I discuss the ongoing conflict in Gaza, emphasizing the failures of conventional approaches and the need for a new perspective. I critique the Palestinian leadership's historical rejections of statehood offers and highlights the role of Hamas in perpetuating violence. I also stress the importance of establishing a clear moral stance against jihadism, drawing parallels with the post-World War II de-Nazification efforts. Ultimately, I argue that without addressing the root causes of jihadism, peace in the Middle East remains unattainable. - Timestamps: 00:00 The Historical Context of Gaza's Conflict 03:29 The Role of Regional Players in Gaza's Future 06:25 Moral Clarity and the Fight Against Jihadism - This Episode Brought To You By… Shop For Everybody Use code SFE10 for 10% OFF
Terrorist activity in Central Asia traces its roots back to the Soviet era - but following the collapse of the USSR in the 1990s, suppressed religious movements evolved into underground Islamist networks, fuelling the rise of jihadist groups in the region. Today, Central Asia faces an increasingly complex terrorism landscape. In this episode of the podcast, Lucas Webber speaks to Bruce Pannier, a Central Asia Fellow at the Eurasia Program at the Foreign Policy Research Institute and a veteran journalist covering the region. Together, they explore the origins of jihadism in Central Asia, the rise of Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) there, and the potential impact of the Assad government's fall in Syria in 2024 on regional jihadist movements. We also hear about the role the internet has played for terrorist networks there.

On this Friday edition of Sid & Friends in the Morning, it's a new year for the NYPD, but the dysfunction within the department remains consistent, with now disgraced former NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey's home being raided earlier this week. It's a new year for the United States Congress as well, but the GOP lawmakers continue to fight over the same nonsense in 2025, threatening to vote current Speaker of the House Mike Johnson out of his speakership seat. In other news of the day, Jihadism is here and it is real, and Sid officially makes the cut on Roger Stone's "Best Dressed of 2024" list. This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute. So much for wishful thinking that a Syria liberated from the monstrous Bashir Assad regime would become a pluralistic democracy if only an al Qaeda veteran named Abu Mohammed al-Julani were fatuously transformed into a “moderate” politician and put in charge of the country. In recent days, his designated terrorist group, known as HTS, and its Turkish enablers have made clear that their intentions are very different, witness the torching of Christmas trees, the murderous destruction of a shrine holy to Alawites and genocidal attacks on Kurds – setting the stage for the same to be done to other minorities. Joe Biden has effectively greenlighted such crimes against humanity and invited worse by lifting the 10 million dollar bounty on al-Julani's head and beginning to provide funding to his regime. We must jettison this formula for far worse to come in Syria, and beyond. This is Frank Gaffney.

Econtalk Key Takeaways “It is not totally irrational to worry about society suddenly becoming fundamentally hostile to Jews, even in the West.” – Sam Harris In America, every year after September 11th, Jews have been a greater target of hate crime than any other group in American society, including Muslims and African Americans Islam expects conquest – this makes it fundamentally different than most other religions The central message of the Quran is not about love or compassion; instead, its message is that you should fear going to hell Islam is not a race; it is a set of ideasThe power of bad ideas is much more consequential than the power of bad people If the Palestinians laid down their arms, there would be peace in the Middle East; if the Jews laid down their arms, there would be genocide The fate of open societies is at stake today; it is not “just” the rise of Jew hatred The basis for hope: We are talking about ideas here, and people can change their minds Read the full notes @ podcastnotes.orgNeuroscientist and author Sam Harris of the podcast Making Sense talks with EconTalk's Russ Roberts about rising Jew-hatred in the West and what Harris sees as the dangers of radical Islam and Jihadism.

Five years after the fall of the so-called Islamic State caliphate in Iraq and Syria, the EU's anti-terrorism coordinator sees a more diffuse threat, coming from many different directions and spreading online. This is what Bartjan Wegter calls "mutant jihadism". With FRANCE 24's Armen Georgian, he discusses Afghanistan, IS-KP (Islamic State – Khorasan Province), and how the French authorities are trying to make the upcoming Olympic games secure – efforts that Wegter praises as "impressive". Wegter admits that more needs to be done to tackle what he calls "borderline content" online that might be inciting hatred and fuelling individuals' radicalisation. He also draws attention to new forms of terrorist financing such as cryptocurrencies – something that the EU and national authorities should keep a close eye on, he says.

In this week's episode, we investigate the term ‘White Jihad,' the seemingly paradoxical interaction between white supremacy and Jihadism online. We ask how this loose online community emerged, who it attracts, and what can be done to counter it. Join Archie Macfarlane as he speaks with Dr. Federico Borgonovo, a research-analyst at ITSTIME, the Italian Team for Security Terroristic Issues and Managing Emergencies, at the Catholic University of Sacred Heart, in Milan. You can read a transcript of this episode here. An important new study exposes Team Biden's reckless disregard for reality in the existential war being waged by Sharia-supremacists against our ally, Israel – and, ultimately, against us and the rest of Judeo-Christian civilization. It cites, for example, a claim by the faction Biden insists can be relied upon to run post-war Gaza and a new Palestinian state, that last year, “More than 1,500 military operations against the Israeli occupation were led by the Fatah Movement members and the [Palestinian Authorities'] Security Forces.” When the President sanctioned four Israeli West-Bank “settlers” yesterday for violence against Palestinians and their supporters, however, he made no mention of such “operations” by the very PA paramilitaries the U.S. is training and arming. By so doing, he is inviting more of those jihadist attacks – and very possibly an October 7th-style massacre in Judea and Samaria. This is Frank Gaffney.
Upon entering the White House, Joe Biden delisted the Sharia-supremacist group known as “Houthi rebels” as a U.S. designated terrorist organization. Legitimating dangerous, Iran-enabled jihadists engaged in frequent attacks on American allies was a symptom of the Obama-Biden Doctrine: namely, treat your enemies better than your friends. It guarantees you'll have more – and stronger – enemies, and far fewer friends. We're now reaping the whirlwind of this mad policy. Tens of billions of dollars still flowing to the Iranian mullahs in cash and sanctions relief are enriching, empowering and emboldening them and their masters in the Chinese Communist Party. That's produced Tehran-backed war on Israel and, increasingly, on merchant shipping vital to the world economy. America's assuming responsibility for protecting such shipping while precluding actions that would neutralize the Houthis and punish Iran is an invitation for more, and worse, perils to come. This is Frank Gaffney.

