In Part 4 of CONTRA VII, Dimitri and Khalid begin exploring the musical origins and Shakespearean career arc of the East San Francisco Bay's most legendary quirked up white boys (and eventual Castle Bank victims) Creedence Clearwater Revival, including: the murky and arguably Islamic roots of blues music in the Mississippi Delta, growing up in the sleepy post-war SF suburb of El Cerrito, Tom and John Fogerty getting blues-pilled by the local black radio stations in Oakland, John getting constantly hit on by Christian Brothers at Catholic school, joining forces with schoolmates Stu Cook and Doug Clifford, becoming Tommy Fogerty and the Blue Velvets, signing with the offbeat dirtbag cawmedy jazz label Fantasy Records in 1963, being forcibly named “The Golliwogs” to ride the Bri'ish Invasion wave, John's unfortunate stint in the US Army Reserves from 1966-68, rebooting as Creedence Clearwater Revival during San Francisco's Summer of Love, John's deep hatred of the MK Silk Topper Grateful Dead scene, his even deeper hatred of LSD, Timothy Leary, and stoner culture, his insistence that they always play sober despite CCR's tactical appeal to the psychedelic crowd on “Suzie Q” and “I Put a Spell on You”, John's assumption of full Stalinist leadership over the band, his growing anxiety that there's “somethin' missing” in Doug's shuffle beat, and the construction of Fogerty's mythical bayou from the violent fever dream swamp of the Vietnam War, the political assassinations of 1968, San Francisco MK culture, and President Richard Nixon.

