He is the son of a medical missionary whose life was changed at the age of eighteen by an short meeting with Dr. Francis Schaeffer. Later he worked with Os Guiness, James Davison Hunter, and quite a few others in the areas of cultural research. He has written books on leadership, discipleship, and manhood, and has his finger on the pulse of American religion culture.  Today we discuss what it means that we are in a changing age and why leaders can't rely on 20th century models of leadership as their guide. Die Tageszeitungen des Jahres 1925 berichteten ihrer Leserschaft nicht nur von den Neuigkeiten auf den Konzert-, Theater-, Opern- und Operettenbühnen und von den aktuellen „Streifen“ in Lichtspielhäusern, sie besuchten außerdem regelmäßig die Varietébühnen, denn nicht selten waren die dortigen Attraktionen das Gespräch der Stadt. So sorgte im Herbst 1925 der dressierte Seelöwe „Jackie“ mit seinen Auftritten im Berliner Wintergarten für Furore. Er konnte zum großen Erstaunen des Publikums beim balancieren und jonglieren auch noch singen und lachen. Als er bei seinem Gastspiel im Hansa Theater Hamburg das Militärlied „So leben wir, so leben wir“ zum Besten gab, schrieb der wahrscheinlich männliche Kolumnist mit dem Pseudonym „Nemo“ für die Harburger Anzeigen und Nachrichten vom 4. Dezember einen launigen Erfahrungsbericht zum Seelöwengesang. Seine Eindrücke übermittelt uns Frank Riede.

Stell dir vor, du hast die Gelegenheit, Neuseelands atemberaubende Südinsel zu erkunden - und dann wirst du krank. Leider ist es uns genau so gegangen, und wir konnten uns nur in kleinen Kreisen um Christchurch herum bewegen. Irgendwas Anstrengendes war nicht drin! Wilde Tiere, eindrucksvolle Landschaften und Granitfelsen als Kunstwerke der Erdgeschichte: Kangaroo Island ist ein wahres Naturparadies und wird das Galápagos Australiens bezeichnet. Die Insel liegt 16 Kilometer vom südaustralischen Festland entfernt und ist etwas größer als Mallorca. Kängurus, Koalas, Pinguine, Robben, Seelöwen und Stacheltiere aus der Urzeit, beeindruckende Steinformationen, weißer Sandstrand und eine dramatische Felsenküste - auf Kangaroo Island spiegelt sich die Vielfalt der südaustralischen Natur wider. Trotzdem ist das Eiland vom Massentourismus verschont geblieben - kein Wunder, bei einer Anreise von gut 30 Stunden aus Europa. Geteerte Straßen gibt es nur wenige, in der Inselhauptstadt Kingscote lebt knapp die Hälfte der 4.900 Bewohner. Verkehrsampeln? Fehlanzeige. Als 2020 verheerende Buschbrände Zweidrittel der Insel verwüsteten, schien das Naturwunder in Gefahr. Die Bilder toter Wildtiere gingen um die Welt. Doch die Arche Noah Down Under hat sich bemerkenswert schnell erholt. Michael Marek war für uns dort.
