Since it's a holiday weekend, this episode's blurb was written by A.I. (American Intelligents) Happy 250th birthday to the United States of America! And hey America, what better way to celebrate than with an American podcast about the world's most famous American group, The Beatles!! We salute these Beatles American hometowns: John - Menlove Ave, New York City Paul - Forthlin Drive, Carolina Shores, NC George - Wavertree Hall Farm, Virginia Ringo - Dingle, Idaho And since The Beatles have been #1 in America's heart since 1776, scientific statisticians - using recent census figures combined with ATV sales and the market price of halibut - have proven that 9 is truly a magical number. Por ejemplo: 9x4=36 There are 4 Beatles but really there are 36! So this week the Untitled Beatles Codpiece performs as a throuple (T.J., Tony, and Producer Casey), discussing the 90s era Threetles (9-3=3) in their critique of Disney+ (in association with Good Times Video)'s Beatles Anthology Episode 9. Is it truly worthy of a Revolution? Hork down a hot dog sandwich in a muenster truck while hurling a beanball at your Mom! It's American Independence Day served Beatles-style, made possible only by Calderstone Imperial Musical Enterprises Incorporated. Because the Red Album, White Album and Blue Album = Now and Then Forever.

Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, is dominating headlines and social media this week with a series of bold artistic moves and major cultural statements. Just days ago, he premiered the music video for “NUEVAYoL,” the lead single from his latest album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos, intentionally dropping it on July 4th. This release date was not chosen at random; Bad Bunny's decision reframes American Independence Day through a Puerto Rican and immigrant lens, sparking conversation across the internet. According to Los40, he confirmed the date with a simple “sí” to a fan online, making it clear this was a deliberate act.The “NUEVAYoL” video is already causing waves for its political and cultural impact. Set in New York neighborhoods with deep Puerto Rican roots—like the Bronx and Harlem—the video pays homage to the Nuyorican legacy and features updated references to the classic salsa anthem “Un verano en Nueva York.” But the real headline is its unapologetic pro-immigrant message. About halfway through the video, there's a striking sequence where a Donald Trump impersonation plays over a 1970s-style boombox, with the voice declaring, “I want to apologize to the immigrants in America… this country is nothing without the immigrants. This country is nothing without Mexicans, Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Colombians, Venezuelans, Cubans.” The visuals reinforce the statement, showing Puerto Rican flags, quinceañera celebrations, and everyday life in New York, ending with the phrase, “Juntos somos más fuertes”—“Together we are stronger.” Outlets like New India Abroad, Harper's Bazaar, and Hits Daily Double agree: this is Bad Bunny's most pointedly political work yet and lands at a time when immigration is hotly debated in the United States, especially with Congress passing new powers for immigration enforcement just days before.Beyond his music video, Bad Bunny is gearing up for a massive summer: his 30-show residency in Puerto Rico, entitled “No Me Quiero Ir de Aquí,” begins July 11 at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot. This residency is both a homecoming and a love letter to his island roots, and according to Travel Noire, all shows are already sold out. He's also announced a global stadium tour for later in the year, with stops across Latin America, Europe, and Asia.Bad Bunny's new album and recent singles are being praised for their deeply personal and socially conscious direction. The album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos, explores nostalgia, memory, and the immigrant experience. Rolling Stone and Variety report that Bad Bunny feels an obligation to use his platform to speak out on social and political issues, even if it makes some uncomfortable. He's committed to being a voice for Latinx unity, resilience, and pride, as he told Rolling Stone: “I'm going to talk, and whoever doesn't like it doesn't have to listen to me.”Thank you for tuning in to today's update on all things Bad Bunny. Bad Bunny, the global superstar born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, is making headlines this week with the release of his striking new music video for “NUEVAYoL,” the lead single from his most recent album *DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS*. The video premiered on July 4th, a deliberate choice meant to both coincide with and challenge the meaning