In this week's episode, we're re-airing one of our top episodes with Annie Lawless, a serial entrepreneur known for co-founding Suja Juice and, more recently, Lawless Beauty, a clean beauty brand. Throughout her ventures, Annie has consistently prioritized natural, clean ingredients stemming from her personal experience with autoimmune diseases. Driven by her passion for nutrition and overall health, Annie co-founded Suja Juice, which grew into one of the largest organic cold-pressed juice companies. Eventually, they sold a minority stake to Coca-Cola and, in 2021, the company was acquired by a private equity firm. After leaving Suja Juice, Annie's health conditions led her to search for clean beauty products only to find that what was available simply did not provide the full-pigmentation, long-lasting performance she was looking for. Inspired by this gap in the market and the community feedback on her beauty blog BLAWNDE, Annie created Lawless Beauty—a makeup brand that is both high-performing and cruelty-free.In the episode, Annie discusses pivotal moments in her journey, leaving law school, teaching yoga, and starting her first business. She shares insights into Suja Juice's growth and emphasizes the importance of following passions aligned with purpose. Annie reminds us to focus on joy, nurture our passions, and stay true to our unique paths. In this episode, we'll talk to Annie about:* Self-understanding, philosophy, and finding purpose. [06:12]* Overcoming anxiety, leaving law school. [15:28]* From yoga teaching to first business venture. [17:39]* Suja Juice: Fun passion project turned business. Produce Buzzers - A Podcast for Lovers of Fresh Fruits and Veggies

On the Produce Buzzers Podcast, we usually only feature fresh fruits and veggies instead of processed products. But there are some good processed products in the produce aisle. Most juices in the grocery store are not very good for you. They are often made with concentrated fruit juice which is almost like pure sugar syrup. But if you look in the produce section you will find some that are loaded with nutritional benefits. One of the best brands is Suja Juice. All organic and non-GMO, their juices undergo “high-pressure processing” to extend their shelf life without using any heat or preservatives. This keeps the nutrition and the delicious flavors locked in, unlike most juices that undergo heat pasteurization. Because of that, you will only find Suja Juice in the produce aisle. They are like fresh produce in a bottle. This week's guest is Jody Cnossen, EVP of Sales for Suja Juice. Listen in to learn about their delicious and nutritious line of products. They have immunity boosters, energy, digestive, and cleansing shots, and just plain juice made with the most nutritious fruits and veggies. They can definitely juice up your diet!

‘It doesn’t take long for our feet to wear a rut born of habit in our daily, default path. But if we’re fortunate, during any given day, something surprising startles our heart long enough to arrest the bustle and disrupt our rut.’ The question is, do we have to wait for that something surprising to happen spontaneously? Or can we build the experience of awe into our daily lives? Can we design for wonder? Today, Jeffrey introduces us to his working premise for Season 2: Wonder is not an accident and designing for wonder is not only possible but necessary in our world of deteriorating trust. He walks us through the possible dawn of awe when our ancestors developed the ‘irresistible urge to gaze’ and defines wonder as the emotional experience of surprise that dissolves our biases. Jeffrey also previews the themes of this season by way of two stories, one of a company designing for wonder NOW via Instagram hashtags and another of the philosopher Descartes discovering wonder THEN, in 17th-century Denmark through the laughter of his daughter. Listen in for insight around the role of wonder in facilitating radically new solutions and join the growing alliance of Wonder Trackers who choose wonder over cynicism. Suja, meaning long, beautiful life, embodies the promise that flows from the cold-pressed beverages it delivers in each and every bottle. Suja was founded by four diverse San Diegans from different walks of life that came together in the most unexpected of circumstances to form what is now the fastest growing organic, cold-pressed and Non-GMO beverage company in the U.S. Suja’s story all began from a shared dream to help people everywhere transform their lives through conscious nutrition. Co-Founder Annie Lawless had been juicing her entire life and from a young age had been aware that what you put in your body affects how you look and more importantly, how you feel. Her friend Eric Ethans had a background as a raw food chef and spent his entire life researching and pairing ingredients to create healthy, delicious meals. The two met in San Diego and bonded over their mutual love of delivering convenient nutrition through foods and beverages that also tasted good. They were frustrated by the lack of pure, organic products on grocery store shelves and decided to create their own juices at home. Meanwhile, James Brennan, a leading hospitality visionary, award-winning restaurateur and one of San Diego’s most successful entrepreneurs, met Eric and was instantly hooked on his homemade juice. Enter Jeff Church, a Harvard MBA and successful social entrepreneur, known for his role as founder and CEO of Nika Water, a social enterprise that donates 100 percent of its profits to clean water projects and poverty alleviation around the world. The rest is history: Co-founders Annie, Eric, James and Jeff came together to form Suja Juice as we know it today, with a mission to get the best quality organic and Non-GMO juice into as many hands as possible. Through the large-scale use of organic, Non-GMO fruits and vegetables, and implementation of a breakthrough displacement technology called High Pressure Processing (HPP), Suja Juice has become the nation’s leading organic and cold-pressed juice brand.

Understanding that you need to pivot and change your current professional path is one thing, but to act on it is another. Both Greg Peyser and Russell Radebaugh each had their defining moments where they had enough of their mundane office jobs. Ironically they both wound up in San Diego at Suja Juice, the cold pressed organic fruit and vegetable juice company. After witnessing first hand the fast paced rise to success and eventual sale to Coca-Cola for $90-million, they decided they were equipped to launch their own company. Some blind optimism, mixed with a little luck, paired with a very strong product, Russ and Greg launched an overnight oats packaged breakfast food called Brekki. Just 7-months in, they have roughly 30 accounts, 21 of which are Whole Foods locations who notoriously hold their brands to a higher standard and only work with high integrity companies using quality ingredients. Please visit www.Brekki.com where they will soon be launching an e-commerce option in case Brekki is not available in stores near you. She plays a key role at Suja, bringing years of experience and firsthand knowledge in holistic nutrition and well being to every aspect of the company.
