At the age of 14, don Miguel Jr. apprenticed to his father don Miguel Sr. and his grandmother, Madre Sarita. From that early age, he was called upon to translate Madre Sarita's prayers, lectures and workshops from Spanish into English. In this way, through constant repetition and review, he learned the content of her teachings in both languages. Through interpreting for Madre Sarita, don Miguel Jr. came to understand the power of faith. He saw first-hand how she manifested her intent to heal people, both physically and spiritually. don Miguel Jr.'s apprenticeship lasted 10 years. When he reached his mid-20's, his father intensified his training. At the apex of this power journey don Miguel said to his eldest son, “Find your way out. Go home and master Death by becoming alive.”    For the past 13 years, don Miguel Jr. has applied the lessons learned from his father and grandmother to define and enjoy his own personal freedom while achieving peace with all of creation. Today, he is married and has two young children. As a Nagual, he continues to pass along the wisdom and the tools of his family's traditions in helping others to achieve their own personal freedom and optimal physical and spiritual health in his lectures and workshops. Miguel Jr. has taken the lessons of his father and grandmother, and discovered his own personal path to freedom. Being able to apply his teachings to the world around him gave Miguel Jr. a new understanding of the lessons his father and grandmother had passed onto him, once again giving him the desire to pass on this awareness through his books.    He is the author of the books: “The Five Levels of Attachment”, “Living a Life of Awareness”, “The Mastery of Self”, and “The Don Miguel Ruiz's Little Book of Wisdom”. He also co-authored the book, “The Seven Secrets to Healthy, Happy Relationships” with his dear friend, HeatherAsh Amara. He now helps others discover optimal physical and spiritual health through his books, so that they may achieve their own personal freedom.   Miguel Jr. is wise way beyond his years, and clearly picked up so much deep learning from his grandmother and father. We talked a lot about unconditional love, letting go of judgment and the need to help our elders, especially now.   Some of the main points we talked about are: A moment of clarity with action becomes a pivotal moment in life. If you don't take action, it just remains a theory. Making an agreement means saying yes - we are always at choice in all aspects of life. The biggest gift you can give yourself is to take 100% full responsibility and to choose your yeses and nos wisely. Nothing can make you feel inferior or less than without you accepting it or believing it.  Unconditional love means being able to see your whole self as you are and to have full acceptance.   Find out more about Miguel Jr. and upcoming events, talks and books at miguelruizjr.com   Connect with don Miguel Ruiz Jr. WEBSITE:  www.miguelruiz.com / www.miguelruizjr.com FACEBOOK:  facebook.com/don-Miguel-Ruiz-Jr TWITTER:  https://twitter.com/dMiguelRuizJr INSTAGRAM:  https://www.instagram.com/donmiguelruizjr   Enjoying the show? What does it take to AWAKEN WITH PURPOSE? Featured Guest: Prana Booster Don Miguel Ruiz Jr. Hi Prana Boosters! Have you ever wondered what your life would be like if you grew up learning spiritual wisdom from your Father and Grandmother? At the age of 14, don Miguel Jr. apprenticed to his father don Miguel Ruiz. and his grandmother, Madre Sarita. We recorded this episode in 2016 and I never launched it because soon after I found out my Dad had Stage 4 Esophageal Cancer. I immediately quit and dropped all of my work to take care of my dad. I didn't know that we were entering an almost 9 month hospice journey with him and then after this I did not come back to my work or podcast show til recently. I am so proud to share this interview though with Don Miguel Ruiz, Jr. as I feel the timing couldn't really be more DIVINE.  In this episode you will hear: Which of the Four Agreements (from Don Miguel's Father) did our girls love to reference when they were little? What is Toltec Wisdom? What is Domestication & The Dream of The Planet? Why is unconditional love and forgiveness so hard for most people? How have we corrupted the word perfection? What is conditional love? Hear us discuss why I think parenting is like one big daily pop quiz Why we are afraid of being wrong in life and what the “punishment of this is” Hear why our emotions are real, but what may trigger them is not ie. fear, etc. What do we need to do to heal our relationship with ourselves and what is the result of this healing? What does Don Miguel Ruiz Jr. say that we need to understand…that was so relevant in 2016 and now even more relevant today in times of Global Difficulty? Quote from his book: The Mastery of Self: “Forgiveness is an act of love, so in times of global difficulty I will say to myself: I choose to forgive, I choose to engage, I choose to take action, I choose to use my voice for healing and I choose to express the power of my intent through unconditional love. I am a co-creator of the Dream of the Planet, and I choose to end the cycle of conditional love.

