In a fragmented world that needs to fix deficits in peace, development and governance, China's visions, proposed by President Xi Jinping at the 19th G20 Summit, of building a just world of common development and promoting a fair and equitable global governance system are of great relevance to making the world a better place, according to analysts. The G20 Summit, hosted by Brazil in Rio de Janeiro on Monday and Tuesday, took place amid shifting geopolitical dynamics and economic uncertainty, providing an opportunity for world leaders to get together to discuss solutions to address urgent global challenges, including economic stagnation, trade disruptions, food security, reform of multilateral institutions and climate governance. As leader of the second-largest economy and the largest developing country in the world, Xi's attendance and his interactions with other leaders at the summit were in the spotlight. Addressing the summit, he outlined China's eight actions to support global development, including pursuing high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, implementing the Global Development Initiative, supporting international cooperation on poverty reduction and food security, and supporting the G20 in carrying out practical cooperation for the benefit of the Global South. He called for improving global economic, financial, trade, digital and ecological governance to build a world economy characterized by cooperation, stability, openness, innovation and eco-friendliness.Evandro Menezes de Carvalho, a professor of international law at Fluminense Federal University in Brazil, said that taking a systemic view of global governance, Xi highlighted key actions in each of the main areas of global governance in his speech. "China has already given concrete demonstrations of being a country committed to the development of a more inclusive international order. In addition, it has been very active in promoting green development with significant investment in technology and environmental protection," he said. The professor noted that global economic development depends on a balanced, stable financial and trade system that takes into account the needs of developing countries in order to promote a more inclusive international order, highlighting the importance of Xi's remarks on improving global digital and ecological governance with the Global South and developing countries involved. "Global digital governance and ecological governance, which are increasingly linked to each other, if well directed towards the common good, could contribute to opening new paths for the future for humanity as they increasingly exert influence in today's world." Under the Brazilian presidency, the Rio G20 Summit adopted the motto "Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet", focusing on three priority themes: energy transition, fair sustainable development (with an emphasis on combating hunger, poverty and inequality), and reform of multilateral institutions. China, standing at the forefront of the Global South, has been advocating for greater representation of developing countries in global governance to promote an international order that is truly democratic, inclusive and multilateral. From advocating the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence to proposing the construction of a new type of international relations featuring win-win cooperation, and building a community with a shared future for mankind, China's consistent goal has been to build a more equal and just world, ensuring that developing countries have a greater voice in global affairs, observers said.At the Rio G20 Summit, Xi urged the World Bank to carry out a shareholding review and the International Monetary Fund to carry out quota share realignment in line with the agreed time frame and road map in order to increase the voice and representation of developing countries. He said that China, alongside Brazil, South Africa and the African Union, is proposing an Initiative on International Cooperation in Open Science to help the Global South gain better access to global advances in science, technology and innovation. Anthony Moretti, an associate professor in the Communication and Organizational Leadership Department at Robert Morris University in the United States, said that Xi is spot on when he suggests that isolationism is not what the global community needs right now. This is especially true for the developing world, Moretti added.Mehmood Ul Hassan Khan, executive director of the Center for South Asia and International Studies in Islamabad, Pakistan, said that Xi has made proposals for an open, inclusive and non-discriminatory environment for international economic cooperation through a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization. His proposals support developing countries in better integrating into digital, smart and green development to bridge the North-South gap, and they constitute a holistic and comprehensive policy badly needed for economic recovery, poverty reduction and job creation, Khan said, adding they reflect the global need for complete transformation from isolation to integration, from Cold War mentality to international cooperation. As the Ukraine crisis and Palestine-Israel conflict remain protracted, Xi highlighted at the Rio G20 Summit that "global security governance is part and parcel of global governance". The G20 should support the UN and its Security Council in playing a greater role, and support all efforts conducive to the peaceful settlement of crises, he said. China and Brazil, together with some other Global South countries, have launched a group of "friends for peace" on the Ukraine crisis, with the goal of bringing together more voices for peace.Khan said that the proposal of the group of "friends for peace" is innovative and well-timed, which must be listened to and implemented for achieving peace in Ukraine and Palestine. Marcos Cordeiro Pires, a professor of international political economy at Sao Paulo State University, said that the China-proposed Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, Global Civilization Initiative and Belt and Road Initiative are becoming international public goods that offer a path to building actions that help overcome the immense challenges faced by humanity. These initiatives are a counterpoint to selfishness and unilateralism by pointing out that development is essential to overcoming hunger and poverty, that no country can guarantee its security at the expense of others, that peaceful coexistence between civilizations presupposes respect for the uniqueness of each culture, and, above all, that building infrastructure is one of the best ways to guarantee progress and address inequalities, Pires said. The Chinese president also urged G20 countries to "see each other's development as opportunities rather than challenges and view each other as partners rather than rivals", highlighting the need to observe the basic norms of international relations underpinned by the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and defend the international order based on international law. Xu Feibiao, a senior researcher and the director of the Center for BRICS and G20 Studies of China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, said that China, unlike traditional Western powers, remains committed to safeguarding a multilateral system with the UN at its core, following the path of peaceful development, and advocating for the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. It calls for a new type of international relations and upholds the principles of "extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits" in global governance, Xu said, adding these efforts and principles are gaining broader recognition and respect from countries all over the world, offering hope for the G20 to regain its relevance in global governance. The Rio G20 Summit adopted a leaders' declaration, with the G20 leaders reaffirming their strong commitment to multilateralism and pledging to reform the global governance system. The leaders pledged to work for a reinvigorated and strengthened multilateral system, rooted in the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and international law, with renewed institutions and a reformed governance that is more representative and effective, according to the declaration. They also pledged to reform the UN Security Council to align it with the realities and demands of the 21st century and make it more representative, inclusive and effective, the declaration said.

