In this week's episode I'm chatting with Emma Håkansson, an activist, author, and founder of Collective Fashion Justice – an organisation campaigning for a fashion system that upholds total ethics, by prioritising the life and wellbeing of our fellow animals, people and the planet we share. I first heard about Emma through Slay, a documentary on the behind the scenes of the leather industry – you might remember hearing about it in the episode I did with Poppy Mason Watts from WaterBear Network, as the film is available for free on their streaming platform.Emma has been advocating for a more ethical fashion system for years – so we spoke about how to navigate the “sustainable” fashion space, which can be so confusing and misleading. We discussed the environmental impact of animal leather and how leather is actually a profitable co-product, rather than a byproduct of the meat industry as we're often led to believe. We also spoke about the carbon tunnel vision - this idea that by focusing on carbon emissions we tend to overlook other important issues such as biodiversity loss, overconsumption, pollution, inequality, and animal exploitation.Want to dive deeper?Get Emma's book here - https://lnk.to/HowVeganismCanSaveUsSign up to Collective Fashion Justice's newsletter - https://www.collectivefashionjustice.org/newsletterGrazed and confused report - https://www.oxfordmartin.ox.ac.uk/downloads/reports/fcrn_gnc_report.pdfCollective Fashion Justice leather report series - https://www.collectivefashionjustice.org/under-their-skinCFJ material guide - https://www.collectivefashionjustice.org/material-guideLittle linksEmma on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/hakamme/Collective Fashion Justice on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/collectivefashionjustice/Why We Care on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/whywecarepodcast/Tiphaine on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/tiphainemarie_/If you enjoyed the episode and want to help the podcast, I would be super grateful if you could leave a little review or share it with a friend who might like it.Thank you for caring and sending you lots of love! How do we apply a philosophy of all-encompassing ethics to fashion? As a vegan, I started with animals - but then discovered other topics such as workers' rights, feminism, and environmental destruction. Former model Emma Håkansson has made it her mission to spread her message of total ethics fashion - the intersection between the rights of animals, humans and the environment when it comes to the fashion industry. Her organisation Collective Fashion Justice works to promote a new fashion system which is just, solution-focused, and fair for all. In this episode, I talk to Emma about her journey in the fashion industry, how she works to raise awareness of why we need total ethics fashion, and how mentalities are shifting when it comes to using animals for clothing. Plus, more about her book, How Veganism Can Save Us!

This sermon is going to educate you on the Spark of Life and How Yahusha was born via Abba Yah without Him committing sin towards Mary. What is the Spark of Life?-Northwestern.edu-2016 All of biology starts at the time of fertilization, yet we know next to nothing about the events that occur in the human. This discovery required a unique partnership between biologists and chemists and non-federal dollars to support the research,” she said. The study was published April 26 in Scientific Reports. As the zinc is released from the egg, it binds to small molecule probes, which emit light in fluorescence microscopy experiments. Thus the rapid zinc release can be followed as a flash of light that appears as a spark. “These fluorescence microscopy studies establish that the zinc spark occurs in human egg biology, and that can be observed outside of the cell,” said Tom O'Halloran, a co-senior author. O'Halloran is the Charles E. and Emma H. Morrison Professor in Chemistry in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences and director of Northwestern's Chemistry of Life Processes Institute. MMP #16: Insights into Toxoplasma gondii parasites

Host: Jeff Fox with special guest, Emma Wilson. Emma H. Wilson of the University of California, Riverside, talks with Jeff Fox about efforts, with her collaborators to determine more precisely how Toxoplasma gondii parasites disrupt the mammalian brain—in this case, the brains of mice. This same parasite infects about one-third of the human population, but is held in check by the immune system unless those host defense mechanisms become impaired. Wilson and her collaborators find that these parasites interfere with the cycling of the neurotransmitter glutamate within the central nervous system, blocking its uptake by astrocytes, widely distributed cells within brains that are intertwine with and thus work very closely with neurons, which are the main cells for transmitting nerve impulses throughout the central nervous system.  Some damaging effects of the parasites can be reversed by treating the mice with a drug—in this case, it happens to be an antibacterial drug but here acts by a separate mechanism-- that helps to restore the glutamate transport protein in astrocytes. In this way, it partly corrects that glutamate imbalance within the brain. This story was featured in the August 2016 issue of Microbe Magazine. Workshop #21 Young Composers & Improvisors Workshop Recordings

I started just with putting notes together, moving it around and I made a composition I really like. I started using pizz and it sounds really good now. I am telling a story of a person walking alone at night and he is sad. I think the main instrument in my piece is the flute. I love composing music because I feel really free and happy and I can do whatever I want. No one has power over me saying it has to be about... I like feeling free! One of my challenges was finding a good chord progresiion through the entire piece. Composing for orchestra was much harder this year because we had to compose for many more people. Last year all we had to do was compose for 6 people. I liked the challenge though.

This week on Across The Pond I have two tracks from the incredible String Sisters. The String Sisters is a collaboration of the Celtic music world’s top female fiddlers; Annbjørg Lien from Norway, Catriona Macdonald from Shetland, Liz Carroll and Liz Knowles from the US, Mairead ni Mhaonaigh (Altan) from Ireland and Emma Härdelin from Sweden. Originally brought together for a special one-time show at Glasgow’s annual Celtic Connections festival to celebrate each of their region’s musical traditions, the results of this live recording contain some of the most brilliant fiddling heard in Celtic music. On Live, the String Sisters are joined by David Milligan (piano), Conrad Ivitsky (double bass), Tore Bruvoll (guitar) and James Mackintosh (drums). This is one of most beautiful, uplifting and inspiring albums I have heard in years. So expect more tracks from it in future shows. It is on repeat mode on my iPod in the car righ now. Also on this week's show music from Dr. John, Mark Knopfler, Seamus Begley and Stephen Cooney, The Bluegrass Cardinals and more.
