What if the reason you can't find peace… is because you're trying too hard to create it? Many of us approach our inner lives the same way we approach everything else—with effort, discipline, and the belief that if we just do it right, we'll finally feel calm. But often, that only leads to more pressure, more striving, and more mental noise. In this episode, I'm joined by Peter Russell, world-renowned consciousness teacher, meditation expert, and author of How to Meditate Without Even Trying. Drawing on more than fifty years of teaching and exploration, Peter offers a radically simple perspective: peace isn't something we achieve through effort—it's something we discover when we stop trying to control the mind. Together, we explore why meditation doesn't have to be a struggle, how to work with overthinking, what it means to let go of doing, and why there may be nowhere to get to after all. If you've ever felt caught in self-improvement, overwhelmed by your thoughts, or like inner peace is always just out of reach, this conversation may offer a gentler—and surprisingly liberating—way forward.

"What if the very thing you've been searching for your entire life has been here all along?" Why does it often feel like something is missing? You achieve the goal. You reach the milestone. You find the relationship. You have the experience. Yet before long, the mind begins searching again for the next thing, the next answer, the next version of yourself that promises fulfillment. Beneath so much of our striving is a quiet belief that peace, happiness, or meaning exists somewhere else. In this profound episode of Soul Talk, Kute Blackson sits down with renowned consciousness teacher Peter Russell for a conversation that challenges some of our deepest assumptions about who we are, why we're here, and what truly matters. Drawing from more than five decades of exploring consciousness, meditation, and human awakening, Peter shares a refreshingly simple yet powerful perspective: beneath the noise of the mind, beneath the roles we play, and beneath the endless stories we tell ourselves, there is an unchanging presence that has been with us our entire lives. Together, they explore the nature of awareness, the deeper meaning of meditation, the human longing for connection, and why love may be far more fundamental to life than we realize. As the conversation unfolds, Peter offers a perspective that is both liberating and deeply grounding: perhaps fulfillment doesn't come from becoming more, but from removing the barriers to what is already here. If you've ever felt caught in the endless pursuit of something more, questioned the meaning of your life, or wondered what remains when everything else falls away, this conversation may help you discover that what you're seeking has been closer than you ever imagined. In this meditation, inspired again by my conversation with Peter Russell, we are simply being aware of what is present through sensation. It is such a beautiful way to be fully present, to allow the mind to wander with sensations in the body. The body carries such wisdom, and as you begin to learn to tune into the body you will begin a conversation with your body that it deeply appreciates! Working with the Chakra system allows us to dive deep into the messages from the body, and this is the beginning of a beautiful conversation with the Self.Much loveRosanne xxPlease support the work I do by clicking herePlease reach out to work with me by clicking here

this was a natural, flowing conversation between two people exploring questions that matter. Talking to someone who has a lifetime of meditation experience is one thing, but talking to someone as knowledgable and articulate as Peter Russell, who has written 11 books on the subject was an absolute joy. In this conversation we discussed so much - from the simplicity that meditation is, how to deal with discomfort and resistance within a meditation practice, to the nature of consciousness and he interconnectedness of humanity and what that means for our collective evolution and awakening. Peter's new book How to Meditate Without Even Trying is out now including the forward written by his good friend and colleague Eckhart Tolle. Inspired by my conversation with Peter Russell (interview out on Thursday!) this meditation is bringing our meditation practice back to the beautiful basics. I was inspired by a phrase that Peter used - "nowhere to be, nothing to do" - and in this meditation we practice being fully present, aware only that, in this moment, there is nowhere to be and nothing to do! When we can expand that out into the rest of our lives we can find more peace, more contentment in each present moment. I hope you find some stillness and peace within this meditation.Much loveRosanne xxPlease support this podcast by clicking hereFind out about my work by clicking here