Tessa Szyszkowitz in conversation with Yair Hirschfeld IS PEACEFUL COEXISTENCE BETWEEN ISRAELIS AND PALESTINIANS POSSIBLE?Analysing past & future options for negotiations in the Middle East How does one of the central figures of the Oslo Peace Process look back on the attempt to create a Two-State-Solution for Israelis and Palestinians more than 30 years ago? In his new book “The Israeli-Palestinian Peace Process” the Israeli historian Yair Hirschfeld relives his Track-2-negotiations with Palestinian and Israeli politicians, which resulted in the Oslo Accord in 1993. Hirschfeld does not stop there. From the Holocaust to October 7th, he analyses causes and impact of continued Jewish trauma on the Middle East. And Hirschfeld examines the political setting both Israelis and Palestinians find themselves in today, with failed political leaderships seemingly unable to break out of the circle of violence. He then outlines lessons to learn for future peace negotiations. Was peace ever possible between Israelis and Palestinians? Yair Hirschfeld says: “We might need new ways to achieve it. But we should never give up.” Yair Hirschfeld is a lecturer at the University of Haifa in the Department of Middle Eastern History. He is the Director General of the Tel Aviv-based Economic Cooperation Foundation (ECF). He was a key architect of the Oslo Accords in 1993. Tessa Szyszkowitz is an Austrian journalist and author. A UK correspondent for Austrian and German publications such as Falter or Tagesspiegel, she curates Philoxenia at Kreiskyforum and she is a Distinguished Fellow of the Royal United Services Institute in London.

China, Zimbabwe sign agreements to deepen cooperation, cement tiesChina and Zimbabwe released a joint statement on Tuesday to intensify and upgrade their comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation and build a high-level community with a shared future as part of their efforts to strengthen ties. The statement came as President Xi Jinping rolled out the red carpet for visiting Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Tuesday. Mnangagwa is on a nine-day state visit to China, which started on Aug 29, and he will also attend the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation this week. The two presidents witnessed the signing of multiple documents on bilateral cooperation in areas such as Belt and Road cooperation, the Global Development Initiative and avocado exports to China.During their talks, Xi emphasized the deep-rooted traditional friendship between China and Zimbabwe, noting the significant progress in political mutual trust and fruitful cooperation between the two nations. He called on the two countries to build a "five-star ironclad" cooperation framework with pillars in politics, the economy and trade, security, culture and international coordination to foster a high-level China-Zimbabwe community with a shared future.China supports Zimbabwe in safeguarding its sovereignty, security and development interests, and opposes external interference and illegal sanctions, Xi said. The nation is willing to further align its development strategy with that of Zimbabwe, and expand mutually beneficial cooperation in areas such as investment, trade, infrastructure, energy and minerals, clean energy and the digital economy, to help Zimbabwe and Africa enhance their capacity for independent development, he added.Xi congratulated Zimbabwe on assuming the chairmanship of the Southern African Development Community, and said that China is willing to strengthen international coordination with Zimbabwe, uphold the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and work together to defend international fairness and justice. He reiterated China's commitment to viewing relations with African countries as a cornerstone of its foreign policy, saying that China supports African countries in pursuing an independent development path and Africa becoming a significant player in the development of global politics, the economy and civilization.Noting that FOCAC is the most important platform and mechanism for enhancing solidarity and cooperation between China and Africa, Xi expressed China's willingness to work with African countries to make the 2024 FOCAC Summit a milestone event in China-Africa relations in clarifying the direction and path for both sides to advance toward modernization.Mnangagwa spoke of his visit to the cities of Shaoshan, Xiangtan and Changsha in Hunan province, Shenzhen in Guangdong province and Nanjing in Jiangsu province before he headed to Beijing, and commended China's remarkable development achievements. He praised China's ongoing reforms unveiled at the third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in July, saying that the reform measures will not only further improve the well-being of the Chinese people, but also have a significant bearing on the future of the Global South and even humanity as a whole.China's assistance and cooperation have benefited the Zimbabwean people, creating new highlights in the friendship between Zimbabwe and China in the new era, he said.He said that Zimbabwe appreciates China's just stance on international affairs, and its constructive role in regional conflicts such as the Ukraine crisis and the Palestine-Israel conflict. He also reiterated his country's commitment to the one-China policy, and said that Zimbabwe is ready to continue working as a close friend of China in southern Africa.Sino-Nigerian relations elevated to comprehensive strategic partnershipPresident Xi Jinping called on China and Nigeria to enhance strategic mutual trust, better align development strategies and promote people-to-people exchanges as the two countries announced on Tuesday the elevation of their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership. The announcement was jointly made by Xi and Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, who is in Beijing for the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and a state visit.During their meeting at the Great Hall of the People, Xi said the two countries have always respected each other as equals and have pursued strength through unity and engaged in win-win cooperation since the establishment of diplomatic ties more than half a century ago.In recent years, a large number of exemplary cooperation projects with strategic importance have been implemented between China and Nigeria under the FOCAC framework, he said."I am willing to work together with Mr President to fully leverage the exemplary role of the China-Nigeria relationship and jointly promote new and greater development in relations between the two countries as well as between China and Africa," Xi told Tinubu.Nigeria is China's second-largest export market in Africa and is also a major investment destination and a major trading partner of China on the continent.Over the years, Chinese companies have constructed many signature projects in Nigeria, including the Lekki Deep Sea Port, the largest seaport in the country and one of the biggest in West Africa. As the two countries join hands to realize their respective modernization through high-quality cooperation, Xi stressed the necessity to promote integrated development between infrastructure, energy, mining and industries, and called for efforts to foster new growth points for cooperation in the digital economy, new energy and other areas. It is also hoped that Nigeria will ensure the safety of Chinese personnel and projects in the African country, he said.Xi said China supports Nigeria in combating terrorism, maintaining regional stability and playing a greater role in international and regional affairs. Furthermore, China will enhance multilateral coordination with Nigeria to jointly safeguard the interests of developing countries, he added.Noting that FOCAC is not only an effective mechanism for promoting China-Africa practical cooperation but also a banner of South-South cooperation, Xi said China is willing to take the summit as an opportunity to inject new momentum into the development of China-Africa relations in the new era.Tinubu said that deepening economic cooperation and developing the comprehensive strategic partnership between Nigeria and China are crucial for the future development of his country.Nigeria, which has the largest population in Africa, hopes to become China's largest trade and investment partner on the continent and welcomes more investment from Chinese companies, and also hopes to expand mutually beneficial cooperation in such areas as agriculture and manufacturing, he said. This will assist Nigeria and West Africa in their modernization efforts and effectively alleviate poverty, the Nigerian president said, adding that his country will provide a secure environment for achieving this objective.Tinubu also thanked China for providing important training opportunities for young people in Nigeria and expressed readiness to deepen people-to-people exchanges. After their talks, the two heads of state witnessed the signing of multiple cooperation documents related to the Belt and Road, applications of the Beidou Navigation Satellite System, peanut exports to China and other matters.