of American Independence Day. As reported by Los40, Bad Bunny responded simply “sí” when questioned by a fan about timing the drop for this symbolic date, underscoring his intent to reframe the holiday through a Puerto Rican perspective. The “NUEVAYoL” video is much more than a visual spectacle; it's a layered statement about identity, colonialism, and Latin pride. According to Harper's Bazaar, Bad Bunny uses the video to deliver an unflinching critique of former President Donald Trump and the U.S. policy toward immigrants. The most arresting moments include a Puerto Rican independence flag raised atop the Statue of Liberty and a satirical, regret-filled audio staged to sound like a presidential apology to America's immigrant communities. The video weaves together images of celebration, struggle, and resistance, all set to a modernized take on classic Latin music—its very title riffing on El Gran Combo's “Un verano en Nueva York,” an anthem for the Puerto Rican diaspora in New York City.Marca details how Bad Bunny's approach is to fuse entertainment with strong social messages, using his platform to address the lived realities and challenges of Latinos in the United States. By situating the release in New York, a city that has long served as a cultural bridge for Latinos, especially Puerto Ricans, Bad Bunny reclaims both space and narrative. Each scene in the video is loaded with symbolism, from the party atmosphere reminiscent of the city's vibrant neighborhoods to the explicit nods to political and social struggles. The album *DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS* itself has been recognized as a reggaeton masterpiece and a love letter to Puerto Rico. As featured by Staged Haze, Bad Bunny uses the project to explore themes of nostalgia, identity, and resistance, fusing reggaeton with native Puerto Rican genres like plena and salsa. The album's title, “I Should Have Taken More Photos,” hints at both personal reflection and the importance of preserving cultural memory. On social media, the response has been electric. TikTok and X (formerly Twitter) have been flooded with reactions to “NUEVAYoL,” many praising Bad Bunny for turning a national holiday into a powerful platform for immigrant voices and Puerto Rican pride. The significance of Bad Bunny's latest moves isn't limited to music. As his influence expands into popular culture, including a recent cameo in the trailer for Adam Sandler's upcoming “Happy Gilmore 2” and his ongoing Most Wanted Tour (which remains one of the highest-grossing of 2024), his voice continues to resonate. The ongoing protests against anti-immigrant policies and ICE raids in cities like Los Angeles have only amplified the relevance of his message, with Bad Bunny remaining an outspoken critic of these injustices. Thanks for tuning in to this week's update on Bad Bunny. Friday Focus provides listeners with a focused, half-hour masterclass on the big issues, events and trends driving the news and current events. The show features Janice Gross Stein, the founding director of the Munk School of Global Affairs and bestselling author, in conversation with Rudyard Griffiths, Chair and moderator of the Munk Debates. Rudyard and Janice open the show unpacking the effect America's pause on military shipments will have on Ukraine's war effort. Putin has managed to drive a wedge between the US and Ukraine, thus removing the biggest obstacle to his maximalist ambitions. Has America officially walked away from Ukraine? And does Europe have the will, the weapons, and the finances to fill the void and give Ukraine a fighting chance in a war that they are losing? In the second half of the show Rudyard and Janice take stock of America on its Independence Day and agree that things do not look good from north of the border: a President who shows contempt for the courts and rule of law, and a country that is now spending more money servicing its debt than its military. Both Rudyard and Janice worry for America's short term future under this administration, but both are optimistic that American Exceptionalism can withstand this current moment and save the country from decline. Thursday 4h July: The Stars and Stripes Forever – Celebrating American Independence Day by St Martin's Voices
