Blame Canada, mutts! We're talking zombies, propaganda, ethics of journalism, and metaphorical metaphors in this month's episode on PONTYPOOL (2008). Dipping back into the well again, reaching to September 2020, here's the audio version (cleaned up and shortened) of my review of Mondo Boys' score for She Dies Tomorrow. Again, the audio is still a little rougher but after thirty seconds or so you don't really notice (or at least I didn't as I was editing). There's also a nauseating little cue thrown in the middle - which I embarrassingly called a "song", which Sony was kind enough to give me permission to use when I first recorded this. I don't have a written review of this one, but I did end up reaching out to Mondo Boys shortly after and interviewing them: https://thefilmscorer.com/an-interview-with-mondo-boys/ This is one of my favorite interviews, because we recorded for about two and a half hours on a Saturday night, drinking whiskey. How I turned it into a tight, coherent, sub-hour interview I don't know...

Not only are we delighted to welcome special guest David Lawson Jr from Rustic Films back to the pod, but this episode marks his induction into our own Five-Timer's Club! David was our first appeared on our pod way back in our SHE DIES TOMORROW episode, and now a few years later he's back to discuss the horror anthology he has curated for Dark Matter Ink: HAUNTED REELS! We talk a bit about our favorite horror movie anthologies along the way, but mainly we're here to celebrate the release of a very special collection. David's assembled an amazing lineup of contributors that includes several creators we've talked about on the pod before (Justin Benson, Aaron Moorhead, Ariel Vida, C. Robert Cargill, Graham Skipper, Gary Sherman and many, many more), and we're absolutely delighted for everyone involved. You can see the full table of contents and order a copy directly from the publisher at this link: https://darkmattermagazine.shop/pages/haunted-reels We hope everyone enjoys the chat with David, we hope everyone picks up a copy of the book, and as always thanks so much for listening! Chris Messina is that rare character actor leading man who is the go-to supporting actor in seemingly everything. From “The Mindy Project” and “Newsroom,” to “She Dies Tomorrow” and “I Care A Lot,” he handles ultra-serious roles (like in “Blame,” which I loved) or uproarious ones (such as this year's hit “Air”) with what seems like effortlessness, and now he's starring in the new series “Based on a True Story” with Kaley Cuoco. In this hour, he generously takes us on an extended tour of his process. He talks about learning to “experience” rather than “act,” why the thought of preparing a role “for 14 years” excites him, and the elements that make up “Air” which elevated his work past simply being four phone calls. He tells wonderful stories about his time at the Actors Studio in New York, getting a helpful note from Amy Adams that has profoundly affected his work, why a recent viewing of “Raging Bull” got him emotional, and leaves us with much more inspiration and wisdom than we had before. Back To One is the in-depth, no-nonsense, actors-on-acting podcast from Filmmaker Magazine. In each episode, host Peter Rinaldi invites one working actor to do a deep dive into their unique process, psychology, and approach to the craft. Follow Back To One on Instagram

Her small-screen work includes “Legion,” “Animals,” “Togetherness,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Veep,” “The Office,” “Room 104” and “Casual.”Aselton made her directorial debut with The Freebie, in which she also stars. The film premiered to much critical acclaim at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and was released theatrically by Phase 4. The film premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and was released by LD Entertainment.Katie's new film is Mack & Rita starring the legendary Diane Keaton. When 30-year-old self-proclaimed homebody Mack Martin (Elizabeth Lail) reluctantly joins a Palm Springs bachelorette trip for her best friend Carla (Taylour Paige), her inner 70-year-old is released — literally. The frustrated writer and influencer magically transforms into her future self: “Aunt Rita” (Oscar winner Diane Keaton). Freed from the constraints of other people's expectations, Rita comes into her own, becoming an unlikely social media sensation and sparking a tentative romance with Mack's adorable dog-sitter, Jack (Dustin Milligan). Over-exposure makes the heart grow fonder, it seems. In the U.S., the movie A Christmas Story (1983) gets played on a loop for twentyfour hours, every single year at Christmas. And people love it! Meanwhile, in the Netherlands most people will probably never have heard about director Bob Clark's festive classic. It's an episodic family film, centered on Ralphie, a boy who want a BB gun for Christmas. Adventures and larks ensue. And if you've grown up with it, like filmmakers Albert Birney and Kentucker Audley, chances are you'll varry it in your heart with deep, warm feelings. One of the most refreshing cinema experiences of 2021 was the brilliant and charming Strawberry Mansion, by the directing duo Audley and Birney. At least, for Dutch audiences, because in the States it will be released in February 2022. Kentucker also plays the lead. And you may have seen him before in Ain't Them Bodies Saints, or in V/H/S or the intriguing She Dies Tomorrow. But if you haven't seen Strawberry Mansion yet, please, treat yourself! In the episode, we also discuss what it implies when you say a movie "works" or not, watching a Christmas movie when it's nowhere near Christmas and director Bob Clark's other yuletide output. Big J is NOT a fan of the movie "She Dies Tomorrow!" And some lady in the UK got fired for farting, the best part is her excuse.
It's a critic's choice week here on Polarized and we are talking about our most polarizing movie yet, She Dies Tomorrow (2020). We bounce around the premise of the film, rave about art made in a microscope, and try to uncover why this movie is so reviled by audience members. Critics: 83% Audience: 23%