He tells us more about how he has established predator monitoring tools and non-lethal deterrent measures to ensure livestock and wildlife coexist safely. Lastly, we will hear from Paul Pebsworth, a primatologist who has worked on mitigating human-wildlife conflict between primates and humans in many parts of the world and is currently based in Texas. Paula's focus is to find solutions for humans and wild animals to coexist and also addresses the language and narratives policymakers, the media, researchers, conservationists etc should use while talking about human-wildlife conflicts. We sat down with former Asia-Pacific CEO of Ogilvy PR, Scott Kronick, who is indisputably the father of modern PR in China. Scott lived in China for 29 years and is easily one of the longest serving agency leaders, foreigner or Chinese, in the China ad business. What's it going to take for Chinese brands to go abroad? This is the question we asked Scott, who's been behind the effort to take many successful and large-scale brands outside of China. China used to be about cheap goods, but now it represents attributes largely unknown back when Scott first came to China. Scott is now a Senior Advisor for Ogilvy PR, as well as the author of the book, "The Lighter Side of China". He's also an Adjunct Professor at Beijing University. 1. The big moment that China brands came into the world (besides the Beijing 2008 Olympics): 2. Do China brands need to promote their country of origin? Is "Made in China" a good thing? 3. Should more Chinese brands on Amazon embrace brand campaigns to increase their premiumness? 4. Chinese brands fail abroad when they don't understand the nuances of the local markets 5. Peaceful Coexistence of China & the rest of the world: Business that helps people more productive is more apolitical 6. What are the consistent communications mistakes of China's going abroad? 7. Where can China & US find common ground? Healthcare, Climate & Sports? 8. We couldn't resist asking Scott about Eileen Gu 9. Scott's career advice for those interested in getting into the Chinese PR business 10. Scott's advice to his 25-year-old self. 11. A/B Test: Orange (not Red), David Ogilvy, Sir Martin & Mark Read

Sophie Richardson is the China Director at Human Rights Watch, a position she's held since 2006.She frequently testifies to parliaments around the world and is the author of China, Cambodia and the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, which examines Chinese foreign policy since the 1954 Geneva Conference. She speaks Mandarin, earned a doctorate from the University of Virginia and a BA from Oberlin College. Sophie joins Sophia Yan, NüVoices board member and Telegraph China correspondent, to discuss human rights in China, what it feels like to be sanctioned by the Chinese government, and how HRW keeps its staff healthy mentally and emotionally healthy given demanding work.
While society has instilled the belief that introverts and extroverts cannot coexist and live together peacefully, the truth is quite the opposite. Learning to take the time to understand each other's personalities and applying the skill of not judging and comparing to everyday life will bring us closer to a peaceful coexistence.
