Happy Valentine's Day! We hope this episode brings you life, laughter, and love. Taylor certainly brings those things with the song "Today Was A Fairytale." We discuss that song in its entirety, and we drink some bubbly and princessy cocktails, but not before discussing in length ALL the details of the past week. Well, the Eras Tour is over and Taylor has left us nearly speechless. In part because we are forever in awe over how special the Eras Tour was, in other part because we are deeply shocked and surprised that Vancouver was the most regular weekend ever. Sam isn't mad that Taylor didn't announce anything, he's just upset that she knowingly led us to believe we should clown for something. 21-24 – Jazz Matters October 2024 Show Welcome to Jazz Matters, where I invite you to celebrate the music that means the world to me. This month's show is deeply personal, as it is dedicated to the memory of my father. I've been quiet since early June, as my father had been battling illness, and sadly, I lost him recently. This month's show is a tribute to him—a man whose life was also immersed in music. Although his taste gravitated towards country and classical, somehow, we always connected over the timeless sounds of Steely Dan. In his honour, I've included two of his favourite tracks, one from Can't Buy a Thrill and the other from Aja, albums that were very close to his heart. My father wasn't just a music lover, both my grandfather and my father were the greatest influences, shaping the way I experience and appreciate music. As I find my way back into the rhythm of things, I'm excited to explore new creative projects and ideas, including a new audiophile platform I've been working on. So in 2001 when Erick Sermon dropped (Just Like) Music it was the perfect blend, mixing the silky smooth sound of Marvin Gaye with the modern, raw sound of hip hop. It's a timeless jam and just one of many from what a lot of people consider the best time ever for hip hop. And as much as we love the old school jams, your hosts Don Elivert and Jehriko Turner ask the important question, has our love of hip hop continued to evolve too? Are too many people stuck on old jams and dismissing the new artists the same way the old heads dissed hip hop when we were coming up? It's an easy argument to fall into. The 1990s and early 2000s gave us BIGGIE, Nas, Wu Tang, Tupac and Dre. Jay Z, DMX and Snoop. But the current crop is every bit as talented with J Cole, Chance, Future and Lil Nas X pushing the art forward. So why don't they get the love? Why do so many people seem to think that hip hop hasn't evolved and gotten better? Has it? Has it progressed?  And speaking of progress, we've all got to do better when it comes to recycling and taking care of the environment. We just had Earth Day, but that's not enough. And unless you're Bezos or Elon, you're stuck here on Earth with the rest of us, so clean up after yourself.
