The Journey to Becoming | Self Improvement, Productivity, Lower Stress
Have you ever had a moment where God showed up in the most unexpected, tiny detail—and it changed everything? In this heartfelt episode of The Journey to Becoming, I'm sharing a very personal story of how God met me during a week of emotional highs and lows. It all started with another podcast about the power of having a designated prayer space, and what happened next reminded me just how intimately God sees and cares for every part of our lives. Through a simple gift—a chair—I felt a divine invitation to deepen my time with the Lord and create space for breakthrough prayer. This episode is about so much more than furniture; it's about recognizing the voice of God in the small things, growing in intimacy with Him, and learning to keep our eyes open for His presence in every corner of our lives. If you've ever wondered whether God is really paying attention to the little things, this episode is for you. Let it encourage you to believe again that nothing goes unnoticed by our loving Father.

Miscarriage is a devastaing loss to navigate. In 2021, Simeon and I lost a baby that we named Victory. That was a dark trial for us to walk through as a couple, but it was a loss that also affected our entire family. Though our children were young, we decided to tell them of their sibling that went to heaven. I have been asked before for advice on helping your children process miscarriage. Every family grieves differently, and ultimately if you tell and how much you tell your child is up to the discretion of the parents. I will say from our experience, it has been good for our entire family to be able to speak of and remember our baby. In this episode, Simeon and I share advice on how you can navigate this heartbreaking topic with your children, giving space to grieve while claiming the hope that is found in Christ. How do I find joy in motherhood? How do I grow in patience as a mother? How can I be more gentle in my responses to my children? We all ask those questions as mothers. There is no doubt that motherhood is a sanctifying work. The fruit of the spirit (joy, patience, gentleness) aren't things we can "work up" on our own. Growth can only be accomplished through the Holy Spirit's work in us! Developing the fruit of the spirit in our lives is a byproduct of abiding in Christ. We need to be abiding mothers! Mothers who abide in CHrist- His power, His Word, His strength, His forgiveness, His love. Good morning, good morning, good morning! Rise and grind, brothers! It's that time again to get into the Word. Today, we're diving deep into Psalm 27:11 and exploring the powerful theme of letting God teach us His ways and lead us on a well-lit path. In this episode, I share a recent personal experience where, despite the challenges, I could declare "all is well" because I'm rooted in God's Word. We reflect on the importance of having a personal relationship with God—something more than just being active in the church. It's about truly knowing Him, spending time with Him, and letting Him guide our steps. We also discuss the distractions and "noise" that keep us from focusing on God. Whether it's work, family, or even our own thoughts, these things can pull us away from our spiritual path. But today, we're reminded to quiet that noise, carve out time for God, and seek His direction in every area of our lives. Key Scripture: Psalm 27:11 - "Teach me your way, Lord; lead me on a level path because of my enemies." Discussion Points: The necessity of a personal relationship with God beyond just being active in church. The importance of spending daily time with God to learn His ways. How distractions and noise in our lives can prevent us from hearing God's voice. Call to Action: Quiet the noise in your life, whatever that may be—distractions, bad habits, or anything else keeping you from God. Spend intentional, focused time in prayer, seeking God's guidance for your life. Share this episode with a brother who needs to hear this word and encourage him to join you on this journey. "A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices," There are many things in this life that make us weary. Yet we, as Christians, have the hope of the Lord Jesus Christ! In the midst of our weariness, we delight in the hope that He gives. This is a hope that passes all understanding. It brings a deep peace, contentment, and joy unlike anything else in this world. Isreal was weary of waiting for the hope of the coming Messiah. Christ was the fufillment of all Old Testament prophesy. He came not just to be born in a manger, but to die on a cross so that sinful mankind can be reconciled to God. That truth alone brings such hope! Whatever brings weariness to your heart, may this Christmas message fill you with a thrill of hope and give you reason to rejoice. We come to the final episode in our Psalm 23 Bible study series, and what a study this has been! From the field to the house, we have seen the Shepherd tenderly, lovingly guiding His sheep through all the highs and lows the path brings. He has promised that at the end of our journey, we can look forward to dwelling in His house forever. What