In Episode 6, Barbara speaks with New York-based artist Josh Kline. Using video, sculpture, photography and design, Josh creates immersive installations to question how emerging technologies are changing human life in the 21st century. His work has been shown at the Whitney Museum of American Art; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the Museum of Modern Art; and at many other museums and galleries around the world.
Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for August 24, 2024 is: jeremiad jair-uh-MYE-ud noun Jeremiad refers to a long cautionary or angry rant about something. It can also refer to a similarly prolonged lamentation, or expression of great sorrow or deep sadness. // His jeremiad about trivial problems with the campsite didn't go over well with his friends. See the entry > Examples: “One of the most exciting exhibitions now on view is Josh Kline's ‘Project for a New American Century' at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Kline uses video, sculpture and installation to explore the social, political and environmental crises we are facing. ... But Kline's work transcends the jeremiad and grapples with the persistence of beauty as a basic adaptive tool. And unlike any other artist I've encountered recently, he works simultaneously in the utopian and dystopian mode.” — Philip Kennicott, The Washington Post, 8 June 2023 Did you know? Jeremiah was a Jewish prophet, who lived from about 650 to 570 B.C. and spent his days lambasting the Hebrews for their false worship and social injustice and denouncing the king for his selfishness, materialism, and inequities. When not calling on his people to quit their wicked ways, he was lamenting his own lot; a portion of the biblical Book of Jeremiah is devoted to his "confessions," a series of lamentations on the hardships endured by a prophet with an unpopular message. Nowadays, English speakers use Jeremiah for a pessimistic person and jeremiad for the way these Jeremiahs carry on. The word jeremiad was borrowed from the French, who coined it as jérémiade.
The debut of the Speedway eatery Borage in June was one of the hottest local restaurant launches in recent memory, covered by most of the major media outlets in the Indianapolis market—including IBJ. Its co-creators—Josh Kline and Zoe Taylor—had won considerable acclaim as chefs for nationally lauded Milktooth in Fletcher Place. The concept for Borage was unique, combining a restaurant, a bakery and a market in one L-shaped building. And Taylor and Kline wanted to make a point of providing fair compensation for employees, guaranteeing at least $20 an hour. IBJ's Dave Lindquist outlined their plans—and the investment from a local real estate developer that made the project possible—in a story that ran on June 7. This edition of the IBJ Podcast follows up on how the business is shaking out after the June 12 grand opening. Zoe Taylor brings us up to date on what she and Kline have learned in the last six weeks about what's working and what has needed tweaking. As Taylor readily admits, running the financial side of a restaurant doesn't come easy to them, so perhaps their biggest challenge has been learning how to budget and make the business sustainable. Borage hasn't been profitable right out of the gate, and Taylor and Kline realize the timeline for profitability for a small independent restaurant typically stretches many months. For the time being, they're opting not to take salaries. The IBJ Podcast is brought to you by Taft.

For this episode we are back in the conservation lab, visiting with Carol Mancusi-Ungaro, Melva Bucksbaum Associate Director for Conservation and Research at the Whitney Museum of American Art. If you were to visit the Whitney today and see the lab and the department that Carol leads, you might find it hard to believe that none of it existed back when she joined the Whitney. In 2001 Carol not only became the museum's first director of conservation, but also its first staff conservator. In our chat we hear all about the incredible work that Carol has done over the past 20+ years at the Whitney, but the story goes much further back, prior to arriving at the Whitney, Carol spent a prior 20+ stint as the first conservator at the Menil Collection in Houston. Having originally trained and studied art that was centuries old, at the Menil Carol suddenly found herself dealing with modern and contemporary art and all the special and unique challenges that emerge when a conservator is faced with art where the paint has barley just dried. Carol found that talking directly to artists and their collaborators about the practical and technical aspects of their work was crucial in her work as a conservator — long before this was a common thing for conservators to do. This interview practice was eventually formalized and became the Artist Documentation Program, generating hours upon hours of footage of Carol and her former colleagues chatting with artists like Ann Hamilton, Ed Ruscha, Sarah Sze, Josh Kline, just to name a few. Today artist interviews have become a central part of conservation practice, so I was very excited to sit down with Carol, to interview the interviewer and hear what she has learned over decades as a leader the field of conservation.Links from the conversation with Carol> Artist Documentation Project: https://adp.menil.org/> The Whitney Replication Committee: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/01/11/the-custodians-onward-and-upward-with-the-arts-ben-lernerGet access to exlusive content - join us on Patreon!