ICYMI: On Midday Mobile Sean Sullivan called Mobile County (@Team Sheriff) Sheriff Paul Burch for our monthly installment every 2nd Tuesday of "Ask the Sheriff".  Several texts and calls were about the Prichard police department and the California riots. Sheriff Burch says that plans are in place and there have been rumors of rioting in Mobile.  The Sheriff and Police Department are working toghether.  Sheriff Burch talked about what would happen if someone tries to block the tunnel. The Sheriff also discussed the Saenger Shooting and the gun violence in the city.

Jennifer Vertentes was a police officer in Providence Rhode Island when she decided to go to Hasbro Children's Hospital on Thanksgiving Day of 2018 to meet kids who had to spend their Thanksgiving being treated for different reasons, including being treated for Pediatric Cancer. While she was there she met 3 year old Emerson Lucier who was going through her 3rd battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia . This meeting inspired Jennifer to start her HERO PACKAGE FOUNDATION to help put a smile on the faces of these kids who were battling these difficult diseases. Jennifer, who in 2023 had to retire from the Police Department after suffering an injury while trying to save a person who was drowning, was also diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer that year. Fortunately for the Pediatric Cancer community, she continues to help these kids as she deals with her disease, that fortunately was diagnosed at a very early stage.

County executives dispute federal designation Officials from Dutchess and Putnam counties say they should not be listed with New York State and other localities, including Beacon, on a roster of jurisdictions the Department of Homeland Security accuses of "obstructing" the Trump administration's effort to deport millions of undocumented immigrants. The list, released on Thursday (May 29) to comply with a presidential order, includes more than 500 jurisdictions, including New York state, 15 of its counties and 12 of its cities, identifying them as "sanctuaries" for immigrants who live in the country without authorization. [Update: the list was removed by DHS as of June 1 but is archived here.] Those states and municipalities, including Orange and Westchester counties and Newburgh and Poughkeepsie, are accused by the DHS of "deliberately and shamefully obstructing" federal immigration enforcement and protecting "dangerous criminal aliens." The agency demands that they "immediately review and revise their policies to align with federal immigration laws," but also cautions that the list is subject to change and "no one should act on this information without conducting their own evaluation" of the municipalities. Many municipalities have disputed their inclusion on the list, including Putnam and Dutchess counties. On Friday (May 30), Kevin Byrne, the Putnam executive, said: "Let's set the record straight: Putnam County is not a sanctuary county and never will be on my watch as county executive. We have consistently worked with our partners in law enforcement and encourage the continued collaboration and sharing of information with all federal, state and local law enforcement." Despite Putnam being named by DHS as a sanctuary jurisdiction, Byrne also on Friday posted on Facebook a video in which he accuses "liberal journalists at the Wall Street Journal," which published a story about the agency's announcement, of "inaccurately" adding Putnam to the list "before gathering all the facts." He added that "the bias media is wrong and needs to get the facts straight." In Dutchess, County Executive Sue Serino said on Friday that the county has contacted its federal representatives - Sens. Kirsten Gillebrand and Chuck Schumer and U.S. Rep. Pat Ryan - "for further clarity" and help getting the county removed from the list. "It is unclear how this list was developed, as DHS has not contacted us with any concerns, and the Dutchess County Legislature has never adopted any resolution relating to sanctuary jurisdiction," said Serino. On Monday (June 2), Beacon Mayor Lee Kyriacou read a statement at the City Council meeting: "It is absolutely not the case that the city is deliberately obstructing the enforcement of federal immigration laws. While the city has yet to receive any formal communication from the federal government, we remain confident the city is abiding by all applicable state and federal laws and judicial orders. Our city and our Police Department remain committed to protecting public safety, and any statements to the contrary are misleading and inaccurate." Neither Dutchess or Putnam has approved policies limiting cooperation with federal immigration authorities, and Dutchess sued New York City in 2023 when it began contracting with hotels in the Hudson Valley to house immigrants. That same year, Byrne and the Putnam Legislature adopted a resolution declaring the county a "rule of law" jurisdiction and pledging cooperation with federal immigration officers to identify "arrested felons and gang-associated" individuals suspected of being in the country illegally. Beacon restricted its role in immigration enforcement during the first Trump administration, when the City Council in April 2017 unanimously passed a resolution declaring the city to be "welcoming, safe and inclusive." Its resolution deliberately avoided the word sanctuary (Trump had threatened to withhold funding from "sanctuary cities") but said that city employees and...

Assaults On Kids, Intervention and Investigations, His Experience. Retired Georgia Detective Shares the Harsh Truth About Investigations Into Assaults On Kids. With 25 years in law enforcement, Bryan's journey took him from a city Police Department to the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office in south-central Georgia, where he served as a Detective. Known for its strong community ties and rich history, the Sheriff's Office there operates with a mission rooted in justice, dignity, and community service. Did you know, there hasn't been a Sheriff in Miami-Dade County in almost 60 years.  Well, in January of 2025, the Miami-Dade Police Department became the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office (MDSO).  With that, there's a new Sheriff in town!! This month, Joe sits and talks with Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz.  The MDSO is the largest sheriff's office in the southeastern United States and operates out of eight district stations throughout Miami-Dade County. Send us a textOn April 26, 2025, a shooting occurred in Myrtle Beach S.C. on Ocean Boulevard in the city's downtown area. There were 11 people injured and one person, the alleged gunman, was killed by an officer of the Myrtle Beach Police Department. This podcast is produced in Myrtle Beach, and it just so happened that our host, Randal Wallace, was only one block away at an area restaurant when the shooting occured. Wallace was also a former city councilman in Myrtle Beach for 16 years, and just a year and a half ago, ran for the city council again. We wanted to take this episode to share, respectfully, some thoughts on the situation that he witnessed first hand as it unfolded on that weekend. We also wanted to provide an outlet for our local listeners to be able to hear the press conference the local authorities had on Thursday to answer questions many of the citizens had about the events last Saturday night. Mr. Wallace also wanted to thank our local Police Department on the extraordinary response they had to the events, and send out our thoughts and prayers to the 11 people injured in the situation that unfolded. He will also share some thoughts he had on how to help prevent these type of issues in the future. His thoughts include: 1. Heavily Advertise both the no tolerance policy for crime in Myrtle Beach and the fact that the city has thousands of state of the art camera and video systems through out. If you come here and misbehave you will be caught. We ran radio ads all over the States of North and South Carolina after a shooting in the early 2000's and that effort did work during the next couple of years. That should be even easier to implement today given the readily accessible access to the internet available now which was not the case during the time of my service on council. 2. Make the Downtown property owners, the businesses, and employees your ally not your adversary in changing the atmosphere in the area. They can be your best friends in combating these issues if you will let them be on your team. Through all the years I have been involved with the city these people have often not felt that way. This has been an ongoing issue. 3. Grow an atmosphere with the downtown merchants, property owners, and employees where they feel like they have a say in the future of the area. Any successful redevelopment will have to come organically from them and any attempt to force change on them, as has been proven, will consistently fail. On Christmas Eve in 1991, Dana Ireland is found tucked away in a secluded, hard to get to area of the Hawaiian subdivision Vacationland, barely clinging to life.