For better or worse, I am a spiritual seeker who doesn't stop. I find truth, I share it with my friends, family, and now my New Age Christian community, and then I keep going. Often, this journey creates a sense of insecurity in those who ‘follow' my teachings because no idea feels ‘safe'. But the truth is, there are two different types of ideas: principles and conclusions. Principles are ‘safe'. Conclusions are subjective. I'm currently experiencing what I perceive to be my ‘most important' series of spiritual lessons for living, and while I'm keenly aware that many of the ideas I'm thinking in this journey are subject to change, there are 3 principles I believe I have learned that will never change as I move forward. All communication is filtered and distorted by our knowledge. These filters and distortions are NOT the ‘truth' of a matter. They are simply our personal attempt to convey the truth we are feeling. Happiness only comes when your external circumstances confirm your internal agreements. Thus, any pursuit of happiness must bring change to either the external circumstances or the internal agreements. The Kingdom of Heaven within you is happiness that stems from a system of internal agreements that removes external caveats from being required. All of humanity is looking for this system of agreements. All of humanity knows this is where heaven truly resides. These ideas have largely come from my exploration of a series of books authored by don Miguel Ruiz and his two sons Jose and Miguel Jr. This series of books convey ideas from their family's Toltec Native American heritage. The original book that started me down this path was their most famous book, The 4 Agreements, but I highly recommend ANY of there books for those who want to consider what their internal world might look like if they were truly living ‘in heaven'. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/new-age-christianity/support

#114 Eating and Drinking in Barcelona This summer Phil and I visited the famed city of Barcelona. We were not prepared with how this city hangs. We arrive late one evening, and decided to hit the town, staying out well past 2am. Little did we know, the city awakens around 11pm and stays up all night long. Trying to keep pace with the locals, we quickly learn the customs. Tapas is the name of the game here and anywhere between 1 and 2pm you take your major meal of the day followed by a siesta, then back to work.  Happy hour around town starts at about 8pm and then continues until dinner which could range anywhere between 9:30 and midnight. We saw toddlers out to eat and wide awake at dinner around midnight. It was quite a sight, and we loved every minute of it. We wanted to share with you some of our favorite spots (LORD KNOWS THERE ARE MANY) and believe me, we don't cover as many as we should, or COULD. It would take eons. We also share some places that are overhyped and overrated for the price on this episode *Cough.. Uma Cough*. Essentially we just wanted to point the newcomer in the right direction whether you were craving a hipster cocktail, a standard glass of wine, the best paella experience, or tapas, tapas, tapas. Traditional tapas you will see on a menu that are staples- Papas Bravas (Never pay more than 3 euros for a serving), fried padrons, marcona almonds, bread smeared with fresh tomato and olive oil, chorizo, sardine, jambon, and my absolute favorite, blood sausage! They are all SO GOOD. Get them all. No really, eat all the tapas you can until you are sick of it, hopefully at a spot called El Taso De Oro (Surprising you will get sick of it after a while). One of our favorite things while traveling is meeting new people and making connections that last a lifetime, and this episode has a special shout out to a wonderful family we met through a paella cooking class at their home. Paella is seen EVERYWHERE in Barcelona. Rule of thumb, if you see if on a picture outside the restaurant, don't eat it. Phil and I have been making paellas at home for the past year and will be hosting an Airbnb Experience in Pittsburgh for it soon!We are now friends for life and we knew it shortly after meeting each other! There are a lot of cooking classes boasted in town, but this one located just a short bus ride away is worth it for the cuisine, culture, conversation, and gorgeous grounds. Check it out if you are ever near the area and give our friends Miguel, Marta, Miguel Jr a huge hug from Phil and I. :) You can find it along with many others on Airbnb experiences.  Another spot we LOVED was an exquisite dining experience for Phil's birthday. It would be something memorable for your last night in Barcelona, Rudolf Plotz from Pirate Cooking. I found it on Eat With, which is one of my go to helpful websites to look for authentic meals cooked by locals and chefs alike. We visited his building and sat with all walks of life to enjoy one of the best gastro fueled meals we have ever had. It was so delicious.Eat With is also mentioned in my podcast episode How To Travel Alone Without Being Lonely. I love this app for traveling. All and all we came back from Barcelona about 10 lbs heavier, and cannot wait to return to explore more of what Spain has to offer. It is just the tip of the iceberg! Hope you enjoy and let us know about your travels! finished Paella at Miguel's house! Phil's birthday dessert at Uma  A local watering hole for tapas and beers. One of the crazy concoctions by Pirate Cooking. So good. Our friend Miguel! We love you! Our table of awesome travelers for Pirate Cooking. A tipsy Marta enjoys her favorite drink. Can you guess what it is? Fried padrons and bread with tomato! A ridiculously awesome cocktail concoction at Dux TAPAS ALWAYS. Top left - Chorizo, meatballs, pardons, and jambon with potatoes, and an empty plate. :) Duck course at Pirate Cooking.