> https://patreon.com/artobsolescenceJoin the conversation:https://www.instagram.com/artobsolescence/Support artistsArt and Obsolescence is a non-profit podcast, sponsored by the New York Foundation for the Arts, and we are committed to equitably supporting artists that come on the show. Does the Bible condone Killing? Critics say that the Jews commited genocide in the Promised Land when the killed all the Canaanites. And what about Christian crusaders? Didn't they kill a lot of people during the Crusades in the name of God? And what about Islam? They have Jihads, holy wars, and kill in the name of Allah. Then Nazis killed millions of Jews in the name of no god, Atheism. Dr Josh Kline joins Henry to discuss killing in the Bible, and throughout world history, with the apparent contradiction to the commandment: thou shalt not kill. I love the Tennessee Titans. My teeth are little and blue from cooking up the good stuff with Mike Mularkey. Demarco Murray and Derrick Henry, these jorts don't bleed. Kendall Lamm, Josh Kline, Quinton Spain, it don't matter baby, we're running the outside zone. Marcus Mariota v. Denver spurned the glorious rise of Ryan Tannehill play action. Mike Vrable's nipple piercings. Randy Bullock's teenis. Jadeveon Clowney, Jonathan Joseph, Dylan Cole, Kendall Lamm, MyCole Pruitt, David Quessenberry, Ben Jones, and all the others who started in Houston, and arrived in Nashville, to start a country cover band. A team that takes chances, wears jerseys that are two colors of blue jeans, knows their scheme, finds the archetypes to run it, and plays football in a bizarre and beautiful way. Look, I know you hate the Tennessee Titans. They took the Houston Oilers away from you. The namesake, all those torturous memories, placed in a UHaul and left in the basement of a western wear. Leave all that be for a hour. Open up your heart. Because the Tennessee Titans have something the Houston Texans don't have, but are trying to build, and that's a culture. Live, laugh, listen, and learn more about it. On this episode of Battle Red Radio, Will Lomas of Titansized.com and the No Nonsense Podcast, joins Matt Weston to review the Texans win over the Titans, and discuss what makes the Titans work. Topics include: Todd Downing's playcalling, DRENCHED Mike Vrabel, the Desmond King and Dontrelle Hilliard revenge games, the plan for a Titans playoff run, if Ryan Tannehill can handle the added responsibility, the cult of TITAN UP, Tennessee's outside zone game, loving Ben Jones, and of course, your beautiful and wonderful listener questions. (00:00) How has the pandemic affected bartering? (04:01) What is your distinction between items that are essential, nonessential, and junk? (06:16) What would the world look like if there was no such thing as money, which has a vice-like grip on the material world; that is, what would the world look like if it ran strictly on barter? (07:02) What is the history of bartering? (07:26) What is the “mutual coincidence of wants”? (08:11) What is “Object A”? (13:44) Bartering has been around forever, but seems to have fallen out of favor in recent times—why? While stuck indoors during the pandemic, items we want — and sometimes need — are harder to locate. Web retailers offer a quick fix, but what if we need online tutoring, IT help, or athletic coaching? And what if we could offer our own goods and services in return? Should the Vikings start Ezra Cleveland at left tackle from the beginning? The Climbing The Pocket Network is starting a new feature called Quick Shots. The hope is to have those quick strike, short videos and podcasts that talk about some of the latest issues and topics surrounding your Minnesota Vikings. We hope to answer a question of the day, or at least get you thinking about one. Dave, from Good Morning Gjallarhorn addresses the question. A big proponent of starting him. Brian O’Neill started his first season and never looked back. Dave brings evidence as provided by friend of the show, Mike Renner from PFF. Back in early March, Mike gave his opinion on Ezra Cleveland’s play and performance at the NFL Combine. You can catch Mike’s show at https://youtu.be/vv-FiE49gsA There are basically 4 options the Vikings could consider. Option 1: Start Riley Reiff at LT and put Cleveland at LG. Option 2: Start Cleveland at LT and slide Reiff into LG. Option 3: Groom Cleveland as the swing tackle, a spot held by Rashod Hill. Finnally, option 4: completely red-shirt Cleveland and let him just learn in practice all season. Plus, those options include left guard, but do you see someone else starting there, and what about the right side? Will Dru Samia earn a