Greenbelt Reversal: Unearthing Ontario's Real Estate Controversy

Ontario Premier Doug Ford has reversed his decision to open up the Greenbelt for development, following backlash from opposition parties, media investigations, and findings by the province's auditor general and Ethics commissioner. The report suggests developers had inside information about the lifting of restrictions on the Greenbelt and could make up to $8.5 billion by redeveloping it. As a result, two cabinet ministers have resigned. This isn't going away, especially with ongoing accusations of corruption. The reversal comes as part of Ford's More Homes Built Faster legislation, which aims to build 150,000 new homes a year over the next 10 years to address the housing crisis. Here's today's rundown: Canada has Indian diplomats' communications in bombshell murder probe: sources -- Should Canada release the evidence it has? Is there too much risk? What can we do to get more countries vocal on this? Cross-country rallies against 'gender ideology' in schools meet with counter-protests -- This is a complicated topic and it got hairy in some cities earlier this week: how do you view each side of this argument and the growing tension between the progressive wing and this backlash? Ontario Premier Doug Ford apologizes, reverses plan to develop Greenbelt -- Can the Ford government recover here? Why let this controversy go so long? What lessons can other premiers take from this? Ukrainian President Zelenskyy in Canada, to address Parliament (pushed back to include clips of parliamentary address) -- Are people/countries losing interest? Should Canada be doing more? What's the next move? Tomorrow is the first day of fall – Is this the best season? What are you looking forward to about autumn? Is it overhyped?