There are some exciting things going on behind the scenes here. I mentioned the upcoming changes to my website in last week’s 100% Jodi. There are other changes I’m planning for this podcast, The Accomplished Membership Community and in the coaching services I provide. Some of the changes are subtle, some not so subtle and I will let you all know when the changes are real and you can actually look at them or experience them. Suffice to say for now, the experience I’m having working with a digital strategist, the feedback I’m getting from all of you, and the experience I’m having doing A Course in Miracles, and the complimentary books I’m reading, are leading me in some exciting new directions. I want to read to you an excerpt from one of those complimentary books I’m reading, The Law of Divine Compensation by Marianne Williamson. “Your energy, your attitude, your positivity, your words, your ability to listen to others and truly dwell in the present; all those things make you a person others want to be with, want to work with, want to share ideas with. That energy is the spiritual basis for wealth creation.”What Marianne is talking about is self-leadership and this is the core of the business and leadership coaching I do. In fact, the starting point in working with me is taking the Energy Leadership Assessment. The Energy Leadership Assessment captures your energy, your attitude, your positivity, your ability to listen to others and truly dwell in the present. It’s not a critique; it’s a snap shot to give you an idea of where you are starting from and where you can go. And you’re not left there. In the debriefing of your results I am giving you practices and perspectives that will help you to increase your energy, positivity and abilities so you can be without a doubt the person others want to follow, want to work with, want to collaborate with, etc. If you are interested in taking the Energy Leadership Assessment go to womentakingthelead.com/assessment to find out more and purchase your assessment so you can start getting the results you want to see. The Four Agreements for a Better Life In last week's 100% Jodi episode I introduced doing a series of episodes based on one of the most impactful books I have ever read, The Four Agreements. Last May I published a 100% Jodi episode titled, 9 Places I Found What I (Didn't Realize) I Needed. In that episode I shared 9 books that came into my life and changed it for the better. When people ask what book I would recommend to others The Four Agreements is the book I recommend most. The reason for this is I believe the biggest thing holding us back in our lives and in our businesses is our stress reactions. Our stress reactions are created by our perception of self, others and the world at large. Quite simply, the teachings in The Four Agreements enable you to change your perception so you don’t get stressed out by what’s happening. Because you don’t get stressed out and thus shut down, overreact or pretend things are okay when they are not, you can bring forth your highest self in any situation. The Four Agreements are powerful because they are simple. I recently had the pleasure of attending an event in Portland, Maine titled The Four Agreements for a Better Life. The speakers were don Miguel Ruiz, who is the author of The Four Agreements, and his sons don Miguel Ruiz, Jr. and don Jose Ruiz. In this series I’m sharing with you the notes I took that evening and some of my thoughts around the material. This is part two in this series. Last week I covered the opening of the evening in which don Miguel Ruiz, Sr. declared the most important agreement is Be Impeccable with Your Word. I’ve been hearing from some of you that this talk provided a spin on this agreement that you had not considered before so if you personally did not catch that episode be sure to go back and give it a listen. Always Do Your Best Next to the stage that evening was don Miguel Ruiz, Jr. and he covered the agreement, Always Do Your Best. Here are my notes as I wrote them. Always do your best is the expression of unconditional love. It is living your life fully. Love yourself, love your body, and love your mind. Take care of yourself for your fullest expression of love. Conditional love is the enemy of freedom. In fact, as don Miguel Jr. explained it, conditional love is the weapon used for domestication, or controlling the will of another human being. Control of another is a form of disrespect that begins with creating self-doubt in another. Self-doubt then allows the perpetrator to exert their will and subjugate the other. There are rewards and punishments in the process of domestication. The rewards feel like acceptance, feel like love and the punishment feels like rejection, a lack of love. Looking at yourself in the mirror and judging yourself is the ultimate form of Domestication. Couples also try to domesticate each other to fit their own image of love. Bring Awareness to Your Automatic Ways of Being Taking the four agreements and making each one a means by which to judge yourself