In this episode of the SwineTime podcast, hosted by Dr. Spencer Wayne of Pipestone Veterinary Services, listeners are treated to a fascinating discussion with Dr. Maggie Behnke, Director of the Animal Resources Unit and attending veterinarian at the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF) in Manhattan, Kansas. Dr. Karyn Havas, PIPESTONE's Director of Foreign Animal Disease also joins the conversation. Dr. Behnke provides an in-depth look at NBAF, an advanced research facility dedicated to studying and combating the world's most dangerous animal diseases. The facility, which will replace the aging Plum Island Animal Disease Center, is designed to protect the U.S. from transboundary, emerging, and zoonotic diseases that threaten the food supply, agricultural economy, and public health. With stringent safety protocols, NBAF features biosafety level-2, -3 and -4 containment laboratories. It's BSL-4 containment spaces have the highest level of safety protocols and are capable of housing large livestock — a first for the United States. NBAF's capabilities allow USDA to expand its research and diagnostic mission with foot-and-mouth disease to also include diseases like Japanese encephalitis and Nipah virus. The conversation highlights NBAF's crucial role in rapid diagnostics, research on disease transmission, and vaccine development. Dr. Wayne and his guests discuss the strategic location of NBAF in Manhattan, Kansas and emphasize the facility's transparency and public engagement efforts, ensuring community trust and safety. This episode provides a comprehensive overview of the cutting-edge work at NBAF and its significant impact on the pork industry and beyond.
Our guest on this week's episode is Tom Behnke, vice president of sales and marketing at distribution 3PL Boxzooka. With the turning of the calendar pages to August, it's back-to-school season for most American families. While stores have been stocked for some time with the latest in shoes, clothing, and school supplies, parents are now shopping in earnest to prepare their young learners for a good school year. What does it take for distributors and retailers to succeed in this second-biggest peak shopping season of the year, and will they experience any hiccups?Lineage Logistics, a cold storage warehouse and transportation company, has now gone public on the NASDAQ stock exchange. They raised $4.4 billion in shares sold in their initial public offer, which translates to an overall valuation of the company at $18 billion. So, what do you do with $4.4 billion? When the IPO happened last week, they shared some pretty typical plans: mostly paying down debt from all the borrowing they had done to grow so large. But this week, we learned about some new plans, which involve sharing some of that windfall profit with employees. The global outlook for investments in warehouse automation was revised down this week, mainly due to challenging economic conditions in some other parts of the world. That's according to research from British consulting firm Interact Analysis, which released a mid-year report Tuesday updating its global warehouse automation forecast from last fall. Conditions look better in the Americas. Warehouse-automation revenue forecast projections for the United States have increased compared the fall forecast, mainly as a result of higher consumer spending, improved sentiment toward the economy, and Amazon starting to invest again, according to the report. The countdown for the 56th World Dairy Expo is on as there is only a few days until the global dairy industry meets once again in Madison. Do you have everything you need to have a memorable and enjoyable experience? Lisa Behnke, Communications Manager for World Dairy Expo says the first step is buying your digital admission passes for this year's event before arriving at the Alliant Energy Center. “Admission is required Tuesday, October 3 through Friday, October 6 for anyone 12 years old and older,” says Behnke. “Tickets can be purchased online by visiting Expo's website, or through our free mobile event app.” While you're in the app, take advantage of all the features to plan your time at Expo, such as custom itinerary-building, interactive maps, and more. “Something new this year is that there will be no exhibits in the lower level of the coliseum,” explains Behnke. “Instead it will be used for our tours as well as a family lounge for parents to watch the show on TV while the kids play.”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week's podcast episode is a replay of one of the most popular Turning 30 episodes from 2022. +++++++ When we are growing up, many of us are told that we are capable of achieving anything in life that we want. A good career? You go and get it! Move to a new city? Go for it! A great social life? All yours. A committed, long-term relationship? Of course it will happen for you! But what happens when you get to 35 and you haven't ticked off everything on the list? What happens when a relationship not only hasn't happened up until now, but seems like it never will? That is the story of this week's podcast guest, Laura Behnke. Living in the city of her dreams (New York) and in a high achieving career (as a successful tv anchor) her life was panning out as she had wanted, apart from the fact that at the age of 35 she had never been in a long-term relationship. She spent her early thirties focused on her romantic life and believed that because she hadn't yet met someone, that there was something wrong with her. SPOILER ALERT: There was absolutely nothing wrong with her! Shortly after making some big mindset shifts following her 35th birthday, she met her husband. In this episode Laura shares with us her story, of how she went from panicking and not enjoying her thirties, to feeling calm and accepting of her timelines, and eventually meeting her partner and having a child in her 40s. If you are looking for some inspiration and expansion- Laura's story and this is the episode for you!