spot, does Josh Kline get re-signed, Aviante Collins get to compete, or even Pat Elflein moving to the right side? Which option do you want? It's Week 7 and our Minnesota Vikings are preparing for their final divisional road game. They head to Detroit to try to win their first divisional game after losing in Green Bay and Chicago. A tough one but thankfully, they're heating up. Danielle Hunter, Everson Griffen, Eric Kendricks, Anthony Barr, Mackensie Alexander and Anthony Harris are ALL making plays for a Vikings defense that's starting to consistently display and elite form. The kicking game with Dan Bailey and the rest of the Special Teams issues looks solve. Crossing our fingers here. Kirk Cousins looks great, taking his play to a new level. That doesn't mean Kirk can do it all, but the Vikings can go far if he keeps it up with all the versatility at his fingertips. Gary Kubiak and Kevin Stefanski have all the weapons clicking. They can use Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, Dalvin Cook, Alex Mattison, Kyle Rudolph and Irv Smith Jr. with confidence. So what makes the most sense for Detroit? This is a Dalvin Cook game. Maybe Irv Smith Jr. can break out too. Quick injury updates: Riley Reiff and Ben Gedeon should be monitored this week. Josh Kline will hopefully be back for Week 7 after missing the game against Philadelphia. Other Good Games: Saints at Bears Ravens at Seahawks Eagles at Cowboys But the main event is Minnesota at Detroit. Need the corner backs to show up for this one! Skol Vikes. Vikings vs Giants… Good morning Horners! Here is your Good Morning Gjallarhorn Preview Show. The game is being played at US Bank Stadium, home of the most influential fans in the NFL. The guys talk about the relative even overall matchup of the Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles, and how important the fans in the stands will be to get inside the head of Carson Wentz and help the vaunted Mike Zimmer defense. Looking at the Eagles, their defensive front 7 is brutal against the run, #1 versus it in fact so far this 2019 season. However, they are ranked poorly against the pass. Like Drew says, “it doesn’t take a genius to see how to attack it” but it does depend on good Kirk Cousins showing up today and not bad Kirk Cousins. With the best wide receiver duo in the league with Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs, that should be easy. Throw in passes to Dalvin Cook in open space, Irv Smith Jr, Kyle Rudolph and Olabisi “Bisi” Johnson, and you have the makings of taking the top off the Eagles defense. The key will be for Cousins to gain confidence early, probably with quick passes to slow the pass rush. The O-line, missing Josh Kline, will have to step up their play too to help with that. The Eagles have scored a lot of points so far on their way to a 3-2 record. The Vikings D has held teams to just a 14 point average. The Vikes’ defense is good. They thrive off of the home fans too, so be loud! The only question Dave had was, “when will Mike Hughes replace Xavier Rhodes?” That engendered interesting conversation. What is your answer? The show wraps up with your Minnesota Vikings history trivia, the Eagles edition. Drew comes up with some great questions and Ted tries to answer them. Talk of Chuck Foreman, Fran Tarkenton, Wade Wilson, and Anthony Carter are just a few legends discussed, along with all those good games against the Eagles. Vikings vs Giants… Good morning Horners! What a great way to start the week! Your Minnesota Vikings traveled to MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands of NJ to defeat soundly the New York Giants 28-10.In a very aggressive play calling day on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball, the Vikes did what they should for the most part, and as Ted said, “scored 28 points the hard way.” Two touchdowns, four field goals, and a safety combined to make the game pleasurable to watch. Starting with the the offense, Kirk Cousins had a very good day going 22/27 with 2 TD throws and 306 yards, Adam Thielen catching both of those TDs in his 130 yard effort. Dalvin Cook got back into his high production gear again due to the offensive line probably having their best day yet. What a visible difference Josh Kline made after returning from a concussion suffered two weeks ago. He helped lead a good blocking effort that contributed to Cousins only being sacked 3 times [at east one of those holding onto the ball too long], and the running game producing 211 yards. That is 517 yards of O on the day. That wins you ball games. Pat Shurmur and the Giants did their best and there is hope for the organization where Danny Jones led some impressive field covering drives, but just fell short the Viking defense stiffened near the red zone. The D was led by outstanding performances from Anthony Barr, Danielle Hunter, Eric Kendricks, and Harrison Smith as usual. Even Ifeadi Odenigbo got into the fun getting an impressive sack. It was a good day for just about everyone. Drew was pleased but noted between the 20’s the defense is the definition of “bend but not break.” Your