Peter Russell has spent over 50 years exploring one of the most quietly radical ideas of our time: that the mind doesn't need to be forced, pushed, or perfected — it just needs to be allowed to rest. In this episode of The Spiritual Perspective Conversations, Light Watkins and Peter Russell take us from his childhood on the English coast, through his time studying under Stephen Hawking at Cambridge, to sitting with Maharishi in India, and eventually getting banned by the very movement he valued the most. Along the way, he shares what decades of meditation teaching — and a lifetime of curious, honest inquiry have revealed about the nature of the mind, presence, and what it actually means to just sit quietly with yourself.Key Insights:Meditation is effortless by design. The moment you try to control your mind, you've already gone off track. Peter learned this directly from Maharishi: the whole point is to allow the mind to settle naturally, not force it into stillness.Monkey mind isn't a problem. Thoughts showing up during meditation isn't a sign you're doing it wrong. It's completely natural. The skill is simply noticing when you've followed a thought, and gently choosing not to follow it anymore.Stress needs a release valve. Pressure in life isn't inherently bad but without a way to decompress, you become a walking pressure cooker. Meditation is that release valve, and even 15 minutes can feel like a vacation.Micro-meditations count. You don't need a cushion or a scheduled sit. Peter keeps sticky notes around his home that just say "pause." A few conscious breaths between tasks done 20 or 50 times a day can quietly transform how you move through life.Letting go means letting in first. When something uncomfortable surfaces in meditation, the instinct is to push it away. Peter's discovery: go to the body, get curious about the sensation, and let it in. That's when it starts to soften and dissolve on its own.The deepest part of you never changes. Beneath the ego, the persona, and the noise of daily life is a quiet sense of "I am" that has always been there. Learning to recognize and rest in that what Peter calls being is the heart of the whole practice.Great teachers speak from experience, not just knowledge. What struck Peter most about both Maharishi and Eckhart Tolle wasn't their intellect but it was that they were teaching from something they had genuinely lived. That's what made their words land differently.More about Peter's work: https://www.peterrussell.com/Get Peter's new book, How to Meditate Without Even Trying: https://www.peterrussell.com/HMWETbook/index.phpSend us a text message. In this episode, Guy talked with Peter Russell, an author, guide, and meditation teacher. He discussed his deep-seated interest in consciousness and the ways in which we can achieve a natural state of contentment. He emphasized the importance of letting go of societal-induced discontent and our attachments to material things. The conversation navigated through topics such as the ego, our emotional responses, and how simple mindfulness practices can transform our perspectives and lives. Peter also explained his motivations and findings in his latest book, 'Letting Go of Nothing,' and gave insights into his daily routines and thoughts on the rapidly changing world. About Peter: Peter Russell is on the faculty of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, a fellow of The World Business Academy and The Findhorn Foundation, and an Honorary Member of The Club of Budapest. At Cambridge University (UK), he studied mathematics and theoretical physics. Then, as he became increasingly fascinated by the mysteries of the human mind, he changed to experimental psychology. Pursuing this interest, he traveled to India to study meditation and eastern philosophy, and on his return took up the first research post ever offered in Britain on the psychology of meditation. He also has a postgraduate degree in computer science, and conducted some of the early work on 3-dimensional displays, presaging by some twenty years the advent of virtual reality. In the 1970s, he was one of the first people to introduce human potential seminars into the corporate field, and for twenty years ran programs for senior management on creativity, stress management, personal development, and sustainable development. Clients have included IBM, Apple, Digital, American Express, Barclays Bank, Swedish Telecom, ICI, Shell Oil and British Petroleum. In 1982 he coined the term "Global Brain" with his 1980s bestseller of the same name in which he predicted the Internet and the impact it would have. I was honored and proud to host yet another member of the Villanova Wildcat Crew, my friend Peter Russell. To say that Peter and I have a few things in common would be an understatement and it wouldn't do our friendship justice.  First and foremost, we both appreciate energy, and we embrace the people that exude positive energy, starting with two of the most beautiful souls in the universe, Rainer “TITAN” Jenss and Tom Staib.  God rest both of their souls.Peter shares how he became a Wildcat and what those wild days in the mid-1980's meant to him.  You'll hear Peter and I speak of characters like John Coates, Tim “Tmac” McGuire, Bill Schroeder, Andy Taccetta, Kevin Taylor, and “Miracle on the Hudson” survivor, Steve O'Brien. Then we shift to present day where Peter reveals what kind of music makes him truly feel alive, including Dave Matthews Band, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and Billie Eilish, to name a few.  He reveals a band name that I had never heard before, Manchester Orchestra, and I'm so glad he did.  