is the highlight of this dwelling place? It is not the destination, it is the Lord Himself! Proverbs 23:5 "Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:" Before we are in the presence of our enemies, desperate for the nourishment that the Shepherd provides, He has already prepared a table for us. Loving care is required when laying a table, and no one prepares a table like Jesus! "What a tragedy when Christ prepares a table for me, yet I don't stop and grumble about my weariness as I walk by." -Evangelist Scott Pauley In the moments of intense battle and spiritual depletion, may we stop at the table the Shepherd has provided and find the refreshment we so desperately need. The topic of pregnancy after miscarriage is one that is rarely addressed. Maybe because it is often interwoven with deep grief and conflicting emotions. The Lord blessed Simeon and I with 3 babies, then we lost a baby in 2021. Since that loss, God has blessed us with 2 more babies. We are so grateful for every life He's entrusted to our care, whether it was for days or years. Pregnancy after miscarriage is different from pregnancy without experiencing loss. I have to battle doubts, fears, and emotions that I never dealt with in my first three pregnancies. A part of my heart wants to scream, "It's not fair!" But the reality is, we live in a broken, sin-cursed world and death is a part of the brokeness. Satan wants to keep my heart focused on my lack of control and his lies against God's character and promises. I have to fight to keep truth on the throne of my heart. But God gives victory! In Him, we find hope, joy, and a perfect peace that casts out all fear. In this episode, I share my personal struggles with pregnancy after miscarriage and what God is teaching me about His character and love in the midst of my greatest joys and my greatest sorrows. Psalm 23:4 "thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." Psalm 23 is all about our present Shepherd. He is with us! Praise God for His faithful, constant presence in our lives. In this episode, we discuss the Shepherd, our protector, and how He uses the rod and staff as tools of His protection. Just as as shepherd uses the rod and staff for the care of his sheep, our great Shepherd uses the rod (God's Word) and the staff (the Holy Spirit) to keep us under His wing of safety and security. Psalm 23:4 "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me;" Deep trials are a reality of life because we live in a broken, sin-cursed world. Yet, our gentle Shepherd reminds us that in the midst of the darkest valleys, we need not fear! How can that be so? Because of the Shepherd's presence. We can weather the storms of life victorious because Christ walks with us. The journey we walk is worth the endurance required. The valleys provide blessings that nothing else can provide. They make us dependent upon Christ. They provide a way to higher ground. They provide wisdom we must glean to continue on the path. As we continue our jounrey through this rich Psalm, may your sould be encouraged as we learn more about the loving heart of our great Shepherd. Chelsea and I continue our series about the Christian revivals in American history. We begin the Second Great Awakening with an overview of the times, especially from 1830-1840. Following the War for Independence the colonies now had a federal compact. The expansion westward inspired more evangelism to native Americans. Methodism grew as circuit riders preached to crowds at outdoor "camp meetings."The two social causes propelling revival "fires" were abolition of slavery and temperance from alcohol. Chelsea and I continue our series about the Christian revivals in American history. We begin the Second Great Awakening with an overview of the times, especially from 1830-1840. Following the War for Independence the colonies now had a federal compact. The expansion westward inspired more evangelism to native Americans. Methodism grew as circuit riders preached to crowds at outdoor "camp meetings." The two social causes propelling revival "fires" were abolition of slavery and temperance from alcohol. Chelsea and I conclude our coverage of Colorado's three radical pro-abortion bills: SB23-188, SB23-189, and SB23-190.Last week the Colorado House of Representatives debated and rammed through three radical dystopian pro-abortion bills along party lines with no amendments. In short, the supporters want abortion on-demand at any time in pregnancy for any reason, and abortion providers are a new protected class of citizens virtually above the law. They want "gender-affirming care" and sterilization (yes, that word is in a bill) for anyone of any age without parental consent. They want health insurance providers to pay of all of this without any penalties or additional costs. They also want us to believe all the non-profit pregnancy centers are the great evil and that giving progesterone to save the lives of babies is "medical fraud."These bills themselves blatantly contradict each other, and the opposition bravely proved this beyond any doubt. The Colorado House heard untold evil spewed, and a tidal wave of truth crushing every hypocrisy uttered under