As many as 12 per cent of all workers in Canada are on the clock after midnight. And that can have an impact on your health, your relationships, and your home life. Today we hear from some of the people who work while the rest of the country sleeps, including long-haul truckers, health-care aids and DJs.Trucker Leah Gorham regularly goes on long-haul treks with her boyfriend Roland Bereczki, where they trade off shifts so they can be on the move 24 hours a day. They tell us how they maintain a relationship when your bodies are on opposite clocks - while doing one of the most dangerous jobs out there. For the last four years, health-care aid Tes has been working the night shift at a personal care home in Aldergrove, BC. And not all those nights are peaceful.Sam Stratigeas has always loved the night, and pumping up nightclub crowds as his alter ego DJ Sammm. But it wasn't until his divorce and coming out that he took it more seriously, and now at 62 he can be found spinning at venues across Toronto's gay village. Some people say nothing good ever happens at 2 am, but don't tell that to the overnight staff at the WE24 Safe Space For Youth in Winnipeg. Every night, they open up their doors to provide food, laundry and a safe sleeping area for vulnerable youth in the neighborhood. And more importantly, they offer hope. When Binita Lamsal needed a second job to make ends meet, she asked Deepak Kumar for work at his overnight cleaning business. They tell us how their friendship bloomed into a romance on the night shift, and what they're dreaming of next.
In this week's episode, we explore how knee osteoarthritis affects the way people walk. Experts Dr. Kathryn Bacon and Associate Professor Deepak Kumar from Boston University explain that osteoarthritis impacts everyone differently, but common changes include walking slower, taking fewer steps per minute, and experiencing more muscle activity and pressure on certain parts of the knee. Join them as they reveal findings from one of their recent major studies, in which 2,500 participants wore sensors to track their walking patterns. Interestingly, the data from the study showed that changes in walking speed, step length, and symmetry can be linked to worsening pain and knee function over time.Importantly, we also discuss how this research can help doctors understand osteoarthritis better and develop new ways to monitor and treat it, using simple sensors to track walking patterns in everyday life.Tune in to learn more about how osteoarthritis impacts walking and the implications for future research and treatment.RESOURCESJournal articles Gait Alterations and Association With Worsening Knee Pain and Physical Function: A Machine Learning Approach With Wearable Sensors in the Multicenter Osteoarthritis Study - PubMed (nih.gov) Website www.osteoarthritisclinicalresearchgroup.com.auCONNECT WITH USTwitter/X: @ProfDavidHunter @jointactionorgInstagram: @ProfDavidHunterEmail: hello@jointaction.info Hosted on Acast. MONDAY MANNA - "The Value of our faith" (Bro. Deepak Kumar) - 21st August 2023
with @alive_eth @danboneh @smc90This week's all-new episode covers the convergence of two important, very top-of-mind trends: AI (artificial intelligence) & blockchains/ crypto. These domains together have major implications for how we all live our lives everyday; so this episode is for anyone just curious about, or already building in the space. The conversation covers topics ranging from deep fakes, bots, and the need for proof-of-humanity in a world of AI; to big data, large language models like ChatGPT, user control, governance, privacy and security, zero knowledge and zkML; to MEV, media, art, and much more. Our expert guests (in conversation with host Sonal Chokshi) include: Dan Boneh, Stanford Professor (and Senior Research Advisor at a16z crypto), a cryptographer who's been working on blockchains for over a decade and who specializes in cryptography, computer security, and machine learning -- all of which intersect in this episode;Ali Yahya, general partner at a16z crypto, who also previously worked at Google -- where he not only worked on a distributed system for a fleet of robots (a sort of "collective reinforcement learning") but also worked on Google Brain, where he was one of the core contributors to the machine learning library TensorFlow built at Google. The first half of the hallway-style conversation between Ali & Dan (who go back together as student and professor at Stanford) is all about how AI could benefit from crypto, and the second half on how crypto could benefit from AI... the thread throughout is the tension between centralization vs. decentralization. So we also discuss where the intersection of crypto and AI can bring about things that aren't possible by either one of them alone...pieces referenced in this episode/ related reading:The Next Cyber Reasoning System for Cyber Security (2023) by Mohamed Ferrag, Ammar Battah, Norbert Tihanyi, Merouane Debbah, Thierry Lestable, Lucas CordeiroA New Era in Software Security: Towards Self-Healing Software via Large Language Models and Formal Verification (2023) by Yiannis Charalambous, Norbert Tihanyi, Ridhi Jain, Youcheng Sun, Mohamed Ferrag, Lucas CordeiroFixing Hardware Security Bugs with Large Language Models (2023) by Baleegh Ahmad, Shailja Thakur, Benjamin Tan, Ramesh Karri, Hammond PearceDo Users Write More Insecure Code with AI Assistants? Episode 59: Analytics Shorts: 3 Stories Guests: Tyler King, Deepak Kumar, A.G. Tan This week we are showcasing three of QueBIT's expert consultants: Tyler King, Deepak Kumar and A.G. Tan. They have so many great stores to tell, but very little spare time, so we came up with this idea of the three-minute-story. Tell us about a favorite project in about three minutes by recording it on your own phone, whenever you have a moment! It's a fun format, and you get to hear about a global convenience store company, a retailer and a bank … all in under 15 minutes! Each of these companies had a different planning and analysis business problem that they solved using analytics technology and a little help from QueBIT. We hope these examples help you imagine the value analytics technology can bring. It goes far beyond merely saving time, reducing manual effort and better governance, important as these all are. What we strive for is to help companies improve the quality of their decision making, by presenting all the relevant information to each individual at the time they need it, and in a form they can readily consume.