We celebrate American Independence Day with a former military member from a small town in Kentucky. His journey has been punctuated by a profound love for music. From his childhood to his distinguished seventeen-year tenure as a Petty Officer First Class in the United States Navy, music has been a steadfast companion. Now, he channels his experiences, including his battles with Suicide, PTSD, and TBI, into a poignant collection of original songs. With a mission to educate and heal, his music promises to make a meaningful impact on military families, civilians, and all who resonate with his journey. He's my veteran brother, Shannon Book, and he is Someone You Should Know. Rebel Wilson, in her memoir "Rebel Rising," has made a shocking claim that a member of the British Royal family invited her to a drug-fuelled orgy at the home of a US tech billionaire in 2014. Although she did not name the minor royal in question, Wilson provided details about the party and the events that transpired.According to Wilson, she received a last-minute invitation to the party from a man who is "like fifteenth or twentieth in line to the British throne." The party, which had a medieval theme, took place at a rented ranch just outside Los Angeles. Wilson described the scene, saying, "Men were jousting on horses in a field, girls dressed as mermaids were in the pool ... The property was massive, and because it was quite a drive, people had been assigned rooms to sleep there overnight."As the night progressed, Wilson recalled, "I watch the British royal flounder around whilst I continuously hike up my boobs ... There's a huge private fireworks display and then all of a sudden it's 2am and a guy comes out with a large tray piled with what looks like a ton of candy." When she inquired about the "candy," the man holding the tray informed her that it was actually "molly [MDMA]," and another person explained that it was for the orgy that typically starts around that time at such events.Wilson realized that the comment made by the Windsor about needing more girls made more sense in this context. She wrote, "They weren't talking about a boy-girl ratio like it was a year-eight disco. They were talking about an ORGY!" Upon this realization, Wilson said, "Needless to say, I hike up my damsel dress and run out of there as fast as I can."It has been revealed that Meghan Markle's new podcast will not be launching until 2025, as the TV Cooking Show Host has had to put her audio projects on hold to focus on her latest Netflix series, which will cover topics such as "cooking, gardening and friendship."After her twenty five million dollar Spotify deal for 12 episodes was terminated following the controversial Archetypes podcast, Meghan entered into an agreement with US network Lemonada Media. However, producers at her new company have decided to delay the podcast's release to avoid "scheduling conflicts."The launch of Meghan Markle's new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, has been hindered by an Instagram copycat account selling "anti-monarchy" products. The account, @shopamericanrivieraorchard, has used the Duchess of Sussex's name and claims to be based in Montecito. The copycat account has already garnered over 6,000 followers and is using Meghan's brand name to sell a small range of products with an anti-monarchy message. These products include a planner titled "RoyalWealth Reign: Empowering Women's Financial Sovereignty" and a booklet of colouring pages. The homepage of the copycat account features a message referencing American Independence Day, July 4, 1776, and rejecting royal titles such as Prince, Princess, and Duchess. The message reads, "In America, we do not recognize a royal title by someone's name. In America, we believe ALL are created EQUAL. A royal title therefore has no significance. That is why the RoyalWealth Reign™ line was established to recognize and celebrate the working class who are the true heart of our country."

In this episode coinciding with American Independence Day, hosts Kelvin and Tom invite a consideration of distinctly American contributions to the models of online higher education. These contributions continue to shape the evolution of online learning around the globe.
How does a bastard, orphan, son of a whore and a Scotsman, dropped in the middle of a forgotten spot in the Caribbean by providence impoverished in squalor, grow up to be a hero and a scholar? This is the famous question posed by Lin Manuel Miranda in his smash-hit Broadway show Hamilton that's swept the globe. It's a celebration and looks into the life of the once lesser-known founding fathers, instrumental in the creation of the United States in the late 18th Century. To mark American Independence Day celebrations, Senior Lecturer of American Studies at the University of Manchester Dr Natalie Zacek joins Dan to break down Alexander Hamilton's life, role in the American Revolutionary War and whether he really was as important as Miranda's play makes him out to be.Produced by Mariana Des Forges & Hannah WardMixed and Mastered by Dougal PatmoreIf you'd like to learn more, we have hundreds of history documentaries, ad-free podcasts and audiobooks at History Hit - subscribe today!
