In this exciting episode of Fishing the DMV, I sit down with Joe Balog, founder of Mighty River Recovery, a nonprofit dedicated to restoring fish and wildlife habitats in Florida's St. Johns River. As a fisheries scientist and passionate advocate for conservation, Joe shares how his organization is tackling habitat decline, uniting freshwater fishing voices, and pushing for better management practices to restore vital ecosystems. We also dive into the importance of submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) and how its decline threatens fisheries—not just in Florida, but across the country, including here in Virginia and Maryland. If you're an angler concerned about the loss of SAV in the Potomac River, Chesapeake Bay, or other local waterways, Joe's insights on restoration efforts offer valuable lessons on how we can fight for healthier fisheries in our own backyard. “His Presence is a MIGHTY RIVER. Will you drink of it?” This is a must watch message for the Church today. Promise Bradley brings a challenging word about the River of His Presence, revival, and our responsibilities as believers to steward all these things well. His Presence can not be organized, it can only be stewarded. We can not create The River, all we can do is JUMP IN. “When the poor and needy search for water and there is none, and their tongues are parched from thirst, then I, the Lord, will answer them. I, the God of Israel, will never abandon them. I will open up rivers for them on the high plateaus. I will give them fountains of water in the valleys. I will fill the desert with pools of water. Rivers fed by springs will flow across the parched ground. I will plant trees in the barren desert— cedar, acacia, myrtle, olive, cypress, fir, and pine. I am doing this so all who see this miracle will understand what it means— that it is the Lord who has done this, the Holy One of Israel who created it.” Isaiah 41 : 17 - 20 NLT Website: https://theroads.church

South Australians are being encouraged to visit a great part of their own ‘backyard' in SA Murray River Lakes & Coorong region. It's not often that we have the opportunity to welcome a living composer into our midst, but that's indeed the case as Emmy-nominated composer Kareem Roustom joins us to talk about his clarinet concerto Adrift on the Wine-dark Sea. Inspired by Homer's classic epic The Odyssey and Melissa Fleming's A Hope More Powerful Than The Sea (a harrowing story from the Syrian Refugee Crisis), Kareem's concerto is a meditation on the nature of survival and hope in the face of despair. Local concert-goers have a chance to hear it live from the Toledo Symphony and "intensely soulful" (NY Times) clarinetist Kinan Azmeh, in a program which also features Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade and another modern work, Errollyn Wallen's Mighty River - which is based in part on the hymn tune New Britain (familiar as the melody of Amazing Grace).
The world is not as it seems! Where we focus creates and shapes the world. Meditation on God's Word and Spirit awakens the new creation He made in us. Joshua 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success. Phil 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.
Main Point: The Resurrection of Jesus would be the key to unlocking the meaning of Ezekiel's visions of renewal and healing for God's people. It would begin with a trickle out of Jerusalem It would expand to a mighty rushing river It would culminate the changing of the unchangeable

"In 1811, on board a steamboat named the New Orleans, Nicholas Roosevelt pioneered steam travel down the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. "As the New Orleans passed along the western border of the state of Tennessee, the first shocks of an earthquake struck near New Madrid, Mo. on December the 16th. Villages were destroyed, bluffs along the Mississippi fell into the river, ravines opened as far south as Natchez. As a result of the earthquake of 1811, the ground in the northwestern corner of Tennessee collapsed and giant waves from the Mississippi flowed to fill the depression, reversing the flow of the Mighty River and forming Reelfoot Lake. (Awakening musical Interlude) "This tune is called Awakening. It is RoadMusic® written especially for this part of our journey along the Natchez Trace Parkway through Tennessee. "Steamboats helped bring an end to pioneer travel along the Natchez Trace in the early 1800s. At a pivotal point in this rapidly changing world stood a truly remarkable year. "Annus mirabilis 1811. "Join us next time when we will visit SWEETWATER BRANCH, GLENROCK BRANCH and DOGWOOD MUDHOLE. For Natchez Trace a road through the wilderness, I'm Frank Thomas." Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #441 is an hour of intrepid visionary acoustic improv music played live by the Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, Native flute, Celtic harp, acoustic guitar, sitar and ukulele, Craig Harris on congas and Native drums, Bob Sherwood on piano and Robin Rooney on djembe, percussion and vocals. Recorder at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington Massachusetts on an afternoon in May 2021, today’s show begins with the delightful folk ballad “May Day”, a bouncing, energized song driven along by Mariam’s ukulele and buoyant melody. “Mighty River” continues the folk feel as it moves into a minor key and Mariam establishes a flowing melody over a powerful, gradually developing theme from Bob on piano. “Breath In The Sweetness” is a harp-led fantasy featuring beautiful call-and-response vocals from Mariam and Robin