Matthew Ehret Investigative Journalist, Historian Matthew is a journalist and co-founder of the Rising Tide Foundation and Canadian Patriot Review. He has published scientific articles with 21st Century Science and Technology, and is a regular author on several political/cultural websites including Los Angeles Review of Books: China Channel, Strategic Culture, Off Guardian and The Duran. He has also authored three books from the series the Untold History of Canada. “Freedom? What’s freedom? I’m Canadian,” says investigative journalist Matthew Ehret. Canada is still in lockdown. “Canadians have the freedom to stay home.” How does Justin Trudeau compare to his father, Pierre Trudeau? Matthew Ehret compares a high school economics textbook from 1944 that’s “grounded in the understanding of values” to the economics textbooks of today that are “so detached from common sense and reality.” The market is so volatile that someone only has to say something, and the value of your investment crashes, Case in point, what Elon Musk said that affected Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Do China and Russia want to risk a nuclear war? Is China just playing along with the narrative of global warming? Whatever one thinks about the origin of the coronavirus, it’s for sure “we’re being played.” The official narrative is “bunk;” the reality is there’s “a push for depopulation.” We must get into the mindset of these global engineers who promote oligarchy. What part did Henry Kissinger and the Trilateral Commission play in the politics of China? When did China start pushing back against Kissinger’s opposition to nation-states and support of Malthusianism? What was Kissinger’s Nietzschean perspective? How did his belief in Darwinism affect his foreign policy? How did Kissinger’s 1970 visit to China promote the Gang of Four until Mao Zedong died in 1976? What was behind Pierre Trudeau’s 1973 visit to China? What was China’s Century of Humiliation? What did the British Empire and foreign powers do to “accelerate entropy”? China’s aim is to turn debt into value at home and in Africa with their enormous natural resources, whereas the U.S. emphasis is on installing 200 bioweapons labs around the world. Why does China regard the IMF as a “parasitical system that rejects the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence.” China files more parents than the U.S., and is a world leader in high-speed rail networks. How did Donald Trump initiate the reconstruction of America? Is Biden continuing along the same path or is he following the dictates of the New World Order? How did Aristotle’s 4th Century book, “Politics” influence today’s system of globalism? How does it compare to Platonism’s Mandate of Heaven? Are people born “blank slates” or are they a “reflection of the entire universe”? Sun Yat-sen was a Christian. How were his Three Principles of the People influenced by Abraham Lincoln? What was William Gilpin’s connection to Abraham Lincoln and the creation of greenbacks? What was Gilpin’s futuristic concept of a Cosmopolitan Railway hoping to accomplish for the economic linking of the U.S. with China? How did Gilpin’s vision of a global system of railroads influence the Chinese Revolution of 1911 and the current Belt and Road Initiative? Why did Wall Street want the interrelationship of nation-states to fail? What did the City of London hope to gain from World War I? Why was Ben Franklin considered “The Prometheus of America”? Why was he interested in China and Confucianism? What are the roots of our New Age of War? Why does George Soros want to “chop up China”? How is he a threat to the U.S. and the Belt and Road Initiative? How is China’s Central Bank different from the U.S. Central Bank? How is the Glass–Steagall Act involved? China wants to have a Confucian Revival, and the U.S. wants to know how to kill baby-boomers.

Following a Path of Peaceful Development and Working to Build a Global Community of Shared FutureThe Communist Party of China strives for both the wellbeing of the Chinese people and human progress. To make new and greater contributions for humanity is our Party's abiding mission.China will continue to hold high the banner of peace, development, cooperation, and mutual benefit and uphold its fundamental foreign policy goal of preserving world peace and promoting common development. China remains firm in its commitment to strengthening friendship and cooperation with other countries on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, and to forging a new form of international relations featuring mutual respect, fairness, justice, and win-win cooperation. The world is undergoing major developments, transformation, and adjustment, but peace and development remain the call of our day. The trends of global multi-polarity, economic globalization, IT application, and cultural diversity are surging forward; changes in the global governance system and the international order are speeding up; countries are becoming increasingly interconnected and interdependent; relative international forces are becoming more balanced; and peace and development remain irreversible trends. And yet, as a world we face growing uncertainties and destabilizing factors. Global economic growth lacks energy, the gap between rich and poor continues to widen; flashpoints arise often in some regions; and unconventional security threats like terrorism, cyber-insecurity, major infectious diseases, and climate change continue to spread. As human beings we have many common challenges to face. Our world is full of both hope and challenges. We should not give up on our dreams because the reality around us is too complicated; we should not stop pursuing our ideals because they seem out of our reach. No country can address alone the many challenges facing humanity; no country can afford to retreat into self-isolation.We call on the people of all countries to work together to build a global community of shared future, to build an open, inclusive, clean, and beautiful world that enjoys lasting peace, universal security, and common prosperity. We should respect each other, discuss issues as equals, resolutely reject the Cold War mentality and power politics, and take a new approach to developing state-to-state relations with communication, not confrontation, and with partnership, not alliance. We should commit to settling disputes through dialogue and resolving differences through discussion, coordinate responses to traditional and non-traditional threats, and oppose terrorism in all its forms. We should stick together through thick and thin, facilitate free trade and investment, and make economic globalization more open, inclusive, and balanced so that its benefits are shared by all. We should respect the diversity of civilizations. In handling relations among civilizations, let us replace estrangement with exchange, clashes with mutual learning, and superiority with coexistence. We should be good friends to the environment, cooperate to tackle climate change, and protect our planet for the sake of human survival.China remains firm in pursuing an independent foreign policy of peace. We respect the right of the people of all countries to choose their own development path. We endeavor to uphold international fairness and justice, and oppose acts that impose one's will on others or interfere in the internal affairs of others as well as the practice of the strong bullying the weak.China will never pursue development at the expense of others interests, but nor will China ever give up its legitimate rights and interests. No one should expect us to tolerate anything that undermines our interests. China pursues a national defense policy that is in nature defensive. China's development does not pose a threat to any other country. No matter what stage of development it reaches, China will never seek hegemony or engage in expansion.China has actively developed global partnerships and expanded the convergence of interests with other countries. China will promote coordination and cooperation with other major countries and work to build a framework for major-country relations featuring overall stability and balanced development. China will deepen relations with its neighbors in accordance with the principle of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit, and inclusiveness and the policy of forging friendship and partnership with our neighbors. Guided by the principle of upholding justice while pursuing shared interests and the principle of sincerity, real results, affinity, and good faith, China will work to strengthen solidarity and cooperation with other developing countries. We will strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the political parties and organizations of other countries, and encourage people's congresses, CPPCC committees, the military, local governments, and people's organizations to engage in exchanges with other countries.China adheres to the fundamental national policy of opening up and pursues development with its doors open wide. China will actively promote international cooperation through the Belt and Road Initiative. In doing so, we hope to achieve policy, infrastructure, trade, financial and people-to-people connectivity and thus build a new platform for international cooperation to create new drivers of shared development.China will increase assistance to other developing countries, especially the least developed countries, and do its part to reduce the North-South development gap. China will support multilateral trade regimes and work to facilitate the establishment of free trade areas and build an open world economy.China follows the principle of achieving shared growth through discussion and collaboration in engaging in global governance. China stands for democracy in international relations and the equality of all countries, big or small, strong or weak, rich or poor. China support the United Nations in playing an active role in international affairs, and supports the efforts of other developing countries to increase their representation and strengthen their voice in international affairs. China will continue to play its part as a major and responsible country, take an active part in reforming and developing the global governance system, and keep contributing Chinese wisdom and strength to global governance.Comrades,The future of the world rests in the hands of the people of all countries; the future of humanity hinges on the choices they make. We, the Chinese, are ready to work with the people of all other countries to build a global community of shared future and create a bright tomorrow for all of us.

