In today's podcast episode, our very own host shares why she takes issue with the term ‘Mom Goals'! Podcast Takeaways:Live Well Tip of the Week: Comparison is the enemy of alignment. You can not be fully present with your own life & experiences, if you're always comparing your life to someone else's. Social media hashtags such as #Mom Goals, can cause unnecessary pressure, emotional pain, and mental health issues for some mothers. The term ‘Mom goals', can cause us to strive for unrealistic goals. Someone else's mothering journey doesn't have to be your journey.  We don't know the truth behind closed doors or the reality of someone's life behind a social media post. Social media only focuses on what can be seen publicly. Understand the difference between inspiration and comparison. Comparison interferes with our own intuition. It can cause you to question yourself and your own ability with raising your kids. Avoid comparison. Try to stay on the side of inspiration. Be realistic with what works for your family and your personal parenting needs. Remain in a place of humility even when receiving compliments on your parenting, so that you do not feel the need to keep up with a certain appearance of perfection. Afterall, parenting is not about meeting other people's expectations! Is there a particular hashtag that you see on social media that really gets under your skin? If so let us know! We may even use it as a topic for an upcoming episode!

We are excited to create a space for moms – from all different backgrounds and careers – to tell their stories and inspire others. Today, we talk about friendship, careers and how a mutual love of cheese boards inspired us to start MomGoals! We give a taste of what's to come in future episodes by asking each other the hard-hitting questions, like how we make time for ourselves while juggling careers and raising babies, what our latest obsessions are and our tried and true mom-hacks.    IN THIS EPISODE: [00:36] Introduction [01:58] How being a mom changes your career [03:12] Love of cheese boards [04:17] What have you done for you lately? [10:43] Latest obsessions [15:25] #MomGoals and best mom tips [18:50] Amanda's mom hacks  KEY TAKEAWAYS: #MomGoals is a space for moms to tell their stories and inspire others. So many times women are defined by their careers or being a mom, we want to show how multidimensional women can be as they balance careers, parenting, and more!  Becoming a mom is a major life transition that impacts every aspect of life.  It can be hard for moms to put themselves first before their children or family, but that is sometimes the best thing to do for yourself because then you have more energy for others. BIO: LIZ TEICH BIO: Liz Teich is a New York based fashion stylist, lifestyle blogger, on-air style expert and mom of two.  Liz has been a personal stylist for moms since becoming a mom herself, and a professional commercial stylist for 15 years, styling fashion and home goods for print and digital advertising campaigns for major brands and retailers.  She has appeared as an on-camera style and lifestyle expert for brands, regional and national news and appeared in and regularly contributes her fashion expertise to national publications such as Business Insider, Better Homes & Gardens, Women's Health, PureWow and CNN Underscored.  After styling bloggers for the TJMaxx “Maxxinista” campaign, it led her to launch her own blog and brand called The New York Stylist. Through her site and Instagram, she has partnered with brands to share some of her favorite products, services, styles, in addition to her favorite mom, beauty, and style hacks. She also focuses on sustainability, clean beauty, and eco-living with all that she does.  AMANDA MINTZ BIO: Amanda is the Founder and CEO of Amanda Mintz Creative Management. Anna is a professional dancer, choreographer and founder and creator of Anna Kaiser Studios and the Anna Kaiser Technique. Her passion is helping women find freedom and purpose through movement. Liz, Amanda, and Anna talk about motherhood, tips for prioritizing movement and self-care, and Anna shares the one thing she wishes she knew at the start of her career.      