Check these guys out, trust me.Peter opens up about why, after 30 years, he chose to leave the world of media and launch a self-funded video-based, online mentorship platform for young adults, called Kindling https://www.gokindling.com/ He describes how Kindling helps young adults cultivate personal agency, empowering them to thrive personally and professionally.  Although the program is suited primarily for adults from 18-29, Kindling can be the spark for anyone that wants to foster change and self-improvement.Finally, Peter pays tribute to his family.  Having recently lost his ultimate mentor, his father, Jack, he shares how and why Jack's character has been a lifelong inspiration.Join us, and let's see where the energy takes us!Tight Pants SNL https://youtu.be/Nv7Ts4v5_Bs?si=1Lp1zqALTPrEj7YoAll Along the Watchtower https://youtu.be/QLvNVtTtqao?si=BtbIDTr_FxOMzFKCGod Only Knows https://music.apple.com/us/album/god-only-knows/1440850596?i=1440852180The Sunshine https://music.apple.com/us/album/the-sunshine/1440945297?i=1440945308 (edited)

What would it take to relax your mind? Is it possible? My all-star special guest today is Peter Russell and he's simplifying how to relax your mind. Spoiler alert: it's all about letting go of your mindset as holding on creates tension and unmet expectations. Peter shows us that what we get hung up on are generally not the tangible problems we face in the present… but rather, the thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and expectations that we have about them. This is what trips us up, yet they aren't actual things… they only exist in our mind. So, when we learn to strip them of their power, we relax our minds and gain greater peace of mind, no matter what turbulence might be happening around us. The spiritual teaching of nonduality, which stems from the Indian philosophy of advaita, teaches that consciousness is the primary reality, the fundamental essence of the cosmos. On the other hand, the current scientific worldview holds that the physical world is primary, and that consciousness somehow, in ways that we do not yet understand, emerges from it. Both views have their challenges. If consciousness is primary, why do we not see it in all things? Conversely if the physical world is primary, how does consciousness arise from something as insentient matter? Peter Russell proposes that the solution to these problems lies in the recognition that information is fundamental to both realities, and physical reality, as we conceive of it, is but a representation of the external world appearing in the mind. This turns our current worldview inside-out; and into one that both beliefs can inhabit. --- Peter Russell studied theoretical physics, experimental psychology, and computer science at the University of Cambridge. He then went to India, to study meditation and Eastern philosophy, and on his return conducted research on the psychology of meditation. A leading thinker on consciousness and contemporary spirituality, he coined the term "global brain" with his 1980s' bestseller of the same name in which he predicted the Internet and the impact it would have on humanity. Other books include The Awakening Earth, Waking Up in Time, From Science to God, and his most recent, Letting Go of Nothing. Peter is a fellow of The World Business Academy, The Institute of Noetic Sciences, The Findhorn Foundation, and an Honorary Member of The Club of Budapest. --- Interview Links: — Peter's website: www.peterrussell.com/index.php — Peter's books: https://amzn.to/3WRrnhd

Peter Russell is an author, speaker and leading thinker on consciousness and contemporary spirituality. Join us in this compelling episode with a luminary whose journey from theoretical physics to spiritual traditions and meditation offers profound insights. Peter's principal interest is the deeper, spiritual significance of the times we are passing through, believing the critical challenge today is freeing human thinking from the limited beliefs and attitudes that lie behind many of our problems - personal, social, and global. His reflections on consciousness, ego and the essence of spiritual traditions reveal the significance of expanding our awareness in an increasingly materialistic world. Peter shares his early explorations in India and subsequent shift towards Eastern philosophy, providing a fresh perspective on how spiritual teachings can guide us in addressing personal and global challenges. Discover the visionary idea of the "global brain," a concept Peter introduced in the early 1980s, where humanity acts as a kind of collective nervous system for our planet. We discuss how this interconnectedness - amplified by recent developments in AI and technology - holds the potential to both enhance and endanger human evolution. We delve into the fascinating question, "Can AI be conscious"? As we explore the nature of consciousness, Peter guides us through the intricate connection between meditation and self-awareness. His insights into finding stillness of mind and understanding the true self underscore the transformative power of meditation in fostering compassion and awareness. We ponder meaningful coincidences, Jung's synchronicity, and how stepping beyond our ego-driven selves might connect us to a collective consciousness. This