Good Morning Gjallarhorn host, Dave, Ted and Drew were all smiles. They expect the fanbase to be smiling too after this one. We would wonder if you’re not. If not, why? Tell us what you thought in the comments. There's five count 'em FIVE big games in the NFL this weekend, and all four NFC North teams will be going at it. The Green Bay Packers play the Philadelphia Eagles in a game we hope ends in a tie. The Dallas Cowboys play the New Orleans Saints so we can cry about Teddy Bridgewater on Sunday Night. The Detroit Lions host the Kansas City Chiefs and reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes. The New England Patriots travel to upstate New York to Play the 3-0 Buffalo Bills. Our Minnesota Vikings play the Chicago Bears in a huge divisional clash. This week presents a huge opportunity for our Vikes to move up in the NFC standings. And they're healthy for it, after getting back Pat Elflein and Mike Hughes Week 3. Anthony Barr and Mackensie Alexander could be back too. Josh Kline was the only Viking to miss Wednesday practice due his concussion. Chad Beebe got hurt, but the Vikings brought back Marcus Sherels or Laquon Treadwell to replace him. Maybe Jordan Matthews would have been better? On offense, Irv Smith Jr, Kirk Cousins and Brian O'Neill are all streaking. We've gotta love how O'Neill is developing, even though he's got a tough match-up coming up against Khalil Mack. We're not sure yet about Garrett Bradbury, and we're hoping Akiem Hicks doesn't play. On defense, the more Sack Daddy the better. Throw in Danielle Hunter too. They've got to lead the way to victory against Charles Leno. And you know what? Can we please get some more Eric Wilson? Let him chase down Tarik Cohen and David Montgomery. Minnesota has a huge opportunity to strike back in the NFC North. 3-1 or 2-2 will look very different early on. All they need is their best players to STEP UP. Learn more about your ad choices. Will Trubisky prove his doubters wrong, or was he helped tremendously from a great defense in 2018? The AFC South season preview begins with a look at the Tennessee Titans. Tom Gower of Football Outsiders, and author of the Titans chapter of the 2019 Football Outsiders Almanac, stops by the studio to discuss Derrick Henry’s breakout 2018 season and if it will continue in 2019, what happened to the Titans’ offense under Matt LaFleur, if they will miss starting guards Josh Kline and Kevin Pamphile, what Marcus Mariota’s future may hold, and if the defense can be above average in 2019. Of all the newest additions in Eagan right now: Garrett Bradbury, Josh Kline, Irv Smith Jr...Gary Kubiak should be the newcomer that Vikings fans are most excited to see. Kubiak brings plenty of experience, and therefore plenty of examples for what he’ll bring to Minnesota’s offense. In this episode @Flipmazzi looks at Kubiak’s recent past and finds players who Kirk Cousins, Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, Kyle Rudolph, Irv Smith Jr. and Dalvin Cook can clone for 2019. What type of season’s can we expect our skill players to have? Who are the men who have done similar things for Kubiak in the past. Gary Kubiak produced top ten offenses with Joe Flacco, Matt Schaub, Justin Forsett, Owen Daniels, Joel Dreesen, Kevin Walter, Jacoby Jones etc. Vikings fans need to realize the wave of offensive performance he’s about to bring to Minnesota. Good morning Horners! We thought we put out a special episode today, partly to commemorate 50 years ago, and mainly to discuss that rookies report to camp on Monday. 50 years ago today Neil Armstrong was the first man to step on the moon, also 50 years ago the Vikings entered season in which they won the NFL championship. We are going to start hearing and reading stories about the young crop of rookies, that report to camp Monday and will hopefully yield even better results than the team 50 years ago. Ed Brodmarkle of the Skoldiers Podcast joined Dave and Ted on this happy adventure. Discussions ensued over what stories do we expect to see in what Ted calls, "propaganda week?". There will be stories of course over our early draft choices, like how Garrett Bradbury is the second coming of Mick Tinglhoff, Irv Smith Jr and Alexander Mattison should make a difference, along with Dru Samia maybe winning the starting job from Josh Kline similar to how Brian O'Neill did last year, and never giving it back up. We talked about some of the rookie performances we expect, how after a summer of digesting the playbook, they hopefully wouldn't have lost much knowledge, and how having the pads on should help. We ended the show talking again about that 1969 Minnesota Vikings team, and how Joe Kapp was the villain in Super Bowl III. Ted told us of how his dad, Mr. Don Glover, had a theory that after watching the best football team and season ever played, that Joe, fighting with the Vikings over a salary and contract dispute, may have thrown the game. We all miss Don Glover, and I can just imagine him now railing as he told the story. Good morning, my name is Co.Die and prepare to suffer through terribly somber Minnesota news.
