In this episode, we hear from Larry Dukerich, one of the key people who developed modeling resources for chemistry instruction. He talks about how modeling changed the way he taught and expands on the three main ways that modeling differs from a traditional lecture-style classroom. Guest Larry Dukerich Larry Dukerich received his B.S. in Chemistry from Michigan State University and his Masters of Natural Science from Arizona State University. He taught high school chemistry and physics, including regular, honors and AP courses, in Michigan and Arizona for 34 years. He was a Woodrow Wilson Dreyfus Fellow in Chemistry in 1986 and a Presidential Awardee for Excellence in Science Teaching in 2000. Since 1995, he has conducted numerous summer workshops for physics and chemistry teachers as part of the Modeling Instruction Program at ASU, and later in Pennsylvania, N Carolina, Tennessee, New York City, Missouri, California and Colorado. He has also made presentations about and conducted workshops on Modeling Instruction at NSTA, ChemEd and BCCE conferences. He is one of the lead contributors to the curricular materials used in Modeling Instruction in chemistry. Highlights [11:00] If you go to a workshop, you're going to be exposed to a reform pedagogy, which is going to require you to change the way you manage your classroom. If you are looking for a way to improve your instruction then this is going to be something for you. [16:10] When you go to a workshop, teachers play the role of student as they run through the experiments, collecting data, analyzing it, having to interpret it, and explain what's going on. And same thing with worksheets, tests and quizzes, that sort of thing. And they get the feeling for how modeling instruction differs from their traditional classroom practice. [32:33] It's a culture, not a cult. I have just found, once I started teaching with modeling that I found the experience in the classroom much more satisfying. My students found the course enjoyable and wanted to take more science. Places that have been implementing modeling have seen science enrollment grow, an increase in the number of advanced courses that students take.
Gwyneth dominates the white news cycle, and a N Carolina teacher tapes a kid's mouth shut. Elon Musk calls for a shutdown of AI, and two escaped inmates can't escape the allure of a short stack at IHOP.
If the state senate also passes the bill, North Carolina will become State #6 to move towards imposing TERM LIMITS on ALL members of Congress, not just the President! Also, Ron DeSantis once again shows public support for congressional term limits, and insiders reveal that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's promise of a floor vote regarding the subject WILL happen this year…
There are government studies like the census which show migration patterns. These are comprehensive studies that focus on completeness. But there are other studies from moving companies and from U-Haul which illustrate migration patterns in a statistically significant way. The numbers might not be comprehensive, but they show the trends. Allied Van Lines issued their migration report for 2022 which shows some distinct patterns. But Allied Van Lines is a premium moving service. Would the more budget conscious movers that use U-Haul mirror the same trends or would the data be different for U-haul and Allied Van Lines. On today's show we're going to look at both and compare. The top outbound states according to the Allied Van Lines study showed California, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Illinois topping the list. New York has traditionally been thought of as an outbound state and historically has topped the list. New York had 45% inbound and 55% outbound, so they too lost population, but didn't make the top five list. Arizona, Texas, Florida, Tennessee and N Carolina and S Carolina made the top inbound state list. Other states that boast strong inbound numbers include Idaho with 69.2% inbound and 30.8% outbound, Montana with 93% inbound and 7% outbound. When we look at the Uhaul data, there are some similarities, and some differences. The Uhaul data confirmed the same top states. So we have looked at both Uhaul and Allied Van Lines and have been able to draw the same conclusion about which states are growing the fastest and shrinking the fastest. Even though a full service move and a DYI move are different, there is strong correlation between the two types of moves. ------------- Host: Victor Menasce email: podcast@victorjm.com

There is a generally accepted definition of adultery which is in line with the Scriptures and it is ‘Unlawful sexual intercourse with married people' – So this now depends upon what ‘Unlawful' means Lawful can change but what does not change is the spirit of adultery. It was lawful for Sarah to give Hagar to Abraham to have a child because if a woman was barren she could give her handmaid to her husband as a surrogate mother. It is unlawful in most of western society for a man to have two wives – bigamy, but it is not unlawful to commit adultery, but it used to be grounds for divorce in Australia till 1975. There are legal definitions of adultery in the American States of N Carolina, Minnesota and Virginia. And the commandment itself, and the spirit of adultery, or infidelity takes a lot more into account. Jesus once again expanded on this commandment in the sermon on the mount. Jesus once again expanded on this commandment in the sermon on the mount. Matthew 5:27-28. 'You have heard that it was said to those of old, "You shall not commit adultery." 28. 'But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to desire to have her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. From what Jesus said in that Scripture we can see that it deals with the whole sphere of unfaithfulness or infidelity, wrong desires, and excessive self-indulgence. The self-indulgence part is one of the biggest factors that drives the rest because the commandment is about commitment to another person and their needs. Excessive self indulgence is about no one else's needs but our own. DOES PROSTITUTION COME INTO THE CATEGORY OF ADULTERY? Prostitution more of an expression of the next commandment – number eight, because it is as much about materialism as relational infidelity - It's the money for the prostitute but the spirit of adultery for the man/woman. IS PORNOGRAPHY PART OF COMMANDMENT SEVEN? In the sexual area pornography seems to top the list. It is an addictive behavior that allows a person to isolate themselves and be gratified rather than engage meaningfully in fulfilling relationships and be satisfied. Also in the area of sensual gratification and outside of the sexual area are found things like over-eating, and drug abuse which includes alcoholism, and the abuse of prescription drugs, as well as the abuse of narcotics, and stimulants. At first glance, these pursuits and activities might seem to be rather 'private' habits, which do not involve causing harm to other people, but really they destroy themselves, their families and everyone else in their world.