and a smooth, narrative feel with imaginative piano. “Harmonize” is today’s centerpiece, distinguished by powerful vocals from Mariam and Robin and a simple and unusually powerful gospel piano motif from Bob. “Believe You Can Change” is a bluesy, afro-cuban-derived jam featuring evocative vocals and Native flute from Mariam over a rocked out backbeat. “Purify” echoes the powerful “Harmonize” with granitic piano from Bob and Mariam’s excellent flute, and “Set Your Wings In Flight” is a serene minor trance piece with fine vocals from Mariam and Robin. Mariam plays her sitar for today’s final song, the mystical raga “All We Have Is Our Hearts”, an evocative piece that features shining performances from the whole band and a beautiful vocal from Mariam. ***This is a Spoiler Free Episode*** “Remember Me” from Coco Performed by Miguel & Natalia Lafaourcade - 2:40 “Mighty River” from Mudbound Performed by Mary J. Blige - 8:40 “Mystery of Love” from Call Me By Your Name Performed by Sufjan Stevens - 13:10 “Stand Up For Something” from Marshall Performed by Andra Day and Common - 18:50 “This is Me” from The Greatest Showman Performed by Keala Settle - 24:36 Re-Rank / Perfecting Perfection - 31:43 For our 10th retrospective halfisode on the Best Original Song category, we wanted to do something relevant, something special, and diving back into last year’s Oscars became both those things & then some. All of these movies are now available on VOD, all of these songs deserved to be re-visited & listened to once more, and one of our mind’s have been changed since we reviewed the category last winter to create some re-rank drama. So we enjoyed this recap. Coco’s “Remember Me” involves much more than just some lyrics in a song. Mary J. Blige and her performance at the Oscars makes us wonder why an entire genre of music rarely wins this statuette. “Mystery of Love” by Sufjan Stevens is a perfect marriage between song and film while Common actually adds to what he sang in the Marshall credits to his award season performances. Then we have the snubbed “This is Me,” and as we do throughout this episode, we discuss how our perceptions of this song & performance have changed since Oscar Night. It’s a fast, fun, and surprisingly substantive look back. Go back & listen to our massive catalog of episodes. There are now 10 Best Original Song Oscar retrospectives. We’ve also reviewed many other categories of the Academy’s past from 1997’s Best Picture - the Year of Titanic all the way through 1989’s Best Original Screenplay where Spike Lee’s script for Do The Right Thing lost to Dead Poets Society, and even as far back as the 1974 Best Actor race where former TV star Art Carney somehow beat out Pacino, Hoffman, and Nicholson. We’ve also put out full series on the Marvel Cinematic Universe & Mission Impossibles to have fun during the spring & summer Oscar off-season. But of course, we’ve kept you up to date on next year’s awards by previewing the contenders from their film festival premieres in HHT (Hollywood Hot Take) News episodes to way too early Oscar Predictions & Mid-Year Oscar Race Reports to bi-monthly previews of everything hitting theaters to our continuing series of Oscar Contender Trailer reviews. Finally, don’t miss our reviews of the movies themselves. We’ve already reviewed Black Panther, A Quiet Place, Avengers: Infinity War, Deadpool 2, Hereditary, The Incredibles 2, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Sorry To Bother You, and Mission: Impossible - Fallout. All those movies should have legitimate arguments for Oscar nominations come next year, and we’re covering them as they’re released to you. Chat with us on social media. We are Mike, Mike, and Oscar on Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, and Gmail. We’re @MMandOscar on Twitter, and mikemikeandoscar.com is nearing a launch announcement. As always, thanks for listening, liking, reviewing, and sharing our show with others. When reality sucks, you’ve been watching these movies and listening to the songs of Oscar with us.
Guest: Taura Stinson The Album: Minnie Riperton's Adventures in Paradise (1975) 2018 has been a breakout year for this weeks guest, Taura Stinson. "Mighty River", the song she co-wrote with Raphael Saadiq for Dee Rees' critically acclaimed film Mudbound was nominated for both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award. She is a singer's singer who understands the nuances of song creation, production and arrangement. We couldn't have asked for a better guest and a better album to discuss and were thrilled to have her wax poetic about Minnie Riperton's 1975 Adventures In Paradise. We dug deep on this one - discussing both Minnie's supreme vocal prowess and the sonic and lyrical legacy she left us when she left us just four years after this album was released. With production help from The Crusaders, Stewart Levine and Leon Ware, this peek into Minnie's world is quite the adventure. Everyone loves a good story. Winnipeg country roots troubadour, Kevin Roy, shares his songs as if telling a story for the first time over morning coffee. He delivers poignant folk ballads, wry wit toe-tappers, and barnburners with the right balance of aw-shucks honesty and unbridled enthusiasm. Kevin released his very well received first full length long player "Heartworn Highways" in 2016. Kevin Roy sat down with Jan Hall from Folk Roots Radio at the 2017 Folk Music Ontario conference to chat about his music and play a few tunes live. It's a great session, and definitely worth a listen. Check out Kevin Roy online at http://kevinroymusic.com. Mil perdones.