conversation invites listeners to reflect on the mysteries of existence and the potential global impact of our spiritual awakening.Peter earned a first-class honors degree in theoretical physics and psychology - as well as a master's degree in computer science - at the University of Cambridge, England. He is on the faculty of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, a fellow of The World Business Academy and The Findhorn Foundation, and an Honorary Member of The Club of Budapest, and President of Science and NonDuality. peterrussell.comLiked what you heard? Today's guest is screenwriter and Hollywood script doctor Peter Douglas Russell. I wanted to go deep into the back alleys of what Hollywood script doctors actually do in the business. Peter's conversation was eye-opening, to say the least.Peter Russell sold two television pilots in 2017. He enjoys working on projects both as a ghostwriter and as a consultant.  And he can both write and teach what he knows. So many successful screenwriters and producers have no idea how to teach what they do, and so many teachers can't actually sell stories. But Peter does both. Peter was UCLA's Teacher of the Year in 2009. He invented (along with his then partner Cecilia Najar) a process called The Storymaker which you can use to quickly develop an original, complex, vivid story from a single idea — and the Storymaker is helping scores of his students shape wonderful stories.Peter started as a story analyst in the 1990s and has read over 6,000+ screenplays for major film and television giants including Imagine Entertainment, Participant Productions, HBO, CBS, Walden Entertainment and dozens of others. As he read these scripts, he started seeing deep, hidden patterns in the best stories. He wrote these down and started getting jobs FIXING writer's stories. He got good at it — really good.Peter was invited to teach at UCLA in 2004, and it became a passion, too.  He has now been invited to teach television pilot and film story creation at Pepperdine University's Seaver College Screenwriting MFA program, at Story Expo in LA and New York, and many others. Meanwhile, Peter has turned The Storymaker into the most powerful tool for helping storytellers create original vivid stories. Simply and quickly.Enjoy my conversation with Peter Douglas Russell.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/indie-film-hustle-a-filmmaking-podcast--2664729/support.

Drawing on the landmark achievements of modern mathematics and quantum physics, Frenkel makes the case that consciousness is not computational, that intuition and imagination cannot be captured by algorithms. A regular presenter at the SAND conferences, Frenkel has long argued that the debate about the capabilities and dangers of artificial intelligence can be traced to the question “Who am I?” Hence it creates an opportunity for us to go deeper on the path of self-inquiry. To facilitate this process, it is essential to let go of the misconceptions of the science of the 19th century and to update our worldview with the paradigms of the science of the 21st century. Earlier this week, we shared part one of this all-star conversation, all about how to relax your mind. Now, I'm not talking about numbing out or escaping from the stress and overwhelm but actually getting to a state of peace about where things are at, personally and professionally for you. Is it possible? Now, if you haven't heard part one, go back and listen to that one first. But if you're ready to continue on, let's pick back up here with my conversation with Peter Russell as he simplifies how to relax your mind.  It's time to simplify…Here's how.  My special guest today is Peter Russell and he's simplifying how to relax your mind. We tackle and simplify all aspects of it, including: For many “Type A control freaks,” it's hard to let go… Peter shows us a better way, letting in and letting be In a culture that glorifies BUSY, how to return to a natural (relaxed) mind, yet still get things done What the parable of the rope is and how it applies to our minds If we release our thoughts, feelings, interpretations, beliefs and expectations, what's left? What you could hold on to that creates a sense of identity and safety …and ultimately, how this practice of relaxing your mind helps to improve your relationships both personally and professionally. What would it take to relax your mind? Now, I'm not talking about numbing out or escaping from the stress and overwhelm but actually getting to a state of peace about where things are at, personally and professionally for you. Is it possible? My all-star special guest today is Peter Russell and he's simplifying how to relax your mind. Spoiler alert: it's all about letting go of your mindset as holding on creates tension and unmet expectations. Peter shows us that what we get hung up on are generally not the tangible problems we face in the present… but rather, the thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and expectations that we have about them. This is what trips us up, yet they aren't actual things… they only exist in our mind. So, when we learn to strip them of their power, we relax our minds and gain greater peace of mind, no matter what turbulence might be happening around us.
