Looking back at past episodes of the show, there are a few memorable ones, not necessarily for anything myself or the other hosts contributed, but rather from some of our esteemed guests. Of those esteemed guests, one that consistently piles on great information and awesome anecdotes about our hobby is Robert Shanebrook. A former employee of Eastman Kodak who while working there did everything from build cameras that went to the moon, to helping create some of the company's best film emulsions ever made, even some like TMax which are still being made today. With an incredible wealth of knowledge about Kodak's past and present, Robert still has his fingers on the pulse of the company and the industry and can often give insightful comments on where the industry is headed, so any time Robert agrees to join us, you know you're in for a ton of great information! Joining him on this show is returning guest Mina Saleeb and first time caller Jesse Wisdom. Of course, joining Robert, Mina, and Jesse are the four horsemen of the world's first and only open source film photography podcast, Anthony, Paul, Theo, and Mike! In this episode, Robert shares his insights into Kodak's recent announcement of their intent to keep making film for as long as there is demand, and what exactly that means for the film community. Robert reminisces on his days torture testing film and all of the great lengths Eastman Kodak went to making sure only the best film made it to your cameras, he talks about regional films, and a few more memorable film emulsions like Verichrome III and Supra. In addition, Jesse shares his passion for instant film photography and we learn of some history behind Polaroid's lawsuit against Kodak in the 1980s, and how if it weren't for Kodak, Polaroid might have never existed. Mike brings up his Kodak Aero-Ektar surveillance lens, and two recent pickups, a LOMO LC-Wide and W-Nikkor 2.5cm f/4 rangefinder lens. Anthony shares his experience going to a recent KEH film event in Atlanta and how there is a clear disconnect between younger film enthusiasts and the older generation. Jesse takes a stand and says that we need to connect the two groups of people as each can benefit from talking to another, but young people don't go on Facebook and old farts don't go on Discord. As always, the topics we discuss on the Camerosity Podcast are influenced by you! Please don't feel like you have to be an expert on a specific type of camera, or have the level of knowledge on par with other people on the show. We LOVE people who are new to shooting and are interested in having an episode dedicated to people new to the hobby, so please don't consider your knowledge level to be a prerequisite for joining! The guys and I rarely know where each episode is going to go until it happens, so if you'd like to join us on a future episode, be sure to look out for our show announcements on our Camerosity Podcast Facebook page, and right here on mikeeckman.com. We usually record every other Monday and announcements, along with the Zoom link are typically shared 2-3 days in advance. For our next episode, we are devoting the entire show to Yashica. From the earliest Yashica TLRs to Nicca rangefinders to screw mount Yashica SLRs to the final Contax/Kyocera/Yashica SLRs, we plan on covering the entire output of this once great Japanese camera maker. To help us traverse Yashica's long history, we will be joined by not one, but two Yashica experts who are certain to share with us a great deal of Yashica history and GAS! If you've ever had any questions about your Yashica Electro or Samurai, this is the episode you won't want to miss, so be sure to join us on Monday, October 30th for the recording of Episode 58! In today's episode, Host Dan Hesse talks with Bill Zollars, former YRC CEO and a 24-year veteran of Eastman Kodak during the company's heyday. The story of how Kodak, the third most powerful brand in the world, lost its way and ended up in bankruptcy remains so shocking on the surface that its journey is studied in business schools worldwide. There have been accounts in academic and business journals written about the demise of Kodak, but none with the anecdotes and insider's view that Bill shares. Zollars adds color to Kodak's journey with personal anecdotes of Kodak Moments and his unique insights into what was really going on behind the camera. The lessons learned from the Kodak saga are applicable to any company - particularly those that think "this could never happen to us". After graduating Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Minnesota, Bill joined Eastman Kodak where he held roles in Finance, Strategic Planning, Marketing, Logistics and General Management during a 24-year career. Bill left Kodak to establish the Integrated Logistics business at Ryder Systems and grew it from $300 million to $1.5 Billion in 3 years. He later became President of Yellow Freight and two years later was promoted to Chairman, President, and CEO of YRC Freight, a company he grew from $1 billion to $10 billion in revenue and into the Fortune 250 during his 12-year tenure as CEO. He serves on the boards of Cigna, Prologis and several private company boards, and was Chairman of Cerner until it was sold to Oracle in 2022. He is also in his third year as a Governor of the U.S. Postal Service. Listen below... or on ANY podcast platform, ANY time... THE Mentors RADIO... John and John discuss the different lenses in our life. The lens of the camera and the lens of our eye. What lens do you use and when and why?