Swamp rock afficianados, this is your podcast!Despite forming in California, Creedence Clearwater Revival was known for their Louisiana sound often described as "swamp rock" or later as roots rock.  They tended towards an earlier rock sound during a time when much of their fellow performers were moving in a more psychedelic direction.  But CCR (as the band was known, or Creedence) would find prolific success in the time from 1969 to 1971 when they would produce 14 consecutive top 10 singles and five consecutive top 10 albums. The band featuring front man and multi instrumentalist John Fogerty, brother Tom Fogerty on rhythm guitar and backing vocals, Stu Cook on bass, and Doug Clifford on percussion got their start as a band playing rock standards and instrumentals in 1959 under the name "The Blue Velvets."  They changed their name to "the Golliwogs" in 1964, then became CCR in 1967.  The name Creedence Clearwater Revival comes from three sources - John Fogerty's friend Credence Newball, a beer commercial touting "clear water," and the word "revival" depicting the members' re-commitment to the band.Cosmo's Factory is the band's fifth studio album takes its title from the warehouse in Berkeley where the band practiced in early days.  Doug "Cosmo" Clifford called it "The Factory" because they practiced there almost daily.  This album went to number 1 on the Billboard 200 charts and remained there for nine weeks.  It is one of those albums that appears to be a "greatest hits" album rather than a studio release because of the number of very familiar songs originating on it.The group would be prolific, but short-lived.  Tom Fogerty left the group at the end of 1971 and the rest had an acrimonious falling out shortly thereafter.  But for a few years, CCR produced a gigantic body of work, despite never having a number 1 hit.Wayne takes us through this classic album of swamp rock for this week's podcast. Who'll Stop the RainOften considered a Viet Nam protest song, the inspiration for this track is actually Woodstock, where multitudes of music fans congregated in the rain to hear the music of the age.  It was released as a double A single along with "Travelin' Band," and went to number 2 on the American charts.Run Through the JungleAnother song mistakenly considered to be a Viet Nam protest (and often used that way in films), Fogerty wrote this about the proliferation of guns in the United States, comparing city streets to a jungle.  This was another double A single release, paired with "Up Around the Bend."  It has appeared in multiple films including "Air America," "Rudy," and "Tropic Thunder."Up Around the BendThis track is a more straightforward invitation to a gathering that is, as you might guess, up around the bend.  It went to number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and number 3 on the UK singles charts.  John Fogerty wrote this song, as he did most of the original CCR tracks.Travelin' BandThis song draws its inspiration from 1950's rock songs, particularly paying homage to the style of Little Richard.  The lyrics talk about a band on the road.  It's reference to "737 coming out of the sky" - a new passenger plane at the time the song was written - put the song on a list of inappropriate tracks in a post-9/11 memo by Clear Channel. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Main theme from the television series “Dark Shadows”A feature length horro film entitled "House of Dark Shadows" was released in 1970 based on the vampire soap opera.  STAFF PICKS:Tears of a Clown by Smokey Robinson & the MiraclesLynch's staff pick has upbeat music that belies the sad lyrics depicting a man who has to put on a happy front despite facing the loss of his love.  The track was originally recorded in 1966, but not released until 1970.  It topped both the UK charts and the US Billboard Hot 100.  Long Long Time by Linda RonstadtRob's staff pick may not be a rock song in the traditional sense, but it shows off the vocal capabilities of one of the leading female rock figures prior to her breakthrough as a soloist.  The song about a woman's undying love for a guy who will never be hers went to number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100.Ain't No Mountain High Enough by Diana RossBruce features a song written by Ashford and Simpson in 1966, and originally a hit for Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell who took it to number 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1967.  Diana Ross released this as a solo song with a reworked sound incorporating gospel elements with strings and horns.  It went to number 1 making it Ross's first number 1 solo hit.Vehicle by The Ides of MarchWayne presents a one-hit wonder out of Chicago with a funky sound and a great horns section.  The vocalist and guitarist for The Ides of March would later become a founding member of Survivor.  General Motors used this song extensively in national advertising, and it will tend to get you driving faster! NOVELTY TRACK:Chicken Strut by the MetersThis novelty song inspired a short-lived dance, and wraps up this week's podcast. We make a big tip of the hat to an institutional…who turns 77 years old this coming week. John Cameron Fogerty grew up in these parts, growing up in El Cerrito to a second grade teacher and linotype operator for the Berkeley Gazette. He was a part-time Army reservist who, after completing his gig in 1968, formed a band with brother Tom called The Golliwogs and then, eventually, Creedence Clearwater. A talented songwriter clearly influenced by the core elements of gospel, bluegrass, rhythm and blues, country, and (certainly) rock ‘n roll, John's catalog of music, his distinctive vocals, and driving melodies are immediately recognizable, if not for Doug Clifford's percussive direction, then for the rhythm and twang that took a Northern California ensemble sound into the mossy swamps and humid climes of the deeper South. Through a messy transition to his solo career to his late career recognition, John Fogerty is a legend and our show today takes some time to reflect…with music from contemporaries, solo efforts new and old, and most certainly a collection of Creedence classics. Tune in.

RockerMike and Rob discuss the history of Creedence Clearwater Revival also referred to as Creedence and CCR, were an American rock band which recorded and performed from 1967 to 1972. The band initially consisted of lead vocalist, lead guitarist, and primary songwriter John Fogerty; his brother, rhythm guitarist Tom Fogerty; bassist Stu Cook; and drummer Doug Clifford. These members had played together since 1959, first as the Blue Velvets and later as the Golliwogs. CCR's musical style encompassed roots rock, swamp rock, blues rock,Southern rock, and country rock.Despite their San Francisco Bay Area origin, the band played in a Southern rock style, with lyrics about bayous, catfish, the Mississippi River and other popular elements of Southern United States iconography. The band's songs rarely dealt with romantic love, concentrating instead on political and socially conscious lyrics about topics such as the Vietnam War.The band performed at the 1969 Woodstock festival in Upstate New York, and was the first major act signed to appear there. https://mobile.twitter.com/TheOfficialCCR?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor https://www.facebook.com/CCR?refsrc=https%3A%2F%2Fm.facebook.com%2FCCR&_rdr https://creedence-revisited.com/ https://open.spotify.com/artist/3IYUhFvPQItj6xySrBmZkd https://www.amazon.com/Chronicle-Greatest-Creedence-Clearwater-Revival/dp/B000000XB9 https://rockbandmerch.com/collections/creedence-clearwater-revival?gclid=Cj0KCQjwppSEBhCGARIsANIs4p7_LsNAwXciVSy-M5ryFnv34Ag06wTIt7Dczp1qlN7tDENDoTu7Q6waAlevEALw_wcB https://www.instagram.com/accounts/login/ https://music.apple.com/us/artist/creedence-clearwater-revival/2083606 https://www.iheart.com/artist/creedence-clearwater-revival-35051/ https://ccrstore.shop/ https://johnfogerty.com/ Please follow us on Youtube,Facebook,Instagram,Twitter,Patreon and at www.gettinglumpedup.com https://linktr.ee/RobRossi Get your T-shirt at https://www.prowrestlingtees.com/gettinglumpedup And https://www.bonfire.com/store/getting-lumped-up/ Subscribe to the channel and hit the like button --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rob-rossi/support https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/getting-lumped-up-with-rob-rossi/id1448899708 https://open.spotify.com/show/00ZWLZaYqQlJji1QSoEz7a https://www.patreon.com/Gettinglumpedup #creedenceclearwaterrevival #crochet #thecreative #crystals #creativephotography #peoplescreatives #creativelifehappylife #creative #cream #musicvideo #musicindustry #musicislife #musiclover #musician #musiclife #music #musicstudio #musicproducer #musicphotography --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rob-rossi/support

