Chamanisme, définition : pratique spirituelle ancestrale, présente dans toutes les cultures du monde, où l'être humain, accompagné de son tambour ou de sa voix, se présente comme l'intermédiaire entre l'humain et l'invisible en effectuant un voyage mental, une odyssée à travers un espace rêvé, virtuel, in visible aux yeux du commun des mortels. "Je savais très fort ce que je voulais", dit-elle. Et ce qu'elle voulait, c'est plonger, à corps perdu, dans les possibilités vocales et percussives de sa propre musique. Faire entendre des sons de l'extérieur tout en explorant les tréfonds de son intériorité. Avec S.H.A.M.A.N.E.S, Anne Paceo invite au voyage, mais pas n'importe lequel : celui d'un chamanisme intemporel, "profondément humain", dit-elle. Pour cette nouvelle création, elle puise son inspiration dans les musiques et les pratiques vocales chamaniques. Inspirée autant par l'énergie des tambours de transe que par les chants sacrés, la musique, brute ou texturale, la batteuse, chanteuse et compositrice livre un septième album à la fois introspectif et ouvert sur le monde. En 2020, le festival Jazz sous les Pommiers, où Anne Paceo est alors artiste associée, lui demande de travailler sur une nouvelle création. Après les albums Fables of Shwedagon (2017) et Bright Shadows (2018), S.H.A.M.A.N.E.S voit le jour durant un week-end sous les Pommiers, en septembre 2020. L'enregistrer est une évidence. Anne se plonge alors dans les musiques chamaniques du monde entier, des rituels d'exorcisme de Bali, les cérémonies vaudou d'Haïti, les chants de divination de Sibérie ou encore les rituels de possession du Candomblé brésilien. "Il ne s'agit pas de les reproduire, précise-t-elle, mais plutôt de les laisser infuser dans mon imaginaire, et m'inspirer pour proposer une musique sans frontières." Initiative ô combien précieuse en ces temps pandémiques ! Depuis l'enfance, Anne s'intéresse de près aux pratiques chamaniques, dont les propriétés thérapeutiques bénéficient toujours de la présence de la voix et de la percussion. Ce qui s'entend dans S.H.A.M.A.N.E.S. De Reste un oiseau à Marcher jusqu'à la nuit, de From the Stars à Dive Into the Unknown, de Healing à Travellers, Anne Paceo raconte un monde nouveau, nourri de la sorcellerie, plutôt celle de Mona Chollet que celle au nez crochu, comme on l'entend sur Piel. De la légèreté, de la fantaisie pour affronter une morosité ambiante, pesante et anxiogène. Dans Wishes, elle fait aveu de faiblesse et partage ses souhaits les plus chers. Sur Wide Awake, elle évoque sa dualité, dans L'Aube elle convoque ses fantômes, tandis que Here and Everywhere retrace la dissolution de l'âme. Animal totem du disque, l'oiseau est enfant de bohème, source de spiritualité… S.H.A.M.A.N.E.S est un disque qui, par ses multiples petites histoires, nous fait rentrer dans la grande, habitée par les mondes réels et les mondes parallèles, avec lesquels les chamanes dialoguent. "C'est une manière de revenir à un son profondément organique, essentiel, souligne Anne, de cultiver l'indépendance offerte par les percussions et les voix, instruments ancestraux aussi libres que mobiles." Si elle écrit, compose et réalise seule sa musique, Anne aime s'entourer de complices haute-fidélité. Ici, elle fait appel à Isabel Sörling et Marion Rampal, chanteuses polyglottes qui portent, le cœur en bandoulière, les mélodies d'Anne. Laquelle choisit d'inviter un second batteur à cette drôle de fête mystique, "pour enrichir le spectre rythmique", Benjamin Flament, inventeur d'un instrument unique, constitué d'éléments de batterie et de plusieurs métallophones. Sans oublier les fidèles Tony Paeleman, au piano et au Fender Rhodes, et Christophe Panzani aux saxophones et clarinettes – tous deux suivent Anne depuis l'album Circles, en 2016. "Nous avons fait tellement de concerts qu'il y a quelque chose de spécial quand nous jouons ensemble, un son, une alchimie particulière", commente Anne. Album acoustique, à la fois intime et universel, car il raconte, en filigrane, l'histoire d'une femme puissante dans un monde aux possibilités souvent cachées, S.H.A.M.A.N.E.S réinvente le langage d'Anne Paceo, qui se connecte plus que jamais à l'autre, grâce à la nature, aux animaux et aux astres. Hailing from Philadelphia, America's City of Brotherly Love, Ryan Tennis' music is all about dismantling boundaries and bringing people together. Genre-defiant by nature and with diversity at its core, his rousing songs are infused with the rhythms from the many countries he's visited during his extensive tours. While his performances are dynamic and danceable, Tennis' voice and songs have a disarming sweetness that lowers your defenses and lets you breathe easy. A singer-songwriter and guitarist, Ryan Tennis' style bares a strong influence from the Folk and Rock he grew up with (Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, Crosby Stills, Nash & Young), a connection with roots soul music that grew in his youth (Bill Withers, Otis Redding, and Sam Cooke), and the energy and rhythms of Colombia, where he has toured and collaborated with some of the country's finest artists. Despite a life that now circulates around music almost entirely, Tennis admits he was a late bloomer when it came to songwriting. Sports occupied much of his time during his teens and into college, playing as a 1AA All-American defensive lineman at Davidson College in North Carolina until the age of 22. That intensity and power that he channelled for football still comes through in Tennis' live performances.  Over the last 12 years, Tennis has played 100-200 shows a year and pulled off countless independent tours with shows in the US, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Costa Rica, Mexico, Ireland, Switzerland, Germany, France, Austria, the Netherlands, Denmark, Italy, Spain, Thailand, and Australia.  Since then, Tennis has also released four full-length LPs and two EPs, has fronted a 10-piece "Graceland'' band with the Grammy award-winning South African bass player Bakithi Kumalo, collaborated with Latin Grammy winning artists Nidia Gongora and Hugo Candaleria, and regularly toured South America with Latin Grammy-nominated group "El Caribefunk”. Additionally, he won the Philadelphia Songwriters Project, was selected as a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition, and helped found “Sancochofest” in the City of Tuluá, Colombia. In his hometown of Philadelphia, he curates and hosts “Tracks at the Vale,” a vibrant concert series on the stage he built in his backyard, where the music and the crowd echo the warmth and diversity he has fostered in his music.  “Everyone's struggling these days in their own way, including me” Tennis says. “The best way I've found to feel that joy, that flow, that freedom from worry, is when I'm performing, when I feel like I'm channeling something big. When I'm in that place I can open up my own groove, and open it up for other people too.” Ryan Tennis has achieved so much during his time in music and shows little sign of slowing down.