Rayek Rizek is Author of the book The Anteater and the Jaguar, former mayor of Neve Shalom/Wahat Assalam, and owner of Café Ahlan in that community. Born in 1955 in Nazareth to a Palestinian Christian family, he has been living in the Jewish-Palestinian village of Wahat Assalam (Arabic)/Neve Shalom (Hebrew)/ Oasis of Peace (English) since 1984. The community is unique because it is the only community in Israel where Palestinians and Jews chose to live together consciously. The founder Father Bruno Hussar (1911-1996), a Nobel Prize nominee, believed that Jews, Christians and Muslims could share the country in peaceful coexistence. He did not have a predetermined formula for how that might be achieved, but he founded the community to explore how it might happen. Father Bruno's original request to establish a community, in 1976, was not approved by the state, but by 1984 when Rayek and his wife Dyana came to the site, there were five couples and ten single people living there (It was eventually recognised by the state in 1988). Bruno encouraged people not to worry how the community was to be managed and how their children should be educated. He believed answers to those questions would arise in time, and so it has proved. There are mixed neighbourhoods in other Israeli towns, but in Neve Shalom/Wahat Assalam, members of the community chose to live together. And they choose to talk with one another in order to understand their differences and needs. That is not to say that agreement has been reached on every issue, and the regular influx of new arrivals means that the debate will always be ongoing. After finishing High School, Rayek went to the USA in 1975. He returned to Nazareth in 1981 and a year later met his wife Dyana. It was she who introduced him to Wahat Assalam/Neve Shalom. They joined the community in 1984 and have been there ever since. Rayek studied for a Masters Degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution at Bradford University 2000-2001 and subsequently made a start on a PhD at Coventry – he didn't complete it because of a shortage of funds. At Coventry, Professor Andrew Rigby (@CTPSR_Coventry) encouraged him to read about other intentional/alternative communities. It helped him put his own community in context. Rayek came to appreciate Father Bruno more during his studies. Bruno never took the role of guru, even though he was much older than the other community members, but chose instead to learn alongside them about living in peace. This meant that the community was self-sustaining when Bruno passed away in 1996 - many such communities fail after the death of the founder, when there are arguments about the intention of the founder. (At the time of Bruno's passing, the community had 32 families – half Jewish, half Palestinian, all Israeli citizens – a regional bilingual school, a School of Peace, a Spiritual Centre, and a guest house of 40 rooms.) In 2017 Rayek completed a book ‘The Anteater and the Jaguar' that tells the story of the Oasis of Peace and what he has learnt there that might contribute to the resolution of the conflict in the Holy Land. The title was inspired by a story that featured in an episode of the David Attenborough series ‘Life on Earth.' The story is told by a tribe in the Amazon and relates how a Jaguar and Anteater were found locked in a deadly embrace, with the jaguar's jaw around the anteater's neck and the anteater's claws embedded in the big cat's flanks. For Rayek it articulates the complexity of the situation in Israel/Palestine. Rayek is trilingual, so can follow the evening news on Hebrew, Arabic and English speaking television. He finds it depressing but revealing how alleged ‘experts' from both sides are stuck with their own positions. In the book he presents possibilities for Jews and Palestinians to liberate themselves from “the deadly hug of the two animals.” He wanted the book to be positive and balanced, and not another addition to the...
CHEMICAL WEAPONS moved from the battlefield to the farm field after World War II. 1080 is a WMD-Weapon of Mass Destruction! SODIUM FLUOROACETATE: Sodium monofluoroacetate (or fluoroacetate), has the chemical formula FCH2COO-Na+, and is a highly toxic compound primarily used as a pesticide known commercially as Compound 1080. 1080 FLUOROACETATE IS EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS—1080 is classed by the World Health Organisation and the EPA as an extremely hazardous pesticide - CLASS 1A ECOTOXIN POISON. 1080 is a proven endocrine disrupter and impacts upon the body’s major organs. Just one teaspoon could kill 100 people. The only sane and effective method of balancing ecosystems is to use the components of the living system to manage itself! Because of its isolated location New Zealand is the ideal environment for a countrywide program of RESTORATIVE ECOLOGY to show the world that ecosystem management can ONLY be done by using nature's methods. The Permaculture Principle "The Problem IS the Solution!" points to the fact that issue with the overpopulation of "invasive species" is purely caused by the absence of apex predators. The New Zealand owls and raptors are too "small." The only viable method of establishing a self-sustaining, self-balancing ecosystem is to introduce one or more apex predators capable of keeping the pest species in check. The ultimate aim of Restorative Ecology is to set up ecosystems harmonize themselves without any human intervention. Thus by introducing one or more owls from Australia to manage the indigenous Australian possums this would keep the population under control, while still providing non-poisoned meat and fur for the trappers...thus serving an elite couture industry. A countrywide program to get school children to make owl houses for the Powerful Owl and/or the Barn Owl would get the next generation interested in ethical ecology and the health of their nation. In every way...environmentally, physical and mental health, fiscally, morally, ethically, scientifically and socially the 1080 campaign is destroying New Zealand via the criminal use of a grotesque weapon of war! SHORT LIST OF TALKING POINTS WHAT IS IT:—Sodium MonoFluoroAcetate is a CLASS 1A POISON first synthesized 1896 by Belgian Frederic Swartz—Hitler was told it was too dangerous to use as a chemical weapon—1940-48 Monsanto buys patent and manufacturers it—The Wigley family business Tull Chemical took over patent and plant from Monsanto in 1955—New Zealand buys 90% of their production—America under Nixon banned 1080 in 1972 due to it killing the bald eagles. New Zealand started using 1080 for pest control by 1957. WORST POSSIBLE POISON: 1080 is called a CLASS 1A POISON because it is a chemical weapon that causes extreme suffering and death as it interferes with the energy production in the cells and halts aerobic respiration. 