*Marcus Sherels is off to New Orleans; Judd & Coller appreciate the veteran returner *Does Kubiak need to smooth things over with the Vikings offense? *Gus Frerotte on the QB bracket & being a backup with the Vikings *How difficult is the NFC North going to be in 2019? *How does Josh Kline fit in with the Vikings' new scheme?
Good morning Horners! The old men got back together to discuss the Minnesota Vikings effort so far in free agency. The show, due to its recording date, does not include last night signing of free-agent guard Josh Kline, but does everybody else. Video Edition Starting out with the re-findings of CJ Ham, Mat Wile, Dan Bailey, and of course Anthony Barr and his sensitive stomach. The team did also tender Anthony Harris and Rashod Hill. The team also got the 2017 band back together resigning Shamar Stephen who spent a year away with the Seattle Seahawks. The biggest loss so far, being with Sheldon Richardson. We wish the big man well. We take a funnier look at what has transpired, because why not? There is humor to be found everywhere so we try to take advantage of it. We acknowledge the absolute master skills of the Vikings Wizard, Rob Brzezinski. Without him, the team would be a whole lot worse shape. We finished the show with a rapid-fire section guaranteed to have you amazed. Like, subscribe, and ring that damn bell! Then shout SKOL! As always, enjoy the watch! Learn more about your ad choices. Josh Kline is the starting Offensive Guard for the Tennessee Titans. Josh is a major part of the resurgence of the Titans and helping them make the playoffs last season. Josh recently signed a 4-year contract extension for $26 million. Josh has been down a long road with a lot of ups and downs along the way. This includes going undrafted in the 2013 NFL Draft. He then decided to sign with the New England Patriots to learn from the best. He spent 3 seasons with the Patriots including time on and off the practice squad, being cut/released a few times and winning a Super Bowl. Josh is an example of hard work and determination, and taking advantage of the opportunity when it presents itself. He has learned a lot along the way from his experiences and some legends of the NFL including Bill Belichick and Tom Brady.
Former Kent State and current NFL Super Bowl Champion Josh Kline called in for a phone interview. The boys discuss the NBA and NHL playoffs, as well as the Indians and predict what the Browns will do in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Crossroads - the Columbia DSL @ the Film Society of Lincoln Center
The Columbia University School of the Arts' Digital Storytelling Lab has a new monthly podcast entitled Crossroads. A collaboration with the Film Society of Lincoln Center, Crossroads is recorded in front a live audience at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Auditorium. The monthly podcast is a mixture of talks, interviews, fireside chats and lab project updates that explore new forms and functions of storytelling. Our first episode was recorded earlier this year in front of a live audience at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. Hosted by storytelling pioneer Lance Weiler, Director of the Columbia Digital Storytelling Lab, and Frank Rose, author of The Art of Immersion and Senior Fellow at Columbia University School of the Arts, the evening included a brief presentation on the “Digital Dozen” followed by two roundtable discussions inspired by its selections. Rose leads a conversation on journalism in the digital age with Adam Moss, Editor in Chief of New York, and Bill Wasik, deputy editor of The New York Times Magazine and author of And Then There's This. Both publications were honored in the Digital Dozen, New York for its National Magazine Award-winning interactive narrative “This Is the Story of One Block in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn” and the Times Magazine for its pioneering virtual reality report on the global refugee crisis, “The Displaced.” Lauren Cornell, Curator and Associate Director, Technology Initiatives at the New Museum and Co-curator of its highly successful 2015 Triennial, and Zach Kaplan, Director of the digital art organization Rhizome, a New Museum affiliate, then join Rose for a discussion of art and technology sparked by “Freedom,” an installation by Josh Kline that was commissioned for the Triennial and chosen by the Lab as one of its Digital Dozen.
