In this episode: Since taking total control of state government 25 years ago, Florida Republicans have systematically rolled back reforms that once kept state courts independent. It was a project launched by Jeb Bush, expanded by Rick Scott, and that has now culminated under Ron DeSantis with a Florida Supreme Court that is a rubber stamp for the governor and Legislature — and a roadblock for anyone who dares to challenge them. Learn more about how it happened from Martin Dyckman, a Florida journalist and historian whose investigative reporting once exposed Supreme Court corruption and spurred some of the very reforms that have been undone.Show notes:Read this Dyckman column in the Sun-Sentinel explaining some of the history and changes in more detail. And if you want to do a truly deep dive into the subject, check out his book: A Most Disorderly Court: Scandal and Reform in the Florida Judiciary (and don't forget his biographies of Govs. Reubin Askew and Leroy Collins, too).Questions or comments? Today's episode is special in the whole extension of the word because Gilda Dyckman joins us to tell the story of her identical twins, Troy and Brent. The twins, now 22, were blessed with an autism diagnosis, and since they arrived in Gilda and her husband's lives, they did nothing but bring joy, good laughs, and tons of teachings about love, empathy, patience, and compassion. Gilda has owned Cars Muffler & Automotive since 1996, where she recently hired Brent to help her with filing and reconciling statements. Throughout our conversation, Gilda shares details of the twins' journey to incorporate into the American workforce. The challenges they face to get a job and the bitter flavor of negatives from shop owners who (sometimes) can't grasp the value exceptional adults can add to their businesses. Gilda also debunks some myths about the supposed dangers of hiring special people, explains why sometimes an autistic person might be perfect for specific jobs, and so much more. In This Episode, You Will Learn:A bit about Gilda's challenging and fun journey (3:31)Some differences between Troy and Brent (6:25)A proposal Brent had to think about for a couple of days (10:33)What are ILS and Tailor Services, and how do they work (17:21)How Trey and Brent changed life also at Cars Muffler & Automotive (23:08)Why hiring exceptional adults is an excellent idea (27:04)Resources:Cars Muffler & Automotive websiteCollective Social Services website. St. Laz uncharacteristically went live to discuss GenPop on YouTube. He doesn't limit the conversation to the show, he discusses his music career, the music he likes, Dr. York, spending time in New Jersey, copping weed in Dyckman, reentering the community post-incarceration, and much more. St. Laz is a veteran NYC rapper who has been on MTV, BET, & had several songs in rotation on Hot 97. He's collaborated with almost every prominent artist over generations, from Styles P to recent hit songs with Gunna & Roddy Rich. Before all that, however, Laz served a six-year prison sentence, followed by a few parole violations. His journey took him from Rikers Island to correctional institutions throughout the New York State Department of Corrections. He served time at some of the worse facilities, including Comstock, Ft. Greene, Franklin, & more. In this show Laz will bring you the unfiltered truth of what really goes on inside of "correctional facilities" and he holds nothing back. Sometimes hilarious, sometimes disturbing, and always memorable, Laz will tell you just how barbaric, unnecessary, and damaging mass incarceration is, from the inmates, their families, all the way to the overpoliced communities the cycles begin in. Watch Laz tell the stories here. Listen to Laz's Hip-Hop podcast The Super Facts Show here. Follow St. Laz on Instagram here. Listen to St. Laz music here.

Ron Artest once said that his brother could have easily played in the NBA. His game was unique to say the least. Standing at a generous 6’4’’, the 265 pounder played the Center/Forward spot effectively with his high basketball IQ, explosive vertical leap, and 7’3’ wingspan. He was a self-taught basketball player who has earned the respect from hoopers and recieved the nickname "Da Guardian". We always heard about the stories, so we went ahead and tracked down Daniel Artest to learn from the man himself. Artest never played a minute of High School basketball, only AAU where he played with former number one player in the nation, Lenny Cooke. He went the Junior College route where he earned an opportunity to play overseas and even cracked an NBA Summer League team with the Sacramento Kings. Daniel could flat out HOOP and there are plenty of stories here about playing at the Rucker tournaments, working out with the Pacers, Malice at the Palace, NBA Summer League, Overseas, all the famous hip hop artists he grew up with, and MUCH more. We loved our time with Daniel and we can’t thank him enough for all of the knowledge, laughs, and time he shared with us. He also has his own Podcast so be sure to check it out if you love Daniel as much as we did! He is continuing to make a name for himself and we can guarantee that big things lie ahead.Thank you Daniel Artest!Be sure to support 2sixty5 Media and his Podcast titled “The Daniel Artest Podcast”

In anticipation of more of nothing, Dyckman Basketball week continues. Last week, the team at Referee Rant drove down (ironically the day before they cancelled all permits) down to NYC, and it was eerie as you possibly can imagine. We want to salute to factions that are vital to Dyckman Basketball. First up, Ken Widgeon, who played at Dyckman growing up, and gets to officiate there; and of course Erin and Lawrence from the The Baller's Journal, who were a media staple on the scene last summer. They both get a chance to share what Dyckman means to them. I hope y'all enjoy.