This blog post is inspired by a thread that happened on Reddit. I personally responded to it as I'm a Mod for R/Polaroid. But I realize that there is a ton of misinformation and folks who don't know what's going on. Modern Polaroid Film isn't what it used to be. Further, there are great reasons for that. And in this blog post, we're going to explain everything to you. The following is from a post on R/Polaroid, where I'm transparently, a mod for the subreddit. So I've taken a summary I wrote there and modified it for this blog post. I hope that it will provide a lot of clarity on some of the misinformation out there. Specifically, this tidbit made me write this post. Polaroid lost their original formula since their rebranding with Project Impossible and Polaroid Originals and the team are actively working to improve the image. The Fall of Polaroid Years ago, Polaroid screwed up very, very big. They were already on the decline because the world became very anti-analog to embrace DSLRs fully realizing what they could do, and early mirrorless digital. So to make themselves look cool, they literally hired Lady Gaga as their creative director without the funds to do it. Kodachrome was also on its way out then, and the entire analog photo world was in disarray. This was more than a decade ago. Polaroid shut it doors, sold itself off to a Chinese company, and started to go the route of making zInk cameras. They survived and thrived off of their name alone for a few years. But no one took them with any bit of seriousness. The Death of Polaroid, and the Birth of the Impossible Project When Polaroid shut their doors, Florian Caps and a few others bought the factory and tried to recreate Polaroid's formula. They asked Polaroid for help, but Polaroid refused to do so. This is how the Impossible Project was created. Caps and others started the project to find a way to keep Polaroid film alive. Progress was made slowly and in a questionable pace. They focused on the 8×10 cameras first quite a bit along with a few other models like the SX-70 and more. They had a beautiful, and cozy gallery shop in NYC back then where they'd show the prints off. They were gorgeous but had to be experienced in person to really be felt, sort of like a Leica camera. Back in December of 2010, Impossible said that they were making progress and created a version of PX680. This and a lot of the smaller format films had problems. Some of those problems: Fading Issues with the film and spots Bad colors At my desk is a box of both Polaroid and Fujifilm instant film. And it's very clear what's what. Then they found a way to take your phone's photos and print them on their film. This is when the Impossible Project started to refocus a bit more. One of their biggest problems back then was that the film faded really hard. So they literally created something called color protection film. Impossible Project film continued to improve, but still wasn't up to what Fujifilm was making. Polaroid's Rebirth Speed up ahead, and a few things happened. Polaroid was bought by shareholders. Then the same shareholders also bought the Impossible Project. This brought the two companies under the same banner finally. Impossible film was rebranded to be called Polaroid Originals. By that, today's Polaroid is not the same company that started in NY that many years ago. Neither is Kodak, Kodak Alaris, Kodak Moments, or any of its variants. Fujifilm, Ilford, and Lomography are still the same companies they've always been. The modern Polaroid is not at all the same company that Edwin Land founded. So Will Polaroid Film Ever Improve? Personally speaking, no, the current Polaroid film will not ever look like the original stuff in my opinion. I've got photos of me from McDonald's when I was super young (I'm almost 35 when writing this). It hasn't faded a bit. And then I look in my desk drawer of Impossible Project and Polaroid originals film that I shot in the past few years. Some of it has fade...

