Today, I'm grateful to be speaking with Ian Woolford, the head of money and cash at the Reserve Bank of NZ.Central Bank Digital Currency, branded as 'digital cash' by the RBNZ, has the potential to give the banking scene the boot up the backside we desperately need. Concerns exist, absolutely, especially over the long term. A responsible and trustworthy RBNZ is the at the base-layer of our financial system. Those with too much, or too little testosterone may wish to quibble about the exact lengths of a property cycle, but the relevant thing is that the property cycle is slower than other asset classes. This affords the everyday investor an opportunity to jump on board at more optimal times than others. Join our live webinar as we delve into the intriguing world of Berkshire Hathaway's AGM. We'll explore Buffett and Munger's "elephant hunting," their massive cash reserves, and their colossal stake in Apple. As my 'illegitimate grandparents,' they've always played by their own rules, defying convention by avoiding dividends and expressing their distrust of banks. We'll also discuss how Buffett is future-proofing his empire. Don't miss this chance to understand the strategies of these rule-breaking financial titans.___________________News of the Money-World! When things aren't quite right in the world, and in the world of investing in particular, it's quite helpful to be able to talk about it.Fund managers, advisers, regulators—actually, pretty much the entire industry—have no incentive to sound the alarm bell. Further, anyone who does sound the alarm could cause harm just as badly as someone who doesn't. Property and equity markets may not have priced in the reality that interest rates could stay elevated for longer, or even rise. What this means is that the 'value' of all we own could go down further. In addition, and possibly more concerning, is the fact that as interest rates rise, the system itself is at risk.___________________News of the Money-World! Too much regulation and innovation is snuffed out - too little, and people lose money. Still, when it's central planners and incumbents who ultimately are driving the push towards MORE regulation....well forgive my cynism.Personally, I want to be certain that in some parts of the playground, when investing, things are transparent and I get what's advertised on the tin. In other areas, especially those that are new - well we should let the fools be separated by their money no? It's this activity that brings change, which ultimately leads to better outcomes for consumers.___________________News of the Money-World! New to the story around SVG, Silvergate, and Signature, then check out this article!Worrying about a bank run is not advisable, especially considering how well positioned they are now. New Zealand banks fared well in 2008 and from what I hear, they sound super profitable. As an investor, continual market awareness is a small price to pay for insurance against uncertain times though. If you have faith that in the long term, a traditional approach to investing is a prudent strategy (and that's a pretty safe bet btw!) this really should cause you no concern whatsoever. Having said that, many local commentators often remain silent on a risk we all quietly worry about. There's a blind spot everyday investors have as a result: No one talks about the risk of systemic failure of the banking system. It's not a profitable concern for one's own career in this field, but I believe we should be framing a diversification discussion using old and new, alternative forms of decentralised money. For this episode we are back in the conservation lab, visiting with Carol Mancusi-Ungaro, Melva Bucksbaum Associate Director for Conservation and Research at the Whitney Museum of American Art. If you were to visit the Whitney today and see the lab and the department that Carol leads, you might find it hard to believe that none of it existed back when she joined the Whitney. In 2001 Carol not only became the museum's first director of conservation, but also its first staff conservator. In our chat we hear all about the incredible work that Carol has done over the past 20+ years at the Whitney, but the story goes much further back, prior to arriving at the Whitney, Carol spent a prior 20+ stint as the first conservator at the Menil Collection in Houston. Having originally trained and studied art that was centuries old, at the Menil Carol suddenly found herself dealing with modern and contemporary art and all the special and unique challenges that emerge when a conservator is faced with art where the paint has barley just dried. Carol found that talking directly to artists and their collaborators about the practical and technical aspects of their work was crucial in her work as a conservator — long before this was a common thing for conservators to do. This interview practice was eventually formalized and became the Artist Documentation Program, generating hours upon hours of footage of Carol and her former colleagues chatting with artists like Ann Hamilton, Ed Ruscha, Sarah Sze, Josh Kline, just to name a few. Today artist interviews have become a central part of conservation practice, so I was very excited to sit down with Carol, to interview the interviewer and hear what she has learned over decades as a leader the field of conservation.Links from the conversation with Carol> Artist Documentation Project: https://adp.menil.org/> The Whitney Replication Committee: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/01/11/the-custodians-onward-and-upward-with-the-arts-ben-lernerGet access to exlusive content - join us on Patreon!> https://patreon.com/artobsolescenceJoin the conversation:https://www.instagram.com/artobsolescence/Support artistsArt and Obsolescence is a non-profit podcast, sponsored by the New York Foundation for the Arts, and we are committed to equitably supporting artists that come on the show. We're back from a podcasting hiatus that happened to be in the depths of my emotions during my current breakup. Heartbreak f*cking sucks - there's no other way to say it. In this therapeutic episode (for me anyways), we cry it out, hunni gives me pep talks and we also share some anonymously submitted stories by listeners of some embarrassing things they did during their breakups. In addition to some tears, we kick the episode out with a VERY IMPORTANT PSA. Remember the last #HuhNeyCheck episode where we talked about how to hide going to the bathroom when traveling with your partner? Ya, well those tips backfired for one of us and we lived to tell about it. We love being back with you, Ally -- FOLLOW US www.instagram.com/unfilteredwithally www.instagram.com/allypintucci www.instagram.com/jennungaro

How Happy Employees Translate Into Happier Customers Shep Hyken interviews Temy Mancusi-Ungaro, Chief Executive Officer of Reachdesk, a global data-driven gifting platform that helps teams send gifts at a large scale and measure their impact. He shares how companies can use gifts to create morale, nurture team connections, and ensure employee retention. Top Takeaways: · From an employee's onboarding to celebrating work anniversaries, birthdays, and promotions, a meaningful gift is a great way to create morale. · Now that the workplace has undergone a migration where employees have gone partially or fully remote, it has become harder to forge relationships. Personalized and timely gifts are an excellent way for employers to show they care for their employees as humans and that they want to invest in their work experience. · If you are dealing with a hybrid or fully remote workforce, people become disconnected from your company. However, just because they aren't there doesn't mean they want to be disconnected. Something as simple as an inexpensive gift and some company swag can make them feel excited and connected to something bigger. · Personalize gifts… When you receive gifts, the ones you will keep are those that resonate with you. It is all about the meaning behind it that creates a personal connection. · Employees need to feel connected and supported. Gifting is a great way to deliver moments that matter, build a connection, and support your employees. · Plus, Shep shares some of the best corporate gifts that he has received. Tune in! Quote: "In the same way that we use gifts to build relationships for sales, you can use gifts to build relationships within your employees." About: Temy Mancusi-Ungaro is the Chief Executive Officer of Reachdesk, the leading global data-driven gifting platform.