3% is metabolized to fluorocitrate which messes with the enzyme that run the Krebs cycle. Death is slow, gruesome and inhumane. It was used by Saddam Hussein against his political enemies. 1080 use in any country is not only terrorism against its human and non-human inhabitants. CHEMICAL WARFARE: The NZ Government is engaged in a full on war against introduced "pests" which they say compete with and kill the native birds and other fauna. Their campaigns "Zero Invasive Predators" or "Predator Free 2050" speak to their intentions to keep at this chemical warfare—the end result of which will be the loss of the majority of native species and the brain damaging and disease of the human population. Even trace amounts damage mitochondrial DNA...In Whanganui where there is a 1080 factory "Orillion" and landfill for 1080 waste there are reports of retarded children, miscarriages, stillbirths and congenital malformations to the children of pregnant Maori women following aerial drops. BAITS: The 1080 poison is mixed with cereal and green die and made into baits, which are aerial dropped from helicopters over the native bush, streams and water catchment. The baits kill everything either directly or by secondary poisoning as carnivores eat the insects, birds and herbivores that die. A farmer who lost 570 ewes following an accidental 1080 drop on his farm said that 6 months later sheep were still dying. Around 4,000 tonnes of 1080 poison baits per year are dropped on New Zealand, enough to kill 60 million people, & the quantity increases yearly. 100 tonnes of those spoiled and expired baits are buried in landfills around the country. CLEAN GREEN: The Clean Green image of New Zealand is plainly under attack, as no other country is so fiercely killing both introduced and native species alike. Hikers report that after a drop the forests resound with the screams of dying animals and then they are silent...not even bird song. There is also the danger that sublethal traces of 1080 or its metabolites will end up in produce that NZ exports. ALL ANIMALS SENTIENT BEINGS: In 2015 New Zealand also publicly declared that they recognized that all animals are sentient beings, and then they indiscriminately continue to kill them in the most extreme torturous way possible. Revealing a deep seated hypocrisy and performative contradiction. CHEMICAL WEAPONS moved from the battlefield to the farm field after World War II. Chemical ecology and chemical agriculture are oxymorons. Systemic, nonselective, ecosystem-wide violent and inhumane poisoning of an ecosystem can never claim to be rational, sane or backed by “good science.” “Everything is out of kilter in the ecosystems where it is used!” It creates “imbalance” in the numbers of living creatures in an ecosystem and is highly destructive to the life-giving quality of the soil and water. YOU CAN'T BALANCE AN ECOSYSTEM WITH CHEMICALS WITHOUT KILLING EVERYTHING IN IT...including the forest and the microbiome itself. The restorative ecological way of reducing invasive species numbers is not to kill them but use them as a resource to feed the Apex predators. Thus supporting the ecosystem to balance itself. NEED FOR LARGER RAPTORS: New Zealand is going to have to introduce at least one more apex predator species. The assisted migration of the Powerful Owl, Rufus Owl or Barn Owl from Australia and the distribution of specifically designed OWL HOUSES is the ideal solution to the 1080 debacle. This is a permanent self-sustaining solution which comes at very little cost to the taxpayer, with NO POISONING of the land and water. LARGER APEX PREDATOR: As PEST species are used as food for both native species and STRATEGIC AMBASSADOR SPECIES brought in from neighboring countries to balance out the food chain. These ambassadors are generally a slightly larger apex predator introduced when the native apex predators are either too small or too few to control population numbers of the “pest” species. NATIVE POISONS FOR BAIT STATIONS: There must be a worldwide ban on open-ecosystem dropping of poisons, that is just common sense, however that is not to say poisons couldn’t be used in special pest-specific bait stations using natural biological poisons which are not ecosystemic. Scientists have found a natural poison that tests show can kill rats in 5 to 10 minutes. The New Zealand native plant TUTU (Coriaria arborea) is poisonous to stock, but doesn’t lead to secondary poisoning, this could be used in cereal baits for rats and possums. GRAND SOLAR MINIMUM climate extremes and crop loss means that the Native Bush will become a vital resource to keep people alive and healthy as society is disrupted by the chaos of epic scale floods, mudslides, fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, droughts, volcanic activity and famine. MAKE LOVE NOT WAR: Need to change thinking from combat to waste not want not and compassionate conservation. The four guiding principles of compassionate conservation used in the 21th Century are: 1. First Do No harm, 2. Individuals Matter, 3. Value All Wildlife, and 4. Peaceful Coexistence via Trophic Level Management ensuring that all levels of the trophic cascade are well balanced so the so called problem of “invasive species” are NOT a problem but a solution!!!! CALL FOR INTERNATIONAL HELP? BAN 1080 HOMESTAY NETWORK: To encourage an international environmental legal movement, the New Zealand anti-1080 movement could set up a free homestay network system for visiting international environmental protection organizations, environmental scientists, ecology expert witnesses, lawyers, activists, restorative ecologists, doctors, researchers and PhD students interested in doing a thesis on 1080 use in New Zealand. The BAN 1080 Homestay Network especially encourages experts in natural ecosystem balancing and restoration, biodiversity, terraforming, forest revival and permaculture designers who work on a countrywide and global scale. This Homestay Network will further the efforts to establish New Zealand as a showcase for the most advanced ecological principles, environmental right practices and Natural Justice. The project would lead to the promotion of eco-education, ecotourism, eco-education and research, besides improving local livelihood and promoting ecoarchology and cultural values. The most important and popular career will soon be as a permecologist OR permaterraformer ie: restorative planetary management. Herbert Marcuse said in his book One Dimensional Man, “The facile historical parallel with the barbarians threatening the empire of civilization prejudges the issue, the second period of barbarism may well be the continued empire of civilization itself. ****************** 1080 SOLUTIONS ~ ADVANCED RESTORATIVE ECOLOGICAL MANAGEMENT Sodium MonoFluoroAcetate was first