Hey hey! We're wrapping up another great season! Season 11. Thank you SO much to everyone who has continued to support and taken us to over 8600 downloads. We really got into the numbers this season. The topic of finance is so interesting, and the more I learn, the less scared and anxious I feel. While things are really uncertain in our current economy, I feel with each new wild thing that happens I'm surprised yet not surprised at the same time. Ya know???However I'm grateful for people who are passionate about educating others with the knowledge that they have, and helping put people at ease during this time of chaos. There are so many people who are desiring to learn more about how to budget, how to understand their finances to make big financial goals…. And essentially create generational wealth. With this season I desired to find people who were trustworthy, relatable, and most importantly lead or educated from the heart. Bernadette from episode 122 was the perfect guest to open up the season. If you haven't read her book: Crush Your Money Goals you really should do that ASAP. It's a great read, and super relatable. Monica from ep 127 shared her passion for helping people and reminding us that there are still people who are in government positions who are doing their best to help the American people.Julissa from episode 123 shared that she was inspired by her own experience of being taken advantage of and committed to educating herself for the purpose of educating others so that they can have the best information to protect themselves and make sure they are insured for the future. And Lupita from episode 128 is breaking stereotypes as a financial advisor that is relatable, and authentic, as she does her best to relate to her community in order to offer the best financial advice and present the best options for her clients.Araceli from episode 130 and Jackie from episode 124 are really seeking to support small businesses to that they can have financial organization and understanding in their business numbers.  And a huge shoutout to my returning guests this season, Rosalie from ep 125, as she spoke about her new book, Building a Beautiful Business con Confianza and the top risk for businesses being finance. And my amigas, Jasmine and Adriana from episode 129. They were awesome to sit down with me for a recording after facilitating workshops all day for our Latina Brilliance Event in March. We did a recap of our Q&A session for the podcast and the knowledge they shared was gold. I'll be coming back in a few months with season 12. I'm actually taking this quarter to do a complete audit of all my businesses and focus on marketing plans and prep for the end of the year & the future. I'll still be on Instagram, and will stay connected through emails, so I'll still be around as I prep for next season. Ok amigos, thank you so much for listening, after you listen feel free to take a screenshot to post on IG and tag @elevatinglacultura or send me a DM. You can also comment on our YouTube video if you're watching online. I always like to hear from people and how they resonate with the stories I share. SO leave a review on apple podcasts so we can get more ears listening to these stories and we can continue elevating la cultura.Enjoy the rest of the day/afternoon/evening whenever you're listening, y nos vemos pronto.

From $300K in Debt to Seven Figures: Bernadette Joy's Inspiring Money StoryThis week on The Note Closers Show, we were thrilled to have Bernadette Joy, a best-selling author and inspiring finance expert, share her incredible journey from crushing over $300,000 in debt to building a seven-figure net worth. Bernadette's story is a testament to the power of perseverance, strategic planning, and a dash of humor—because who doesn't need a laugh when battling debt? Her path to financial freedom wasn't a straight line. After graduating with three degrees (two in business and one in psychology!), Bernadette found herself drowning in student loan debt and credit card balances. She tried various debt repayment strategies, finding that the "debt snowball" resonated most with her—but not without some humorous bumps along the way.Key Takeaways from Bernadette's Financial Journey:The Power of the Debt Snowball: Bernadette's journey started with the debt snowball method, paying off the smallest debts first to build momentum and stay motivated. However, she later discovered the importance of finding a method that worked best for her.The $1 Rule: This unique approach focuses on making intentional spending decisions. If an item costs $1 or less per use, then you buy it. This helps avoid the endless analysis paralysis that can prevent progress. It's a clever way to reward yourself while maintaining a budget!Financial Literacy: Bernadette emphasizes the importance of financial education. She warns against accepting generic advice and stresses the need to adapt strategies to your unique circumstances and personality. Mental Health Matters: Bernadette highlights the emotional toll of debt and the importance of prioritizing mental and physical well-being. She emphasizes taking breaks, celebrating successes, and not allowing financial struggles to consume your life.Seek Your Own Path: There's no one-size-fits-all approach to financial success. Bernadette encourages everyone to find the strategies that work for them, embracing their unique circumstances and values.Humor and Relatable Moments:Bernadette's interview was filled with candid anecdotes, humor, and relatable stories. She shared her struggles with debt, her initial resistance to embracing the debt snowball method, her frustration with overly simplistic financial advice, and the importance of prioritizing mental health while pursuing financial goals. Her story is honest, vulnerable, and deeply inspiring. Her unique "$1 rule" is particularly clever, offering a simple yet effective way to manage discretionary spending. She emphasizes that while the debt snowball can be a great starting point, it's crucial to find the strategy that resonates best with your personality and circumstances. There's no need for endless spreadsheet analysis!Key Takeaways for Your Financial Journey:Embrace Education: Continuous learning is essential to navigate the complexities of personal finance.Find Your Own Path: There's no one-size-fits-all solution. Experiment, adapt, and find what works best for you.Prioritize Mental Health: Financial success isn't just about numbers; it's about overall well-being. Celebrate your wins, and don't be afraid to ask for help.Build a Support System: Surround yourself with a supportive community that can offer encouragement, guidance, and accountability.Bernadette Joy's inspiring journey proves that financial freedom is attainable with hard work, a well-defined plan, and a healthy dose of perseverance and humor. Bernadette (Bernadebt?) Joy went from being in debt to crushing her money goals and now she helps others too! She tells Lauren how cutting too much from your budget can be unsustainable. You must think about your mental health. A lot of people in debt suffer in silence, and it shouldn't be that way. It's normal to take on debt for things, like houses, cars, and school. What would your life look like without loans? Shame, guilt, and depression can be associated with debt. Bernadette even said her psychology degree may be more useful than her business degree. It's important to explore assumptions, like “I need to have $10,000” in my checking account? The two discussed the debt snowball vs. debt avalanche. Bernadette has seen more success with snowball than avalanche. And knowing there's a mental health aspect to consider as well, i.e. the heavy burden of owing your family money. She offers tactical tips like, it may make sense to pay off a recent loan if interest isn't accruing yet. Listen to learn how to crush your money goals! We did it! After five years of painstakingly managing our budget, growing our income, and paying down $300,000 of debt, my husband and I reached a goal I thought would take us at least another decade. We hit our FIRE number. This means we have enough money in investments to become work-optional, according to the calculation traditionally used by the FIRE (Financial Independence, Relax Early) movement. For us, our FIRE number equates to $900,000, which will generate enough income to cover basic living expenses of about $3,000 per month. If you're working toward financial independence, you should know that you will get there if you stay committed to your goals and investing strategy—even if you mess up a few times along the way, like I did. You should also know what happens next. In this episode, I share four unexpected things my husband and I are doing now that we've hit our FIRE number. It's the last episode of the podcast!
