In this episode of Psyche Podcast, I sit down with Dr. Sinan Richards to explore his brilliant article “The Logician of Madness: Fanon's Lacan.” Our conversation dives into the deep intellectual currents connecting Frantz Fanon and Jacques Lacan—two thinkers often treated as distant but who, as Sinan argues, share a surprisingly intimate lineage.We trace Fanon's early psychiatric influences at Saint-Alban under François Tosquelles, the Catalan psychiatrist whose fusion of psychoanalysis, surrealism, and social activism helped form the basis for institutional psychotherapy. From there, we follow how Tosquelles' reading of Lacan's fertile moments of delirium and psychogenesis evolved into Fanon's own radical idea of sociogenesis—the notion that the colonial order itself produces mental illness.Sinan also illuminates the feedback loop between these two towering figures: how Lacan's early emphasis on the social helped shape Fanon's thought, and how Fanon, in turn, may have anticipated the late Lacanian critique of the symbolic order as a kind of psychic prison. İstanbul doğumlu Sinan Selen'in Anayasayı Koruma Teşkilatı'nın başkanlığına gelmesinin tarihi ve sembolik bir önemi var. İlk kez göçmen kökenli bir kişi, Almanya'da güvenlik ve iç istihbarattan sorumlu bir devlet kurumunun en üst yönetimini üstlendi. 2019'dan bu yana aynı teşkilatta başkan yardımcısı olarak görev yapan Sinan Selen, uluslararası terörizm konusunda yetkin bir bürokrat olarak biliniyor. Köln Üniversitesi'nde hukuk öğrenimi gören Selen, 2000 yılında Federal Emniyet Teşkilatı'nda (BKA) çalışmaya başladı. Sinan Gölhan, Founder and CEO of GelTech, describes the characteristics and applications for hydrogels, which are bio-friendly, super-absorbent materials similar to natural tissue. In cancer treatments, hydrogels offer a way to deliver chemotherapy drugs directly to a tumor, which can significantly increase the accuracy and efficacy of the drug. GelTech has developed a robotic instrument to streamline the time-consuming testing process for new hydrogel treatments, automating repetitive actions, reducing inconsistencies, and enabling 24/7 testing capabilities. Sinan explains, "You could think of hydrogels like sponges. They're super absorbent, bio-friendly materials that are made of water. For this reason, scientists like myself essentially consider them the next best thing to natural tissue. Just like our own bodies, they're mostly made up of water. They have great applications in drug delivery, implant cosmetics, all these modern hydrogel face masks, and other types of substances." "I worked in hydrogel research for many years after seeing my mother and both my grandmothers go through chemotherapy treatments. I became motivated to make these treatments more effective, smarter, more targeted, and hydrogel-like. I just realized the main limitation is that to even make one of these treatments, it costs the company around a billion dollars over 10 years to figure out if this hydrogel is even going to work. And most of this was due to manual testing. It's scientists doing the same tests over and over again. It's very tedious, takes a long time, and it's very expensive to get a scientist to do this all day, every day. After feeling like a robot during the same test over and over again, I said, ‘I want to build a robot that automates this.' (01:08) As we step into Sultan Döner Kebab and Baklava on 6th Street in downtown Pittsburgh, owner Sinan Camozu moves with practiced precision as he operates a specialized machine imported from Turkey—one of a kind in our region. From it emerges impossibly thin sheets of phyllo dough, translucent enough to see your hand through, destined to become his extraordinary baklava.(07:43) "Nobody does this other than us," Sinan explains with justified pride. While most restaurants use frozen phyllo, Sinan creates his from scratch in a temperature and humidity-controlled room. The results yield pastries with a remarkable puffiness and delicacy that simply can't be achieved with mass-produced ingredients. The vividly green pistachios nestled within come directly from his wife Fatma's family farm in Turkey, where they tend hundreds of trees.A commitment to authenticity extends throughout the menu. The restaurant's namesake döner (meaning "spinning" in Turkish) features house-marinated meats being stacked and slow-roasted on vertical spits. Even the pita bread receives special attention, baked fresh twice daily rather than just once in the morning.Sinan came to America in 2009 simply to improve his English. "I wanted to explain my foods when I'm cooking to my guests," he shares. What was meant to be a one-year stay evolved into a permanent move and, eventually, the realization of an entrepreneurial dream—opening during the challenging days of the pandemic.Now, with a growing reputation among downtown diners, cultural trust visitors, and sports fans crossing the Clemente Bridge, Sinan has his sights set on expansion. His goal?
