As young girls they read Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, and Judy Blume novels. College was the real scholastic awakening introducing these two Literary Enthusiasts to the Literary works of theirgreat ancestors: James Baldwin, Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou and others. These writers influenced Chyrel and Lyris so much. It only makes sense that they would now be writing in the Spirit of these ancestors. Giving a voice to social issues that plague our modern time.Their latest self-published works are books of poetry: Mirrored Images and Different Sides of the Same Coin. Both Books mirror messaging “no pun intended.” Ranging from a host of life topics: relationships, frayed familial dynamics, juggling life, single parenting, racism, etc. Some have said, our books are reminiscent of Harlem Renaissance revisited. Our anthologies of poems pair current social and living conditions with poetic verse. In this volume the sometimes darker sides and motives of human nature are also addressed.Where their first collection of poems Different Sides of the Same Coin revisited Harlem Renaissance and collided with 2019 social unrest, Mirrored Images rips off the bandages of human life experience. It forces one to see what most are happier pretending just does not exist at all. Broken, hurt people, hurt others. Spoken word is back and these literary writers take social justice and unrest to brand-new unchartered heights.Writing allowed Chyrel and Lyris to find their voice. Surviving a deadly pandemic, navigating life's rough waters, and continuing to stay true to themselves birthed their latest book Mirrored Images.Can magic be recreated for a second time? Lieutenant Colonel Teresa Starks is the Operations Support Flight Commander, 349th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, 349th Operations Group, Travis Air Force Base, California. In this capacity, she has direct oversite of MedicalLogistics, Operations Readiness, Cyber Communications, Resource Management and Administration. During her tenure the Operations Support Flight has supported the unit in 8 deployments, 3 humanitarian missions and 5 large-scale training exercises. Additionally, an Aeromedical Evacuation Operations Team has been equipped and staffed and plans for an Aeromedical Evacuation Liaison Team are being developed. She also develops, recommends, & implements strategies to optimize resources while increasing productivity and efficiency.Lieutenant Colonel Starks graduated from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology. In 2000, she received  a Master of Arts in Education from California State University, Dominguez Hills. Monica R. Allen graduated from Hampton University and The College of William and Mary with a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Psychology respectively, and she received her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Organization and Management – Business concentration from Capella University. She is currently the Director of Strategic Planning and Evaluation for Mecklenburg County – the most populous County in the State of NorthCarolina. Her accountabilities focus on leading, developing and executing the County's corporate performance management, strategic planning and program evaluation initiatives.Her accomplishments in the role as Director include successfully implementing a three year strategic business planning framework for Mecklenburg County to include the development of the FY2017-2019 Corporate Strategic Business Plan and consulting with approximately 24 departments on their three-year strategic business plans also for FY2017-2019. Recently, Monica refined the strategic business planning framework and is now assisting the organization with development of the FY2020- 2022 strategic business plans (corporate and departments).In addition to the success of designing and implementing a three-year strategic approach for moving the County forward, Monica has also implemented the first ever Performance Management System for the County, which was a multi-year engagement with the Microsoft Corporation. This effort has allowed the County to regularly and consistently monitor and manage performance throughout Mecklenburg County government.Monica is also the owner of Insight Performance Management Group, LLC, which is a consulting firm specializing in change management, strategy development and execution, performance management, and organizational development. Her firm has primarily worked with non-profit organizations whereby she has helped with the development of strategic plans along with tactical plans that reference steps to effective execution of strategy.