Is this Tannat/Cab Franc blend the right wine for this dark, mysterious, deeply personal movie? Just how many wines has Jamie tasted? Is Scott actually getting better at tasting wine? Which convinced-they're-going-to-die-tomorrow characters in the ensemble do our hosts most empathize with? Answers to those questions and more await your eager ears. Just gotta push play, yo. SHE DIES TOMORROW is written and directed by Amy Seimetz. It is available to stream on Hulu as of this episode's release. The 2018 Chateau Viella Madiran ‘Tradition' is available at Moore Bros.
With the pandemic happening, a lot of film festivals have transitioned to being online, which has been amazing for so many, myself included. I love participating in the festivals and have applied for a press pass for several different festivals and I always get excited when I get approved. I know I am a small podcast for the time being, but I also know that this will make it big and I love being able to share my passion for television and film with everyone. This year I was able to get a press pass for the Chattanooga Film Festival and David messaged me on Instagram saying he loved film and drinking and asked if I needed guests, I replied very promptly with a yes. I am so happy that he messaged me, this is the first festival that I have been a part of that I have actually been able to chat about on the podcast; the other festivals are just showcased in my Instagram stories (which you can go check out). We zoomed a couple days after the end of the festival and went through what we had watched and discussed the films, hopefully the films will be available at some point for you guys to watch and enjoy. This was such a fun interview. David is a film producer with Rustic Films, you can check out Synchronic starring Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan on Netflix as well as She Dies Tomorrow starring Jane Adams and Kate Lyn Sheil on Hulu. He also has several more films in the works including Mental Health and Horror: A Documentary. Welcome to The Last Thing I Saw, with your host, Nicolas Rapold. This week is a two-part episode, with a special interview. First I chat with the one and only Amy Taubin about our recent viewing, starting with the new Steven Soderbergh movie, No Sudden Move, a highlight of the summer. We also cherry-pick a couple of films from festivals, Courtroom 3H and Souad. And looking at the big picture, we celebrate online programs like Another Screen. And then the grand finale: I chat with No Sudden Move star, actor-writer-director Amy Seimetz (The Girlfriend Experience, She Dies Tomorrow, Pet Sematary). Seimetz plays Mary, an executive's wife held hostage by criminals (played by Don Cheadle and company)who are putting the squeeze on her husband. Keith Silva joins host Jason Sacks for a fun, interesting and lively discussion of two very different yet very similar films: Klute, from 1971, directed by Alan J. Pakula and starring Jane Fonda, and "She Dies Tomorrow", from 2020, directed by Amy Seimetz and starring Kate Lyn Sheil and Jane Adams. It's a great kickoff to this podcast, and we think a fascinating listen. WARNING: THERE ARE SPOILERS FOR BOTH FILMS! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jason-sacks/message

Av and Sammy reveal their preference on that most cinematic of dilemmas: popcorn or the picture - but first they tackle the far more forbidding lineup of movies released this September, culminating in a featured review (37:00) of Charlie Kaufman's I'm Thinking of Ending Things -- spoiler free until the 40:30 mark. New movies discussed include recommendations: Boys State (8:00); The Devil All The Time (16:00); The Social Dilemma (24:45); Get Duked! (29:15); House of Hummingbird (32:10). And a few we urge you to avoid - Unpregnant, Mulan, I Used to Go Here, She Dies Tomorrow, Misbehaviour, Extra Ordinary (... yup, it was that kind of month). Plus, two genuine classics before the bow. Outré: Lonely Room, sung by Jesse Plemons, written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II for Oklahoma (1943)
Settle in with the ghouls for a review and discussion on new horror release She Dies Tomorrow. Warning: Spoilers and one really bizarre slumber party story ahead.
On a new episode of Watch With Friends we talk about the new film She Dies Tomorrow, which is now available on VOD platforms. We sectioned off this episode into non-spoiler and spoiler parts. In the non-spoiler parts we talk about our first hand opinions on the film and we dive deep into some questions about DEATH. What would you do if you had the knowledge of when you were going to die? Would you want to know in the first place? Among other curious questions. The second half we dive deep into the movie, how we reacted to certain parts of the film, and the directors true meaning when she was creating this film. The Nose is worried about movie theaters. The pandemic has done such damage to the industry that Hollywood has started treating the U.S. as a second-run market. And now the Paramount Consent Decrees have ended. (We're not exactly sure what that means, but it's not good.) Is the future of movie theaters... Walmart drive-ins? Beware: this premiere episode contains spoilers that are potentially non-spoilers for the film Memento and the television series Game of Thrones. Max and Connor DEFINITELY spoil the 1978 Invasion of the Body Snatchers and A Nightmare on Elm Street. They discuss and/or mention Noroi: The Curse, She Dies Tomorrow (available on VOD Friday August 5th [not sponsored]), Night of the Living Dead, and Shirley, but they don't come anywhere close to spoiling those movies. Max and Connor also discuss mortality, Catholicism, unlearning, America, motel life, audience behavior and expectations at the drive-in, the Windows 98 Microsoft Entertainment Pack: The Puzzle Collection, ghosts, determinism, CRT TVs, and much more. I forget a lot of it. I'd have to go back and listen to the episode again.