It is a national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of the country. But organized labor is facing acute challenges thanks to recent court decisions. Friday is Loud & Clear’s regular segment on the midterms, taking a look at political races around the country in the runup to midterm elections in November. Death by Regulation: How We Were Robbed of a Golden Age of Health and How We Can Reclaim It In 1962, Congress passed possibly the deadliest regulations of all time: the 1962 Amendments to the Food & Drug Act. This “living law” continues to metastasize to this day, reshaping the pharmaceutical cartel, the supplement industry, the practice of medicine and transforming our health care paradigm from prevention to treatment. Research shows at least half of Americans who have died since 1962 lost about 10 years of their lives to the Amendments; in all likelihood, each of us has been affected. Dr. Ruwart's new book, Death by Regulation, is now available for purchase through Amazon or Death by Regulation Website Learn why Congress passed the Amendments in the first place? Have they made a difference? Find out how The Amendments added about 10 years to the time it takes for new drugs to get from the lab bench to the marketplace. They destroyed over 50% of our innovations and censored the dissemination of life-saving information. Dr. Mary J. Ruwart is a research scientist, ethicist, and a libertarian author/activist. She received her B.S. in biochemistry in 1970 and her Ph.D. in Biophysics in 1974. As a senior research scientist at UpJohn, Dr. Ruwart was involved in developing new therapies for a variety of diseases, including liver cirrhosis and AIDS. Dr. Ruwart left Upjohn in 1995 to devote her time to consulting and writing. She teaches communications courses for scientists and provides consulting services for nutraceutical companies, clinical research organizations, and universities. Dr. Mary Ruwart served with the Center for Applied and Professional Ethics at the Univ of N Carolina, designing a medical research ethics course for the University. Her radical application of ethics to medical regulation, especially regulations regarding pharmaceuticals, has life-and-death-implications. Since 1982, Dr. Ruwart has also been involved in societal ethics with a focus on the political theory and practice of libertarianism. Her award-winning international best-selling book, Healing Our World, demonstrates how the ethical application of libertarian principles has historically created harmony and abundance. Referencing hundreds of studies, Dr. Ruwart demonstrates that many of our current policies surreptitiously violate the basic ethical standards that we hold dear, thereby leading to unintended—and highly undesirable—consequences. Over the last three decades, Dr. Ruwart has often run for public office as a Libertarian Candidate, primarily to educate voters on the impact of ethical choices on their personal and financial well-being. Mary's 1st book: Healing Our World: The Compassion of Libertarianism Dr. Ruwart’s international best-selling book integrates the morality of Christianity, the ethical compassion of the liberal, the self-responsibility of New Age spirituality, and the practicality of real world politics to take the libertarian ideal to the next level. To say that Elizabeth Throckmorton had a bad case of missing her husband would be an understatement. We know this fine, but slightly eccentric, woman as Lady Raleigh, the wife of Sir Walter Raleigh, the English explorer who visited this continent at the end of the 16th century and gave his name to an airport in N Carolina. Among other things he named Virginia after the Virgin Queen Elizabeth, and he took back to England the potato and tobacco. Thanks for spuds, Walt, but you can keep the cigarettes. If Lady Raleigh were alive today, I don't really know what psychotherapists would make of her. There must be some disorder or syndrome that we could attribute to her, because she really did do something very odd.
Recently a 43 year old man was killed by police in Charlotte, NC, in what some are calling yet another incident of racial profiling. I totally understand the anger and outrage at a presumed killing of an innocent individual, and protests, if handled correctly, can be a powerful tool in voicing one's concerns as well as influencing much needed reform. However, here are some of the reasons why protests of this nature do not work. This show is broadcast live on Wednesday's at 9AM ET on W4CY Radio – (www.w4cy.com) part of Talk 4 Radio (http://www.talk4radio.com/) on the Talk 4 Media Network (http://www.talk4media.com/).

Super WiFi (a.k.a. TV white spaces) promises to re-purpose idle TV channels so they can be used to build more powerful and less expensive WiFi networks than with previous versions of WiFi. Wilmington, NC is the first US city to put this WiFi-on-steroids to work. Leslie Chaney, Chief Technologist for New Hanover County, describes the progress Wilmington has made to date with this government-use only network. Lessons learned here can be exported to other communities to help them build networks that serve constituents as well as government. GigaOm Senior Writer Stacey Higginbotham joins Craig Settles today as guest co-host. To get more background on Super WiFi, listen to this Gigabit Nation interview with AIR.U, a consortium that's bringing colleges, small towns and other parties together to create Super WiFi networks to cover rural areas.