The Panthers have returned home! After an over .500 road trip, they continued their dominant home stretch, now 19-3-0. They welcomed in a Vancouver Canucks team who were 8-0-1 since Bruce Boudreau took over as Head Coach, so it was not going to be an easy task for the Panthers. Though possession was an issue early on for the Panthers, they took advantage of the mistakes Vancouver made in period two and ran away with the game as they had a power play, shorthanded and even strength goal in the 2nd to propel them to a 5-2 victory on home ice.Twitter; @LO_FlaPanthersEmail: lockedonflapanthers@gmail.comSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Primal Origin OilsPrimal Origin Oils – Got Beard, Get Primal! First off: no, I'm not announcing a sponsor partnership with Kodak! But I am going to wax a little nostalgic for a second. I promise this is building to a point. Years ago, when we had to use film cameras, we'd take our film roll and get it developed at the store and then we'd be able to look at it and pick the shots we wanted printed. Kodak did a whole marketing campaign about the “Kodak moments,” those incomparable slivers of joy found in the little moments documented on film, it was a whole thing. So what does this have to do with making your children behave?! Well … let me explain! Our kids teach us just as much as we teach them. You will come to realize that your children mirror your own emotions and thoughts and actions back to you; fundamentally, it's monkey see, monkey do. This means that our assumptions and projections about our children often ultimately come true (so be careful what you think and how you act!). This week comes with a challenge: I want you to “collect” some mental “Kodak moments” of good things that happen with your kids. Be aware of those times when they do the things they're “supposed” to do. Praise them for the effort they put in rather than the result. As you work on doing this consistently, you will see a change in their behavior, and likely a change in your behavior as well. You've got this! Subscribe on Apple! Subscribe on Android! The NBA is now a 365-day league and it's never been more present in pop culture. From Kevin Durant's burner accounts to LeBron taking his talents anywhere to trusting the Process, the NBA is becoming a pop culture requirement. At the same time, sports can have gatekeepers that make it insular and frustrating for people who aren't die hard fans. We’re here to prove that basketball is entertaining to follow for all fans, whether you’re actively watching the games or not.
It's a Kodak Moment for sure! On July 28 of 2020, Kodak announced it was allegedly getting a $765 million loan from the US Government to aid it in producing drug ingredients. What happened next was obvious - the news about this federal support led to its stock to explode by 2,190% the next day. But this was not the end of the excitement as the SEC, or US Securities and Exchange Commission, then announced that it was investigating the firm on its extraordinary stock growth and whether any insider trading took place, as shares traded up 26% in the market immediately before the announcement was made public. After this podcast aired, the Kodak share price crashed by over 30%, as it was announced that the $765 million loan was put on ice, pending investigation. But don't forget, in 2018 Kodak went into crypto with their KodakCoin and their Kodak KashMiner, which weirdly enough was not to be integrated with and mine their KodakCoin – it mined Bitcoin. In 2018, when they released the news about their crypto, blockchain, and mining endeavors, Kodak's stock prices rose almost 120 percent. So what is Kodak up to? Join me, Aviva Ounap, and Jonathan Dunsmoor of Dunsmoor Law as we look at Kodak, their disconnected and seemingly erratic business movements, and discuss whether are they about to fall foul of the SEC with allegations of insider trading. Jason missed a 20-bagger with Kodak. He saw insiders were buying and he saw there was net cash, but he didn't do anything about it, and he missed his chance. This led to him realizing he needs to start taking advantage of opportunities he is able to find using his natural gifts for decision making with incomplete information, and to do it in a smart, managed risk way. On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast I’m chatting with Melissa Kruger about JOY! We dove right in and talked a million miles a minute about Bible study, hardship, and most of all, the joy that we have in Jesus. She said, “The object of our joy is the substance of our happiness. We like to rejoice in all these things, and we can go to God and say, ‘Thank you for my family, thank you for the fact that we have a meal to eat tonight, thank you that we have a house,” but he is the ultimate substance of our joy. The more we focus on him, the more we will be joyful!” Melissa is definitely a kindred heart and you're going to love hearing from her! She serves as women’s ministry coordinator at Uptown Church (PCA) in Charlotte, North Carolina, and is the author of The Envy of Eve: Finding Contentment in a Covetous World (Christian Focus, 2012) and Walking with God in the Season of Motherhood (Waterbrook/Multnomah, 2015). Her husband, Mike, is the president of Reformed Theological Seminary, and they have three children. She writes at Wits End, hosted by The Gospel Coalition. Her newest book In All Things is a study on JOY that releases tomorrow, June 5, 2018, which just so happens to also be the ONE YEAR anniversary of the Journeywomen podcast! Ya’ll, I have no words to express my surprise that we’ve actually made it this far. It is literally only by God’s grace.
