TYPES OF FASTINGThe Bible reveal that there are different types of fasting. Supernatural Fast.An example is the fast done by Jesus, who went without food and drink for forty days. Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry (Mathew 4:1-2)Another example is Moses. Then once again I fell prostrate before the LORD for forty days and forty nights; I ate no bread and drank no water, because of all the sin you had committed, doing what was evil in the LORD's sight and so arousing his anger. I feared the anger and wrath of the LORD, for he was angry enough with you to destroy you. But again the LORD listened to me. And the LORD was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him, but at that time I prayed for Aaron too. Deuteronomy (9:18-20)Scientifically, this fast is not advised. It should only be embarked upon when one is sure of its order from God. Then we are confident we have grace and the assurance of no dire consequences. I met a man of God (Apostle Idama of blessed memory), who embarked on 40-day fasts twice a year for several years. In my discussions with him, I found that he was especially graced for the exercise, and the results at his meetings also testified to God's endorsement of his life. He, however, warned me to never embark on such, except I was sure God was asking me to do the same. Absolute FastThis is when we abstain from food and drink for three days or maybe a little longer. This type should only be embarked upon for short periods. An example is Esther's fast.Partial FastThis is entails refraining from out certain foods or drinks. The fast can last be from dawn to dusk, a couple of hours or days.An example is the Daniel fast, where he and his friends ate only lentils for ten days.Regular FastThis is done from dawn to dusk, with no food or drink. No matter what type of fasting the sojourner chooses, it is essential to note that it is the way of anyone serious about their walk with God. We should have regular times of fasting and prayer. We do this to separate ourselves to God to advance His kingdom on earth. When we embark on these fasts, our senses are sharpened, and we can pick any signals and instructions from the Spirit. What About Fasting in Other Religions? Some other faiths, such as the African traditional or ancient Greek religions, also subscribe to fasting. When there is a critical assignment, say installing a new priest or priestess, the chosen vessels were placed on prolonged periods of fasting and praying and abstinence from other fleshly pleasures. They are secluded in special covens, away from other humans and subjected to various rituals to prepare them to meet their gods and the assignment at hand. That way, access to the spirit world is easy and unhindere.Fasting helps us to focus on the job at hand. It keeps unprofitable habits out of the way. Athletes need it if they must succeed at their skill. Hospital patients are generally required to fast before any surgery. Is there any difference between the Christian fast and that of other faiths? Christians fast to position themselves before God and put themselves in a state where the self can be done away with. Thus, the Christian fast is a call to holiness and righteousness.Other faiths fast to get their god to do something, either as a reward for effort or a matter of right. But unfortunately, fasts can also be embarked upon to cause evil in other faiths or gain some diabolical powers.Another question may be; since Jesus paid the price for our sins in full, why does the Christian still need to fast? There is a simple answer to the question; It is not every royal-born child that lives to be king. It is one thing to have an inheritance; it is an entirely different matter to appropriate the same in your daily living.

Pope Francis recently claimed that all religions are paths to God which has occasioned the usual firestorm of controversy, dismay, and efforts to explain what he really meant. Ralph attempts to cut through the confusion and state clearly what the truth upon which our salvations depends. What Makes Christianity Different from Other Religions? Christianity stands apart through with the emphasis that We don't obey to earn God's love; we obey because He already loves us. Remember, grace isn't a reward we achieve, but a gift we receive—while religion says "do," the Gospel proclaims done.

Believers are completely different than those who do not know Christ. This is explained in the New Testament by contrasting phrases of light and darkness and life and death. Knowing this, how can believers have relationships with unbelievers, both those who profess no faith and those of other religious beliefs? How can we nurture relationships with these people, seeking to establish friendships and evangelize them while maintaining our own beliefs? This week on the Straight Truth Podcast, Dr. Josh Philpot and Dr. Richard Caldwell discuss how believers can develop relationships with those outside of Christ and what we must always remember as we enter into friendships of this kind. Join us to hear the answers to these questions and more as they seek to guide and encourage us to think and act on the truth of God's Word. Dr. Caldwell shares that he has had a few relationships like this over the years. He points out there is nothing in our lives that isn't dedicated to Christ, including our friendships and relationships, Christian or not. So we must never lose sight that Christ must be preeminent even in our relationships, even when it might be with someone of another belief system, such as Mormonism or Islam. Often, when we form these friendships with unbelievers, it's usually around some common ground, common likes, etc. It's easy to find ourselves desiring to spend time around each other because of these things. We become friends through that connection and grow to like and care about each other. But we must never forget that that person is lost, and we must make that a priority in our own hearts. But not in a way where we're constantly angling to share the Gospel. Instead, we want to pray for them and be alert and ready for opportunities the Lord might provide for us to witness to them. We can look for ways to demonstrate God's kindness and truth that aren't artificial or awkward. We want to show them genuine love. Dr.

