Have a Nice Death is an enjoyable roguelike with slick and satisfying moment-to-moment gameplay, top notch combat, and pinpoint platforming. As a roguelike, though, its various systems are oddly named, ill-explained, and muddled-seeming. In the roundup: Cyberpunk 2077 (again!), Grimoire Groves, The Last Worker, Dave The Diver, Koa & The Five Pirates Of Mara. And many thanks to the show's latest patrons: Reid, Chris & Ahti. My guest today is a writer, producer and director of plays, films and videogames. In 1997 he left Belgium to study theatre at NYU in New York. While a student my guest began freelancing as a video game journalist contributing to Next Gen, Official Dreamcast Magazine and the legendary Famitsu in Japan. He then joined Treyarch to work on the video game adaptation of Steven Spielberg's MINORITY REPORT, a project that set him on the path of cross-media storytelling. His 2014 graphic novel RICKY ROUSE HAS A GUN was named one of The Boston Globe's books of the year. Then two years later his debut feature film, THE WHITE KING, adapted from a Hungarian novel, debuted at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. Later, he produced the theatrical adaptation of Ernest Hemmingway's 1926 novel The Sun Also Rises, a West End success described by a reviewer for The Sunday Telegraph as ‘intense, raw and compelling.” Most recently, my guest directed C-Smash VRS, a virtual reality-based follow-up to the cult classic Arcade and Dreamcast game, Cosmic Smash. At the Reboot Develop Blue conference Seoirse joined Jörg Tittel, developer of The Last Worker, on his balcony to discuss anything and everything including why The Secret of Monkey Island got him interested in video games, how self service machines inspired him to make The Last Worker and then things got rather deep in their discussion about free will and AI in Jörg's characteristically funny and charming manner. He also talks about how he managed to work with Jason Isaacs and the other talented actors on his game. Chris O'Regan interviews Ryan Bousfield of Wolf & Wood and asks them about the design and development of their warehouse bound adventure game, The Last Worker. http://media.blubrry.com/caneandrinse/caneandrinse.com/sausage/TSF_Episode437.mp3 Music featured is by Oliver Kraus and can be bought from here:https://store.steampowered.com/app/2351000/The_Last_Worker_Soundtrack/ 1. Kurt2. Hoverbird3. The FarmThe Sausage Factory 437 was edited by Chris O'Regan The Sausage Factory is an interview-based podcast that lifts the lid on the makers of videogames. It examines the way in which games are made by asking the very people who create them, though the questions asked aren't just about game design, they also cover how developers made their start and what inspires them as creators. Split into two halves, the first segment delves into what makes the developers tick by asking about how they started, what and who inspires them and what games they are currently playing, whereas the second part of the show covers the game that they are currently working on and the thought processes behind its development. So, if you really want to hear about a game's gestation in full and frank detail then you have found the right podcast.

We are joined by Jörg Tittel, creator of the new video game The Last Worker, which is part social satire, part interactive narrative, part adventure game. We discuss the ideas, story, design, and production behind the game where players take on the role of the last human worker in an otherwise fully automated fulfillment center the size of Manhattan that is operated by Jüngle—a near future version of Amazon. The Last Worker is coming out on most platforms, including VR, later this year. ••• The Last Worker: thelastworker.com ••• Jorg on Twitter: https://twitter.com/newjorg ••• 15 minute demo playthrough of the game: https://youtu.be/Bgp7nLOKlM8 Subscribe to hear more analysis and commentary in our premium episodes every week! patreon.com/thismachinekills Grab fresh new TMK gear: bonfire.com/store/this-machine-kills-podcast/ Hosted by Jathan Sadowski (twitter.com/jathansadowski) and Edward Ongweso Jr. (twitter.com/bigblackjacobin). We recap and discuss season 2, episodes 3 (“The Last Worker”) and episode 4 (“Battle Ready”) of Borgen. Heavy focus is on Bjørn Marrot who becomes a target who is personally attacked by his own party and by the media. Höxenhaven becomes the new party leader replacing Marrot, and Michael Laugesen of Ekspress targets Höxenhaven's personal life revealing something deeply private.

In this episode, Andrew, Brian and Mike chat with writer, producer and director Jörg Tittel, who previously wrote for the US Official Dreamcast Magazine. We discuss Jörg's time at the magazine, his love for the Dreamcast, and his experience working on his own game (The Last Worker). He also shares some fascinating stories, detailing his friendships with Dreamcast developer royalty, including Frédérick Raynal (Toy Commander, Toy Racer) and probably most notably, the late Shinya Nishigaki (Blue Stinger, Illbleed) - which led to Jörg being included as a character in Illbleed!*Episode was recorded on the 20th February.Jörg's Twitter: twitter.com/newjorgThe Last Worker (Upcoming game Jörg is working on): thelastworker.comSupport the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/dcjunkyard)