synthesized in 1896 as a chemical weapon. It is a Class 1a Poison that causes extreme suffering and death as it interferes with the energy production or aerobic respiration of cells, ie: the Krebs cycle. Death by 1080 is slow, gruesome and inhumane. The chemical weapon aerial drops of the super poison 1080 throughout the New Zealand forests result in human death, mutation, cancer, miscarriages and stillbirths, plus the violent death of farm animals and pets. You simply cannot have a thriving environment if you are indiscriminately killing off the entire food chain down to the microbiome of the soil, and including the very native species you are trying to save. Thus the New Zealand government will ultimately come to the conclusion that open ecosystem poisoning is not only an ineffective pest control method, but is pernicious, calamitous and maleficent. It is only a matter of time before the New Zealand conservation methods are going to have to emerge from the dark ages and a new age of regenerative, restorative, and balancing methods of ecosystem management are adopted. We have come too far in heart and mind to descend to such a degree of barbarity and cruelty. Conventional industrial and governmental environmental methods have relied on dilution and dissipation for dealing with noxious byproducts of their activities. The progressive sciences however have proven that both dilution and biological degradation are faulty and inadequate to the task, when considering the profound subtlety, omni-dispersive and ubiquity of nature and natural systems. Bioaccumulation of noxious substances up an ecosystem food web ensures that dilution and dissipation doesn’t work. Both government and industry can no longer continue on with their dirty business as usual when we now know about the hado effect of the imprinted water from Emoto, morphogenetic fields from Rupert Sheldrake, the fructification and spiral flow of water via the work of Schauberger, water and the life of the cell Gerald Pollack, quantum consciousness of Stuart Hameroff and that Healing is Voltage of Dr. Jerry Tennant, and the electromagnetic nature of existence, plus Bruce Lipton and epigenetics. All such advances in science point to the fact that we must change our methods of industry and governance and heal our relationship to the planet. Indeed we must change ourselves! Biodegradation of 1080 is a joke as it kills the very micro-organisms that are said to biodegrade it. Even if it does degrade it still spreads the element fluoride over the entire country...and if they keep it up, it will continue forever until everything is dead, because poisonous control of ecological systems doesn’t work to control “pest species” in an open ecosystem. Rather ecosystems must be made proportionally symmetrical by synergistically balancing the tropic layers within the ecosystem. If they are unbalanced then human intervention requires that new species of apex predators (or other ecosystem partners) be introduced and established to balance out the predator-to-prey numbers. This is the only morally intelligent answer to the burgeoning numbers of so-called “invasive species,” (possums, rats, stoats, deer and wild pigs). We just have to “balance” the food web, not exterminate it, thus it is obvious that omnicidal poisoning is contrary to effective conservation and ecology. Advanced naturalistic, restorative ecology makes up for the problems of past human intervention and allows ecosystems to balance themselves, which results in maintaining both balance and the self-sustaining mechanism of balance. Besides ecosystem trophic layer management, the only other pest control method necessary would be changing our ideological perspective from “pest management” to “resource management.” The Department of Conservation should be concerned with ecosystem resource utilization and these outlawed “non-indigenous pests'' are in fact highly nutritious FOOD for the native food chain. Plus they represent a back up survival food resource for humans during the upcoming Grand Solar Minimum Global Freeze. The hollow fiber of Possum fur provides extra warmth and lite weight to fabrics. Thus one of the most advanced and economically viable fabrics during the global chill of the Grand Solar Minimum will be high-tech clothing made from merino and possum hair. A NZ Grand Solar Minimum cold weather survival clothing industry for the global market would provide million$ and new right-livelihood jobs, while displacing those few criminal profiteering politicians, corporations and pilots who are presently terrorizing the nation and condemning their own souls to everlasting hell. The alleged problem of “invasive species” is no longer a problem but a solution via Trophic Level Management ensuring that all levels of the trophic cascade are permanently self-balancing. In which these non-native nuisance species are used as food for both native species and strategic ambassador species brought in from neighboring countries to balance out the food chain. These ambassadors are generally a slightly larger apex predator introduced when the native apex predators are either too small or too few to control the “pest” species population numbers. New Zealand is in need of larger raptors and is going to have to introduce at least one more apex predator species to fill the top of the bush food chain. The assisted migration of the Powerful Owl, Rufus Owl or Barn Owl from Australia and the distribution of specifically designed OWL HOUSES is the ideal solution to the 1080 debacle. This is a permanent self-sustaining solution which comes at very little cost to the tax payer, with NO POISONING of the land and water. Given the right components an ecosystem will take care of itself.Instead of teaching the kids to become psychopathic killers of helpless animals the schoolkids could be put to work building the raptor nesting boxes and tracking their installation in a national grid throughout the country. These bird houses must be made of natural materials, built to last and erected at the ideal height in the canopy for each particular species of owl. Considering the Grand Solar Minimum climate upheaval and the catastrophic natural disasters which will be decimating wildlife populations for the next 30-70 years, compassionate ecology in association with the introduction of strategic ambassador species is the ideal method of self-sustaining ecosystem management - in a world thrown into chaos by epic scale floods, mudslides, fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, droughts and volcanic activity. Thousands of species will be on the move anyway due to shifting weather systems and loss of appropriate habitat, thus it is up to us “enlightened human stewards” to assist their migrations in ways that serve them and the existing trophic cascades. The