RARE & SCRATCHY ROCK 'N ROLL_129 – “ORIGINAL NAMES OF 30 FAMOUS ROCK & RHYTHM & BLUES GROUPS” Many of the greatest vocal groups and bands were known by different designations before they found fame using the names by which we know them now. Tracing those antecedent aliases is one of the most interesting and fun parts of rock and roll history. We’ll spotlight 30 of those acts on this episode. Along the way, we’ll identify the vocal groups and bands who used such pseudonyms as the Beat Brothers, Golliwogs, Little Boy Blue & The Blue Boys, The Parliaments, The Four Graduates, the High Numbers, Redwood, Wicked Lester, Shine, The Matadors, The Pigeons, Darrell & The Oxfords, Kenny & The Cadets, and Brave Belt, among others. One vocal group, in particular, set the record for the most stage names by a big-name act – 18 in all. And one family of record labels – Motown – was home to four celebrated sets of performers who parlayed their adopted appellations into solid gold.

John Fogerty had already picked up some popularity with his band The Golliwogs, but Uncle Sam came a-calling in 1966. In order to avoid being sent to Vietnam, he instead enlisted in the Army Reserves, where he served for a while until he was discharged honorably. In the days that followed the discharge, he wrote a song that he knew immediately would be a hit on the level of the bigger songs of the Tin Pan Alley days. And, given that other artists recorded the same song within a few months of its release, he was correct in that regard. The new owners of their label, Fantasy Records talked the band into changing their name to something a little less offensive in exchange for the opportunity to record a full-length album (rather than the singles they'd been making), and the band, not being fools, agreed immediately. The original name had come from Fantasy's previous owner, so they weren't really married to it anyway. Thus it was that The Golliwogs became Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Bayou Country their first album. Click here for a transcript of this show.

In November 2018, Ace of Cups released their self-titled debut. The album arrived more than 50 years after the band’s formation. With several tours and a second double album on the way, it’s clear the group has every intention of making up for lost time. The groups was an anomaly during its first go-round. The all-female rock quintet shared stages at legendary venues like the Fillmore with the likes of now legendary contemporaries like Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead. They shared a studio with John Fogerty’s pre-Creedence garage band, the Golliwogs. Ex-pat Jimi Hendrix told Melody Maker that the band was his favorite thing about the States. What sounded like a recipe for superstardom had fizzled by the early 70s. With the band reunited, singer and bassist Denise Kaufman joined us to discuss the band, her time with Ken Kesey’s Merry Pranksters and why the Kawaii-based yoga instructor still has hope for the future of humanity.