Denver's golden dome.Yet, because evil holds the super majority in the House, they could care less! In fact, they had to ram these bills through without amendments! Why? Because the First Lady herself is already scheduled to celebrate the signing ceremony.Scriptures Referenced:Psalm 52:3Isaiah 5:19-21; 41:10Proverbs 1:29-33Sources Consulted:Colorado House Judiciary [Mar 28, 2023 - Upon Adjournment]Colorado House 2023 Legislative Day 081Colorado House 2023 Legislative Day 082Colorado House 2023 Legislative Day 083ACOG Practice Bulletin 225: "Medication Abortion Up to 70 Days of Gestation"Raymond, Elizabeth G et al. “Effects of Depot Medroxyprogesterone Acetate Injection Timing on Medical Abortion Efficacy and Repeat Pregnancy: A Randomized Controlled Trial.” Obstetrics and gynecology vol. 128,4 (2016): 739-45. doi:10.1097/AOG.0000000000001627

Chelsea and I continue our coverage of Colorado's three radical pro-abortion bills: SB23-188, SB23-189, and SB23-190.In this episode we walk through some details for the three bills and how they could destroy genuine health care in Colorado. Abortion providers become a new protected class immune from criminal charges, even if women die in their "care." Insurance programs must specially subsidize abortions and treatment for promiscuity. Yet, pregnancy centers become the great deceptive villains, and abortion pill reversals (progesterone) must be outlawed. We play some salient clips from the Senate floor while they debated amendments to the bills. It was like pulling teeth for the opposition even to get the accusation that pregnancy centers are "fake clinics" removed from the legislative declaration of SB23-190.As of this episode's release the bills are scheduled for committee at the House. We anticipate a long day of citizen testimonies with another 3-to-1 opposition. Of course, this ratio rarely stops the radicals in the majority from being drunk on power to press ever harder a culture of death and an abortion dystopia. Prayers for this situation are very much appreciated.Scriptures Referenced:Psalm 37:7-13Sources Consulted:Colorado Senate 2023 Legislative Day 072 Part 1 [Recording]Colorado Senate 2023 Legislative Day 072 Part 2 [Recording]

There are many reasons why sheep refuse to rest- trouble amongst the flock, pestilence, and hunger just to name a few. When the shepherd is near, he removes these issues and allows his sheep to rest in peace and contentment. The same is true for the Shepherd of our souls. Life brings many worries and anxieties to our hearts. How can we "lie down in green pastures"? How can we find the rest our soul craves? Our Shepherd Himself is the rest! There is no substitute for the awareness that the Shepherd is near. God has created us to require rest. In making our human bodies to require rest, He reveals our dependency and limitations, yet His sufficiency! Does this mean that we are doomed if we don't sleep 8 hours at night and get several naps each week? No! While physical rest is vital, there is a soul rest that supersedes all others. This soul rest provides a deep well for us to draw from as we live out our purposes in our busy lives. The more I speak with other women, the more I realize that we all have a desire for personal connection. God created us for community, for friendships that strengthen and encourage us. We want to cultivate relationships, but we often don't know where to begin. How does one "find their tribe"? In this episode, I share my personal struggle with this and how God used my search for mom friends to grow me. Brettnay from a decade ago wouldn't recognize the Brettnay today. God asked me to step out of my comfort zone, and He used that to radically change my life. The reward has been some of the most precious friendships. Because the Lord is our Shepherd, we can say with complete confidence, "I shall not want." Is Christ enough in your life? In Him, there is no lack or deficiency. He is sufficient, and He fills every void in our heart. The more we come to know the heart of our Shepherd, the more we find all we need in the person of Jesus Christ. We continue our study of Psalm 23 diving into the phrase "I shall not want." Four little words, yet packed with rich truth! Chelsea and I start a new series about the Christian revivals in American history. The controversy over the recent "Asbury revival" drove us to ask the question "What is a revival?"Using a dictionary, Scripture, and a Spurgeon quote, we come up with a working definition of a revival. Then, we dive deep into the setting of the American colonies in the 1600's and early 1700's.As church life was decaying since the first generation of pilgrims covenanted the first Congregational churches in the Massachusetts Bay colony, pastors begin to look for revival.Congregationalist churches practiced infant baptism but only granted church membership to attendees who could evidence regeneration. As the first generation's children became adults but didn't become fully covenanted members, could their children be baptized? Could they partake of the Lord's Supper? Boston pastor Richard Mather argued that the children were proper covenant members in some sense. The question remained