restorative ecological way of reducing invasive species numbers is not to kill them but use them as a resource to feed the Apex predators. Thus supporting the ecosystem to balance itself. The New Zealand government has much more urgent responsibilities than the ruinously poisoning of the country, making it uninhabitable for beast, bird and human alike. Establishing ecological homeostasis of organisms in harmonious connection with their surroundings requires working with nature instead of against it. This Win:Win Ecology is an infinitely more intelligent, economical, safe and humane way of going about conservation in that it supports the health of the entire ecosystem and environment (including humans) and enhances the strength and stability of the global gene pool of valuable species. The four guiding principles of compassionate conservation used in the 21th Century are: 1. First Do No harm, 2. Individuals Matter, 3. Value All Wildlife, and 4. Peaceful Coexistence. “Every time you try and improve on Nature by going against it you damage yourself, for Nature is your very being.” Anthony Demello Intervention with a Class 1A super ecotoxin can obviously only bring insidious, dubious and ruinous results. The more poison they drop and longer this goes on, the greater will be the disastrous effects for the entire nation of New Zealand. Rather than a futile all-out war against nature, it is obvious that ecosystems can only be rectified and self-regulated using the methods of Nature herself. A restorative ecological management program must be undertaken in New Zealand, not just so that our “exports will be clean” but so that we can save the heart and soul of the nation. Now is the time to evolve beyond corpo consciousness to more advanced and intelligent, Nature compliant methods of conservation, ecology and agriculture, for the repercussions of industrial barbarism are undermining the very foundations of civilization and our capacity to be human. Towards that end, together we can imagine, experiment and manifest this advanced, innovative naturalistic emergent ecology that uses uncommon sense to rectify and redeem our human relationship to the earth, to the betterment of all and with harm to none. Thereby this restorative ecological renaissance speaks to the deepest of our inherent values and sensibilities, reconciling the fact that human beings are a small but crucial part of a vastly and intricately connected system of living and non-living things. There is a contagious psycho-spiritual disease of the human soul, a parasite of the mind, that is currently manifesting itself in the form of unprecedented conflicts and crises on a global scale. This collective psychosis or mental virus -- which Native Americans have called wetiko -- covertly operates through the unconscious blind spots in the human psyche, rendering us oblivious to our own madness and compelling us to act against our own best interests. Wetiko distorts our perceptions by stealth and subterfuge, acting through us while simultaneously remaining hidden. Unconstrained by conventional laws of time and space, this 'bug' in the system deceives us by working with the projective tendencies of our mind to appear external to and other than ourselves. Thus, the conflicts and crises which threaten the collapse of political, social and economic systems, and perhaps even of the biosphere itself, are nothing less than a revelation of our own internal darkness, the side of our nature that we all too often deny.

Although recent decades have brought with them many critiques of international development projects worldwide, Sophal Ear is especially well positioned to have written a book addressing the successes and failures of foreign donor assistance to countries emerging from long periods of violent conflict. A Cambodian trained in political science in the United States who also spent time working at the World Bank, Ear brings a no-nonsense approach to Aid Dependence in Cambodia: How Foreign Assistance Undermines Democracy (Columbia University Press, 2013). Yet, this book is also informed by his personal experiences and reflects his aspirations for himself and his family, as well as for his country of birth. Beginning in the early 1990s with the United Nations' transitional authority and concentrating on the 2000s onwards, Ear asks: has foreign aid made Cambodia's government worse? How can evidence of rapid economic growth be reconciled with the country's patently inefficient and corrupt public institutions? And how might things be done differently? Drawing on a range of data from primary and secondary sources, his answers invite the reader to be more sensitive both to the particulars of Cambodia and to the larger questions with which he is engaged. The book's case studies of how the garment sector succeeds in overcoming state capture where others fail, top-down responses to avian flu, and efforts of donors to subsidize courageous yet constantly threatened civil society groups in the face of persistent authoritarian rule both illuminate and inform. Described as “an important book on the perverse effects of development aid on governance” (James Robinson, Harvard University), and one that is “both passionate and level-headed” (Michael Doyle, Columbia University), Aid Dependence in Cambodia is a “refreshing and badly needed effort at teasing out the relationship between governance and aid” (Sophie Richardson, author of China, Cambodia, and the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence), in Cambodia, and in general.

Microsoft dipped its toe into retail waters this month by opening its first company store as a way to showcase the latest and greatest in PCs Zunes and Xbox consoles. But computer companies aren't the only manufacturers moving into the retail space says Wharton marketing professor David Bell. Whether it's handbags from Coach shoes from Nike or suits from Ralph Lauren consumers increasingly have the choice to buy products either at stores operated by manufacturers or from independent retailers. Bell recently co-authored a research paper looking into competition between company stores and independent retailers in the same market. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Associating Scripture with the big problems of life. The grandeur of civilization does not fulfill the needs of man’s heart. Genocide, intolerance, and an aversion to peaceful coexistence were commanded by God during the conquest and settlement period. Great truths from the Mount Sinai covenant-breaking event. To submit to God, people must have a circumcised heart. It does not come naturally. For sinful people to abide in fellowship with God, there must be an intercessor. Holy war, in the Old Testament, is a preview of the wrath of God at the final end of world history. Questions and answers.