MONDAY MANNA - "Corporate Accountability versus the Lordship of Jesus" (Bro. Deepak Kumar) - 27th June 2022
In this episode, we are discussing the impact of physical therapy on long-term opioid use for patients undergoing a total knee replacement. My expert guest is Professor Deepak Kumar. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training at Boston University and the Section of Rheumatology at Boston University School of Medicine. He directs the Movement and Applied Imaging Lab at Boston University. The goal of Dr. Kumar's research is to improve the quality and quantity of movement during everyday life in people with knee osteoarthritis to reduce pain, improve physical function and maintain joint health. We're going to review the findings of Professor Kumar's study called the Association of Physical Therapy Interventions With Long-term Opioid Use After Total Knee Replacement. You can find that article in the October 2021 edition of the Journal of the American Medical Association. This show has implications for people with chronic pain. Also, there is important information here for opioid use and the positive impact that physical therapy can have on people's lives living with chronic pain. Without further ado, let's begin and let's meet Professor Deepak Kumar. Love the show? Subscribe, rate, review, and share! Guest: Deepak Kumar As a company grows and needs to develop specialized functions such as “Sales”, “Operations” and “Finance”, keeping everyone coordinated and on the same page takes more and more concerted effort. Over time, this natural separation leads to separate systems, business processes and data sets, since different functions have varying technology-support needs. While an individual function's technology investment can lead to day-jobs becoming easier in that function, there is a cost in terms of added complexity in the data and technology landscape, which makes it harder to get a holistic view of the business. In this episode we talk to Deepak Kumar, QueBIT's Supply Chain specialist, about how tracking shared Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across the finance and operational supply chain functions can help companies transcend internal barriers in a practical way to make integrated business planning a reality. As always, we try to keep the discussion jargon-free, so that even someone unfamiliar with the business jargon around supply chains and KPIs will – hopefully – enjoy getting a deeper understanding of the issues.

In this episode, we welcomed Assistant Professor at BU Sargent College Deepak Kumar. As the Director of Movement & Applied Imaging Lab, Professor Kumar explained the condition of osteoarthritis, and the lab's research on the disorder, during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also provided constructive advice to students who are interested in such research. About the Movement & Applied Imaging Lab: The Movement & Applied Imaging Lab is directed by Dr. Deepak Kumar. The Lab is a trans-disciplinary collaboration with the objective of preventing and managing musculoskeletal disorders, primarily osteoarthritis. We use state-of-the-art technologies to study the quality and quantity of movement during daily activities, and its effects on the health of cartilage, muscle, bone, etc. This information helps us identify risk factors for hip and knee osteoarthritis. Specific populations that may be at-risk include athletes with femoroacetabular impingement at the hip, ACL tears, meniscus injuries, and older adults with obesity, and women. Our goal is to develop novel strategies to prevent and manage the disability associated with hip and knee osteoarthritis. Pray for continued blessings over Lifeline's relationship with CARA and for continued open doors for children to be placed with Gospel centered forever families. In the midst of challenges and opposition, pray for the Gospel to continue to move forward in India through intercountry adoption. Pray for God to continue to provide the right Gospel-centered families for these children who are in need of families. Please pray for our team in the US as they serve families and continue to grow the India program. Pray for our amazing representative, Alex Sam, as he coordinates families' travel to India. And for our other guides that he leads (Dolly, Vikram, Neha, Godsey) Pray for our team's upcoming travel to India in February – For the staff leading those trips and for the important meetings and relationships that will be built. India is the country with the largest number of orphans in the world. Pray that these children would be reached with the hope of the Gospel and that they would be used as active agents of redemption in this nation. Only 2.2% of India's population professes Christianity, and almost 95% is unreached. Pray for the Gospel to go forth in these areas where it has not yet been proclaimed. Pray for people's hearts to be softened to the Gospel and that India would become a nation full of people who fear the Lord and serve Him faithfully. Pray for God to give Lifeline wisdom as we discern how God is leading us to strategically be involved in the work that He is doing throughout India. Praise that in November, we celebrated our 50th child coming home from India with their forever family! Praise for the connections the Lord has given us through STEPS home in Chennai and Krupa Ministries in Bangalore... Along with the many connections He continues to provide. Praise the Lord for CARA remaining very pro-adoption, even in the midst of some challenges over the past couple of years. Pray for this pro-adoption mindset to continue and for continued favor with Lifeline specifically. Master's Degree in Food Science at Oklahoma State University candidate Deepak Kumar Duraivelu Rajmohan reached out to PeasOnMoss through LinkedIn. He had heard the Culinology episode with Chef Barton Dewing and thought it was very informative about the food manufacturing industry. Over the past few months, he has interviewed over 50 professionals in the industry, asking them for advice about getting into the product development field and about skills that would distinguish him. In our interview we talk about mentorship, how and why he has reached out to so many professionals, and about his upcoming internship and why he felt it was vital to do one before entering the workforce. At OK State University, his research broadly focuses on flavor modification and organoleptic enhancement of Spirulina protein. Want to join the conversation? Sponsor the show? Email and get details.