whether to baptize children of "unregenerate" members into the third generation. In 1662, Mather collaborated on what became known as the Half-Way Covenant to revive the church with a structural and political solution. Melanie Cook is a dear friend, and the Lord has used her to be an example to me of what a Christlike woman looks like. God has chosen for her to go through several heartbreaks this year as she has faced three of her precious unborn babies going to heaven. In the midst of pain, Melanie has been a beautiful testimony of someone who has trusted their heart to the One who does all things for our good and His glory. Hard times do not wait to come when it is convenient for us. It is often in the midst of busy serving and ministering that circumstances cause us to be completely emptied of ourselves while still needing to continue with everyday life. Melanie shares lessons that God has taught her as she has come to a place of complete emptiness, yet there she found a sweetness as she relied upon God to fill her with more of Him. This is not a call to burn out, but a call to be intentional on where we get our strength and nourishment from. Truths from the lives of David, Joseph, Naomi, and Mary will encourage our hearts and redirect our perspective in empty season. David: He encouraged himself in the Lord in a time of great distress. Joseph: He sought to be full of the presence of God. Naomi: She realized God has a purpose in the empty. Mary: She was a hungry soul that found satisfaction in God. Psalm 119:68 "Thou art good, and doest good;" If you are in an empty season, remember- God is good, and He only does good! Anchor your heart to Him, and trust that He holds your heart in His hands. Note: This episode contains subject matter that may not be suitable for young children. We made our best effort to keep the information non-descriptive. "Pride Month" has become a sacred cow of secular religion. Children are increasingly targeted for grooming. The recent "Drag the Kids to Pride" event in Dallas, Texas demonstrated this as parents forced their young children to watch "drag queens" dance for money. The kids didn't want to be there for their parents' secular ritual. Commentators Alex Stein and John Doyle went there to report, chat, and preach. They revealed things the mainstream media ignored. As Christians we must be bold about the truth that the Bible clearly condemns "pride" and the goals of "Pride Month." We must be vigilant to protect our children and call sinners to repentance. We must also give the gospel in love and recognize that many of these people were deprived of a loving home. Welcome back to the Blessed and Bossed Up podcast presented by Anchored Media! In today's episode, we are wrapping up Joyce Meyer's Battlefield of the Mind, diving into the final chapter: Wilderness Mentality #10: "I'm going to do it my way or not at all." Join Tatum as she reflects on the lessons learned throughout this book and the importance of obedience to God's Word, especially when it goes against our natural tendencies or desires.Key Points:Obedience Over Sacrifice: Drawing from 1 Samuel 15:22-23, Tatum emphasizes that obedience to God is more important than any sacrifice we can make. God is looking for us to follow His will, not just do things that look good or feel right in our own eyes.End of the Wilderness Mentality: This final mentality is all about surrendering our will to God's. Tatum shares personal reflections on how this mentality has shown up in her own life, especially when things seem to be going well. It's easy to drift away from obedience when we aren't in desperate situations.Self-Reflection: Tatum challenges listeners to ask themselves, “Has my prayer life and obedience to God remained consistent, or have I become lax because my circumstances have improved?”Personal Story: Tatum opens up about how she's had to confront her own strong-willed personality in her walk with God and how being obedient to His commands, even in small matters, has transformed her faith journey.Legacy of Obedience: Tatum encourages parents and leaders to consider the long-term impact of their obedience or disobedience on those they influence. Using examples from her own life and Joyce Meyer's, she illustrates how our actions can influence future generations.Scriptures Referenced:Psalm 78:7-8 – Highlighting the stubbornness of the Israelites and the consequences of disobedience.1 Samuel 15:22-23 – Saul's disobedience and the importance of obedience over sacrifice.Ecclesiastes 12:13 – The conclusion of King Solomon's wisdom, emphasizing obedience as the ultimate duty of man.Takeaways:Obedience is a Daily Choice: It's not just about the big decisions, but the small, everyday instructions that God gives us. How are you following through on the daily habits He's asked you to implement?A Life Rooted in Obedience: True reverence for God comes from a life that is rooted in obedience. This is our ultimate duty as believers.Influence of Obedience: Your obedience impacts more than just your life—it affects your children, your family, and others in your sphere of influence. What's Next:We are starting a new book in our book club series!