and others is domestication. Judgment takes a pure teaching or wisdom and corrupts it. In a moment of clarity when we see what we have done we can make a choice to change for ourselves. To unlearn our domestication we need bring awareness to our automatic ways of being, our automatic “yeses” and “nos.” Being skeptical introduces reason and prevents the automatic “yes’ or “no.” Putting your beliefs up for scrutiny (skepticism) will allow you to make a new choice. What has someone else said that has stuck with you? Chances are they said it once or a few time but you have been repeating it to yourself ever since, thus being complicit in your own domestication. As Eleanor Roosevelt said, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” Forgive yourself for being complicit in your own domestication. Be skeptical of negativity. Be skeptical of your own negativity. To Sum it Up… That’s the end of my notes and I have to share when don Miguel Ruiz, Jr. introduced skepticism…let’s just say I was a little surprised. I was skeptical of being skeptical which is making me laugh a little bit now. However, what I’ve come to realize is doses of skepticism allow you to bring more awareness to the forefront. Rather than knee-jerk reacting into a verbal response or a behavior we can take a step back and consider the options. I’ve come to realize there are very few things that need to be rushed. Yet, we often rush to try to fit more into our lives only to realize most of the things we’re rushing to fit in are things we don’t want or need in the first place. In fact, rushing will cause us to overlook important details that we will have to take the time to fix or make amends for later. Always do your best is the expression of unconditional love. It is living your life fully. Love yourself, love your body, and love your mind. Take care of yourself for your fullest expression of love. Energy Leadership Assessment I’m bringing this back around to the Energy Leadership Assessment because it goes hand-in-hand with don Miguel Jr.’s coverage of “always do your best”. His coverage had at its core bringing awareness to your automatic ways of being. That is exactly what the Energy Leadership Assessment does. It allows you to see what your knee-jerk reactions to stress are so you choose a different response if you want to and get a different result. It’s a quick and dirty way to get at the heart of what has been keeping you from accomplishing the goals you long for. If you are interested in taking the Energy Leadership Assessment go to womentakingthelead.com/assessment to find out more and purchase your assessment so you can start getting the results you want to see. Don Miguel Ruiz, author of “The Four Agreements,” has inspired me and countless others to think outside what society would call “normal,” by helping us understand the Toltec tradition. His legacy continues through his son Don Miguel Ruiz Jr. who has written four books and is a friend of the show. Miguel Jr is back to discuss how we can live a life of awareness within the Toltec path. The last time Miguel was on the show he sang to me… Perhaps he will serenade me again.

Being able to apply his teachings to the world around him gave Miguel Jr. a new understanding of the lessons his father and grandmother had passed onto him, once again giving him the desire to pass on his beliefs. The ancient Toltecs believed that life as we perceive it is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and all of our dreams come together to make the Dream of the Planet. Problems arise when we forget that the dream is just a dream and fall victim to believing that we have no control over it. The Mastery of Self takes the Toltec philosophy of the Dream of the Planet and the personal dream and explains how a person can: Wake up, Liberate themselves from illusory beliefs and stories and Live with authenticity. http://www.miguelruizjr.comSenior Vice President of Worldwide Sales Operations at TiVo, a Fortune 500 Company, keynote speaker, leadership mentor and bestselling author Amy Van Atta Slater transforms challenges into opportunities. Charlotte View welcomes don Miguel Ruiz, Jr. He is a Toltec Master of Transformation. He is a direct descendant of the Toltecs of the Eagle Night lineage, and is the son of don Miguel Ruiz, author of New York Times bestseller The Four Agreements. He is the author of the books Living a Life of Awareness: Daily Meditations on the Toltec Path and The Five Levels of Attachment: Toltec Wisdom for a Modern World. Along with his family, he teaches workshops and offers transformational journeys around the world. He also hosts a successful weekly internet radio show, “The Way of the Desert”. We have all unwittingly made agreements about how we choose to live our lives and what we believe our personal truths are. But what we may not realize is that each one of these agreements represents an attachment, a limiting filter on who we think we are, and what the future could hold. We call these attachments “knowledge” without ever questioning if that knowledge is necessarily true for us. During this interview, don Miguel Ruiz Jr will guide all listeners to understanding how we have developed our belief structures and how to go about re-evaluating—or even severing—these harmful attachments. According to Miguel Jr., "it is important to be aware of where we are on the scale of attachment with any particular belief.  With awareness we can regain the power to make our own decisions."  Miguel Jr teaches us to divide our attachments in 5 levels and how to find the beliefs we have attached to each: The Authentic Self; Preference; Identity; Internalization; and Fanaticism  For more information: www.miguelruizjr.com

