and produced the album ‘Deadbeat'. Kevin launched the electronic and psychedelic rock-influenced Tame Impala in 2007 as a home recording project. Throughout the 2010s, Tame Impala became a huge critical and commercial success, winning two Grammys and selling out shows worldwide. Kevin has collaborated with numerous other artists including Justice, Gorillaz and Dua Lipa, and is regularly cited as one of the industry's most influential artists. The fifth Tame Impala album, 'Deadbeat', featuring worldwide hits ‘Dracula' and ‘Loser', arrived in October 2025. Joining John from his LA studio, Kevin shares what he calls his ‘astoundingly boring' approach to producing his famous vocals (spoiler: he's being too modest!), how he created the ‘Deadbeat drum beat', being inspired by The Strokes on this record, the essential plugins that shaped the album's sound, plus he answers questions from our Patreons! The Beatles, Placebo, Stereolab, Love, Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats ainsi que The Presidents of the USA viennent parfaire ce panorama. Suede ouvre le bal des découvertes avec "Emotionally Unavailable". L'émission met en lumière l'alliance explosive d'Electric Callboy et The Offspring sur "Let The Good Times Roll". Argentina sent U.S. authorities a list of roughly 13,000 parents with unpaid court‑ordered child support and asked that they be blocked from entering 2026 World Cup stadiums, arguing that anyone who can afford overseas travel, hotels and match tickets can afford to feed their children first.

You know the type. Always “five minutes away” for the last 3 hours. Somehow has Wi-Fi for Facebook, but not for calling his kids. Rich in excuses, but broke in child support. The girls unpack the behavior, the delusion, and the fallout it leaves behind. In a rare, unfiltered moment, Tracy opens up about what solo parenting really looks like when you're carrying it all without help. For every mom doing it in silence while he's loud on the internet, we see you and we thank you
The squad attempts a high-stakes intervention for Maggie, who is weeks away from giving birth and debating if her son should carry the last name of her "Day Zero" deadbeat ex, Bobby from Baldwin Park. Between the family drama, the crew roasts the Drake Hive for spamming Rihanna's comments with ice emojis and investigates the 140 mph "bullet bus" that might soon be terrorizing California freeways. People REALLY love their impervious surfaces. Concrete structures practically permeate human-built landscapes. Rather than layering ever more concrete on top of living soils, in waterways, and all over the countryside, what if we re-established our connection with natural ecosystems and put a stop to the concrete madness? One of the most inspiring developments of environmental and cultural restoration involves the cleanup of tons and tons of concrete. We're talking dam removal today. So grab a sledge hammer, a few sticks of dynamite, and a wrecking ball, and come along as we explore the battle between concrete placement and concrete removal. And don't miss our interview with Tara Lohan, author of Undammed: Freeing Rivers and Bringing Communities to Life. A lot of people can quote the right theory, wear the right shirt, and post the right meme. Then the moment arrives when you have to sit down with a coworker, ask what they need, and move them toward collective action and suddenly they vanish. We take on that tension by reading and reacting to the provocation “The Left-Wing Deadbeat,” using our own union organizing experience to separate what's real from what's just frustration dressed up as advice. We talk about why some organizing stories feel instantly familiar yet still leave out the most important details: timelines, workplace conditions, power mapping, and what the organizer actually did to develop leaders. From disruptive committee members to under-socialized online habits, we keep coming back to a basic organizing truth: you don't win by judging politics, you win by building relationships, teaching skills, and giving people a path to act. That includes modeling one-on-one conversations, debriefing conflicts, and treating coworkers like human beings instead of line items.Along the way we get into labor movement debates that shape strategy on the ground: rank and file unionism versus staff-driven approaches, labor aristocracy and “PMC” shorthand, what proletarianization looks like in tech and academia, and why certain alliances like cozying up to police unions can blow back strategically. We also look at militancy, when it helps, when it becomes a burnout machine, and why political education matters even in bread-and-butter fights. If you care about workplace organizing, union strategy, and building durable worker power, subscribe, share this with a coworker, and leave a review. What kind of “deadbeat” behavior have you seen, and what actually helped turn it around?Link: https://organizing.work/2020/05/the-leftwing-deadbeat/Send us Fan Mail Musis by Bitterlake, Used with Permission, all rights to BitterlakeSupport the showCrew:Host: C.
