On today's episode, Andrew shares his views on the ways AI could take on more complex projects while using fewer resources. In the way of AI's rapid progress, however, are slow advancements in hardware. While AI has made huge strides in cognition, he says, hardware struggles to match its capabilities, especially in wearable tech and robotics. Still, Andrew envisions a future with hyper-personalized digital assistants for everyone. Study Guide Bava Metzia 117 Today’s daf is sponsored by the Hadran Women of Long Island in honor of the birth of a granddaughter, daughter of Aliza and Chesky Gewirtz, to our friend and co-learner Deena Rabinovich. "May the Rabinovich and Gewirtz families see much nachat as the new "Hadran Daf Addition" grows to Torah (and Daf), chuppa and maasim tovim, and may this simcha bring joy, peace, and healing to the Jewish nation and the world."  If the landlord lives downstairs and the tenant lives upstairs and there is a hole in the upstairs floor, the tenant can move downstairs. Does the owner need to move out? If not, is the tenant allowed to use the same entrance or can only enter from the upstairs? What if there were three floors, if the hole is in the middle floor, can the tenant be moved upstairs? If two people share a house (one upstairs and one downstairs) if the limestone that covers the floor upstairs wears away and there is a leak from the upstairs to the downstairs, who is responsible for fixing it? Is it connected to the debate in our Mishna between the rabbis and Rabbi Yosi about a tenant/landlord and who fixes the plaster when there is a hole in the floor upstairs? The Gemara rejects the comparison to the Mishna but connects it to a different debate in Bava Batra 25b about whose responsibility it is to prevent future damage - the one who may damage or the one whose items may become damaged? If a house collapses and the lower owner does not want to rebuild, what options does the upper floor owner have?  Is there a pattern that can be found in various halachic decisions of Rabbi Yehuda that he holds that one cannot benefit from the money/property of another without the other's consent? The Gemara first brings three opinions of Rabbi Yehuda in different contexts to prove this, but each is then explained based on different reasoning. In rebuilding a house that fell apart, the upstairs and downstairs owners must each be careful to use the same type of bricks/ceilings/height/number of windows as before unless the change will not negatively affect the other owner. What changes are good/bad for each owner? If one has an olive press built into a rock and another has a garden above it, if the ceiling of the olive press collapses, the garden owner can plant on the floor of the olive press. If one's tree or wall fell/collapsed into the street, the owner is not responsible for damages, unless the owner was warned by the court and did not take it down. If it fell onto another's property, what are the rights of the owner/neighbor regarding the debris?

Hafiz al-Assad was the President of Syria between 1970 and 2000. Father of present Syrian leader Bashar, Hafiz inherited a country in disarray, beset by political and religious division at home, and subject to interference from regional powers. Displaying extraordinary brutality, Hafiz imposed order on Syria's diverse population and also turned his country into an important decision maker. His troops intervened in Lebanon's dreadful civil war, and occupied large parts of the country for the rest of Hafiz's life. As well as cementing Hafiz's own position, this also strengthened Assad's hand in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Hafiz understood that for small countries, geopolitical success rests on making yourself difficult to be dispensed of, or overlooked. The career of my guest today shows how well Hafiz did this; in conjunction with his role as Israeli Ambassador to the United States, Itamar Rabinovich was Israel's Chief Negotiator with Syria from 1993 until 1996, at a time when many believed that peace between Israel and Palestine hinged upon Syrian recognition of Israel. Rabinovich has dedicated his life to researching Syria, and its relations (or lack thereof) with Israel, and is the author of 14 books on the country.

Navigating through the intricate web of Middle Eastern geopolitics, few are better equipped to provide insights than Itamar Rabinovich in his compelling book, Middle Eastern Maze: Israel, The Arabs, and the Region 1948-2022 (Brookings Institution Press, 2023). In this update to his earlier work, The Lingering Conflict published by Brookings in 2012, Rabinovich delves deeper, and informs readers on the recent twists and turns of the Middle East conflict. With a storied career as both an academic historian and a diplomat — notably, Israel's ambassador to the U.S and a peace negotiator with Syria — Rabinovich brings a unique blend of scholarly rigor and real-world experience. This allows him to place Arab-Israeli dynamics not just as a standalone issue but within the broader canvas of Middle Eastern regional and international politics. A significant highlight of the book is Rabinovich's attention to the evolving roles of regional powerhouses Iran and Turkey. However, his analysis doesn't stop there. The United States, being a global superpower with intricate ties to the Middle East, gets its due attention, especially its special relationship with Israel and the transitions in its Middle Eastern policy from the Trump era to the Biden administration. The book is timely and relevant, covering pivotal moments and shifts, such as: The groundbreaking Abraham Accords signified a fresh direction in Arab-Israeli relations. Russia's decisive military intervention exacerbated the tumultuous Syrian civil war and its far-reaching implications. The rise and subsequent decline of the formidable Islamic State. The mounting tensions surrounding the Iranian nuclear ambitions. And lastly, Israel's own internal challenges marked by prolonged political instability. For those seeking a nuanced understanding of Middle Eastern geopolitics and the ever-evolving Arab-Israeli relationship, Middle Eastern Maze promises to be an instructive read, enriched by the author's unique vantage point at the intersection of history, diplomacy, and contemporary politics. No, this does not include buying reviews, begging for reviews, or doing anything that toes the line of Amazon's TOS. He is all about surprise and delight. And I couldn't agree more! I learned things from Tomer about reviews that I haven't heard ANYWHERE else…and I've been doing this for a while. Here's a look at what we cover:Why the raw number of 5-star reviews for you or your competitors isn't what matters most, and how to shift your focus to the 5-star review RATE instead. Why 4-star reviews hurt your listings.5 keys to a 6-star experience on Amazon that you probably have yet to think of.Creative ways to delight customers without spending more. Tomer Rabinovich is a self-taught Amazon business owner, consultant to some of the biggest names in the online sales industry, and one of the most sought-after speakers at Amazon seller events throughout the world. Today, he shares his book, Ride the Amazon Wave. What do we do after we exit? Tomer categorizes it in 3 different stages. Stage 1: Junk - Start to remove bad habits. Once you start getting good results on your sales, what tends to happen is you get to the next stage. Stage 2: Empty - It means you don't do anything else except your work. All you do is just work. Stage 3: Healthy - Getting new hobbies, reading more books, spending time with family. What's your big WHY? I like working in increments and sprints and then kind of relax and take some time off. I think that's really important.
