Have you heard something from a trusted source that was so wild it still required additional research before you'd believe it? Well…have you heard the story of how McDonald's did an “extreme makeover” on a vegetable that would make not only Ty Pennington jealous, but also Willy Wonka. During a private event in November 2014, the CEO was asked a question regarding what the company was doing to get kids to eat healthier. He stated that McDonald's had successfully developed broccoli that tasted like bubble gum, but the foodtech masterpiece never reached Happy Meals because children were allegedly confused by the taste. So, where does this stack up against other McDonald's missteps like the sketchy pineapple for buns Hula Burger or them selling their 90% stake in Chipotle 18 years ago because they wouldn't serve breakfast or add drive throughs? Ty Pennington Discusses How Important the Floor Choice is to the Success of a Space by Floor Focus Magazine
“Extreme” really is the only way to describe the ABC show that sometimes blew up old homes to create new ones for deserving families. And sure, carousels and fountains in your home SOUNDS amazing, but when that bus moves on, sometimes families were left with astronomical electric bills and unfinished work in its wake. Melissa is rolling up her sleeves for today's story about Extreme Home Makeover, and she cautions you to put on your safety glasses because the show's host, Ty Pennington's frosted tips are blinding. Between a few show reboots due to pending lawsuits and the need to tweak the show's premise (families going bankrupt after the show wasn't great for ratings), and Ty's own brush with the law, this episode is full of nostalgic moments, a heated debate over Ty's attractiveness, and a very necessary processing of feelings after listening to Tori Spelling's new podcast. This week we welcome the incredibly talented interior designer and Uber HGTV host, Sabrina Soto, for an enthralling conversation that spans from career beginnings, love, loss, heritage and that fucking bunny! Kicking off with her unconventional journey into the world of interior design, starting from her unexpected discovery of an opportunity on Craigslist to her inspirational implementation of “The Secret.” Her career trajectory takes us through her time in Washington DC, where she faced personal challenges, including a divorce, and professional milestones, such as decorating the White House for Christmas. On the penultimate episode of "Rock the Block" Season 4, the teams set their sights and renovation budgets on their home exteriors. This week, they're tasked with overhauling the house siding, landscaping, backyard, and patio. But, host Ty Pennington throws the HGTV stars a curveball—and an extra $1,000—to complete a design challenge. In addition to all the other work they're putting into their exterior designs, they must also create a recreational activity area. When designing (or dreaming about) the ideal main suite of a home, the goal is to cultivate a space that is comfortable and functional. On this week's episode of "Rock the Block," all four teams passed this test with flying colors. Every main suite included a relaxing bedroom, a spa-like bathroom, a walk-in closet, and a private washer and dryer. But one team of HGTV stars used their experience designing luxurious homes to rise above and be crowned the winners of the main suite challenge. On an all new episode of "House Party" podcast, we chat about the most recent episode of "Rock the Block" including all of the fancy-schmancy design details, that "design surprise," and (of course) host Ty Pennington—in chaps. For this competition, host Ty Pennington challenges the teams to renovate the entry area, living room, and guest powder room in their respective houses. Guest judges Mina Starsiak Hawk of "Good Bones" and Jenn Todryck of "No Demo Reno" stop by to evaluate the designers' work and determine who added the most appraised value to their home. The winning team harnesses the beauty of the Colorado landscape while also curating a feeling of luxury and comfort in their living room. So which duo comes out on top? Click the player above to hear our take on this week's hot topics. We're all in on season four of "Rock the Block," the home renovation competition that pits teams of HGTV stars against one another to build a house from scratch and add as much value to the property as possible. This time around, the showdown takes place in the idyllic mountain town of Berthoud, CO, and the designers are tasked with overhauling 5,000-square-foot mansions using a budget of $250,000. It's "Rock the Block": luxury edition, and we couldn't be more excited to recap the season and watch the drama unfold. This week is technically kitchens week, but the designers are also tasked with renovating the dining room, pantry, and mudroom. On top of that, host Ty Pennington sends the HGTV stars on a hot air balloon design challenge that takes the competition to new heights. Jenny and Dave Marrs, stars of "Fixer to Fabulous," are brought in to judge the final designs and choose a winning team based on their decision to build not one but two kitchens. Which design duo comes out on top? We discuss it all on this week's episode of "House Party." Summer is closer than ever, and on HGTV that means a return to the shore for another season of "Battle on the Beach." We thoroughly enjoyed the first season of this home renovation competition show, and we weren't alone. Last year, it was watched by more than 13 million viewers. So you can only imagine how excited we were to meet three new teams of competitors and see them flip three identical beach houses with the help of their HGTV mentors Ty Pennington, Taniya Nayak, and Alison Victoria. This week, the teams tackled the kitchen and dining areas in their respective beach houses. One team's design reigned supreme, but the episode featured plenty of twists and turns that we couldn't wait to discuss. Want to hear our hot takes? In July of 2019, AARP Foundation filed a class action lawsuit against Yale University. This month, after almost three years, the case was finally settled. The lawsuit alleged that certain university workers and their families were required to participate in the school's employee wellness program. Some employees faced fees of $1,300 per year if they did not participate in the program. We discuss the conclusion of the lawsuit with Dara S. Smith, senior attorney for AARP Foundation. We love a good home renovation show—especially when that show pits HGTV stars against one another. So you can imagine how excited we are that the new season of "Rock the Block" has begun. For the next six weeks we'll watch some of our favorite design experts go head to head to maximize the value of four identical houses. Each team has $225,000 to customize their house in pursuit of the ultimate prize: bragging rights and a street named in their honor. Oh, and did we mention that Ty Pennington is hosting? Yeah, this is going to be fun. This week's episode starts out by introducing us to the four teams competing against each other: Mike Jackson and Egypt Sherrod from "Married to Real Estate", "Jenny and Dave Marrs from "Fixer to Fabulous", Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas from "Bargain Block", and Lyndsay Lamb and Leslie Davis from "Unsellable Houses". The first challenge is to make over the kitchen, dining area, and adjacent powder room. Each team is looking to add their signature style to their rooms while also increasing the appeal and overall value. And who stops by to judge their hard work? New Kids on the Block alums/current renovation aficionados Jonathan and Jordan Knight. The former boy band members are the first of a handful of celebrity guest judges that we'll see throughout the season. So, which team's kitchen, dining, and powder room had "the right stuff"? Click play to hear our recap of the entire episode. For the next few weeks you can watch new episodes of "Rock the Block" on Mondays at 9 PM ET/PT on HGTV or Discovery Plus, and then tune in to "House Party" podcast for recaps the very next day.Be sure to subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts so you have access to new episodes right when they publish.