From the forgotten Silk Letter Movement, a plot led by Deoband clerics to overthrow English imperial rule, to modern jihadists who've joined the Islamic State and al-Qaeda, Indian terrorists have long taken inspiration from successful struggles overseas. Gaza could fire the imagination of a new generation of terrorists, and India should be cautious.
In this thought-provoking episode, Rob & Ruairi delve deep into the tumultuous relationship between the United States of America and Syria, shedding light on the profound damage inflicted upon the war-torn nation by its civil war. Join us as we explore just how responsible the United States is for this catastrophe inflicted on the Syrian people and their government. The Arab Spring, initially a movement for democratic reforms, quickly morphed into a brutal civil war in which a wide range of external powers, including the United States, seemed to be competing to find ways to make the conflict worse. Through careful analysis, we explore the motivations behind the American intervention and the consequences it brought forth. The sad truth is that the United States is vastly more responsible for this catastrophe than is recognized. We discuss the deployment of American troops and their role in the fight against ISIS, questioning the long-term consequences of such military interventions, and the extent to which out of control Jihadism was a US creation in the first place. Perhaps most importantly, we explore the ongoing economic ramifications of American actions in Syria. These sanctions imposed by the United States have destroyed Syria's economy, exacerbating the suffering of the Syrian people. Put simply, Syria will not be allowed to recover, no matter what the Arab League does, until the United States changes this murderous policy. - Patreon Website Books Twitter TikTok
Africa is the second largest continent in the world, both in land area and population. It has more than 1.2 billion people — most of them young and poor — living in 54 countries. If current demographic trends continue, Africa will account for a quarter of humanity by the middle of this century. In Africa, conflicts are more often within countries rather than between them. Sudan and Ethiopia are current examples.Today, al Qaeda and the Islamic State are active across Africa. So is the Wagner Group, a lawless private army loyal to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. And China's ruling Communist Party has become a neo-imperialist power on the continent, exploiting African peoples and resources.Joining host Cliff May to talk about Africa is Joshua Meservey. He's currently a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, where he focuses on African geopolitics, counterterrorism, and great power competition in Africa. He was previously a research fellow for Africa at the Heritage Foundation. He's also worked at the US Army Special Operations Command, for Church World Service based out of Nairobi, Kenya, and he was a Peace Corps volunteer in Zambia. And he's a member of FDD's National Security Network.

“The problem is that this idea that what we used to believe were inviolable, sacred rights, can be suspended because of an emergency then they're not sacred, then they're not inviolable, then they're basically temporary and they're not rights: they're permissions.”— Maajid NawazMaajid Nawaz is a UK-based counter-extremism activist, author and content producer. In this interview, we discuss his membership of a fundamentalist pan-Islam political group, imprisonment in Egypt, and returning to the UK to work on counter-extremism. We also discuss being forced to leave his position as a presenter on LBC.- - - - Maajid Nawaz experienced first-hand the rise of Islamic extremism through the 1990s. At the time terrorism was not viewed to be a major global issue: it was confined to specific pockets around the world or used by individuals expressing narrow ideological views. This was when Nawaz was a senior member of a political organisation pushing for the establishment of an Islamic caliphate. Then 9/11 happened, which brought the threat of Islamic terrorism sharply into focus. Nawaz and like-minded people were now perceived to be the enemy by a growing political alliance. Nawaz was in Egypt, arriving a day before 9/11. He was picked up and imprisoned for 4 years in Egypt's most notorious prison. He witnessed torture and was subject to a period in solitary confinement. Following pressure from Amnesty amongst others, Nawaz was eventually released and returned to the UK. Rather than turn to thoughts of revenge, Nawaz sort to break the cycle of violence. He renounced his Islamist past and then co-founded a counter-extremist foundation. He ended up advising leaders around the world, including UK Prime Minister David Cameron and US President George Bush.Nawaz is now a content producer seeking to cover a range of issues: politics, security and human rights, Jihadism, Nationalism, China's ill-treatment of Uighurs, and the Covid lockdowns. His dissenting views on the orthodoxy regarding vaccines led to him being forced to leave as a presenter on the talk radio station LBC and becoming an independent voice. Salafi-Jihadism has had a huge impact on the societies, policies, and security situations in MENA and abroad. But where did modern Jihadist groups come from, what do they look like today, and what impact has the "War on Terror" had on people living in Western states? To tell us about the movement as well as give thoughts on how current events like the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan has on the ability of transnational Jihadist organisation to regroup, is Thomas Hegghammer - a senior research fellow at the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment and the author of The Caravan: Abdallah Azzam and the Rise of Global Jihad.