3 Tough Questions #2 Is Jesus the ONLY Way? By Louie Marsh – 11-27-2022 Today we're going to talk about the ONE thing about Christianity that bothers people the most today! Nice religious teachings are ok – but saying Jesus is the only way to God – That's offensive! So lets look at it! “6Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6, ESV) 1) Do All Roads LEAD TO GOD? Today the Politically Correct thing to say is YES – but that's not what Jesus said – and that breaks the one sacred rule in our culture – you must never be intolerant!! Why does Jesus Say this – why are we told to worship the one true God – not the mush God of popular culture? Other Religions say, "I'll show you how to find the truth." Jesus says, "I AM the truth!" Other Religions say, "I'll show you the way to salvation." Jesus says, "I AM the way to salvation!" Other Religions say, "I'll show you how to become enlightened.” Jesus says, "I AM the light of the world!" “12Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”” (John 8:12, ESV) Other religions are built around moral teachings, things to be done or not done, but the Christian faith is built around a PERSON – Jesus – He is Who we believe in – Not a set of doctrines! 2) Do verses DONE “30When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” (John 19:30, ESV) “29Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”” (John 6:29, ESV) The message of Grace is ONLY found in the Christian faith – EXAMPLE – Both Christ and Buddha told a similar story – about a son who take his inheritance, leaves home, wastes it and finally returns home. You know how Jesus ended the story – The father RAN to the son, forgave and restored him. In the Buddhist story the son must work off his years of misdeeds by spending years as a slave. “The parables seem very different, but somehow the same. In one story the greatness is outside of ourselves in the form of God. In the other story, our own true nature is already great. But in both stories, we find peace and love and belonging.” - Ryusenflowingfountain Only One Way Because God Isn't SCHIZOPHRENIC 3) If the Evidence Fits You Must BELIEVE IT! “44Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”” (Luke 24:44, ESV) “37If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me;” (John 10:37, ESV) “22He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth.” (1 Peter 2:22, ESV) 4) Yeah But What About Those Who HAVENT' HEARD? “25Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?”” (Genesis 18:25, ESV) “29“The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.” (Deuteronomy 29:29, ESV) “5Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.” (1 Corinthians 4:5, ESV) 5) Don't Take My Word For It CHECK IT OUT FOR YOURSELF! “5You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin.” (1 John 3:5, ESV) “21And Jesus asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. 22And it has often cast him into fire and into water, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” 23And Jesus said to him, “ ‘If you can'! All things are possible for one who believes.” 24Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”” (Mark 9:21–24, ESV)

The first one was on January 16, and this one is about our missionary minister in India during the 1920s and 30s. His name was the Reverend Ralph Keithahn, and both his time in our church and India were controversial. Again, historical moments are simply that. However, some continue to raise questions that speak to our faith in 2022. This week, after sharing Rev. Keithahn's story, Rich will reflect on the question, “What Does Our Faith Say about Other Religions?”

Spiritual Weapon Obedience Joshua saw Jesus “Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, "Are you for us or for our enemies?" 14 "Neither," he replied, "but as commander of the army of the LORD I have now come." Then Joshua fell face down to the ground in reverence, and asked him, "What message does my Lord have for his servant?" 15 The commander of the LORD's army replied, "Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy. And Joshua did so.” (Josh. 5:13). Joshua immediately recognized that he was in his Master's presence and he then submitted totally to Him. You see, being in His presence is an honor, a distinction that other religions don't get to have with their gods. Too often we Christians take Gods' presence for granted and we don't give it the reverence and honor that it deserves. The first thing that Joshua was told was "take off your sandals; you are standing on Holy ground." Jesus is Lord! He is the King of Kings and His word never fails. He is omnipotent. We will NEVER achieve what God has for us if we refuse to listen to Him because it's "too much work" for us. God will NOT make every wall in your life come down easily....though you will never know how many walls This is such a powerful illustration of Jesus working through a submitted person's obedience to His Word. Joshua saw into the spiritual realm a man with a drawn sword. He had to discern the supernatural spirit being and he knew that the war he was going to fight had to be fought by the power of the Spirit of God. He asked the Lord, “What message (Word) does my Lord have for his servant?"