IN THIS EPISODE: [00:01] Anna Kaiser Introduced [08:30] Anna's career journey [15:37] Creating AKT  [18:32] Balancing motherhood and career [20:32] Anna's athletic brand line with Target [22:50] Greatest accomplishment [28:05] One thing you wish you knew before you started your career [30:28] What have you done for you lately? [31:08] Latest obsessions [35:40] Mom tips [41:52] Mom goals   KEY TAKEAWAYS: Anna has had a successful career as a professional dancer and choreographer where she performed in the US and internationally. Her performances and tours include the international tour of Fame, the 50th anniversary of the Music Man, the 50th anniversary of West Side Story, and more! She was also a backup dancer for Shakira. While dancing professionally she also continued her education in movement and mechanics, studying how the body and muscle are connected. She is certified in Pilates and yoga and in 2002 she began working as a boutique fitness instructor. In 2013, she created the Anna Kaiser Technique (AKT) and opened her first studio in New York City. In 2018, AKT was sold and they now have over 120 franchise studios and international studios in Japan, Saudi Arabia and Australia There isn't ever going to be a perfect balance when it comes to motherhood and your career. In Anna's words, “I don't think it's possible to get enough of everything and find perfect balance.” During the shutdown in 2020, Anna was pregnant, and overnight she had to pivot and transform her studios and fitness classes into 100% virtual while also moving from New York City to Connecticut. Her friendships with other moms and entrepreneurs played an integral role in getting through such a stressful and challenging season.  Advice for entrepreneurs: Choose a lane and do what you do well. Find people to round out your weaknesses, put together a list of all those things that you either don't do well, or you would rather not do so that you can focus your energy on what you do well. Self-care should be a lifestyle commitment for moms. Do something for yourself to feel better in your skin. You feel stronger when you walk out in the world and when you learn something new too. Education is the new luxury for us moms to be able to learn something new.  Mom hack: Use a sticker chart to track your workouts or a certain self-care activity that you choose. When you see your progress on the calendar in front of you, the amount of days you've taken time for yourself can be very sobering and inspiring. Find a workout that you enjoy and really love to do. If you don't enjoy it, it won't happen.    BIO: ANNA KAISER BIO:  Anna Kaiser is a celebrity fitness professional, choreographer, and entrepreneur. [37:49] Latest obsessions [41:29] Mom hack KEY TAKEAWAYS: How do you do it all? You don't. The only way you do it all is you don't do it all at the same time. Prioritize one to two things you could do very well and let a lot of the other stuff go. Everyone has goals. How you choose to pursue them is on you. So often women minimize their goals and dreams. Bring the people in your life – who want to support you – along on the journey as you pursue your goals. Ask for help or tell them what you want to do and let them offer help.  Life is short and your style is going to change. Never stop rediscovering your style and what you want to wear. Stop diminishing art that is created by women for women, or let it be treated as less than. Not all women's stories have to be tortured or a struggle. Let's celebrate women's happiness, too. Mom hack: Ask your kids what snack they want the night before, put it on a sticky note as a reminder to you and accountability to you kids. And set the table for breakfast the night before to save yourself time. Hitha's challenge: Get offline this holiday season and figure out who you are. Reacquaint yourself with how you define yourself and how you want to be defined. Create micro rituals for your morning and start the day off doing something for yourself – like reading a book, meditation, or yoga.  BIO: HITHA BIO:  Hitha is a consummate multi-hypenate - an entrepreneur, investor, writer, and speaker.  As CEO of Rhoshan Pharmaceuticals, she oversees financing, partnerships, and strategy for the company. She is currently raising the company's Series A round and developing the commercial strategy for their lead product, RHO-11.

Play Episode Play 60 sec Highlight Listen Later Jun 2, 2021 30:43

News report headline reads: FOUNDER OF ANTI-JUDGMENT MOVEMENT JUDGES MOM Ugh. The shame! Lisa here, and that was me (and thankfully it didn't make the papers, just my blog and this podcast!) In the McDonald’s PlayPlace, I tore a fellow mother apart from ignoring her kids and working on her laptop - in my head. Until the gut-punch of conviction rolled in to remind me that I’m a working mom, too, and it’s hard. Sometimes I’m on my laptop. Sometimes (like that very day) my kids eat Happy Meals. None of that makes me feel like a bad mom, so why was I so intent on judging her? The answer’s a pretty good one. Surprising, actually. You’ll have to hear it to believe it. So dive on into this episode, but don’t be surprised if there’s a gut punch headed your way too! You’re a really good mom -- and so is she!