Today we have a very authentic and heart-felt guest, I'd call him a bridge, between languages, cultures and ancient wisdom and the modern world. He's a master, a student of the Toltec tradition, perhaps you could even call him a warrior, though not in the traditional terms. And he's a Nagwal, but I'll him share about that. His name is don Miguel Ruiz Jr. Don Miguel Ruiz JR, is the author of two very special books, The Five Levels of Attachment: Toltec Wisdom for the Modern World, and Living a Life of Awareness, Toltec Wisdom for the Modern World. You may be familiar with his father, who's written some of the most beautiful spiritual books such as The Four agreements: A guide to Personal Freedom.   At the age of 14, don Miguel Ruiz Jr. apprenticed to his father don Miguel Sr. and his grandmother, a faith healer, Madre Sarita. From that early age, he was called upon to translate Madre Sarita's prayers, lectures and workshops from Spanish into English. In this way, through constant repetition and review, he learned the content of her teachings in both languages. Don Miguel Jr.'s apprenticeship lasted 10 years. When he reached his mid-20's, his father intensified his training. At the apex of this power journey don Miguel said to his eldest son, "Find your way out. Go home and master Death by becoming alive."        For the past eight years, don Miguel Jr. has applied the lessons learned from his father and grandmother to define and enjoy his own personal freedom while achieving peace with all of creation.   Today, don Miguel Jr. is married and has two young children. And so, as a Nagual he begins once again to pass along the wisdom and the tools of his family's traditions in helping others to achieve their own personal freedom and optimal physical and spiritual health.  I am so excited to have don Miguel Ruiz Junior on the show, I think there's so much we can learn from him, from Toltec wisdom, and from his experience as a bridge between the wisdom of the past, and the wackiness of today. Thank you so much for being on the show Miguel, are you ready to shine??? Questions Include: Who are the Toltec People? What does Toltec Mean? What was it like growing up in both cultures and ways? What is a Nagual? Grandmother – faith healer, and translating it, but letting knowledge get in the way Domestication and attachment Let go of the attachment that you must obtain some image of perfection for you to be happy. Facing our own reflection When you no longer believe in a self-judgment, it will no longer have any power over you. You can choose to view yourself from a place of acceptance based on the undeniable truth that you are already perfect and complete exactly the way you are right now. Why did you think you were imperfect when your father would tell you you were perfect just as you were? Where did the differing belief come from? (childhood? Parenting? Experiences?) 47: min - For me, I have crossed that threshold from concept to experience while jogging – usually around the one-mile marker. This is when I am no longer thinking about my route, pace, or even the pain in my legs. This is a moment when everything goes calm, and all I can feel is my breath, the stride, and the environment. My mind suddenly shuts off and I am completely in the moment, and I know exactly what I am doing without the need for thought. From this place even the term Authethic Self disappeares, along with the rest of my thoughts. I am simply alive with the complete freedom to love myself and everbody as I chose. I have no need to distort the information I perceive because my perception of life is unencumbered by any attachments. The authentic self is the harmony of mind, body and soul as the expression of life. Level 2 – the controlled folly The clean mirror What does Toltec mean? What was your upbringing like? What is Domestication WHAT ARE THE 5 levels of attachment How can we use the five levels to transform our lives…or to liberate us??? How are we subjugated, or tied to…at present What is the biggest demon in the world? (or why is love the biggest demon in the world?) Mitote and narrators in our head Being motivated by self-love :o) How do we move from level 5 to 4 or 4 to 3 or so-on? Are we supposed to strive toward level 1 (or judge people based on the level they're at?) Quest for truth vs. quest for being right Toltec 5 – Believing without being skeptical The Gift of Listening