Guest Description by Mark Latham: These two stuck-up wankers virtue signal over the supposedly "racist" tradition of golliwogs. Let me get this straight - they're not even accurate depictions of black people and yet somehow they're "racist" because of how they depict black people? Another great example of consistency from the Left. Golliwogs are fine! Not one of them ever used memetic Twitter voodoo to incite a jihad or even once hurt my feelings. And I would know it if they had! My skin, while notoriously thick, has been described by more than one doctor as "singularly sensitive". You can have it all. Also, some more Leftist snowflake drivel: They'll have you believe that the welfare of several psychologically pulverised brown (ie: jihadist) children is somehow worth equal consideration to that of our shapely French friends. Has the sight of a child mistreated with the full weight of reactionary Western monstrosity ever made me pathetically cum my pants as I stood up to deliver a speech about how the spread of Middle Eastern food represents discrimination against the proud Australian culinary tradition of doing British food but shit? I don't think so! It was an ad for Dior standing up the back of the room that day, coaxing thin, acrid fluid from the wizened labyrinth of my seminal vesicles and creating a noticeable wet patch on the front of my half-price Roundboy Special suit. It's the Edict of Fontainebleu all over again and I for one will not lie down for the dragonnade! As if that weren't enough, watch these soy-chugging nongs pussyfoot around the headlines: Scott Morrison maybe masterminded this soft-cock spill bungle where the Silent Majority were robbed of their opportunity to have White Knight Peter Dutton come and solve all our problems with a flick of his discerning ivory wrist. These jokers boo-hoo over Morrison calling the putrid CFMEU photo stunt abuse, which it clearly is because these promising white colts deserve the chance to grow into beautiful racists without the influence of their so-called "fathers". They rightfully rag on Identity Left champion Elon Musk, who wants to build more turnstiles for filthy foreigners to jump probably. AND they weigh in on my defamation case, the boobs, the cretins, and they get it all wrong. It is NOT TRUE that I am a gleaming preposterous child, an extremely vulnerable tag of nerve-dense hysteria condensed into the terrible and shapeless form in which my dessicated, putrid brain now resides. Cancel these morons.

@highhorseradio on the Twitter for any feedback or topics that you'd like discussed... Know nothing know it all's discussing life's big issues with disturbing results... Society, History, Psychology, Sex, Race and Culture are merely starting points for this Fresh and Dangerous show... Fred Nation, J Dot, Andy Establishment and LinQ feature in this our latest episode *136 of the show that moves and goes where it grooves and flows, liberated syndication at it's finest and kindest, you be the judge and definitely don't budge.   Are golliwogs racist?, doll form, biscuit form, where do their roots lie?. It was British soldiers that occupied Egypt near the end of the 19th century. Egyptian workers wore w.o.g.s on the back of their arms, indicating that they were in fact, (working - on - government - services). JDot and LinQ share their first memories/experiences with racism. We talk relationship differences between children and their parents. The hottest 100 here in Australia is a celebration of music and time spent with the fam(ily). It happens every year on the 26th of January. But not anymore according to Triple J , as they say it should be referred to as "Invasion Day" (the panel do not endorse this). A brief history of Australia is brought up and dissected in our rude and crude kinda way, including the panelists view on immigration policies, which are very different and definitely not agreed on.   Everybody who has a feeling of being entitled, should be called on it says Andy Establishment. The word idiot comes from ancient Athens and referred to people that don't care about politics. Trumps comments directly after 9/11 were absolutely terrible and insensitive, ("looks like I have the tallest building now!") but does that really surprise anyone?. LinQ felt his most superior in China and wants to immigrant, thinks that China is the worlds common sense (nothing to do with his short ass feeling tall for the first time). McDonalds and Walmart are the worlds biggest employers, second only to the armed forces of the United States and China.   Apologies for LinQ's burps - not just tonight but in the history of our great unique cutting edge podcast. He's edgy and ahead of the curb in so many ways, but occasionally his arrogance and tunnel vision get the better of him. This episode caps of our biggest month of downloads in High Horse Radio history. So that's a huge positive wouldn't you say?!.   Download and subscribe to this awesome podcast @ libsyn.com + iTunes (@frednations, @andyestablish, @linQhighhorse, @jdotgater)
